"How a Hotel can Ruin a week in Hawaii"
First of all, when you stay at a hotel that not a single cab company knows about, you know you are probably in trouble. Second, don't get sucked in by the pictures on the Hotels.com website. The property was VERY creative with these. We paid for a higher tier room and there was NO seating area, no seeming little kitchen nook, no room to do much but […] lie in the bed...there was, however, a wall mounted air conditioning unit reminiscent of those that you would find at a motor lodge in Des Moines (and it only worked part of the time). Also, be careful of paying for a "partial ocean view". Where this property is located, that means MAYBE seeing a small triangle of ocean somewhere on the horizon...this property is distinctly land locked. Also, this property is supposedly "newly renovated"...they should have spent some effort "renovating" the bathrooms! All this (and so many more) complaints aside, the worst part of this property was an aloof and seemingly uncaring staff. They had NO solution for any problem that I reported, only meeting my questions with blank, fish-eyed stares. Look, it is not the worst property around, but the Shoreline pretty much single-handedly put a negative overall feel on my first week ever in Hawaii. That should be enough said! Response by Shoreline Hotel Waikiki, a Joie de Vivre Hotel Aloha RLW! Thank you so much for taking the time to share your comments about your recent trip to Hawaii and the Shoreline Hotel Waikiki. I want you to know that we very much appreciate your feedback and we take your comments very seriously. Our goal is provide a relaxed and enjoyable experience for all of our guests, but we have clearly failed to do so during your recent visit. Please accept my sincere apology for all of the frustrations that you encountered. Your feedback for improvement will help guide our team in correcting these issues so that other guests are not faced with the same frustrations. Unlike many hotels, every room at the Shoreline has a unique layout meaning no two rooms are exactly alike. For our photography, we captured what best represents that particular room type. We are currently in the process of reviewing the view from each room to ensure that we are appropriately describing the view. Furthermore, whenever a new hotel opens in Waikiki, there is always a chance that the taxi drivers may not know the new hotel right away. We are in the process of working with all of the taxi companies to ensure all taxi drivers know the Shoreline Hotel Waikiki. Thanks again for your time and your comments. We hope to welcome you back to the Shoreline again on your next visit! Mahalo! Brian Aker Director of Rooms

"Friendly Staff and Central Location..."
Stayed at the property for approx one week on this trip. The staff here were very helpful, and really have aloha spirit: we were able to check in early after a long flight, had a super fast valet, could get beach towels when needed, timely advice on attractions, etc. Also important to note that rooms were *very clean*, and housekeeping staff was very […] friendly, which is huge for me. I found the hotel location to be practical. You are close--easy walk--to the beach and shopping. But, and equally important, you are just slightly away from the madness. Seaside is a little less busy (pedestrians and motor traffic) than some of the other streets, so arrivals and departures are relatively painless. If, however, you are looking to stumble out of your room and onto a beach, this may not be the hotel for you. Also, if you are planning your trip around very small children, you may want to look elsewhere: the walk to the beach may be too much for fussy toddlers, and there is ongoing construction on both sides of Seaside (as of July 2013). Overall, however, would definitely recommend the hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great Location for Friends/Group Trips"
I loved this location which was perfect for our friends trip that included visiting a lot of tourist spots and also nightlife. I recommend this hotel if you are on a budget and just want to enjoy Waikiki. This place is incredibly close to the beach, tons of shopping, and a large selection of local and commercial restaurants. With a little bit more […] investment into the retro theme of the lobby, I could see this place taking off as a hipster destination equivalent to some places in Palm Springs. It would be great to see the owners transform the roof top pool area into a scenic hangout spot. If you're looking for more luxury and romance, I recommend looking elsewhere in Waikiki. The hotel is wonderful. Think Euro style boutique hotel. Rooms are on the smaller side, but very clean and comfortable. The bed was wonderful. Room has a micro and mini fridge. Nice bathroom amenities and towels. Super clean and fresh. Walking distance to tons of restaurants and shops. Fairly close walk to the beach. Only downside is the area is packed […] with small hotels and apartments so parking is difficult and pricey. The hotel has a parking arrangement with a nearby business park with multi-story parking. The hotel parking is a bit clunky and pricey, but the room rate is wonderful as far as value. The staff is sparkling and polite. Would absolutely stay again! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

It was very nice staying in the hotel. Hotel staff are very nice and helpful, lemonade, hot water, coffee are offered in the lobby. Good place with reasonable price.Genuine Expedia guest review
Desk service was very helpful. It was a great location. However room was small with almost no place to put your belongings. Our maid service was not the best. Room was not always cleaned when we returned in the PM and on another day didn't get towels.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Excellent for Budget Travelers - AMAZING Location"
