"Must be seen....."
After a lovely function in the dining room and a supurb meal we retired to our room with ensuite. Comfy bed, lovely hot shower. coffee was made in the breakfast room and taken to our room but sadly no table to place our cups, so we headed to the Library with amazing memorabilia and lots of treasures to admire. A very quiet romantic Mansion with loads […] of history.. Don't expect radio , TV or even a clock.. There were 2 bottles of water in the room... We will come again for a special occasion... Reading about the history of this mansion before going is a must to appreciate the solitude and beauty. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

This building is very grand and steeped in history but as a hotel did not meet my basic needs. Not to be used if you don't have a car, as it is 800metres from the main road, unlit with no real walking path. There are no eating facilities within the 'Mansion', only weddings & functions are catered for. I had to arrange for outside food delivery for dinner one night & didn't eat the other. The 'desk' is only manned within busy hours 9-5, the entrance was not open on my arrival, I wondered around with my suitcase looking for a way in.The rooms are unique with antques but weren't designed for comfort, no clock or radio, or place to sit or work. The bedroom door only closed if I used the key. The 'kitchen' was along the landing for making tea/coffee but with no sink, I had to go back & forth to my room to fill the kettle etc.Being there for business & leaving each morning at 8am,I asked if breakfast provisions could be supplied. The TV was acessible one night in the library, when not being used a lecture room.I was the only paying quest, alone in a huge mansion,Not a place to stay if you are on business or for that matter for pleasure.Tip-no alcohol allowed

We (my wife and I) were looking for a not-too-expensive but nice hotel within 15 minutes of Melbourne Airport, as we had an early start. And so we came across Rupertswood. When we got there, I wasn't exactly sure we were in the right place (the cannon in the driveway seemed a little strange) however, the manager let us in and showed us to our room, which was a small maid's room. We were both stunned by this property. The history, artwork, rooms, gardens and architecture were incredible. Anyhow it turned out we were the only ones staying there for the night and we had the best of evenings sipping wine and eating takeaway thai on the verandah overlooking the gardens. While our room was small, there was plenty of public space we could enjoy. We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay and would recommend this to someone who was looking for a bit of history, romance or a quiet country getaway.

This hotel is unique in its elegant design and its history. Walking through the grand entrance hall is like walking through a time portal into the late 1800s. The views are tremendous and the mansion itself gave us a great idea of just how grand the 'high life' must have been. To be frank, Rupertswood is presented and managed like a 3-star b&b: no concierge/manned reception, no tvs, and a simple breakfast (full English but with instant coffee). That said, we were after a unique weekend experience and for $220 a night it was definitely worthwhile. For those with the same expectations, this place is recommended.
"Brilliant Romantic Night Stay/Honeymoon Night/Weddings"

WOW WOW WOW Is all I can say. This establishment, left me literally breathless. I went years ago for a 50th Birthday, then 2 years ago for a 6 course Valentine's Romantic Dinner and eventually had our wedding there in October 2011. We stayed there for the night of our wedding, with friends, and words cant express how amazing, historical and impeccable service this Mansion offers. The rooms are very enchanting, the food is like you have never tasted before, the staff cant do enough to help you. You literally drive into the grounds and know that this place is special. You walk around the grounds and you can imagine what it was like back in the days. You walk into the mansion and it takes your breath away from the historical beauty it holds. The guests at our wedding, could not believe how brilliant the food is. My most favourite romantic place in Melbourne. You will not be disappointed... A place to propose to someone special.

We entered the premises as strangers and certainly left as friends. That is their motto. How gorgeous is this place! Romantic, elegant, private and filled with history. A business overnight stay was the reason, but oh what a delight. The sprawling verandah, the lovely cooked breakfast and just so enjoyable. Highly recommended for that anniversary or just to spend time together. With this one you can believe the reviews from multiple sources. Put it on your list but don't go alone. It's a place to be shared with someone special.
