"Great location, good neighborhood, but just OK"
Location is great near the Yamanote line and only 1 station north of Shinjuku station. In Korean neighborhood in a residential alley. Has a very cool café/bar. Room was OK but bathroom brings down the whole experience, very bad and got very hot. Considering all things, it is OK for the price and convenient to get out of if you are heading to the airport […] via train at any time other than when trains aren't running. "Dirty but great location"
JR train and subway was about 2 blocks away. However, the bathroom had mold all over it and needed repairs. You should try to find another place if you can.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"No available room for us"
After 13 hours of air travel and 2 hours of trying to figure out how to get to the hotel from the airport, there was no room available for us (despite pre-paying through hotels.com). They got our reservation, but there was no room.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This hotel is located near Shinjuku station. It's clean and perferct for those on a budget.Genuine Expedia guest review
I would NEVER stay in this hotel. First, this hotel was really hard to find. This was the most horrible 2 nights ever in my life. When we went up to our room, the second thing that greeted us was a squash cockroach which we were fine cause it can happen anywhere but when we went to the bathroom we were like OMG The bathroom was disgusting. The shower […] curtain was so dirty that you couldn't even tell what color it was. We complain and it was the same situation as it was from the beginning. then later at night, my husband some how had spilled a little bit of coffee in the bed sheets (oh if I didn't mention this: it had happen because the room was so small that it was unbelievable. We didn't even know how we fit there. This is not the first time that I had been in Japan. So I had an idea of how small there hotel rooms were. But this hotel room was unbelievable small. Imagine a queen size bed as a room and in it there's a full bed with little space for your luggage to be place or even yourself to be able to walk around). Continuing the story, I tell my husband don't worry that tomorrow we'll have the room clean and they will change the sheets for us. After a long day, we were so tired that wanted a shower and hit the bed. Guess what?! The stain was still in the sheets. It seems that they just fix the bed and folded whatever. The price that we paid was the same as another hotel that we had stayed the night before which it didn't had this problem of cleanness. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Room stunk and was filthy. A LOT of bathroom mold."
The location is good. Hotel is run down. Price was good. I am not picky, but this place was nasty. Mold all over shower curtain and on bathroom ceiling. Not just a little bit of mold, either. Room stunk terribly like strong food smell. Took some getting used to. Light fixture was yellow and broken. We only stayed one night, which was fine with us.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good location & family friendly."
This is a nice hotel. They were available for late check in and the price was very reasonable. The room was very spacious for a hotel in Japan. We had a problem with the bathroom flooding, but I told the gentleman at the front desk and he was quick to fix it. The area was very nice, lots of food choices. My mom and I were traveling with my 4 year old […] niece and the accomodations were perfect for the three of us. This hotel is very easy to find and is only a very short distance from JR Okubo station and is also close to JR Shin-Okubo station. The central location is nice for easy access to many major attractions. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
This no frills hotel was in a great location - about 3 minute walk to trains - and about a 20 minute walk to the center of Shinjuku. There are many restaurants in the neighborhood and if you don't want to eat out there are many small shops selling food to take away. We were traveling on a budget and this hotel was great for our one night in stay. The […] rooms were clean, larger than expected. The bathroom was little more than a closet with a short tub and shower, but did the trick non the less. If you are looking for luxury and comfort, this is not the place for you. But if you are in need of a place to sleep and shower there is nothing wrong with the Empire. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good place to stay in Shinjuku"
The location of the hotel was its best feature. Its very close to the Shinjuku station, just about 2-3 blocks away. The hotel is kinda hiding on a little back street, but if you go down the right street, you cannot miss it. The rooms are small, but it's Tokyo, this is expected. We got a triple room w/ 3 beds, and they were basically right up against […] one another. But overall, I would def recommend this hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Family suite good for multiple travellers"
I have stayed in many hotels in Japan. I had the opportunity to see the single room, and it is similar to most other hotel rooms for the price. A single bed, with a tiny bathroom and television. You don't really need more, but don't expect two people to fit in the single room. You'll barely fit in there with your luggage. That said, I did not stay […] in the single room, as I was traveling with a group. We stayed at Hotel Empire for over a week - we had four people in the three bedroom suite. Our room had a tiny living area, a full sized bathroom with a walk-in shower and tub, and two large bedrooms. There was a lot of storage space if you choose to use it - three closets and lots of shelving. We slept on futons instead of western beds. All of the rooms have televisions, refridgerators, and hair dryers. I didn't see any bugs, and while the futons had lots of stains, our rooms were cleaned daily. The front desk staff was very friendly, and helped arrange travel to and from the airport at a discounted rate with no problem. The hotel is in a great location, if you take a left out of the front door, and walk to the main road, there are two JR stations that can take you anywhere in the city. There are also a lot of small shops and places to eat nearby. In general, the neighborhood is quiet, but it is close enough to the train station that you can be on your way in less than five minutes. When I return to Tokyo, I intend to stay here again. c: Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"best value for money"
The hotel is near the JR Shin-Okubo train station and just 1 station away from Shinjuku station. I booked a family room for 4 and they gave us their biggest room with 2 adjoining rooms inside. Wifi is fast, bathroom is big and there are lots of shops & restaurants sorrounding the hotel. Truly best value for money. Will stay here again the next time […] I visit Japan. "Location was hard to find at first. Unclean."
