"Litchfield Inn worth the switch from Torrington"
Visiting family in NW Connecticut, Litchfield Inn was worth the drive compared to hotels available in larger Torrington. Stayed in the new wing and rooms were very nice. One complaint (location, not the Inn) is no T-Mobile reception in hotel. As for the room, some additions would make the experience even better: add a room safe, provide slippers and […] body wash would make this a 5++. Asked for a bathroom scale to check luggage weight, but they didn't have any. It would be nice if they had some for people to use. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Nice New England inn. The room was very comfortable and attractively furnished. Unfortunately the location is not close to many dining options especially anything reasonably priced.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Wonderful, charming hotel in a lovely town"
I was very pleasantly surprised by Litchfield Inn. The hotel is situated on a large piece of property and is very quiet, despite it's location on the main road through town. The staff were all very friendly. We had dinner in the restaurant our first night. The food was delicious and our server was excellent. Our beds were comfortable beyond expectation […] and my daughter and I melted into them each night. We will definitely be back! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great for a couples getaway"
The Litchfield Inn is a beautiful QUIET place to stay. It is a nice combination of hotel and inn. Litchfield Inn was recently renovated and the room I stayed in was nicely appointed with refrigerator and mini microwave, I Pad docking station clock, and a flat screen tv. Beds are extremely comfortable and the room was very quiet- something I really appreciate […] in my travels! The inn offers guests a complimentary continental breakfast. It would be really great if the restaurant were open and available for breakfast. There's a nice quaint place down the street offering breakfast and lunch called Patty's- so that is a nice option. Again, the bar and restaurant are closed by 10 pm on weeknights, and there seems to be very little local options for something to eat late night. Another nice feature about this inn is that it is pet friendly- they simply add a $35 surcharge for each pet- so this is a very nice option if you are traveling with a four legged friend! "Great room and superb food in the bistro"
We did not expect to get to such a lovely place. Room was great, lots of channels on TV, refrigerator, microwave, coffee... The Bistro in the hotel has the best olives, ask for the olives!!!! Food and service really the best!!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Reasonably priced good hotel in Litchfield CT"
Very comfortable room in good hotel. The hotel is in the process of upgrading its rooms and facilities. They gave us a renovated room at a good rate. We look forward to staying when the pool and fitness center are completed.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

This is a great hotel and will definitely stay there again. Room was clean and fresh with no complains. This is a great place for a romantic getaway and I look forward to bringing my wife next time.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Excellent; friendly, helpful staff. Need small microwave and/or toaster oven in buffet breakfast area. Dining room stools ok for bar but uncomfortable for dining.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Very plesent stay. The internet connection in our room was good and fast, the room was very clean and the beds soft and comfortable. The hotel staff were very helpful. If you want to stay extra nights though book via the internet, not via the front desk.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great Possibilities But Run By Amateurs"
We understand that the hotel is under new ownership. A major extension project has been undertaken and is not yet finished. The bedrooms in the new wing were comfortable and clean, but had obviously been decorated by amateurs - the two large prints were hung inches from the ceiling. We were given the key to our room, but on arrival found the door ajar […] and one bed not made up. We called down and a housekeeper arrived to fix the problem, but the two promised bottles of water were not there and the tissue box was empty. We sat in a rather unattractive outside area for drinks before dinner with our two friends, but our waitress was very pleasant and took care of us well. Dinner was tasty, but much too salt. Again our waitress was very pleasant. Breakfast was a farce. Served in a large room with three small tables for two, at the side - the rest of the room was empty. Small buffet inadequately stocked. The new decor while very flashy is really not in keeping with an old inn. Litchfield is a delightful area and the Litchfield Inn is well positioned for those visiting that part of the country, however we had the feeling that it was not being run by professional hoteliers. "We Enjoyed a Lovely Stay in a Pleasing Place."
