"I was expecting a little more.."
I would give this hotel a 3.5 rating for a few reasons: Small rooms, photos in website can be deceiving, and I heard that quite a bit from other customers while we were there. Location is fair, walking distance to main attractions in Waikiki. Customer service was good, attentive, but nothing over the normal for a tourist-oriented place like Waikiki. […] I don't know, I guess I was expecting more from this place based on the pics, and other reviews I had seen, and let it be clear I'm not a picky person at all. "Reasonably price hotel with good proximity to all"
The hotel staff was always extremely courteous and provided service over and above expectations. Kudos to them. Only issue was that the room was furnished beautifully, however the furniture did not have drawers so that one had to live out of a suitcase. This was not a major problem, but I did just want to mention it. I would not hesitate to stay here […] again. It is in a great location, close to everything in the center of Waikiki. The hotel was in a great location, less than 5 minutes to the beach and right in the middle of shopping and dining on Waikiki. Also easy to get to the canal and parks for great runs. The hotel was clean and everything in top notch condition. It was off the major streets so it was pretty quiet too. We'd definitely go back.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice interior. Convenient location"
There is really not much in the hotel, rooms are clean, nice interior, AC might keep on after a while.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice place, friendly staff"
This was just a nice place. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Room was clean and spacious. It wasn't right on the beach, which wasn't a problem for us. Nothing spectacular about it, but it was a good value and we'd stay there again. (I rated it all 4's because a place have to be really outstanding to get top marks.)Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Good surrounding area. Most of them are within walking distance. Convenience stores and restaurants are great, close to the beach and close to the International Market.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Didn't Meet Expectations"
We just got back from a 4 night stay at the Shoreline. The Good: It is styled well - modern design and fresh, light colors. I'm a design lover which I why I chose the hotel in the first place. It's also in a great location for a hotel that is not on the beach and was one of the cheaper options. The staff was very nice and helpful. The Not So Great: […] It didn't feel that clean, especially in the bathroom. The cleaning service basically just made beds and replaced towels...this is OK but most hotels tidy up a bit more which is appreciated. We left tips too, but service stayed the same. Also, the room was verrry small, as was the balcony (one chair). Not a great view of anything. And while the design was good, you can definitely tell they remodeled an old hotel: popcorn ceilings, stained tile, etc. They also seemed to be very empty, so it would have been nice to bump us up a few floors instead of the 4th. Anything to exceed expectations a bit. Overall, this place was only marginally less expensive than a beachfront big-name hotel with a view. I chose it initially because we didn't need beachfront and Joie de Vivre usually has great hotels, but this one fell below the mark. It's cute, but I'd rather spend a little more and stay somewhere else next time. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"great location, bad view"
Location is awesome (only way it could be better is if it were on the beach!). The rooms are large for Waikiki and reasonably well-appointed. Only two minor complaints: 1) There was definitely not enough lighting, so it was very dark in the room in the evening. 2) The view was disgusting. The next building over towards the beach has a bunch of balconies […] facing the Shoreline, and most of them are used to store garbage. Gross. I was on the 8th floor, and if I had been any lower, I certainly would have complained, as my whole view would have been of the nastiness. Was there for work, so didn't check out the pool, but did go to the beach (nice large beach towels provided by front desk). Also, the A/C here is great, and the room was super dry. Overall, decent hotel, but definitely ask for a room on a high floor (which, BTW, don't all have microwaves or fridges). Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"It was nice but not worth the cost"
The hotel was nice as were the staff but I didn't feel that it provided great value for money as the room was very small. The location was good for shopping but it was hard to sleep due to noise and the fact the blinds didn't block out the morning light so I'd prefer to be a little further out and either pay less, have a larger room (with a decent sized […] TV & space for luggage). "Far from the best"
When I got there the luggage elevator was out of order so I had to lug my luggage up the stairs. On the way down the hall to my room there were a couple of piles of laundry in the hallway. When I got in the room the tv remote did not work. The bathroom was quite tight with a big column in it. You had to keep putting your room card key in the slot on […] the wall to keep the AC going. Every time I tried to call the front desk the line was busy. I used self-parking which was across the street. When I paid for my parking the attendant told me to give my receipt to the hotel and I would get a refund, but when I did they told me that wasn't true???? There wasn't a whole lot to be happy about. "Central to all."
Hotel is central to everything. Top of Waikiki on the corner, Ross, ABC, and Parking across the street. Valet parking in minimal so they fill up fast. When they do, they offer a voucher to park across the street at the trade center. Beach is 2 blocks away. Luxury ave and bus routes are 1 block away. Not the glam view you will pay for on the beach. But […] for what you save by staying here, you can walk a block to pick any of those places too. Wife and I loved it here. Roof top pools is very clean and usually empty. Response by Shoreline Hotel Waikiki, a Joie de Vivre Hotel Aloha Nicole! Thanks for posting your comments. I am very happy to hear that you enjoyed the location. It truly is very conveniently located near everything that Waikiki has to offer. My apologies that we did not exceed your expectations regarding the size of the room. Our rooms can be on the small side when comparing to hotels in other cities; however in Waikiki, the size of our rooms is very comparable to the other hotels. Our guest rooms range in size from about 220 square feet for our standard rooms up to 465 square feet for our Junior Suites. I certainly hope to welcome you back to the Shoreline again on your next visit! Mahalo! Brian Aker Director of Rooms

"Great hotel, great location, great price!"