They don't change the bedsheets at all during the entire stay. They do not clean the bathroom. Bathroom was quite run down. Walls were very thin, if you do not make an effort to speak very softly, everyone on the same level can hear you.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Decent location, friendly staff"
The room was pretty small and the bathroom smelled terrible constantly, but the hotel was in quite a good location - about 15min walk from the main Shinjuku train station. There was a convenience store very close by and a launderette about 10mins walk away. The staff were very friendly and there were vending machines right by the hotel entrance. In […] our room we had fresh towels everyday, they provided bath robes and slippers, and in the bathroom we had fresh toothbrushes, toothpaste, a comb and a razor everyday, along with shampoo, conditioner and shower gel all provided. It wasn't the best if I'm honest, and I'm not sure I'd choose this hotel again, but it was a really cheap room right in the heart of Tokyo, so you get what you pay for I guess ^_^! "Close to station, with basic needs"
The hotel staff are pleasant and helpful, they will call up and make reservations for restaurants for you if you ask them to. the hotel location is a few minutes walk from Shin-Okubo station which is only one stop away from the main station - Shinjuku. We found that on late nights out you could easily walk back from Shinjuku within 15-20 minutes. The […] hotel itself is small, with rooms that have the bare minimal - Bed, TV, Bathroom, fridge. But we heard from our friends who were staying at other hotels that their rooms were also quite small. The rooms were cleaned everyday, new towels and toiletry given. If you leave things on the bed then they won't touch it we found, so if you want your sheets changed don't leave anything on the bed. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

My room was on the ground floor. It had some humid smell and the air ventilator was noisy. The WiFi reception was bad too in my room. If you were to just stay and sleep for the night, it should be fine.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Poor, small and not pleasant"
I know space is at a premium in Tokyo but the rooms here were awfully small, for a double room two people couldn't pass each other, as for free Wifi, you'd get a better service using a dongle as the WIFI worked intermittently, the staff were OK, but I wouldn't stay there again, also the shower curtain looked liked it had been their since the 70's and […] was disgustingly dirty, all in all I wouldn't recommend staying at this hotel Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Hotel Empire Review"
I arrived at this hotel late in a taxi, and I was worried I was in a bad area because it is in an alley, but it turned out to be fine and I felt safe walking at night alone (and I'm also a girl). The front staff was nice and the room was small but nice. One night someone was yelling (I assumed they were drunk) which I heard very clearly from my room, […] but this is not the hotels fault. All the other nights I stayed it was fine, it was in a good location only about a 15 minute walk to the Shinjuku station, or 1 minute (about only a block away) from Okubo station. There is also a great cafe and bar downstairs with very friendly staff and great food and atmosphere. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"brilliant budget hotel"
A basic hotel but we really enjoyed our stay - very conventinent, 1 min walk from Shinikubo station on yamanote line. We had a family room with two decent sized double beds which fine for me and my family (wife & two daughters) - had balcony which was nicel. Plenty of shops/restaurants near hotel - even a boulangerie by station which was great for bread […] for picnics. Also a really cool little bar next door. Rooms are basic and bathroom small but fine for the price - had fridge in room and access to boiling water in reception & microwave so could be reasonably self sufficient (although we found Japan cheaper then the UK so no problem eating out). "Great for the price"
Basic, comfortable and only 15 mins walk from Shinjuku station east exit. For the price we paid, (very cheap for Shinjuku) I wasn't expecting a palace. "A Bare-Boned Beauty."
Don't let the low score for comfort fool you. This is an excellent little hotel. However you should be aware of the realities.... This is a bare-bones establishment - no frills, no cable TV, and such like in your room - and it really is a place to lay your bones at the end of the day. However, to be able to stay that close to Shinjuku station for […] about a third of the cost of a more normal hotel, you cannot expect miracles. "Schöne Zimmer in guter Lage"
