"Beautiful haven-- old town Lijiang; Nick rocks!"
Some reviews have already mentioned the wonderful proprietor of this gem of a hotel, but I must start by emphasizing that Nick goes well beyond anyone I have met in the hotel business to ensure your stay is outstanding. I travel a good deal around the world and in China, and I am so impressed by Nick's helpfulness and the exquisite beauty of this hotel. The […] hotel is right on a beautiful canal that winds through old town; you can step outside your door and join the throngs of shoppers and people watchers, but when you tire of that you can go back and drink in the serenity and beauty of the Sina Hotel grounds, with their well-tended flowers, or just relax in your clean, comfortable, authentically designed room. We stayed with our two kids in the family style Tatami room, which was just enough space for us all, with a loft bedroom and a king sized bed below. The shower was great, and the beds were so comfortable. I am sensitive to cigarette smoke, so it was wonderful to find rooms in China that did not smell of smoke at all. Everything smelled great at this hotel. If you are an American, don't be scared away by the reviews that say this hotel is hard to find. It is, at first, but that is old town Lijiang in general. You should come here to lose yourself, and you will eventually find yourself again. Bring the phone number of the hotel with you, and have your cab driver call it if you have no Chinese phone. Nick will send someone for you, and once you find the place the first time, it will seem ridiculously easy to find thereafter. Nick gives special attention to all of his guests, and can help you set up all sorts of day trips from Lijiang. If he is not too busy when you arrive, take some time to have tea with him and get to know him, as he's had a fascinating life. This hotel is easily one of the most beautiful spots in Lijiang, and it is among the best accommodations I've seen in China. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel located at the edge of old town. i.e. it took 5 min walk from the entrance where a taxi can not goes in. Tour and interesting point of town was guided by Nick, owner, so we saved a lot of time. The driver was arranged by Nick, so we went the Lijiang Impression show. On our departure to Dali, Nick take us to the train station in early morning. […] We were impressed his services. The room has electric blanket that we used at cold night in April. "Good base for a stay"
I liked the place -- nice location beside a canal in the Old Town -- the owner Nick speaks good English, he really cares about the hotel, and is always trying to improve things. It's a lovely setting, and while not luxurious, is perfectly comfortable. I arrived late, and had no hope of finding the hotel; after some cajoling, Nick came to the south gate […] and gave me a ride on his motor bike. No breakfast facilities, but I found a great local place just across the bridge... Overall, it works very well, it's part of the old town but away from the karaoke madness of Lijiang! Quiet at night, some lovely tables in the sun during the day... good value overall. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"First Class service from hotel manager"
The service provided by the hotel manager, Nick, was first class. As no cars are allowed in the old town, the hotel sent a trishaw to pick up our bags from the town gate where the taxi from the airport dropped us off. On our return from Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, because I had altitude sickness and was too weak to walk from the gate to the hotel, Nick […] came on his motorbike to fetch me all the way to the hotel room. He also brought us to a place where we had good and cheap Hokkien food. The hotel is in a quiet part of the old town so the Christmas revelry in the market square did not affect our sleep at all. Breakfast is easily purchased from little stalls just outside the hotel selling Chinese snacks like pancakes, soya bean milk, deep-fried fritters and tea-infused eggs. The heating system is not too good though and the bathroom's drainage needs improvement. The whole toilet gets wet when one is bathing as there is no separate enclosure for the shower. I understand that they are expanding to a place across the river and the bathrooms there will have separate shower compartments. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great location and fantastic service"
Ideal location. On the edge of Old Town, away from the hustle and bustle yet within walking distance to everywhere. Small and cozy with nice grounds. A gazebo overlooking a river which runs along one side of the hotel is stocked with Chinese tea-making facilities for guests. We enjoyed having a cup of tea when we return from our day's activities. Service […] is superlative. Nick, the Manager, picked us up from the airport. He speaks Mandarin, Cantonese and some English and although we didn't understand each other totally, his warmth and enthusiasm more than made up for any lack. We were allowed to choose our own room as the hotel was not full. After a welcome pu-erh tea, Nick arranged for us to visit the various attractions for next 2 days, together with some other guests, in order to save on transport costs. We stayed here for 3 nights and moved over to another hotel in Shuhe. As driver was not available, Nick drove us there and refused to charge us any fare. He even arranged for our airport transfer 2 days later. The driver Mr Yang, was careful and caring and would drive us to as many places to visit as time permits. On our way to the airport, he took us on a longer and scenic route in order that we can see more of Lijiang. Mr CJ, the GM not only had tea with us but walked us to places we had enquired about. Staying at Sina Hotel was indeed an exceptional experience where the staff treat each guest like friends. We would definitely stay here again should we return. "Beautiful hotel and great hospitality"
