This hotel was the final stop on our one-month trek thru Australia and New Zealand. It was a fine hotel with friendly people (none of whom were New Zealanders) and clean comfortable rooms. The resturant in the hotel served the best meal we had in NZ. The only negative was the location. It was a 10-15 minute walk to the main shopping and entertainment areas and inconvenient to the various bus routes. Being situated atop one of Auckland's many hills, it was a tough walk up hill at the end of the day.

Hotel looks basic from the outside but that is decieving because the staff was very nice and helpful. The room was clean and the towels were plush and the beds very comfortable.

Located in Auckland (Newton), YMCA Hostel is close to Norman Ng Building, Sky Tower, and Auckland Town Hall. Also nearby are University of Auckland and Mt. Eden.

you pretty much know what to expect at the Y. This place is clean. that's pretty much all I was hoping for. Room was very small, shared bathroom. We booked via web site and it was so easy. The place was just accessible to where we wanted to go. I personally like the idea of the fridge in our room so to keep our grocery and food fresh. "A perfect place to crash"
I was after something very simple - a clean, reliable place to sleep for a couple of nights - and got it. The location is excellent. Everything went smoothly at check in. My room, and the hostel, were very clean. The room was small but tidy and everything in it as it should be. The showers and toilets were new, and reliable. was ok. a must needs fixing because of safety issues is the womans bathroom handdryer. I have stayed only for 3 days at the 5th floor in the new room, freshly painted with a nice view on the harbour. It is also very much appreciated to use new bathrooms even if there is rubbish bin missing still! Staff can be efficient. "Cheap and met up to cost expectations"
There were no women's bathroom or showers on the floor where my room was. The showers were two to a room with no lock on the door, felt a bit risky, however I was not disturbed. "Cheap but noisy"
Our stay was very noisy. When we checked in we wern't told there was major construction happening on our floor a few doors down. Walls were being knocked down, one day we used the showers and the next they were gone. We asked to change rooms and were moved a few levels down which was much better. You could still hear the construction but it wasn't as […] bad. Accross the road from the hostel was the fire station and ambulance station so sirens went off all the time. The hostel also had an intercom system in every room so if someone recieved a phonecall it was announced to everyone in the hostel. If you're looking for cheap this is the place to stay and its close to town which is good, but I wouldn't stay there again and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone else. "YMCA Hostel Auckland"
I only spent one night here but the standards were excellent! I arrived at midnight and the security guard had my key waiting. I had booked a single private room but received a private twin room, so even better. It was spotlessly clean and tidy. The bed was comfy an the linen looked almost new.
