This is a traditional Japanese Inn, so you sleep on tatami mats with futons and share the bath, but the staff was outstanding and the location is remarkable, so I highly recommend it to those willing to sleep on the floor in the way of the ancients.

This is a traditional Japanese Ryokan - we had a "Japanese Style Room" which means tatami floors and a few futon's (ie mats on the floor). Our room overlooked a raked zen garden. Incredibly restful. Make sure you go to their actual website and get directions... just realize that they aren't exactly clear and when you think you should have gotten there […] but aren't, go further... you'll get there. It takes some navigation skills and luck to be able to locate this ryokan. The surroundings of Murayama Park is very pleasant though and makes the journey less tedious. My room was very clean and adequately warmed. Take note that it's a self-service ryokan and guests are supposed to make the futon themselves. The bathrooms only open from 5 to 1130pm […] (there are 2 of them, each with spa) and 7 to 9am in the morning. 10pm seemed to be the peak hour for bathing and I waited quite a while before it's my turn. Simple breakfast is served. Though it's written "continental breakfast" on the menu, do expect more fusion, Japanese food in the morning. There seems to be only 1-2 staff in the ryokan. It's a small ryokan though, with only 9 rooms. But for its price, I would still say it's value for money for a ryokan experience. Though tucked in a park, it is just a 15 minute walk away from the shopping district of Gion and Karawamachi. I would want to stay here again if I return to Kyoto Read more

The accommodation is located at the top of Maruyama Park and a short walk through the park leads you stright into Gion. Yoshimizu Ryokan is clean, tidy and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast is generous and the facilities are ample, especially the two Japanese baths. We would recommend this Ryokan to couples and families.

外国人宿泊者と日本人宿泊者が半々ぐらい。部屋は石庭のような庭に面してよかったです。風呂は外国人客も多いせいか、情緒を演出したいのか、木桶と木の腰掛でしたが、古びたものでわびさびを好む人には良いかもしれないが、とても衛生面で安心できるものではありませんでした。特に腰掛は裸で直に座るのですから、使いませんでした。中腰で体を洗い、シャンプーしました。プラスチックの風呂用腰掛の方が安っぽいですが、よほど安心です。 朝食の開始は8時と遅く、早く観光目的地に向うには適しませんし、さらに8時より遅れました。それでもロビーが開いていけばいいのですが、朝では戸が閉まりシャットアウト、戸に鍵はかかっているわけではないですが、日中は開け放たれているのに閉まっていればはいるには躊躇します。つまり７時ぐらいに起床した […] なら、何も無い自分の部屋にいるしかないのです。 朝食はきわめて簡単なもので、パンと飲み物で、ゆで卵があります。野菜スープが出されましたが容器の3分の1程度にいれてあるぐらいで、ものたりません。たしかに量を減らせば節約にはなり、利益は若干ふえるでしょうが、女性ならいざしらず、これではほんとうにケチだという印象を持ちます。特に外国人はだいたい食事量が多いですから、充分とは言えないでしょう。ぼくもヨーロッパなどの旅行でレストランでの供される料理の量に各国で驚いたぐらいですから、この野菜スープには失望でしょう。容器の半分より多くて普通ではないか思います。 Read more

１日目の30km完歩後、3月2日泊。第一印象は大変感じのよい女性スタッフの親切で自然な対応。丸山公園の山手にある大変静かな環境。風呂とトイレは共用だが、快適で問題なし。翌朝の軽食も規定時間より1時間ほど早いにも拘わらず、対応してくれた。ただスタッフが少なく忙しいと思うが、朝食はもう少ししっかりしたものが望ましいと思う。

Hotellet är ett underbart traditionellt hus. Vi fick rum på ovanvåningen med utsikt över trädgård och backen nedför. Grönt och fint närområde på snabbt gångavstånd till park med körsbärsblommor, traditionella kvarter och några de otaliga sevärda tempel i Kyoto. Närmsta station ligger på 15 min gångavstånd men taxi är mycket prisvärt i Kyoto så det är […] var inget problem. Rekommenderar alla att använda taxi åtminstone vid ankomst/hemfärd då det är en bra backe uppför. Rummen var rena och traditionellt inredda med futoner som bäddas på tatamimattor. Då det var kallt fanns ett otroligt effektivt värmeaggregat på rummet. Delad toalett med närmsta rummet och två delade japanska bad (en en extra dusch) för hela hotellet som kan paxas, dvs man kan bada japanskt utan att behöva ta hänsyn till separerade bad som på de flesta andra ställen. Nätt men helt ok och välsmakande frukost på morgonen. Fantastiskt trevlig personal som hjälpte till med allt vi bad dem om. Definitivt ett ställe att stanna på om man vill uppleva den traditionella sidan av Japan! Read more
