Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Genuine Expedia guest review
Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Quite sad that I got to spend only one night here (my last night in Tokyo) in this wonderful hostel. The location is really good...around 2mins walk from Asakusa Station Metro Ginza line. I booked through Hostelworld and received an email shortly after that with directions to the hostel. The directions were easy to follow, which i really appreciated. A minute's walk away (and so conveniently on the way to the metro) is Tokyo's most popular temple -- Sensoji. Lots of food options around!! There's also a 24-hour supermarket nearby :D The staff will gladly give recommendations and they give you a map of the area so it's easier for you. Feel free to ask the staff anything regarding your concerns... food, drinks, sightseeing, daytrips --- they are very helpful and can speak english well. I went on a daytrip to Nikko and the next day, the staff on duty knew about it and asked how it went. They let you store your luggage for free if you need to do so. Oh, one big plus for me was that they had an elevator!!! it was a relief for my arms after having lugged my heavy luggage around the city. Their common room had a vendo machine for drinks. Free coffee and tea's provided. Computer for use and free wifi. Didn't have any wifi problems throughout my stay. There were lots of pamphlets/leaflets/printed-out tips for travellers -- staff's favorites for restos around Asakusa, daytrip recommendations, etc. It was fun browsing through those. There's also a (clean) toilet inside the common area, which I used twice to freshen up (before I could check-in and after checking out). I stayed in a 4-bed dormitory on the 3rd floor. The room was quite spacious, for Tokyo standards. It had its own toilet and bath (separate cubicles for each). The room, bath, and toilet were all clean. Bath was a bit small but then that's what you'd expect in Japan. It wasn't an issue for me. I had a really good sleep that night. They request that u keep the temp in the room from 24-27, which was perfect. Linens and sheets were provided---they were really comfortable! Each bed had its own personal locker on one corner of the room, as well as a wall socket and personal light. There were also hangers provided--nice touch. After 9 (or is it 10pm), the front door will be locked so you're to use the side door to enter the hostel. You'll be provided a pin code for this. It's a really good lodging option especially for first-timers. It's not near Shibuya, Shinjuku etc. Around 30mins train but this not having been my first time in Tokyo, it was refreshing to experience an "older" Tokyo this time around. Highly recommended!!! Oh, and there's a direct train from the station to Haneda airport!
"Great location, clean rooms, Fantastic staff"

Khaosan Tokyo Kabuki is a wonderful guest hose in the Asakusa area of Tokyo. The location is perfect. Right in the car free back streets of of Asakusa. It's wonderful to wander the streets and shop the unique store located there. There are lots of restaurants around and a supermarket nearby. Its location is ideal for visiting the Sensoji temple located nearby. It is also located near the Asakusa subway making getting anywhere in Tokyo a breeze. The hostel is well maintained and the staff work hard at keeping it really clean. Space is at a premium in Tokyo but I never felt cramped there. The room was separated from the ensuite washroom/shower/toilet and you could close the door so roommates coming or going late could clean up without waking up the room. The best part of staying at Kabuki is the staff. Pleasant, helpful, engaging. They were a great knowledge source for making plans, getting around Tokyo and quickly answered any questions asked. In the evening the night staff socialized with the guest as they did there work, making the common areas comfortable and inviting. I loved everything about Tokyo Kabuki and would gladly recommend them to any traveler looking to stay in Tokyo.

The directions to the hostel were pretty easy to follow, and I was amazed at how accessible it was when I got there. It's on a fairly quiet street too, so we had no issues getting a good night sleep. The staff were friendly and helpful, and also allowed us to leave some of our luggage there at no extra charge when we went away to Nikko for a couple of days (we came back to stay after, though). The room we had was decent in size and had its own en-suite toilet and shower. Shampoo and soap were provided, the shower's water pressure was good, and you could adjust the water temperature quite finely. There's plenty of good, cheap food in the neighbourhood, as well as supermarkets and convenience stores. I'd definitely stay here again!

