"Great Possibilities But Run By Amateurs"
We understand that the hotel is under new ownership. A major extension project has been undertaken and is not yet finished. The bedrooms in the new wing were comfortable and clean, but had obviously been decorated by amateurs - the two large prints were hung inches from the ceiling. We were given the key to our room, but on arrival found the door ajar […] and one bed not made up. We called down and a housekeeper arrived to fix the problem, but the two promised bottles of water were not there and the tissue box was empty. We sat in a rather unattractive outside area for drinks before dinner with our two friends, but our waitress was very pleasant and took care of us well. Dinner was tasty, but much too salt. Again our waitress was very pleasant. Breakfast was a farce. Served in a large room with three small tables for two, at the side - the rest of the room was empty. Small buffet inadequately stocked. The new decor while very flashy is really not in keeping with an old inn. Litchfield is a delightful area and the Litchfield Inn is well positioned for those visiting that part of the country, however we had the feeling that it was not being run by professional hoteliers. "We Enjoyed a Lovely Stay in a Pleasing Place."
The staff was pleasant and helpful throughout our stay. I had made reservations and then needed to change the date. A staff person returned my call promptly. We chose to eat at the Inn's restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious. The wait staff couldn't have been more solicitous and kind. The Inn has recently changed hands. They are intent on improving […] the looks and amenities of the inn (They have completed refurbishing the lobby). They are working on restoring the patio behind the inn and installing a pool. Nothing more dissapointing then to get up the big morning and find no hot water. A call down to the front desk reveals that the boiler is out and that they will call as soon as it was fixed. "Nice stay, some frustrations"
The first 2 key cards we received worked only after much trying. The next day, neither one worked, and we had to get 2 more from the desk. They did not work at all, and a third key card did work, barely. Very irritating. Had a nice breakfast in the Bistro, though service was slow. Had to get up to ask for the bill. Hotel refurbishment as at September 2012 was fantastic. The rooms are superb and would get a mark of 9/10 missing point is for the fact that someone forgot to re stock our room. This is a five star experience. I can't say enough. Staff A Plus. The best part homemade cookies on the bed. YUMMMM Everything was clean and tidy. Breakfast in the Bistro on them with everything you'd crave AND Happy Hour WELL I has to take a picture of the bill people at home wouldn't believe all we got to eat and drink for dollars. Have told everyone about the Litchfield Inn. Love Love Loved it.

My husband and I pulled up to the inn on a Wednesday thinking we probably couldn't afford to stay here. We were given what we felt was a good rate for a two queen room. We weren't sure what to expect from the room but the lobby was nice and so we decided to stay. The room (101 (I think it's usually the wheelchair accessible room)) was beautiful. The bathroom was new and nicely done. Both beds were very comfortable with nice linens and throw pillows. Flat screen tv, microwave and fridge (with drinks for an extra charge) they do include free bottle water. Free wifi is also available. We ate at the attached restaraunt for dinner, service was ok but food was great. We both had a wonderful sleep. Breakfast was included, the eggs were mediocre and felt like they were sitting around a while but the rest of the breakfast was delicious. Very good thick bacon and sausages. When we checked out I was surprised to see the price we were quoted was the price that included all taxes so the actual nightly rate was less than we thought. Loved it here, tried to convince my husband to stay forever.

My wife and I had previously stayed at the Litchfield Inn in 2012, so we had reasonable expectations. The challenges started when I made my reservation online. Their Web site would not accept Discover Card as a payment method, so I entered an American Express card. But when I checked in on Friday, I learned that Discover Card was a valid form of payment. The front desk clerk had to reverse the charges to my American Express (processed at 6pm, prior to our arrival) and then charge my Discover Card instead. This was not a big deal, but an avoidable inconvenience. Upon checking in, we were provided with keys to room 301, which is in the older section of the hotel. My wife and I settled into the room and were removing the throw pillows from the bed when we discovered stains on the fitted sheet. This wasn't a small stain -- it was several large obvious stains. I wouldn't sleep on sheets that looked like this in my own home, let alone at an inn. Housekeeping staff need to pay closer attention to the condition of linens as they are making a bed and not use sheets that are stained. I went down to the front desk and spoke with Kathleen about the situation. At first, all I asked for was a replacement fitted sheet. The one that she brought to the room was also stained (visible once we unfolded it), albeit less than the original one. At that point, she offered to move us to another room. The bedding in room 210 (newer section of the hotel) was unstained, and we found the new room to be very comfortable. I have several other concerns about our stay: * The room rate card on the back of both room 301 and 210 is incorrect. When I asked about it, I was told that it was "last year's prices." We paid $289 for a "standard" room, which was posted as $209. The price for a "deluxe room" was posted as $269. In other words, we paid more for the cheapest room than the posted price for the most expensive room. We also were not offered a 10% AAA discount as the card said. * The smoke detector in room 210 was completely missing. The wiring harness was on the ceiling, but the device itself was not present. As a former firefighter, I pay close attention to this kind of thing in hotel rooms. I was comforted enough by the presence of three ceiling sprinklers. Overall, our stay was decent. It got off to a bumpy start, but Kathleen and the hotel other staff did what they could to fix the situation. I travel a lot for my job -- at least one week per month in a hotel. I use TripAdvisor a lot. I generally stay at Hampton Inns or similar mid-tier chains. I typically pay $129-159 per night. To pay more than double that at the Litchfield Inn for a mediocre room is disappointing. For $289 per night, I expect a sparking clean room, comfortable bedding, and nice furnishings. Room 210 provided all of that, but had we remained in room 301 with its stained sheets, old tube TV, and tired bedding, we would have been really disappointed. A couple days after we checked out, we received an automated e-mail message from the Litchfield Inn asking for our feedback. I provided the above comments (and pictures) in an e-mail to the general manager Jessie, as the e-mail requested. I offered Jessie the opportunity to respond to my concerns prior to posting this review on TripAdvisor, but six days later I have not received any response.

