"Gorgeous place"
Gorgeous room in a beautiful setting with lovely help. The proprietor was accommodating and very sweet even though I was there during the end of their cafe's remodel. I would definitely stay here again.

Most important issue was the street noise. When you closed the window it was still difficult to sleep but it became really hot and no fan available. A fan in the room would also dampen the street noise.

"Good location, but steep steps to accommodation"
This was more of a b and b than a hotel. The accommodation was above a café and access was challenging in wet weather and the dark. The facilities were good although I always feel that wet rooms are over rated and without good ventilation, prone to damp smells.

"Give Valance a go"
2 night stay as a surprise to the wife, place ticks a lot boxes.Very warm welcome with good staff and generally a cool vibe about the café/bar element, little terrace front and back, plenty of seating is side. Breakfast was a v good selection - no English breakfast tho and we thought we would go out for a full English but never did, there are plenty of places within 5/10 min walk if you must. Rooms are nice but a little small, decent size bathrooms, our bath was bigger than average so worth filling it up for a soak. Would recommend a stay here and its in a great spot amongst classy shops, decent food and drink alternatives. Castle is right behind the hotel and worth a visit for a few quid. Parking is a bit hit and miss as the hotel only has a couple of parking spaces allocated.

"Quirky & characterful"
There is some noise at the front of the hotel if that's where your room is from the bar opposite, but that shuts at midnight & this is a main road with many bars & restaurants anyway. The rooms are above the hotels own bar/restaurant but there was no noise from that. Its a quirky, characterful village hotel/B&B & all the better for it.

"A short trip to Swansea"
Spent two nights at this lovely B&B. The staff were friendly and the small room had everything needed for a short break. The room is up a lot of steps so it's not suitable for the infirm. The continental buffet breakfast was served in the Cwtch Bar. It was enough for me but heartier appetites might have wanted more.

"Weekend to explore Gower"
Mumbles was a good location to explore Gower. The hotel staff were really friendly, the facilities lovely and they couldn't do too much for us. Everything was better than we expected and made the price reasonable. Great for anyone who likes boutique type hotels with character in the heart of the village. The only price to pay was the noise from the nightclub. It didn't disturb us but if you're a light sleeper and like to have the window open, you may want a room at the back which is probably quieter. Limited choice of eating places after about 9pm which we found out when we arrived late.

"Comfy beds quirky cafe"
Stayed one night and although the weather wasn't great we had a very warm welcome. Not much parking space but the staff helped us to with extra parking so it wasn't a problem. Would definitely make a return journey ! Nothing too much trouble and the extra touches we thought were lovely. The lack of plug points near mirrors was the only down side. All in all lovely B &B / cafe thanks

"Small room for the cost"
You cant fault the location, cleanliness or friendliness of the staff but the room is far too small for the price. Literally couldn't swing a cat in the room. Also paying that much money and entering via outside metal steps is more suited to a hostel than the cost per night room for staying here.

"lovely place hidden in plain sight"
Stayed here for a weekend whilst in the area for a wedding. The team there couldn't be more polite and helpful. Check in was quick and easy, they even kept the kitchen open a little longer so we could have something to eat. The cafe it self is lovely and bustling on a Saturday lunch time. Ambiance is nice and its tastefully decorated. Food and drink quality is good. The Room was slightly on the small side but it has stunning views of the castle if you have a rear facing view. Room is well furnished and the bathroom was lovely and clean. Breakfast was a continental with really good quality baked pastries and unlimited tea and coffee. Maid service available which was an unexpected treat. There is private access to the the rooms from the rear of the cafe in case your worried about curfews etc. (That comes with some b&bs) All to be said we had a lovely weekend and have found a little gem hidden on the high street. If we go visiting the mumbles again we will be sure to stay here.

"Friendly and very helpful staff"
Lovely rooms and the staff could not have been more helpful. The only slight issues were that the road outside our room was very noisy because of traffic and outside cafe seating just below our window. Also the rooms were separated from the cafe/bar by an outside wooden landing which was slippery when wet - even with the non slip mats, and a steep metal staircase, which could be hazardous in the wet and dark.

"European feel"
Unusual to have rooms above a cafe but very well appointed and finished to a high standard, especially the bathroom. Although at the time of our visit there was a problem with the drains which caused an unpleasant smell in the bathroom. Service was very good and the breakfast was fresh with a good choice.(continental).

"Very pleasant weekend break"
The room, although small was very comfortable and the bathroom was excellent. Our room was at the back of the building and overlooked Oystermouth Castle and it was very picturesque. We were very lucky with the weather and hotel staff gave us some good directions to walk to Langland Beach which we very much enjoyed. The hotel was situated in a good position on the main street in Mumbles so that we could eat elsewhere and come back to the hotel for a night cap, although food was available at the hotel. It was unfortunate that the hotel was rather noisy from revellers outside, but it didn't worry us too much!

