"Mediocre place to stay"
We stayed for 5 days in August 2013 and found it overall disappointing and this is why: 1) When we arrived around 3pm on a weekday no one was there to welcome us despite their website and room brochure stating that there'd be someone from 7am to 7pm. 2) The apartment itself was old and not well-maintained. 3) Bedsheets were old and smelly. I don't […] mind me a little 70s style but then they should offer their apartments (by no means villas, by the way!) for 70s prices. I certainly do mind old bedsheets and lacking room cleanliness (spiderwebs, sticky old couches, dirty corners). 4) In contrast to what they had claimed on the net, no internet was available in the room. TV and DVD player were old and no cable TV available (not that I care much but it had been advertised online). All in all, it wasn't a great place to stay. We had a really nice time in Manuel Antonio despite the place. To be fair, the view from the terrace was nice and the breakfast at the bar wasn't bad. I'd recommend to stay elsewhere but if there's no other room available during the high season you might as well stay at Ylang Ylang. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"A great value"
Beautiful view of the ocean with a private hammock. Walking distance to beach, grocery store, and many bars and restaurants. The sign for the place is kinda small but the villas are connected to Salsipuedes tapas bar. We loved Salsipuedes, especially Marcela and the friendly staff who made us feel very welcome.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great Place to Stay in Manuel Antonio!"
Studio 1 I had a great experience! It was my first time in Costa Rica, and I could not have picked a better place to stay. I went on my vacation in March 2013. Went with girlfriend but great for family too.The views at Ylang Ylang are amazing. You over look the pacific, and can even take in the views from your porch laying on a hammock. There is tons […] of life all around you, animals, birds, and plants. I even got to see toucans right on the property. Staff are all good. One of the best things about the villas is the AC. It was nice to come back after a long day in the sun and have a room with AC. There is also a restaurant right above the villas. They have good food at a good price. The road from quepos to manuel antonio has the most to do on it, and Ylang Ylang is in the perfect location on the road.It is within walking distance to great restaurants, and even a small supermarket. From the hotel you can walk to one beach (Playa Escondida). The walk to the beach is not very long, but it is up hill on the way back. This beach is less crowed compared to the main beach, however the main beach is better for swimming. To get to the main beach your best option is to hop on a bus. Busses run every 15min, and are cheap. One activity I really recommend is the night hike at "Fincas Naturales Wildlife Refuge". This is a great activity. The staff is very nice, and you learn a lot. Also this is a short (3-5min) walk from Ylang Ylang. Walk towards the beach and it will be on your left. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Room was filthy, toilet wouldn't flush, shower wouldn't drain, floors and surfaces dirty, mis-matched thin torn sheets, one pillowcase had cartoons on it, tablecloth on table looked like someone had just eaten on it leaving crumbs, open shelf closet covered in spider webs, had to go to store and buy cleaning products first night. Curtain hanging over […] sink was un-hemmed and raveling out, not long enough to cover the window. Couldn't shut front curtains, had to pull them together from the middle and clip with a hair clip. Table on balcony was dirty, with a dirty astray on it. After the third night, we couldn't take it. So we went down the street and checked in to a 5 star Resort & Spa for the rest of our 25th anniversary. Lost lots of money on this little adventure. The sign out front posted a much lower rate than what we paid, not low enough for condition of the room. Our safe broke and they had to get someone to hammer it open to get our stuff out. On the up side, bed was comfortable, air conditioning worked, very good restaurant in front. Awesome views. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

What a treat! I actually wanted to give it a 4+. Our villa at Ylang Ylang was beautiful. Everything is super clean. We watched the sun go down over the Pacific every evening on our deck. We could wash off the dirt & salt of the beach in the outdoor shower. Every appliance worked well. The ATM, bus stop, & yogurt ice cream cones were across the street. Manuel Antonio Park is a 10 minute, 50 cent ride as is Quepos. There is a little food market a block away & a quiet public beach about 2 km. A great restaurant, Selsipuedes, is right behind your villa & has wonderful food plus free WiFi. Their breakfasts are under $5. Alex is the manager & couldn't have provided more help. He scheduled all our trips. My only complaint was the thin walls of the villa.
"Better options in the area"

We had a pretty poor experience staying here. If you're traveling on a budget I'd recommend staying somewhere else. There are plenty of better options around. Our room was dirty and the towels were ripped and stained. Pretty gross. It was hard to find the place since their phone number doesn't work and there's no sign in front of the place. It's actually behind Salsipuedes restaurant, which I believe is owned by the same person. The only redeeming thing about the place was the nice view, but since you're in Manuel Antonio you can find that in most places. There were large spiders in the room. The kitchen is supposed to be fully equipped and they don't provide free breakfast for guests for that reason. However, there was no dish soap, sponge or dish towel in our kitchen. The refrigerator was unplugged when we got there and the coffee maker was missing the lid. The place wouldn't be so bad if they actually cared.
"A place to stay."