I had a very positive experience at this hotel. Very clean, great price and the location was AMAZING! Very convenient and close to everything. The front desk people are very nice and helpful. The hotel offered beach towels, free internet and computers in the lobby- and they even had a printer you could use! The only thing I would mention is that the […] rooms are not very sound proof. We could hear people opening and closing doors all the time when we were trying to sleep. This is a small concern when everything else about our stay was ideal. We will definitely stay here again and recommend this place to friends. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Purchased a king sized partial ocean view and received a queen with a view to the parking lot. Once told the staff he made sure there is a " partial" view and is have to lean a little to the right to see it. Told me no one could help me since there's no working manager at the time. "small but nice rooms"
The Shoreline is in a great location in Waikiki. You can easily walk to the beach and many shopping areas and restaurants. We did not need to rent a car at any point during our trip, but we did need a cab to get to and from the airport. The hotel is clean and very reasonably priced, and the staff are very helpful. There is a pool on the rooftop, which […] we often had to ourselves. The room was a little small, but we didn't mind because we didn't spend much time in the room anyway. There was no room for a dresser, so you'd have to be ok living out of your suitcase and the closet. The bed was comfortable, and everything looked clean and updated. It's great on the inside, even though it doesn't look like much from the outside. It's not swanky and luxurious, but it's definitely nice, well located, well staffed, and well priced. Bottom line, I would stay there again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great hotel, but the staff makes the stay"
I have no complaints about the hotel--clean, nicely kept, rooms are somewhat small, but not too small whatsoever. However, the best part of this hotel is the staff--they are extremely & genuinely friendly and helpful. Always have a smile, ask you about your day, give great recommendations on food and things to do. I actually gave the staff a pie I bought […] from Ted's bakery on the North Shore (a must do), but couldn't take it on the plane (I would've had to throw it away). The staff wrote me the sweetest thank you note that even had small drawings of pie & Hawaiian flowers. This was completely unnecessary, but extremely sweet. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

The Shoreline Hotel Waikiki is Joie de Vivre's newest boutique property in Waikiki. As a Joie de Vivre property, every employee is encouraged to celebrate joy of life. "would stay again"
This hotel is very close to waikiki beach and all of the high end shopping. Our room was on the small side, but for a night or two, it was more than adequate. There is a. Cute Mexican restaurant adjacent to the hotel with good food and drink specials. Would definitely recommend to someone wanting the beat choice for the price.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Parking is terrible"
The hotel does not have its own parking garage. You have to park across the street, And it charges you 24 bucks every 24 hours. You need to get a parking ticket from the front desk of the hotel, Otherwise you won't to be able to park in the garage across the street even if u pay. The hotel claims to have a couple slot for valet parking, But I never […] get it during my 4 days stay. Also they don't have laundry for u to use. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Response by Shoreline Hotel Waikiki, a Joie de Vivre Hotel Aloha Kirkland Traveler, Thank you so much for taking the time to comment on the parking services that are available at the Shoreline Hotel Waikiki. The Shoreline does have very limited parking available and it does fill up very quickly - especially on the weekend. Unfortunately, most hotels in Waikiki are faced with limited parking. Our onsite parking is valet only and is $26 per night. Since we do have such a limited amount of parking available, we have partnered with the garage across the street to provide overnight parking for our guests. The garage across the street does not normally allow overnight parking. This is why a parking ticket is required. We do encourage guests who use the parking garage across the street to check with the front desk each day to see if any space has opened up in our onsite garage. We would much prefer that you are able to park with us, but unfortunately, this is just not physically possible. Please accept my sincere apologies for the frustrations that you encountered. You also mentioned that you were not able to have your clothing laundered while you were staying with us. We do offer dry cleaning and laundry services. The laundry bag is located in the closet along with the laundry slip. Thanks again for your comments. Please come back and see us again the next time you visit Waikiki! Mahalo! Great. I would definitely repeat our stay there.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great budget hotel"
If you're looking for somewhere right in Waikiki, but don't want to spend $300 per night, this is a great option. The hotel was recently renovated, and everything is nice and new. I would compare this place with staying at somewhere like a Courtyard, or Holiday Inn. The location is half a block from the main street in Waikiki, which is across from the […] Royal Hawaiian Center, with all the shopping and restaurants. The walk to the zoo is a simple 15 minute walk at the most, and the beach is less than 10 minutes. If you're looking to avoid renting a car, which is what we were going for, this is a great location. Alex and Christy at the front desk were amazing. I work at a resort, and the customer service, friendliness, and constant great disposition was impressive, and made you feel as if you were staying at a 5 star resort. These two employees were the highlight of the hotel! The overall building looks new, and is remodeled to be very modern. The complimentary computer access, and free wifi are great features. The beds are comfortable, the tvs are nice, new flat screens, with loads of channels, the complimentary water is a nice touch, and there is plenty of comfortable pillows on the beds. The only thing that I took a point off the facilities for is the view if you're on a lower floor, on the ocean side. The building across the alley looks very ghetto, but everything else is nice. I would recommend a mountain side room. Overall, I would certainly stay here again! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Awesome Stay for the Price!"