The hostel locates nearby the famous temple in Tokyo, Sensō-ji (浅草寺) and is only less than 5 minutes far by foot from the subway station. You can find various type of delicious Japanese food in the area, so don't worry about the meals. And the most important--the staff members here are friendly and amiable!
"Helpful and Friendly Staff"

It is hard to find, but once you're there you realize the location is great! Asakusa it's a place with temples, shopping, street food and a little bit of a nightlife, plus you have two main metro lines close by (Ginza and Asakusa). The hostel is clean and well organized. The best part is the staff. They are very friendly and helpful. They can explain you the confusing metro map of Tokyo, give you some tips on restaurants, etc. You don't need to worry about towels or converters, you can buy/rent them at the front desk, and you can also borrow an umbrella for the day. I loved Asakusa and Khaosan was a great experience that I'd repeat!
"First time experience at hostel stay..."

This hostel became my first choice in my first solo travel attempt last year since the room rate was really good; considering it is Tokyo we are talking about. Besides, the reviews of this hostel were mostly excellent adding to my desire to give it a try. I don't usually choose a hostel stay when I travel but I wanted to give this one a try because of the rate. After two nights stay, I decided to move out from the hostel and spent the remaining five nights in a ryokan close by. I guess I don't have the extra tolerance which is very much needed if you choose a hostel stay (especially when you are sharing with strangers). The room that I was put into had two double beds with a private bathroom. Everything was clean and the staff were nice, friendly and helpful with their assistance. However, the room that I booked was a mixed bedroom (boys and girls mixed) which I am not used to. When I made my booking via agoda, the words 'mixed room' was misinterpreted as sharing with similar gender. Besides that, there are other inconveniences such as the arrival of other guests at wee hours and the tossing and turning of the other person on the upper bed made me lose my sleep. I presume it was not my lucky day that day as I was put into the same room with a guest who decided to unplug the heater in the middle of the night on a cold December winter because it was inconvenient for him. Therefore I decided to move out after my second night at the hostel. Sadly, I could not get a refund as I made my booking and full payment through agoda with no refund policy. My advice to future guests is to make your booking via the hostel official website or hostel.com just in case you decided not liking it. On the contrary, this hostel is actually great considering its accessibility to various metros and the great staff who would go all the way with their assistance. Free and fast wi-fi service is available to hostel guests and eateries (mostly Japanese) are available everywhere. The hostel lounge is a great place to mingle with other guests from around the world and the other facilities provided are also very good. Asakusa Nakamise Shopping Street which is close to it is heaven for souvenirs shopping and there are claims that this is the place where the souvenirs are reasonably priced. I would choose this hostel again if I am sharing a room with my friends or family. For personal comfort, I would definitely choose the private room(s).

Duration of stay: 2 nights (14/16 August) Booking process and check-in/check-out: hostelworld linked through the Khaosan's own website, paid a small deposit Transport arrival/departure: arrived from Tokyo Disney by bus to Tokyo Skytree and then took the Skytree line to Asakusa. Departure from the Toei Station to Haneda Airport (direct) Room: a Deluxe 3 Bed Private Ensuite, Japanese style room. Clean. Good wifi. Used the washer/dryer on the top floor. Very nice staff. Offered us umbrella's for our walk to the station at departure.
"What's not to like? Excellent place to stay!"

This was an excellent hostel and well worth staying in for a few days. Its very accessible as we could take a direct train from Haneda Airport to Asakusa. The location is absolutely perfect, a short walk away from the famous Senso-ji temple and the train station. It's easy to find, near many restaurants and a joy to stay at. The two of us spend about 4 days in a two bunkbed room. The room and ensuite bathroom was clean and well-maintained. The bathroom was cleaned every day by volunteering staff. The bed, blankets, pillows also were quite clean and comfortable. The staff at the hostel was also extremely friendly and helpful with giving tips and ideas on places to visit. They helped us with our travel throughout Tokyo. The best thing about this hostel besides the location, price, and cleanliness is the shared common space. It's a great hangout spot to meet other people from all over the world, or just to enjoy a cup of coffee before exploring the city. I would highly recommend this hostel.