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Shoreline. You walk into a modern well furnished lobby and are greeted by some really friendly front desk people. I love that they always have fresh lemon water and coffee in the front lobby as well. Fast elevators and really clean well furnished rooms. Rooms are small but very comfortable. I loved the bed and pillows […] and this is coming from someone with really bad back problems. I slept like a baby the entire time! Rooftop pool is small but has great views and besides you want to spend most of your time on the beach anyway. But what I really loved about this hotel was the location... Half a block from the beach, high end shopping, restaurants and the big resort hotels. As a lone female traveller, I always felt safe even at night. Overall, really enjoyed my stay and would definitely stay there again. Aloha! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Not worth the money."
We reserved the room for 6 nights. Our room faced the street which was very noisy early in the mornings. Also no dark shade or blinds to keep morning sun out. One day we came back to the room in the late afternoon after sightseeing, our room door was propped wide open with a towel. The maid had left it that way after cleaning. Luckily nothing was missing […] but we were very upset that had happened. Hotel management was apologetic but we were shocked it even occurred. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good room in a no-frills hotel"
As usual, the pictures on the website are a bit deceiving. The hotel and room were quite a bit smaller than anticipated, however, the location was right in the heart of Waikiki which is what we were looking for. The reservations considered the room as "city view" which was in fact, a view of a parking structure straight ahead and a view of a very "run […] down" eyesore next door. We spent very little time in the hotel room so none of this was a problem for us. We required a rental car so we had to pay high costs for parking. Luckily, we had read ahead and weren't shocked at the $26 per day fee. Also, for anyone looking for a gym it is good to know that they offer a one-time visitors pass to a Waikiki gym but it will cost $10. The pool is Very Tiny but it is on top of the hotel and gets good sun throughout the day. The room and bed were comfortable and clean and the staff were professional. The room and hotel met our needs for this particular trip. I would recommend this hotel to a person who is looking for a no-frills hotel room for a reasonable price. "My Experience at Shoreline Hotel"
Shoreline hotel is great. I enjoyed the fact that the room had a small fridge, microwave, safe and a coffee pot. I loved the fact that this hotel is across from Starbucks. I cannot function effectively without my coffee so I was happy that Starbucks was so close by. The ABC store was also next to the hotel. You can purchase things at the store that […] you might need. This hotel is pretty close to a lot of things in Waikiki. The beach is two blocks away so if you are looking for a hotel, pretty close to the beach, this isn't it. I would stay here again. It is cheaper than most hotels in Waikiki or so I have been told. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"basic hotel, great location, great price"
I travelled with a significant other. We were looking for a clean and comfortable place to shower, sleep and get dressed in between going to the beach, shopping and exploring Oahu. Shoreline was fantastic for our purposes. This is my third time staying in Waikiki, each time in a different hotel. In the past I've stayed in a hotel that was right across […] from the beach but was old, un-updated and small. The other hotel was about the same distance from the beach as Shoreline but much older. Both were priced higher than the Shoreline when I was booking this time around. The Shoreline Hotel looks like it was recently renovated, just like in the pictures. Our room was modern, clean and comfortable. The TV had a great selection of channels. Coffee in the room was complimentary and the fridge had complimentary water bottles. The hotel doesnt have amenities like a pool, gym or room service. For us it was great, we wouldnt use those things so why pay for them? I think the hotel offers discounted passes to a nearby fitness center for interested guests. We probably would have taken advantage of this if we had known in advance and packed our gym clothes. The location is AMAZING! We were right in the heart of all the shopping. There are plenty of great restaurants (we liked Doraku for sushi and Roy's). And a grocery store (Food Pantry) is a 5-10 min walk and has fantastic fresh fruit, deli and bakery for cheap. Beach was 5-7 min walk. Overall I would highly recommend. "great location with cleanness"
I really liked this hotel during my trip with only one minor issue--the housekeeping was not so great. Sometimes they forgot somethings to leave (e.g. towels) so I had to call the front desk asking extra towels and stuffs. But other than that everything was great. Walking distance from everything: beach, food, bars, & shopping. Rooms were clean and up to date- even had a "clean remote" which was a cleanable/water-resistant remote. The valet was the only gripe I had about this place. Because the property doesn't have its own parking, they provide a valet. The valet was ALWAYS full, and had to get a ticket to park […] across the street. Just FYI, you will ALWAYS pay for parking in Waikiki, so Valet is usually worth it, but wish I could use it- henc the Rating of 3 for hotel service. Otherwise, great hotel! Response by Shoreline Hotel Waikiki, a Joie de Vivre Hotel Aloha Charles! Thank you so much for staying with us! We appreciate your comments and especially your 5-star review. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed our location. Waikiki truly does have some amazing restaurants, bars, and shopping - not to mention our world-famous beach. It almost feels as if all of these wonderful places are just an extension of our lobby because everything is in such close proximity to the Shoreline Hotel Waikiki. Sorry about the parking situation. You are absolutely correct! Parking is extremely limited almost everywhere in Waikiki. Even though we may not have had space to valet park your car every night that you stayed with us, we are lucky to have a relationship with the garage across the street to allow for a discounted overnight parking rate. Normally, they charge $48 for a 24-hour period, but we have worked out a special deal so that guests of the Shoreline only have to pay $24 when our valet parking is full. We are still working to make our parking options better, so we definitely appreciate the feedback. Come stay with us again! Mahalo! Brian Aker Director of Rooms

"In the heart of Waikiki."