Except for the cold eggs due to the sterno going out, our first stay in June was very nice. I thought we'd found a nice nearby getaway, but cancelled tonight's stay when their reservation form showed a price 80 dollars above what I booked on their site. I had not protected myself with a copy of my confirmation, which is my own fault, but shame on them. A disappointing way to finish a birthday weekend,but we live near enough to forgo being taken advantage of. They offered a 20 percent "discount" which brought it down only to the rate available at that time on the Internet. Too bad, it seemed okay the first visit.

Our family and friends spent a wonderful weekend at the Inn. My daughter was married at a local vineyard in Litchfield and we choose the Inn to stay at because of the ability to spend time with family and friends in open settings. We were able to meet up in the restaraunt/bar area as well as the long room to play games and socialize. This was one of the main reasons we picked this place as there were several of us and we did not want to have to all crowd into on room. The staff was great the wedding photos the photographer was able to capture in the long room as well as on the beautiful staircase were exquist. Thank you for everything. We are considering doing a family get together as we so enjoyed the area, and would consider staying here again.
"Potential but not very nice considering the price"

The room was more in line with what you would expect from a lower end hotel. The furniture was somewhat worn and the room had a musty odor. The food in the restaurant was ok, but not great. That being said the bar restaurant is well laid out and is one of the nicer aspects of the hotel. There is no lock on the side door to the building where you enter from a dirt parking lot to get to the room. It did look as though we got lucky being in the back of the hotel. The bar/restaurant was pretty noisy and the noise rose to the second floor. I would have hated to be in one of the front rooms. The service from the people at the front desk was very nice and friendly. It is not a bad place, but given the price it is hard to give the Litchfield Inn a very good rating. Probably won't stay there again.

This is a clean and comfortable hotel. Just make sure that you are in the new section of the hotel. The heat doesn't work so great in the old section. Each room is very large. They have a nice continental breakfast and a bar/restaurant on the first floor. This past weekend they had a drummer and guitarist singing. I haven't eaten in the restaurant so there is not much I can say about it.

Our wedding will be in the area this fall and we scheduled appointments with the caterer and venue as well as the Justice of the Peace. Rather than driving back and forth, my fiance suggested that we stay overnight. What a lovely inn. Yes, they are under new management and due to the long grueling winter they are behind in their planned updates but overall we were very satisfied! The dront desk staff were great and were able to help us print tickets for a show at the Infinity Music Hall. We returned from the show and went to the bar for a cocktail and were happy to hear that we could get dessert even though the kitchen was "closed". The bartender was pleasent and there was a duet performing. The desserts were huge and very tasty! The next morning we went into the lounge area where their self-serve breakfast was being offered. Scrambled eggs, waffle maker, bagles, bacon, sausage, yogurt, coffee, tea etc. were set up and ready for the guests. As we left, the Sunday brunch was set up in the library area and had a wonderful selection of foods. The buffet was substantial, which leads me to believe that they were expecting a pretty big crowd. We are very happy to say the we have blocked off rooms for any of our guests who wish to stay over after our wedding in October!

We just returned from a disappointing stay at the Litchfield Inn. There were several things that made the Inn comfortable and it IS very pretty, as well as reasonably priced, but our experience with the restaurant was appalling. Since I don't want to get upset all over again, you can just take my word for it that the experience was one of the worst I've ever had in a restaurant. And I'm also confident that the other guests would agree. The Manager did credit us back a small amount for the cost of the meal, but we would never return to the Inn based upon our experience with BOTH the food and the service.