The staff was pleasant and helpful throughout our stay. I had made reservations and then needed to change the date. A staff person returned my call promptly. We chose to eat at the Inn's restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious. The wait staff couldn't have been more solicitous and kind. The Inn has recently changed hands. They are intent on improving […] the looks and amenities of the inn (They have completed refurbishing the lobby). They are working on restoring the patio behind the inn and installing a pool. The cost was a bit high, but in keeping with the area they serve. I would recommend them to a friend. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Expensive neglected hotel"
The hotel is very expensive in relation to facilities available,. No lobby except one poor old sofa . They said that the hotel is under renovation, but fees must go down till they complete renovation. The garden around the hotel is neglected.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Everyone should expect HOT water"
Nothing more dissapointing then to get up the big morning and find no hot water. A call down to the front desk reveals that the boiler is out and that they will call as soon as it was fixed. We called twenty minutes later and were informed that a technician had been called and it would be two hours if not longer. Cold shower, cold shave and off to our […] daughter's graduation without any mention of compensations or apologies. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Nice stay, some frustrations"
The first 2 key cards we received worked only after much trying. The next day, neither one worked, and we had to get 2 more from the desk. They did not work at all, and a third key card did work, barely. Very irritating. Had a nice breakfast in the Bistro, though service was slow. Had to get up to ask for the bill. Hotel refurbishment as at September 2012 was fantastic. The rooms are superb and would get a mark of 9/10 missing point is for the fact that someone forgot to re stock our room. But would go again and recommend. It was like sleeping in a high rise bed. We did'nt see many of the staff so unable to judge there helpfulness and breakfast not great especially […] as we stayed at the Hampton Inn Groton after and it was a fantastic breakfast. "Herlig country Inn"
"If I could give it 10 stars I would"
12/21/14 Trent S Houston, Texas
Bantam Bistro is our new favorite go-to for happy hour, dinner and brunch! Chef William's entrees will blow you away. He puts a sophisticated twist on yummy comfort food. The everyday specials, especially burger night, are all incredible. The staff makes you feel like you have walked into the Cheers bar and "everyone knows your name." We have also stayed at the hotel and highly recommend it for a long weekend getaway. The rooms have been recently renovated and we found the staff amenable to meeting our every request.

A beautifully new renovated room greated us when we arrived, complete with a lovely canopy bed and master bath. We ate in the restaurant inside the hotel and found the food to be prepared excellent. The pricing was a bit higher than expected but quality and service were great. Two thumbs up! I would definitely stay at the Litchfield Inn again in the future.
"Like a Box of Chocolates, You Never Know What You're Going To Get"
11/24/14 Jannine M Clinton
We checked into a room that was colder than the air outside. I asked for handicapped access and we got a room in the farthest point of the hotel, 2nd floor all the way in the back of the building! There were only 2 hangars in the closet, not adequate lighting above the "futuristic sink" , which looked nice but not practical and the bathroom was very tiny and not handicapped accessible. there was a syrupy substance on the floor in front of the sink which your shoes stuck to. Front Desk Staff seemed to blame us rather than admit they had a heat and hot water problem. They said we should put our heater/AC unit on 72 degrees rather than 80 and "give it time". Ha Ha! I went to wash up and there was no not water! NO HEAT. NO HOT WATER! Manager said, "Im sorry". Big deal. Heard this has been going on for years. Litchfield Inn looks good from the outside, doesn't deliver on the inside. Litchfield Inn misses the mark on so many levels. The staff tries hard, but they are fighting a losing battle. Next time, we'll pass.
"Fine but a little strange"
10/29/14 kate571 Boston, Massachusetts
I had a strange stay at this hotel last week. I have stayed at the inn several times before and it’s been nice. The renovated rooms in the back are great. But I was put in an older room and it was frankly gross. I wouldn’t have slept in the bed or sat in the chair which was old and looked really dirty. I would have been very suspect of the bedspread and pillows too (and there were only two pillows.) I ran my finger along the top of the panelling and it was full of dust. The gentleman behind the desk was VERY nice and moved me easily when I asked, but I wonder why I was put in the room in the first place if there were other renovated rooms available. Later after taking my son out I came back late with some take-out. They hadn’t given me cutlery so I went down to the bar to ask for some. It was closed I guess but there were still people in there. I asked the girl behind the bar for a fork and knife. She looked at me kind of funny and went back to get some. Then she came back and asked if I was a guest. I felt like telling her, no, I drove all the way down here to steal a knife and fork from you. She finally gave me one but it was strange. Then in the morning I came down to get some coffee to take with me and the lids did not fit the size cups that were out. The same girl was there and I asked her if she had different sizes. She said that whatever was out was all she had. I clearly was annoying her. So I put my coffees out on the bar and said I was going to have to leave them. She said she’d go check with someone. I waited a while and then she came back with water pitchers. She didn’t say anything to me and she obviously hadn’t asked anyone. I told that she could throw my coffees out and she just sort of mumbled sorry. That is crazy for spending $138 a night. The other woman at breakfast at the time said to me that she’d rather stay at the Best Western, so her experience must have been not so great either. The Inn could be great, but it just misses. It’s not expensive but it isn’t cheap either and for that kind of money, guests shouldn’t have experiences like that. I will go down the road to the Marriot next time.
