Saraichik Hotel - Almaty

We stayed for two nights at the Saraichik waiting for a flight connection. The hotel is situated in a suburb of Almaty and is basic but clean, we found the reception staff to be both friendly and helpful, although the majority only speak Russian or Kazak (Take a phrase book) The Hotel is a ride into the city centre and we were informed that a Taxi into […] town would be around £3 to £5 each way but would depend on your negotiation skills and ability to speak either Russian or Kazak. (The hotel can arrange this for you but the rate is higher) There are local buses that could transport you for around £1 rtn trip, unfortunately no one seemed to know which one to take. Breakfast was OK for a coffee ,but we skipped the food and opted for a pastry from one of the local bakers. There are a couple of decent restaurants very close to the Hotel and a currency exchange just around the corner , I would say that its good value if you are passing through, but for a longer stay a city hotel would be a better option. If you are in Almaty for a relaxing and carefree vacation, Sarayshik is just the right choice. The human touch can easily be felt. Yes, it is a bit far from downtown, but a few basic words of Russian will get you to downtown Almaty for less than 2000 tenge. Bringing a hotel card with you sure helps you to get home easily.

The hotel is nice, clean, I liked their style. You'll be in trouble though if you don't speak Russian/Kazakh at least a bit. I speak Russian, so it was fine. You'll have to take taxi to get to the main sites or business areas. It's close to the airport though. Not much to see around in the neighbourhood. The breakfast was good, although if you're vegan, […] gluten/lactose free, or even vegetarian it might be not for you (why are you going to Kazakhstan then in the first place?). Anyway, don't apply Western standards and don't expect too much, then you'll be fine. Beware of Almaty air pollution. It's horrible, so allergic bronchitis was my main trouble, though it has nothing to do with the hotel. Take it easy, grab a phrase book, don't get upset with minor things and enjoy your stay. The reception staff were friendly and the sheets on the bed were clean, but that is the only nice thing l can say about this hotel. The room was claustrophobic, tv only in russian, there was a big gap between the door and the frame so we could hear everything going on outside in the corridor. The breakfast was disappointing, very uninspiring and if […] you do not eat dairy or carbohydrates there will be a big problem. The dinner restaurant on the premises recommended to us by the staff ( of course!) was a disgrace, it took them five tries before getting our order right, even though the only form of communication was through pointing at the pictures in the menu. We were quite patient to start with but when ordering beef steak and receiving pork and manager still insisting that this was beef, I got very upset, especially when they demanded I pay for the meal even though I did not eat it. Also the distance to points of interests as per the map on hotel.com website is grossly wrong. I chose the hotel as according to the site we could have walked to and from sights. 2.2 miles to Panfilov Park? Don't think so, try 12.2 miles! To sum it up; think twice before booking! Read more

The room was spacious and nice, but the finishing was badly done (during the construction of the hotel, I suppose) so the bathrooms and other things already need maintenance. First the room paid and received definitely wasn't junior suite. After arrival the electricity went out for half a night and since generator is just few meters far the night was horrible. Internet = don't count on it is so unreliable that few minutes you are connected, few not. Simple if you plan do any work forget about it. Room is not equip for a […] business trip, only one socket if you unplug TV, table non existent chairs unsuitable. Breakfast the worst i ever got. Location is approx 40min car to the central part or any usable part of city. During the day the part of the hotel is used for some local activities like dance training etc. so if you expect silence or quite time from 15:00 to 19:00 forget about it. Read more

It was very clean and services were superb with good english speaking people. But it is away from the downtown, which means it takes about an hour by taxi from the hotel to the downtown. The reason mainly comes from severe traffic jam during peak hours in the morning and evening. Except this, everythink is satisfactory.

cuando llegue con mi novia al hotel, yo tenia una reservación para una habitación estándar pero al entrar a ella estaba muy pequeña para los dos personas ya que nos hospedaríamos ocho días. nos quedamos dos noches ahí, hasta que nos dieron el cambio a una habitación mas grande la cual estaba muy bien distribuida y el tamaño era mayor. en términos generales […] el hotel esta muy bien, las habitaciones limpias el baño un poco pequeño pero bien y limpio. el personal del hotel excelente un trato de primera calidad de todo el personal, los desayunos estaban incluidos muy sabroso, limpio y muy bien atendidos los cuales los sirven dentro del hotel en la planta baja sin tener que ir al restaurante. también tiene un restaurante que esta dentro de la propiedad donde esta el hotel el cual tienes que caminar aprox. 500m para llegar a el y también cuenta con servicio a la habitación, la comida muy sabrosa y buenos precios. la habitación tiene cafetera,televisión. el hotel no esta cerca del centro, esta como a 20 minutos y cuesta promedio 2000 tenges cada viaje ya sea de ida o vuelta, pero vale la pena ya que es un buen hotel aunque no lo parezca. al hacer check out del hotel se presento un problema con la cuenta ya que al hacer cambio de habitación hubo un malentendido con la recepcionista la cual no aclaro algunos puntos cuando nos hicieron el cambio de habitación , pero todo quedo resuelto de la mejor manera para mi y el hotel. es un Hotel que recomiendo y regresaría sin ningún problema.
