"If you like Mariachis, you'll love this hotel!"
This is a great value for the money. The hotel is located in the heart of the Mariachis. Lots of fun outside, I suggest eating in the hotel though. Property is newer and very well kept, I felt very safe inside. The neighborhood is ok, just say no to panhandlers, but felt safe especially with police outside. I would highly recommend and the price was […] right! If you don't like noise, ask to stay in a non balcony room and they will accommodate. The breakfast was decent as well. The rooms are clean and the lady who cleans it does an amazing job. There are lots of noise from the bars next door so we were up most nights until 4 to 5AM. "Great hotel, but not the best area."
Hotel was great. Clean rooms, friendly staff. No complaints for the price at all. The neighborhood itself was not as nice. I love Mexico City but next time I go I would choose a hotel that is not in the city center. It's improving but there is still a long way for it to go. The Plaza Garibaldi Hotel was a good base from which to explore Mexico City. It was immediately next to the core of the historical center. For all else, it was exactly between two Metro stations. Except for getting from/to the bus Central Norte, we rarely used a taxi. Oh, if you like mariachis, there isn't anywhere else to stay. The room was clean, […] comfortable, well-stocked and serviced, and everything worked. Having an in-room safe freed us from having to carry our valuables. We paid more than we had budgeted, but the hotel did deliver. It's worth consideration. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We stayed there only for one day but we were quite impressed by everything that hotel provided. Nice and clean room with good customer service with English speaking. Breakfast was nice and lots of fruits were provided. Location is very close to the city center and metro station. The best...Genuine Hotels.com guest review
My wife and I decided to give this hotel a try after reading the positive reviews, location (Plaza Garibaldi) and close proximity to the Zocalo and other landmarks. Hotel Plaza Garibaldi did not disappoint. Check in was uneventful by a friendly and accommodating staff. They asked us if we preferred a quiet room or noisy room due to the numerous music/noise […] producing factors - mariachis playing at the square and adjoining clubs and bars. We chose a fourth floor room overlooking Plaza Garibaldi. The room was clean, spacious and had a balcony overlooking the square. Once you close the glass door and the secondary wooden panels, 95% of the noise was cancelled. This allowed us to partake in the music-filled atmosphere or enjoy the privacy and quiet of our room when we chose. Plaza Garibaldi is home to various clubs, bars and restaurants. Mariachis or other types of groups can be easily hired for as low as $50 pesos per song (initial asking price was $100 pesos). Be careful with being lured into one of the nearby clubs, they promise no cover charge and with a promise to only charge your consumption. In fact there are hidden fees. A very pleasant surprise was nearby Mercado San Camilito (within Plaza Garibaldi). There you will find authentic Mexican food at extremely cheap prices. Try the birria - it is delicious. Lastly, my only recommendation to the hotel is that they consider replacing their mattresses with softer ones. Highly recommend Hotel Plaza Garibaldi. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Just in the middle of the Plaza Garibaldi.....Could not be more Mexican! Great hotel location walking distance to metro, Bellas Artes, eateries and shops, rooms clean and updated, staff friendly and accommodating.....sounds and vibration from the nightly music band could be heard in the rooms' wall next to the bar. Enjoyed our 3 nights stay ..... Though band vibrations from the bar next door were felt and music loud till early morning, the hotel was great! The staff were all friendly and accommodating. "A Gem Off the Beaten Path"
Had a very comfortable stay in thus hotel. The room was clean and comfortable; the restaurant outstanding. The staff was accommodating and helpful, definitely service oriented. The hotel was priced well until the week-end, when rates more than doubled. The location is on an historic plaza, which fills each evening with Mariachis. There are many and […] varied restaurants close-by. Entry to the hotel is a bit confusing. You enter through a huge garage or haul your luggage about a block from the street. While the hotel is a healthy walk from the Centro Historico, I still recommend the hotel and its staff. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel in an interesting location"
Overall the hotel is ok, but if you are a guest who needs internet/wifi service, this is not the hotel for you. The wifi is extremely slow and the internet connection just dies at anytime. All the staff were helpful and accommodating. When I informed the front desk that the toilet in my room doesn't flush, they immediately offered to move me to another […] room, which I agreed. The location, I think is not family oriented, but since I traveled alone, it did not bother me. The Plaza Garibaldi came alive at night, especially Friday and Friday, with Garibaldi singers all over the place. The location is not good but it is walking distance to Zocalo, so that compensates what is lacking in location. The price is great and it comes with free breakfast. The heater in my room didn't work but since I already hsd complained about my toilet, I did not bother to say anything. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