"Ordinary motel, charmless; inattention to detail; missed opportunity"
10/19/14 HBMiller Potomac, MD
Driving up, the street-facing facade of this hostelry gives the appearance of a charming, old New England inn. This impression is immediately dispelled before leaving the parking lot: the inn's bicycles sit outside in the rain, rusting away, with uninflated tires. The disappointment persists as one enters: the lobby is devoid of charm, decorated -- indeed, the entire inn is decorated -- with mass-produced, largely contemporary furnishings and motel-style art, no overall plan, no attention to consistency, quality or curation. The rooms are average size, and with average mass-market furniture and fixtures for a commercial hotel. The lighting over the sink is unacceptably dim. Housekeepers stuff piles of dirty laundry into storage rooms adjoining sleeping rooms and leave the storage doors open. Our closet had only two hangers, and I spent five minutes at the front desk trying to explain the difference between a skirt hanger and a man's suit hanger; it took three tries to get the latter. This is a large commercial motel with the false front of a quaint inn. The price reflects the location, which is superb, but not the experience; it's a poor value. Staff is friendly but inadequately trained. And P.S.: what hotel has room numbers in the 300s on the second floor?
"Great place to stay!"
The Litchfield Inn had very nice accommodations. The electric fireplace was a bit of a disappointment. We had assumed it would be gas. Our mistake, though, for not checking. They are in the middle of some major upgrades which did not affect our stay at all. The restaurant/bar there was great. Most of the people were very friendly and helpful. We absolutely loved the town of Litchfield as well. Would definitely recommend!
"Pleasant though lacks a little soul"
10/13/14 Bing79 London, United Kingdom
We stayed two nights at the start of the week when unable to find a B&B. Whilst the inn is nice both inside and out, it seemed to lack a little character though perhaps that's unfair as it was the start of the week, just out of season. My wife and I had booked a Queen room and received a large double Queen room, nicely decorated to decent hotel standard with a good sized bathroom. Rooms are, I believe, all across the ground floor so meant we didn't really leave the curtains open or could have fresh air but the A/C was fine when it was a little warm. One criticism was the walls/sound-proofing wasn't great so doors of people getting up early seemed to slam rather loudly. Breakfast was a self-service buffet, predominantly continental-style though there was scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage and a DIY waffle iron which was fun! The in-house restaurant seemed to attract some external diners and had daily specials and a very early happy hour though the bar food we grabbed one night was nice enough and I'm sure it provides an alternative to the handful of main restaurants in nearby Litchfield (1.5m) and Bantam. Perfectly good place to stay to explore the small town of Litchfield as well as nearby Woodbury, Kent, Cornwall and Lake Waramaug/Hopkins Vineyard.

We found this inn almost by accident, but enjoyed staying here for two nights. Nice staff, good value for money food in the bistro and a very good location to go and explore the beautiful lakes and hills around Litchfield. Would definitely come back.

Staff was friendly and place was cozy. Loved the clean room and bed. Rooms have fridges which was a bonus. Free cookies in room! Parking was free as well as WiFi. Lounge on site was nice! These guys seemed to keep the place nice and it shows. Would stay again and recommend to others.
"OK , but limited value for price"
09/30/14 Jeffrey C Plattsburgh, New York
Was able to get a room at the otherwise sold out hotel. I understand that two weddings were scheduled. Since this Inn is the only hotel in town, I took the room even though the price was high ($260 for a queen). Overall the venue is very nice, looks like an old colonial house and the spiral staircase in the lobby is beautiful. However, the room quality was about what I would expect from a hotel at half the price. Rug was shabby and wrinkled in the entryway, The room itself was very plain. As usual these days there weren't enough plugs in the room for all our electronics. Free breakfast was ok - some kind of powdered eggs with bacon/sausage, pastries, do it yourself waffles. A stated $35 early check in fee was not charged, thankfully. Bottom line - if I had been charged $125-150 for this room, I would have given it an extra star.
