This is the second time I travel to Mexico City and stay at this location. The location is great. You have access to various "fondas" where you'll find a variety of authentic Mexican food; from breakfast to dinner. The hotel rooms are clean and air conditioning is a plus. Hotel staff is friendly and welcoming.

"Great Affordable Hotel"
This is a nice, affordable hotel in a bit of a bad neighborhood. It's right on the Plaza Garibaldi which is the center of Mariachi bands in the city. This means that there are usually a lot of people and some cops usually around at night, which means two things: it can be loud if you're room faces the square and the immediate area is pretty safe. We would walk to either the nearest metro station (~5 minutes) or to the central tourist area (~10 minutes). We usually took a cab back at night to avoid walking around the surrounding area. The room we had was small, with just a bed and a desk. That was fine for us, as we came to Mexico City to see the city, not the hotel. The room and the hotel were nicely decorated with modern accents. They did an excellent job cleaning the room every day. Breakfast was pretty simple with several types of fruit, chilequiles, some meat, some sweet breads, toast, and cereal. We ate it most days because it was free. You can also order breakfast or any other meal at their restaurant. The wifi didn't work very well anywhere. We were not really able to get a signal in our room. It worked best in the lobby, but even there it was slow.

"great hotel inside Mariachi Plaza and near centro."
this is a neat, clean, and amazing hotel located inside the Mariachi plaza. It is near several museums within walking distance. At night you may enjoy traditional Mexico Mariachi musics until 2 or 3 am in morning if you like that kind of music. It is also next to the classical Mexican food court with great inexpensive meals. There are always police patrol around the area and quite safe to walk at night. Hotel staffs are friendly with free breakfast which can satisfied our need for the morning before doing any city tours.

"If you like Mariachis, you'll love this hotel!"
This is a great value for the money. The hotel is located in the heart of the Mariachis. Lots of fun outside, I suggest eating in the hotel though. Property is newer and very well kept, I felt very safe inside. The neighborhood is ok, just say no to panhandlers, but felt safe especially with police outside. I would highly recommend and the price was right! If you don't like noise, ask to stay in a non balcony room and they will accommodate. The breakfast was decent as well.

The rooms are clean and the lady who cleans it does an amazing job. There are lots of noise from the bars next door so we were up most nights until 4 to 5AM. They offered us another room but it had no view so I chose the room with the view and noise. The breakfast needs lots of improvement. We were there 7 mornings and did not have any items in their breakfast buffet. Overall, If you want to travel cheap this hotel is greatly priced.

"Great hotel, but not the best area."
Hotel was great. Clean rooms, friendly staff. No complaints for the price at all. The neighborhood itself was not as nice. I love Mexico City but next time I go I would choose a hotel that is not in the city center. It's improving but there is still a long way for it to go. The Roma, the Rosa, the Polanco and the Colonia areas were much prettier, and safer in the evenings.

"Friendly, comfortable hotel"
Disclaimer first: this hotel is located in the plaza known for the mariachi bands that come to play every night. The up side of this is that there are plenty of people around, including law enforcement, so it feels pretty safe, even late at night. And the mariachis are fun. The downside (really just a matter of preference) is that you can hear the bands from most any part of the hotel and they stay out late. This probably isn't a good fit for light sleepers, but we didn't have a problem with it. Noise aside, I can't say enough good things about this hotel. It isn't a luxury resort, but it is modern, extremely clean and very conveniently located. The staff, including the servers in the hotel restaurant were gracious, helpful and friendly. They were patient with our bad spanish, and a most spoke at least a little english, so we didn't ever have problems communicating. The free breakfast was great and the coffee was excellent. Beds were comfortable with good pillows. There are a number of good restaurants in the plaza, though you'll want to sit inside if you don't want to be hassled by the mariachi bands at dinner (it can be a fun experience to sit outside and pay one of the bands to play for you, but you should know what you are getting yourself into). There is also a convenience store right across the street and a nice bakery around the corner. The metro is only a couple blocks away and downtown (the Zocalo, Bellas Artes) is within easy walking distance.

Our room was large with private bath. Sheets and towels were changed daily. Breakfast was good, but could have used some variety. This hotel is walking distance to the center of Old Town and the Metro. We could not hear any outside noise. The staff at the front desk were cheerful and helpful. We felt safe as there were many police in the area.

"visiting Mexico City"
The Plaza Garibaldi Hotel was a good base from which to explore Mexico City. It was immediately next to the core of the historical center. For all else, it was exactly between two Metro stations. Except for getting from/to the bus Central Norte, we rarely used a taxi. Oh, if you like mariachis, there isn't anywhere else to stay. The room was clean, comfortable, well-stocked and serviced, and everything worked. Having an in-room safe freed us from having to carry our valuables. We paid more than we had budgeted, but the hotel did deliver. It's worth consideration.

"Great hotel in the center of mariachi music"
The hotel is very comfortable and in the middle of Plaza Garibaldi. You are safe to walk to the center of Mexico City's mariachi scene. There are a couple of markets close by with traditional food. The breakfast that is included is generous, but because so many foreigners complain about chile, spicy food, the buffet dishes are without much flavor. The menu items, however, are well executed albeit toned a little less down for the foreign palate. The staff are kind and the rooms are comfortable.