I booked this hotel on the advice of other reviews on the hotels.com website, and was not disappointed. It is located on a street that has a pedestrian mall, no cars allowed! The hotel is VERY well maintained, the room was spacious and spotless; as you leave the hotel, turn left and explore this interesting neighborhood. "Great hotel in an interesting cultural area"
This hotel is definitely one of my favourites in Mexico City-fantastic value, with a good restaurant onsite, welcoming and pleasant staff, exceptionally well maintained and recently completely modernised. Altho no coffee/tea making facilities in the rooms which I think a 4* Hotel really should have, the rooms are excellent with outstanding bathrooms […] & complimentary toiletries, a large bottle of drinking water fresh every day, quality linen and towls and beautifully designed & lit rooms. Rooms except those over looking Plaza Garibaldi have new frosted internal facing windows, all (except the front rooms with balconies) windows open onto quiet internal spaces. One appreciates the tightly sealing windows and excellent airconditioning in each room as the Plaza at night becomes the cultural focus for bands of Mariachis all playing at once touting for business amongst citizens looking for a Mariachi band to hire. If you are a light sleeper ask for a room towards the back of the hotel - the bars, Mariachis & famous music restaurants on the square play most of the night! The square has some excellent restaurants - don't miss the small excellent Mexican cocinas & the Mercado of eating places of varying quality but undeniable charm! The Plaza is a cultural heritage refurbished some years ago (with the State run Music School for Mariachis) but the surrounding area is neglected and can be problematic at night but I had no problems on the short walk to/from the Historic Centre. "wonderful staff and fun area but scary after hours"
The hotel is absolutely wonderful with great staff and the owner was very pleasant. The room is great (a little noisy at night somedays) The breakfast was fantastic and full of choices (safe and clean food) not included though. The restaurant staff are superb! Everyone working in the hotel was in good mood and helpful. The parking staff was extremely […] pleasant and helpful.I had no knowledge of a parking garage when I arrived from the airport, but the hotel has one and it is easy to access. You need to know where it is to unload luggage. The area is fun with lots of restaurants and night life and really well guarded but you must be careful at night because there are many "loucos" walking drunk or drugged at late hours around the area. Definitively stay within the plaza and do not walk around too much after 11pm. During the day it is safe to walk everywhere and the location is perfect to visit Zocolo ( nice restaurant overlooking the Catedral called Puro Corazon) and other touristic attractions that are walking distance from the hotel. It is also a short and cheap trip from the airport 200 pesos !). The pyramids in Teotichuacan (about 1,5hrs away driving) are fantastic! Ate at Techinanco Restaurant- excellent. Loved the local community of theater in San Rafael and ate at the family (traditional) restaurant Overall the trip was great and I totally recommend this hotel! "Very good and well situated hotel"
Everything was clean, the staff was really nice and helped us a lot with the airport shuttle service, the touristic tour and the luggage that we let during the whole day there. I had an awesome time, this hotel is perfectly located in the historic downtown, so that all the touristy attractions can be reached walking. 5-minute walk from the Palacio Bellas Artes, Correos, Torre Latina, Calle Madero, 15-minute walk from the Zócalo... "A clean well-lighted place"
The Plaza Garibaldi neighbourhood is not for everyone. But if you want to get a flavour of Mexico City as it is experienced by millions of inhabitants -- and be within a short walk of the historic centre -- the Hotel Plaza Garibaldi is a safe, clean, hospitable place from where you can set off on your adventures. The Plaza is the rendezvous point of […] the city's mariachi community, and that in itself makes this a fascinating place to stay. The rooms are quiet and, if you are so inclined, can shut out the sound of the trumpet music that continues through all hours of the night. The management and staff are most hospitable and helpful. "5 Days at the Hotel Plaza Garibaldi"
We enjoyed our stay very much. The facility has been renovated up to modern standards recently and is very fresh and clean. Staff were all very attentive and pleased to offer assistance in any way. I use a CPAP machine for sleeping and needed an extension cord to plug in on my side of the bed. The hotel maintenance man found one and delivered it 5 minutes […] after our request at the front desk. The Mariachi scene in the Plaza Garibaldi itself is fun to watch and we never felt uneasy about our personal safety. The city has gone to a lot of trouble to maintain the plaza clean and safe. We watched hundreds of families of all ages enjoying the area. We did find however that restaurant options were too limited for our taste in the immediate area. Quiet secluded dining is not really an option on the plaza. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not a bad choice..."