The place had a good vibe but it was dirty, as in like the inside of the microwave had spiderwebs, the inside of the fridge was dirty, etc, etc. It seems like the administration does not make any effort to make it better. The outside facilities are pretty nice and the restaurant on the premises looks pretty nice too, we did not eat here. I would not stay here again unless it was clean.
"Very nice, cozy little Villas with great ocean view!"

The best things about our Villa were the gorgeous ocean view, the seclusion (each Villa has its own walkway and is largely on its own), the air conditioning, which worked very well, and the great price. With the view and seclusion, it is very nice to be able to sit out on the balcony and have breakfast on the little table with the beautiful morning view. It has a more or less full kitchen (didn't have a microwave). The supervisor is very helpful with the room and in helping you arrange other plans such as transportation, adventure tours in the area. The location of the villas is great, in the middle of Manuel Antonio, for quick trips to restaurants, the beach, and downtown Quepos. I would give it 5 stars if not for a few pretty minor things. The sheets and pillows were old and should be replaced. It could be a little cleaner, although I thought that it was generally clean. The wi-fi does not work in the villa itself, but if you walk up to the very close restaurant, it works great. There is not a 24-7 office/reception, and if you get there after hours, there is confusion about your room. None of these things ruined my stay, and I would return.

Loved the hammock while drinking morning coffee and enjoying the view. Must be under new management as Gilbert said he had just opened. Great value for a fully equipped kitchen, wifi, TV. First time I have had daily maid service with clean towels and the maid did the dishes, most unusual for the price. The restaurant has great happy hour deals. The only complaint is the second bed had a very uncomfortable mattress, layers of towels took care of that problem.

We LOVE our villa in Manuel Antonio while we were there. It gave us a nice, personal place to hang out after a long day in the National Park or on the beach. We were there for 7 days and the place was spacious enough not to feel claustrophobic after all of that time. There is a restaurant on the premise that is open fairly late which was convenient. We would stop by most days and pick up ice or buy some water for the night. They also have a guard in the parking lot on duty all night which made us feel much safer, since the villa itself is completely made of screens.

Had a great stay at Ylang Ylang Manuel Antonio. Great views, great restaurant, clean and friendly. Cabin had a great view with a hammock on the cool patio.

This was an amazing place to stay. Very economical and had all the amenities you would need-daily maid service who neven did dishes, beach towels, a/c and a balcony with a hammock. The view was the "best" Saw other places at a lot more money that did not have what we did. The restaurant beside us was very convenient and a great place to eat. Right across from bus stop to Quepos and park and walking distance to 2 beautiful beaches. Alex was very helpful and we could ask for anything. Would highly recommend this for short or long term vacationers.
"Could Have Been Wonderful"

I wrote a previous review because I couldn't get through to the owner about my reservation. That was straightened out shortly before I got there, but not without serious misgivings. Once I got there the place looked EXACTLY like the pictures. Beautiful. But... On closer inspection - the kitchen was not clean. I would have had to clean it to use it. The stove did not come on - no propane? Oh well, I decided not to cook - I'm on vacation, although that would have saved a few dollars! The couch was not the cleanest (had a dirty smell) and therefore, I couldn't sit on it. The bedsheets were threadbare and the mattress had no pad or cover. I rectified this by sleeping on a towel. Well, not good enough!! I got home to discover bed bug bites all over my legs and arms! What's more maddening than this is I stayed at a lovely place in Monteverde for $25 a night!!! WITH FULL breakfast and lovely people! This was my splurge! I'm a budget traveler and I don't need to be coddled. I have lived in Mexico and travel as frequently as I can. So the occasional "no hot water" - bugs that are indigenous to the area - its all part of the charm and adventure. I just want a clean room. The location is lovely, the view - beautiful. And the bar has happy hour at 5:30 with delightful 2 for 1 drinks. But until they rectify these issues, which I am told they will I cannot recommend this place. I hope it comes together...