"Pleasantly Surprised!"
My wife and I decided to give this hotel a try after reading the positive reviews, location (Plaza Garibaldi) and close proximity to the Zocalo and other landmarks. Hotel Plaza Garibaldi did not disappoint. Check in was uneventful by a friendly and accommodating staff. They asked us if we preferred a quiet room or noisy room due to the numerous music/noise producing factors - mariachis playing at the square and adjoining clubs and bars. We chose a fourth floor room overlooking Plaza Garibaldi. The room was clean, spacious and had a balcony overlooking the square. Once you close the glass door and the secondary wooden panels, 95% of the noise was cancelled. This allowed us to partake in the music-filled atmosphere or enjoy the privacy and quiet of our room when we chose. Plaza Garibaldi is home to various clubs, bars and restaurants. Mariachis or other types of groups can be easily hired for as low as $50 pesos per song (initial asking price was $100 pesos). Be careful with being lured into one of the nearby clubs, they promise no cover charge and with a promise to only charge your consumption. In fact there are hidden fees. A very pleasant surprise was nearby Mercado San Camilito (within Plaza Garibaldi). There you will find authentic Mexican food at extremely cheap prices. Try the birria - it is delicious. Lastly, my only recommendation to the hotel is that they consider replacing their mattresses with softer ones. Highly recommend Hotel Plaza Garibaldi.

"Fantastic location!"
Just in the middle of the Plaza Garibaldi.....Could not be more Mexican! We have enjoyed the evenings there, sitting on one of the many small terraces, having a drink, and just watching/listening to the Mariachis in their different Mexican suits, big hats, big variety of instruments and playing together for whoever wants one of their songs. Very lively!!

"A Gem Off the Beaten Path"
Had a very comfortable stay in thus hotel. The room was clean and comfortable; the restaurant outstanding. The staff was accommodating and helpful, definitely service oriented. The hotel was priced well until the week-end, when rates more than doubled. The location is on an historic plaza, which fills each evening with Mariachis. There are many and varied restaurants close-by. Entry to the hotel is a bit confusing. You enter through a huge garage or haul your luggage about a block from the street. While the hotel is a healthy walk from the Centro Historico, I still recommend the hotel and its staff.

"Nice hotel in an interesting location"
Overall the hotel is ok, but if you are a guest who needs internet/wifi service, this is not the hotel for you. The wifi is extremely slow and the internet connection just dies at anytime. All the staff were helpful and accommodating. When I informed the front desk that the toilet in my room doesn't flush, they immediately offered to move me to another room, which I agreed. The location, I think is not family oriented, but since I traveled alone, it did not bother me. The Plaza Garibaldi came alive at night, especially Friday and Friday, with Garibaldi singers all over the place. The location is not good but it is walking distance to Zocalo, so that compensates what is lacking in location. The price is great and it comes with free breakfast. The heater in my room didn't work but since I already hsd complained about my toilet, I did not bother to say anything.

Great hotel in the lively Plaza Garibaldi. Lovely comfortable and clean room, helpful reception staff. Easy walking distance to the main sights and the metro station. "Great Value"
I booked this hotel on the advice of other reviews on the hotels.com website, and was not disappointed. It is located on a street that has a pedestrian mall, no cars allowed! The hotel is VERY well maintained, the room was spacious and spotless; as you leave the hotel, turn left and explore this interesting neighborhood. I was there on a Friday night, and there were groups of Mariachi playing in the streets as well as in restaurants, of which there are a copious amount of. For some authentic Mexican Cuisine, there is an extremely large building just 5 minutes away that houses a tremendous food court with all kinds of "goodies" to sample. The personnel at the front desk are extremely helpful...a basic knowledge of Spanish is more than helpful.

"Great hotel in an interesting cultural area"
This hotel is definitely one of my favourites in Mexico City-fantastic value, with a good restaurant onsite, welcoming and pleasant staff, exceptionally well maintained and recently completely modernised. Altho no coffee/tea making facilities in the rooms which I think a 4* Hotel really should have, the rooms are excellent with outstanding bathrooms & complimentary toiletries, a large bottle of drinking water fresh every day, quality linen and towls and beautifully designed & lit rooms. Rooms except those over looking Plaza Garibaldi have new frosted internal facing windows, all (except the front rooms with balconies) windows open onto quiet internal spaces. One appreciates the tightly sealing windows and excellent airconditioning in each room as the Plaza at night becomes the cultural focus for bands of Mariachis all playing at once touting for business amongst citizens looking for a Mariachi band to hire. If you are a light sleeper ask for a room towards the back of the hotel - the bars, Mariachis & famous music restaurants on the square play most of the night! The square has some excellent restaurants - don't miss the small excellent Mexican cocinas & the Mercado of eating places of varying quality but undeniable charm! The Plaza is a cultural heritage refurbished some years ago (with the State run Music School for Mariachis) but the surrounding area is neglected and can be problematic at night but I had no problems on the short walk to/from the Historic Centre.
