The staff at the Leather Bottle are extremely helpful and caring, they could not have been more supportive and kind. We also loved the ambiance of the old pub. The location was charming in a tiny village, and located just the right distance outside of the urban and less lovely Gravesend. The breakfast was outstanding and the dinner and wine selection […] fine. The rooms, however, (esp. bathroom, carpet, and bed comforter), I regret to say, are dated and in need of updating and some tlc, but if you can overlook that, you will enjoy the opportunity to have an authentic English tavern overnight stay experience. Great 4 century old hotel filled with Dicken's memorabilia. Lovely outdoor section and excellent food area. Lovely breakfasts and dinners. This is a historic hotel, so be prepared for squeaky floors etc. Spent 4 days using this ideal base to visit Canterbury region.

It's a beautiful old building, in a lovely area. Staying there, having a pub lunch (great) in the sun was fantastic. But I have marked it down because the door latch was hanging on by a thread, which would make it really easy to damage or break into, and there is quite a lot of noise from the pub on an evening.

Disapointed with the Leather bottle as it had such a great write up and It looked great from the outside. Nice comfortable bar area with a good choice of beers. But as we checked in just after 9pm there was no food, the staff were unwilling even to make us a sandwich. I made the mistake of booking the twin room with private bathroom, don’t do it, the bathroom is down the corridor from the room, and it is not good, the main lock was smashed off the door, however there was another latch, but there was NO MIRROR and someone had left a large visitor in the loo. Overall this bathroom is very sub standard, it’s very rough […] around the edges and needs a complete make-over. The hotel room itself very old fashioned, has a washbasin but once again NO MIRROR , so what is the point of the wash basin. It is not what you would call "clean" although the bed was ok. Quite cold in the room, but it was snowing outside. I now understand the creaking floorboards outside the room, also lots of road noise, room not at all soundproof, very thin walls. Breakfast is not available until 8.00am, so another disappointment as all hotels should start breakfast at 7.00am – although the staff were excellent and offered to make a packed breakfast - food in the restaurant very ordinary. I would not book this hotel again, there is much better available for the same or less money. Read more

Easy to find in the small village. The old, mis-shaped walls and rooms add lovely character but the creaking floor boards start to get to you after a while... Superb cooked breakfast too.

I appreciated the history of the hotel, and the oldy worldy style. But this hotel is in need of some updating. The creaking floorboards on the landing when other guests past the room restricted my early night. It was like going back in time, the room was clean, the radiator was on but the room was freezing.

The staff couldn't have been more helpful. I am recovering from illness and they were happy to adapt meals to suit my dietary needs. Also our room was upgraded when I requested a private bathroom. Overall it is a very desirable property with lots of interesting Dickens memorabilia .

Oldie worldie pub full of character. Good food including a hearty full english (with 2 whole tomatoes! - I hate the 1/2 a tomato which seems to be the vogue in B & B's nowadays). Bathroom was down the corridor a little way but I had a key which made it a private bathroom. 10 mins drive from motorway.

From the outside the Leather Bottle looks inviting, but it all changes on the inside. The room was very dusty, lamp bulb missing, right next to the road, therefore noisy. Bathroom was not en-suite although a 'private bathroom was available down the corridor. Again, bathroom was in need of refurbishing and the electric shower refused to function. All […] in all it was a disappointing stay, only made better by the quality of food and drinks in the bar. This was a great place, full of character, fantastic pub food and very convenient for the A2/M25. If you're on business then it's definitely a much better alternative to the bland Premierinns in the area.

Not quite what I saw in photos, the rooms and hall ways were extremely dirty with dust, crumbs, cobwebs. It's nice they supply tea and coffee to room, it's a shame the creams where curdded and out of date. The private bathroom is down the hall way but that was so outdated and rusty and generally nasty. Decided to just spray more lynx on and jumped in […] the car and came home to have a shower. Me and the wife wasnt best please with the conditions especially for the price I paid. I went based on another review. They should have been truthfull about the place. Take your own cleaning products with you. The hotel inspector could do with a call out to this place. Staff friendly, breakfast was ok. Nice bacon. Shame didn't ask how we wanted our eggs. Read more

I was disappointed by the standard of furniture in the room, the provision of only one comfortable chair in a double room and the fact that bedside lights were positioned to make reading in bed difficult as they were so low compared with the bed. I was offered a "continental breakfast" but it transpired this only meant I could share the toast and jam […] served with my husband's full English breakfast. Again, disappointing. Really like the leather bottle, very quaint and oldy-worldy. Not for those who like their city centre hotels. Staff were really friendly. TV in room didn't work, but we didn't really need it, sure a quick retune would've made the difference. Bed was comfy, if a bit cramped, but what do you expect out of a victorian 4 poster!? I would be embaressed to offer this accomodation to anyone - the room was dark, with only 1 overhead light with very low wattage bulb. There were 2 old pull cords not attached to any light. The duvet cover was torn and the duvet itself had seen better days. The pillows too were in poor condition - I wrapped mine in a towel before I used it to sleep. […] There was no comfortable chair to sit on. There was a dirty plastic tray attached to the wall with some limited tea/coffee/milk selection. Bathroom tiles grubby. No spare toilet roll. Nothing to make this room recommend it. for a very reasonable price the hotel was great. We stayed overnight Saturday, whilst spending Saturday and Sunday at Brands Hatch.