"A quality stopover"
Stayed here after a wedding and although we didn't spend much time here it did the job - room was small but was well laid out so it had everything we needed. Breakfast was delicious but continental style, so don't stay here if not getting a full fry-up is a deal-breaker...

"Clean and contemporary but overpriced and noisy"
Stayed 2 nights over Easter with Partner. Good location just off the beach "strip" - Easy to find as whole building painted wine red with cute lights out front at night. Access to rooms is gained through bar/cafe, out the back, and up a flight of outdoor stairs - odd and disjointed. No reception for accommodation, you just deal with the bar staff. They were friendly and helpful though. Breakfast served at the back of the bar (access from room means going outside and down fire exit steps and in through bar back door) It was freezing when we stayed and this was a horrible and rude awakening before brekkie ! Lovely fresh croissants and pain au chocolat, choice of cereal and yoghurts, juice and hot drinks. Nice but limited. Rooms were clean but small. Supplied with dressing gown, hot drinks(no minibar), and complimentary toiletries although this included 4xconditionners and 1xshower gel! Towels were frayed and very rough. We had a Superior room (Layland) which was nice but a little cramped. Decor was modern, eclectic and tasteful. Bedside lamps weren't bright enough to read by. Main issue was with the bar opposite which was open late and who's music was VERY loud and stopped us sleeping both nights of our stay. Can only imagine that this will be worse in summer - wouldn’t recommend this room for that reason. All in all a mediocre overall experience with a strange set up/layout and too much noise. Overpriced in terms of value for money. Unfortunately wouldn't stay again.

"Lovely"

Stayed here for the weekend as a get away to celebrate our 3rd wedding anniversary. The room is lovely and the position in town is excellent. The restaurant/bar is really nice and the staff are very friendly. Lots of cafes and wine bars in town. Unfortunately for us the castle was closed for winter and the pier was shut for maintenance work so not much to do but the walk along the waterfront is nice particularly when you reach the end near the lighthouse. Fun and games walking across the rocks but worth it for the view.

"Noisy and over priced"

Stayed on a Saturday night in room on front of building. Very noisy until one in the morning due to people leaving bars opposite, loud music, cars going past, taxi horns, drunk singers. The room itself was clean and comfortable but poor storage /hanging space. Would not stay again!

"Just needed a bed"

Just needed a bed but learning that World Cup of Rugby made a difficult task to find one. Searching online I finally found one at Valance. I had not really any expectation except the price was high and the place was red. It stayed like that all my visit. Due to late arrival and booking I wanted to call and learned they closed by 9 PM. Said that they stayed by and when I arrived they open a closed place as I was a long waiting friend coming from far away. I got a room on the top of the house, a room I really liked. Not a grand American hotel room but a cozy room with a feel of home. I liked this place. I could feel, this is nearly as good as home. I had a long morning, and went down for breakfast. Again not a grand big buffet but enough of everything and loads of charm, definitely a place to come back to. I left with the same good feeling as I got when I arrived. I will come back, when times allow. This place would got a 5 star from me but it did cost a lot more than you would expect from a local and small Bar with a rooms. It did not put me off, but it cost Valance a star.

"Sunny Saturday snack (and beer)"
08/23/15 Impanatori Bournemouth, United Kingdom
After a rainy morning, the sun came out in Mumbles, so we went for a stroll, looking for a beer garden. Cafe Valance has a great sun-trap at the back, just a small shame about the smokers. Great food service from Tony - we shared a green salad, tomato salad and calamari and several San Miguel. Lovely atmosphere, pleasant decor. Busy all day long. We returned later in the evening for a nightcap, there was a live singer so we stayed until closing time. Recommended.

"Clean but pricey."

My wife and I stayed here some time ago for our anniversary. The room was very clean and modern, however it was small and felt cramped at times. Whilst this place has huge potential, we feel that it was overpriced and the noise from downstairs and from the surrounding area was a little too much. The cafe is lovely with good produce and entertainment but we found it difficult to sleep above it.

What a fab and groovy little place, my wife and I stopped for breakfast and evening meal and what's not to like, really nice staff, great food and a nice choice but more than that this little gem had a really great continental vibe about it. I have to say in addition to all that the coffee was exceptional and two cups set me up for the day.

"Cafe Valance, full of intereting detail and delightful touches"

Extremely comfortable bed and luxurious bedding. Good central location, above a great bar, serving good quality good. Lovely bathroom, with fuzzy duck toiletries, not a brand i've seen before and just one of the many unique touches that gives this place its character. Staff extremely helpful, and the only reason I've not given a five star rating is that it would have been event better if full breakfast were included in the tariff. Continental is offered, but full english is extra.