For the cost, this was a good choice for a centrally located hotel to use as a base for seeing the sights of Mexico City. My room was comfortable, and it was quiet. The internet worked well. The breakfast was only "OK" (but what do expect for free?). The Zocalo centro area was only a short 5 min walk. I did not do much in this area at night (I suspect […] it's a bit sketchy). The front desk staff wasn't very helpful - poor english, and couldn't provide me with change, etc. My only real significant complaint is that for 2 of the 4 days of my stay, there was no hot water for my shower in the morning. Other than that problem, I was satisfied with my choice of this hotel. Especially for the reasonable price. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

The front desk staff were very welcoming. They arranged an early morning taxi to take me to the airport. The hotel room was clean and comfortable. "Nice hotel, but the location is scary"
I picked this hotel randomly without careful checking up its location - I did not know the city at all. Even if I had looked up the location, I still would not have had any idea about where I was going to. A cab driver took me to the hotel through the most terrifying route imaginable, I was literally very scared on a way about what kind of hotel I would […] end up with. I was freaking out.. What I saw from the car was the dirtiest streets of limitless street markets, beggars, homeless people and stuff like that. When I got to the hotel from the back. Inside it looked comfortable and that calmed me down. Apparently (as I was told by a reception girl) cab drivers choose purposefully the worst and dirtiest route to the hotel to scare the passengers (tourists), so that they (the tourists) would freak out and refuse to be taken to the hotel in anticipation of even worse picture of the hotel. they would instead ask a driver to take them to another hotel looking more comfortable and less scary.. The cabbie would take a tourist to another hotel, and that hotel would tip a cabbie for bringing more customers to their hotel!! That is how the local "business" works. Apart from the plaza in front the hotel with a local market (looked nice and very authentic), I had my dinner there, there is nothing to walk around or see, so that is a minus. I felt very uncomfortable to go far away from the hotel, so I ate my dinner and returned to my room. Inside the hotel looked clean. My room was OK Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Garibaldi Hotel, Mexico City"
It is a 3 to 3.5 star hotel, clean, beds were a bit soft, no tea or coffee facilities in the room, but there was a good restaurant downstairs where the included breakfast was served and not too pricey when it came to meals. Staff were helpful but their English is limited, but hey what can you expect it's a Spanish speaking country. The hotel is on Garibaldi […] Plaza, where the Mariachi play on a daily basis. The music goes to about 1 am, but it's not offensive, you can just hear it. If it would bother you, I suggest you take a set of earplugs for sleeping. We did have altitude sickness in Mexico City. It is 7400 feet above sea level and we didn't realize that. Mine went after 4 days but my partner had it the whole 8 days we were there. The Diamox tablets didn't help him as he should have started taking them 2 days before we arrived there. We were told Garibaldi Plaza area was not a very safe place, but we didn't see any evidence of this, there was a good police presence there all the time, we always felt safe. We walked most everywhere during the day and were never fearful. Be careful of the taxi drivers though, they give you a price and when you get to the other end, they say the price was for one person and double it for the second person. We did get caught only once. All in all the Garibaldi Hotel was exactly what you pay for in a 3 to 3.5 star hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