Staff was awesome. Hotel was in a great location! Just small but clean and had the necessities!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The room was really nice and clean. They did a good job with renovating the hotel. The hotel services was good also. The front desk personnel are really friendly, personable, and professional. It was an easy check-in/checkout. The location of the hotel surprised me. It's in the heart of downtown Wakiki, walking distance to the beach; an easy 5-10 minute […] walk. Ross Dept. store is directly across the street. A lot of construction is going on, but doesn't take away from the beauty of the area. The only thing that was baffling was that the room did not have a small table/desk and the sliding glass door was kind of old. You could barely see through the window. The rooms are a decent size and should be able to accomodate at least a small table or desk. I had to eat sitting on the bed or the chair with the food on my lap. I didn't like that. I also had to sit my laptop on the bed or my lap which was uncomfortable. Overall,, I had a very good experience and will use them again, but will ask for a room with a table or desk. "Great Hotel for a Business Trip"
This hotel was perfect for a 3 day business trip with some slack in the schedule. The hotel met all my needs and is located in Waikiki where I could spend time relaxing between meetings in a vibrant resort environment. The room was clean and comfortable and nicely decorated. The staff was great - friendly and helpful. The Shoreline doesn't have a restaurant […] or a pool deck but there are so many restaurants and hotel pools in the area, it didn't really matter. A great way to stay in the middle of the action in Waikiki. If you want a comfortable, clean, friendly, well located, safe, reasonably priced, enjoyable place from which to base your activities this is it. If you are going to sit around the room all day and not go outside you might want something fancier. I'd definitely do it all over again.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Very clean room in the middle of Waikiki"
The newly renovated rooms are stylish and very clean. We stayed for 5 nights, and really enjoyed the location and the restful sleeps we got from the super comfortable beds. The staffs (Sally!) were all very helpful and welcoming, and they provided beach towels at the front desk. Parking in Waikiki was expensive everywhere, so we used their valet for […] $23/day, which included in and out for the whole day. There is also a cheap parking garage right across the street for $11 overnight parking (until 6am). The only complaint is the room temperature was not that well regulated by the AC, but we overcome that by turning the temperature down to around 72oF. "Great simple stay"
We live on Oahu, but were looking for a fun night away from the kids where I could drink and not have to worry about getting a taxi. This hotel was perfect for our needs: cheap (comparably), good location, clean room, nice staff. They only have valet parking for $26 a night, so look elsewhere to park, a few lots are on the same street. Also, the drop […] off for valet is hard to find, I suggest you go through the alley, Waikolu Way, to get to the sharp turn for the car drop off/valet. Mexican restaurant on site, didn't eat there but it was busy and rowdy. Top of Waikiki is at the end of the street, worth a stop by during happy hour, $5 drinks and $8 appetizers, but I wouldn't eat dinner there. Front desk was nice, they have coffee and water available 24/7. No pool, but the beach is a 5 minute walk. All in all, I was pleasantly surprised and will stay here again. The hotel is located in a convenient location, close to public transportation.
