"Ok Place But Needs Work (and Sound-Proofing from BLISS)!"

I'm trying to figure out how to start this review. I've reviewed quite a few places but not one where I was kept up until 4:00 AM by the noise from the neighboring nightclub. We arrived on a Friday afternoon, unpacked and went to the pool area to relax. That night we had a nice dinner at Thai Smile which is situated right on the property. Since we had gotten up early that morning we decided to go to bed at a reasonable hour -- about 9:30. We were startled awake shortly thereafter by extremely loud music and a DJ yelling whatever he was yelling. That continued until 4:00 in the morning. We realized the next day that the music, etc. was coming from BLISS, the nightclub that is also located on the property. BLISS is an outdoor nightclub and is open on Friday, Saturday (until 4AM) and Wednesday (I believe) until 2AM. Our room was in A Building and faced Maho Beach. The "resort" really needs a make-over. There are two buildings that are shells -- not completed -- but are, thankfully, on the other side of the facility so you don't have to see them unless you walk over that way. On the positive side, we had enough towels, the location was close to restaurants and a small grocery store across from the Royal Islander (we've stayed there twice before and thought it was nice). Our building had a working elevator but we didn't need it. There is working Wi-Fi but only near the pool and in the lobby. The Dream Bar was fun on Monday when they play drunken Bingo. Overall, we would not stay here again due to the proximity of BLISS.

We are already missing the wonderful island of Sint Maarten. We just returned home from a great week at the Caravanserai. While there are obvious challenges with the pending auction, what we saw reaffirmed our decision to keep coming back. The one thing year after year that we have avoided is the "dream bar" that so many on here seem to enjoy. We absolutely find the attitude, language and behavior of the bar staff abhorrent. My husband certainly does not appreciate being referred to as a "numb nuts". We have spend $30,000 to be an owner here and hope that when new owners come in that they will recognize this glaring issue. We have never been to any resort bar where the manager is constantly drunken into a stupor. We have just ignored the issue for the past few years but last week, we observed Marty walking through the parking lot in a drunken stupor and what can only be described as a physical altercation with a guest. Fortunately, the nice gentlemen that Marty was harassing was not intoxicated and simply brushed it off. We love the island and are looking forward to the resort becoming what we were promised when it was sold to us. Hopefully, next year when we return, we will see lots of positive changes.

We had not been back for two years as we were somewhat disappointed with the resort last time. It actually has improved. We had power and hot water every day without interruption. It was clean and well kept and there have been some improvements to the property. Still needs some TLC but we were pleasantly surprised. We are going back every year now. We were shocked at how crowded Maho beach has become with the people watching the planes. It was standing room only most of the time. Very unfortunate but we can watch the planes come in from the outlying pool at the resort. Marty is a hoot and has some great ideas for the place that I hope he can make happen. We still love this place.
"Timeshare is OK, The Dream Bar makes you want to go back"

We just returned from 10 days in St Martin and had one of our best trips ever. The trip wa sgreat because of the dream bar not he Caravanseria itself. A big part of the trip was the fun and people we met at the Dream Bar. I can say that Marty is one of the best owners of a tourist destination bar I have ever met. He makes everyone a friend and between him and Lori we always wanted to head back from whatever we were doing to be at the Dream bar for happy hour and stay there to after sunset. They mix up the fun with bar games and drunkin bingo on Mondays as well as a BBQ on Sunday nights. They have great happy hour and the view at sunset are spectacular. Marty also owns a great restaurant in Simpson bay called Marty's. Also worth the visit. I highly recommend both of Marty locations for a great time. Marty also has some great plans for the Dream bar at the Caravanseria should they manage to find a investor who will complete the construction at the timeshare.

I still love to stay here. I have a unit on the third floor and not having an elevator was never a problem!!! Marty & Lori at The Dream pool bar are simply wonderful! Hope everything is the same when I return next year. It was great to see some of same staff working the desk, housekeeping and reservation area. I really do not know why people complain so much about this resort... if has everything I want....... a clean place to sleep, walking distance to food, bars and cheap entertainment a few steps away at the Sunset Beach Bar.

We have been timeshare owners at Caravanserai for 12 years and have never traded through RCI. It is a wonderful site and convenient. However, it desperately needs new management. Although we were booked into our home units we had to move twice because of booking problems. The single elevator does not work and it did not last year. It is a long climb to the 4th floor for seniors. It is not being maintained-only one of four lamps worked, the bed linen would not stay on, the furniture is deteriorating, and the hot water is variable. The unfinished condos and the old hotel units are an eyesore. We talked to many guests who had booked through RCI and they were disappointed. It has great potential, but not with its current ownership and management+
"Second Time Around"

Spent a week here last year and loved it, so returned for two weeks this year. Of note, the elevator didn't work last year, didn't work this year, and it wouldn't surprise us if it wasn't working if we returned again next year. Until the resort is sold and/or under new management, problems will exist, but don't let this ruin your stay there. Yes, it was a pain having to walk up and down 5 flights of stairs, but we took it in stride and considered it our daily exercise. The staff were friendly and helpful, did help getting our bags to our unit and attended very quickly to a few minor issues we had. This is a great location to be in; if you are inclined to sit around the pool all day you have Marty's Dream Bar, where you can have a nice cold drink and get to meet some great people staying at the resort. You are within walking distance to Maho, Mullet Bay beach and the Sunset Bar, which can get a bit crazy with all the cruise ship passengers hanging out there when in port. Although close to the airport, we weren't bothered by noise; larger planes land during daylight hours and the airport closes at 11 p.m. so there are no overnight flights. If staying for any length of time we would recommend renting a car and go explore the island, both the Dutch and French side; there are wonderful beaches and restaurants on either side. Would definitely return here; great island, great friendly people and a lot of fun.

