Disappointed - Not as Good as its Rating
First visit to Rome and selected by our tour operator. The location was wonderful regarding proximity to sites and the area itself. For 2 of 4 evenings, there was insufficient hot water in the shower The internet worked the first day (spotty) and then did not work. The technician was trying to fix it. That is unacceptable. First night the tap water was brown in the bathroom - due supposedly to a "filter" The bed comfort was mediocre- mattress was not particularly good. With these issues, staff/mgmt should have offered some "allowance". The decor is lovely, the location is very very good.... but 4 star superior? Hmmmmmmm . . . .

Dirty bathrooms, bad pipes room smells like sewage
We had two rooms, in one of the rooms, there was defecate in the toilet when we arrived. Several hours later, the room was filled with the smell of raw sewage coming from the shower pipes, as the shower was nearly impossible to use due to the smell. We tried to air the room out, but the air conditioning was not really working. I was informed that my room could only be set to 17 deg Celsius and no other temperature.... what's the point of having an in room thermostat that only works at one temperature setting?! Even so, the air conditioning did not seem to be working as the room was actually quite warm, definitely not 17 deg Celsius. The other room, while it did not smell, had half used mini shampoo, body lotion bottles. The housekeeping is definitely not careful. Neither is the reception, who said that he couldn't come up to see what was wrong with the room because he was alone downstairs and no one else was working at the hotel. And he could not call maintenance. And a word of warning to those who are shorter than 5'7", there is no way to reach the bed covers, which are not on the bed, but rather on top of the closet.... yes you have to make the bed up yourself... there was no turn down service. And if you're not over 5'7" there is no way you can reach the bed cover. We ended up having to move furniture around and climb up on the furniture to be able to get our covers down. Again no help with any of the hotel staff, who refused.

Review of Berg Luxuery Hotel.
The Berg is one of those hotels that is extremely well-kept and appointed in a minimalist style, but functionally not welcoming at all. Some examples (based on the junior suite room): very small work space, no coffee maker in the room, uncomfortable bed, no space in the (small) minibar for customer use, no ice machines, interesting multi-function shower but without a resting ledge so not that enjoyable, etc. The junior suite, while a touch larger than a standard room) was very sterile in it's decor and not welcoming at all. The full suites on the top floor (that I moved to for the last two days of my trip) were much the same, but had a large rooftop terrace with enough of a view that it somewhat made up for the previous room. The hotel had no AC at all, so the junior suites, which had full windows but had zero airflow, were extremely hot. I twice asked the front desk for some kind of fan but was told nothing was available. All in all, not terrible but not that enjoyable either, especially for the money being charged. The staff was very friendly and helpful (except for having no fans) with recommendations and directions for the area. The hotels is in a great area, just blocks from the Spanish Steps. I would not return to this hotel. If you're going to stay there, I suggest either shelling out the money for a full suite, or at least require a standard room that faces the front of the building.