I enjoyed staying at this hotel. It is right in the middle of Waikiki but on a side street so there isn't a lot of foot traffic, which is great. It is also 2 blocks away from the beach and right across the street from Sheraton Hotel's infinity pool (go check that out!). It's in a great location full of shops and restaurants so there is never a need […] for a car. The downside of this hotel located in the heart of Waikiki is the traffic noise. My boyfriend and I were woken up on our last night by a loud motorcycle ripping down the streets at 4am, people yelling, and police sirens. But it wasn't until the last night so that's not too bad. Also, they do not have blackout shades, for whatever reason. We asked the front desk about this incase it was just our room and was informed that all rooms do not have blackout shades, only cream colored decorative ones. This made sleeping in entirely impossible cause it was so bright. So we were awake by 7am almost every day but at least, it made for a nice long vacation since we were out all day. The room with the king bed isn't particularly huge but the decorations and furniture are all modern and let's be honest, you shouldn't need to stay in your room all day anyway. I would certainly stay here again in the future but this time, I'd bring a sleep mask and ear plugs. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Just a block or so from beach - many shops nearby"
A very nice 14 story hotel. The view from the roof (where it also has a pool) is great as you can see all around including to the beach/ocean just a block or so away. Getting to the beach very easy - you can walk a block and go through Royal Hawaiian or Sheraton property to get to the beach (which is public) or go a block left to the public access (lined […] with parked surfboards which was interesting) to get to the beach. The amount of shopping nearby was incredible. High end stores and restaurants as well as grocery store, pharmacy, gift shops including a large open air market with many different kiosks/shops. Cheap buffets nearby as well as high end restaurants like Chucks Steakhouse, Dukes, and Hula Grill. Also the Seaside Grill is just around the corner for a reasonably priced breakfast that is very good. Everything seems to be available within 5 blocks in various directions. Only negative I saw during my stay was minor - I had to continually remind the housekeeping staff to replenish the complimentary coffee but they always did so on request. Nothing that would prevent me from going back to same hotel. The front desk staff was extremely friendly and helpful. They'll give you maps to show you how to get to various things and one of them even printed Google "walking directions" for me on the occasions I asked him for directions to a couple of different things. "How a Hotel can Ruin a week in Hawaii"
First of all, when you stay at a hotel that not a single cab company knows about, you know you are probably in trouble. Second, don't get sucked in by the pictures on the Hotels.com website. The property was VERY creative with these. We paid for a higher tier room and there was NO seating area, no seeming little kitchen nook, no room to do much but […] lie in the bed...there was, however, a wall mounted air conditioning unit reminiscent of those that you would find at a motor lodge in Des Moines (and it only worked part of the time). Also, be careful of paying for a "partial ocean view". Where this property is located, that means MAYBE seeing a small triangle of ocean somewhere on the horizon...this property is distinctly land locked. Also, this property is supposedly "newly renovated"...they should have spent some effort "renovating" the bathrooms! All this (and so many more) complaints aside, the worst part of this property was an aloof and seemingly uncaring staff. They had NO solution for any problem that I reported, only meeting my questions with blank, fish-eyed stares. Look, it is not the worst property around, but the Shoreline pretty much single-handedly put a negative overall feel on my first week ever in Hawaii. That should be enough said! Please accept my sincere apology for all of the frustrations that you encountered. Your feedback for improvement will help guide our team in correcting these issues so that other guests are not faced with the same frustrations. Unlike many hotels, every room at the Shoreline has a unique layout meaning no two rooms are exactly alike. For our photography, we captured what best represents that particular room type. We are currently in the process of reviewing the view from each room to ensure that we are appropriately describing the view. Furthermore, whenever a new hotel opens in Waikiki, there is always a chance that the taxi drivers may not know the new hotel right away.