We were skeptical by all the bad reviews, however it is what you make of it and that is what my husband and I did, kept an open mind and really enjoyed ourselves. The hotel staff were very friendly and accommodating. We exchanged with RCI and we were placed in a studio on the 2nd floor overlooking the pool in the middle building. The elevators are out in that building and after mentioning to the staff my husband had a heart condition and couldn't walk that many steps or distance, they did a great job putting us in the perfect room. We were there 6 days and they came to our room each day and exchanged towels and emptied trash. They came 1 time during our stay and cleaned the room and changed the sheets. I left things out and they were trusting and never had a problem with anything missing. The view is spectacular from every balcony facing the ocean and pool, ahhhh, what a view to wake up to every morning is breathtaking. There are 2 pools, 1 at Marty's Dream bar with a swim up bar and a 2nd pool a few feet away that is more private, both pools and hot tub (adjoining to pool by Marty's) were very clean. Plenty of loungers for the very few people staying there, was only about 20% full. We saw a beautiful sunset every evening from the pool area and often would see the cruise ships and sailboats go by. We did not mind the noise from the planes since was only during the day, was actually exciting to have the planes fly over, didn't bother us at all. We would stay here again, this place has a lot of potential and hopeful that this place gets some attention to make it even better. The word is it has currently been taken over by the bank and is going on auction again for a 2nd time for hopefully a new buyer, can't see the bank taking a loss on this place and hopeful if no one buys it, the bank will stick some money in this place to get things moving in the right direction and get that darn elevator fixed that has been out for a very long time. I believe the elevator in the other building for the timeshare owners is working, it is just the middle building elevator that doesn't work. There is no restaurant on site but there are plenty to select from as soon as you step out the front door. You can walk everywhere from here in the near Maho area. Some of the restaurants we visited close by was Taco Macho (good food/drinks but service was bad), the Thai restaurant with sea side seating was very good, Sunset Bar is a must visit on Maho Beach. Mullet Bay down the road is a must see beach, loved Rosie's beach shack for lunch and drinks. We spent time in Maho and walked around the shops and ate at Cheri's Café which has a show at night while you dine, that was fun. There are like 17 casinos on this island, one right out the door at this resort called Dune's Casino (no one in there, very smokie but clean and I won $25 and left. We enjoyed the Royale Casino next to Cheri's Café, it was much busier at that one. Pros: Location, ocean view, clean and friendly staff Cons: Elevator out

Just came back from a wonderful vacation in St. Maarten. Stayed in room A401 with views to die for. Ocean front, 1 bedroom, large closet, double sink vanity and large shower, bathroom has a washer and dryer. Very large eating area with full kitchen. Market around the corner to get some much needed essentials, coffee, wine, beer etc. The owner Terry, was just awesome answering all my questions as this was my first time to rent from VRBO. The deck is very large and great to sit in the early mornings with a cup of coffee. Noise level? not bothered by it a bit and I say that because I read that some folks were not impressed with the planes or the fact that there was a nightclub around the corner. Our room has a white noise machine, set on low of the ocean and you don't hear a thing. Walking distance from airport, 10 min. walking to sunset bar and grill, 2 min. Mullet bay, not even 15 min. Taxi or bus to Philipsburg 30 min. Taxi $18, Bus $2. Marigot is 30 min. lots of great eats. Ferry over to Anguilla $43/RT. Where to eat, Sunset bar and grill has some great views, good pizza, hamburgers and salads. Great service even when it's busy. 3 Amigos, Mexican food, service slow but food was good. Cheri's was really good, seafood and steaks, burgers, fries etc. great location next door to the casino! For a nice piece of steak or tuna tartar go to Bamboo, sat at the bar and had Axel as our waiter/bartender. He was great! In the mood for dancing? Go to the Sky Beach! Casino Royale, where you lose your money if your not lucky. Fun! Let's not forget the reason I'm there. Sitting on maho beach and watching the planes fly over my head is just a rush!. The cruise ships come in on Tues and Wed so you have to get there early to reserve your chair. Lots of big rocks on that beach so watch when your walking. Looking for a quiet beach, walk over to Mullet Bay. Topless optional. 2 catamarans come In daily with folks that want to snorkel. White beaches, umbrellas to rent and a little hut to order some food if your hungry. Resort also has a swim up bar, happy hour 4-6. All in all, felt safe, relaxed and rested.
"Lots of Potential"

I booked a week at this resort through RCI, and later learned of their financial problems which in turn was causing maintenance problems, etc. Just prior to going, I learned that it was to be auctioned the week before our visit, and the reviews were not favorable at that time, e.g. no working elevator, little or no maintenance, unfriendly staff, etc. I was pleasantly surprised upon arrival to find a very clean resort with a very friendly staff. Unfortunately the elevator was not working and our room was on the 4th floor but they assisted with the luggage. After that we planned our day so that we weren't up and down steps several times each day. Our studio room was clean and nicely decorated with ample closet space, very small kitchenette with microwave and small frig. Had a problem with the in-room safe twice (my fault) and they promptly came to assist. Even though it is located next to the airport, the noise wasn't bad when in our room. Location is great for dining in Maho. Thai restaurant next door is very good. No beach but 2 nice pools with wonderful views. I would return to this resort. It didn't sell at auction so I hope they are able to resolve their financial problems and bring the resort to its full potential.