Sina Hotel is on the edge of Lijiang old town and it was an easy and pleasant walk into the main square (it would probably take about 15 - 20 minutes if we hadn't kept popping into all the shops....). It's right by one of the streams and thoughtfully designed around a courtyard. We stayed in the family suite which looked right out on the stream. It […] was coldest January when we were there and you do need to switch the heating on in the room, but once that was cranked up we were pretty cosy, but it was pretty brisk in the morning. The room was clean and well kept. The hotel's greatest asset is doubtless the charming owner, Nick, who speaks excellent English and gave us lots of useful guidance on our stay. With no driver available to take us to Tiger Leaping Gorge, he drove us himself, showed us a beautiful temple on the way and got us into the kitchen of a local restaurant so we could chose the freshest food. He helped us with prices and tea shopping and made us feel very welcome indeed. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Owner Nick and his driver careful Yang were great. Nick is a great help. "Great Location and Staff"
I stayed at this hotel for only 2 nights but it was an amazing stay. I have been traveling in China for a while now and it was really nice to talk to someone who spoke great English. Nick was very friendly and helpful. He was able to arrange a side trip to Tiger Leaping Gorge for me with three other people so it saved me a lot of money. He has a lot […] of good ideas if your looking for things to do and can plan anything for you. the rest of the Staff was also great even if their english wasn't the greatest they did try to help the best they could. The hotel itself was amazing. It was not too expensive but its perfectly located in the old town. Its about a ten minute walk to where all the bars are but just far enough that you can get a quiet restful sleep. The room was big and the washroom was even bigger. Lots of room and very clean. It feels as though you are at a cottage. Overall it was a great experience, I just wish I could have stayed a bit longer. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

I was in Lijiang last December with my family while walking along the stream, we found this hotel Sina right in front of this wide stream which we never found in old city (6 meter to 8 meter which normally only 1 meter to 2 meter). This time, this trip we stay in a room overlooking the stream so we can listen to the sound of water flow. We was so amaze […] by the room’s toilet, as it is as big as a room compare with other hotels in Lijiang, it is clean and beautiful. The garden is very big with two fountain and 2 fish pond. Furthermore, the connection of WI-FI is strong and is accessible within the hotel compound. The room charges is really value for money. "Great location, great management and great driver"
We had a great time in Lijiang, in large part due to the great location of the hotel, and also Nick, who is the hotel manager at Sina Hotel, as well as the hotel's dedicated driver. Sina is one of the largest hotels in the ancient city, and is conveniently located just off of QiYi street which leads into the main square of the city. It is also a short […] walk from the South Gate and the new city. Nick was a very gracious host. He often enjoyed having chinese tea with guests, and also organized a bbq dinner for us while we were there. He had great recommendations on what to do around Lijiang (he helped arrange all of our day trips), as well as the best restaurants in the area. The hotel's dedicated driver was great - he took us everywhere we wanted to go and was always on time. If you're going to Lijiang, we highly recommend staying at this hotel! "Suitable for the first 1 or 2 days in Lijiang"
You get exactly what you paid for in China! This is not a hotel but a bigger guesthouse in South part of Lijiang Old Town. A bit old facilities (no dinning room and bath tube), no English speaking staffs, no river side view room(actually quite noisy and dirty stream view).. The only thing you might get pleased was Nick, the owner of this hotel, who […] can speak a bit of English and is willing to help guests with a big smile all the time which you very rarely get from ordinary Chiness. Travelers with family or who don't like to stay English speaking domitory questhouse are recomended. Watch out the darkness and strolling big dogs in the street at night though. "Sina provided a most enjoyable holiday!"
If you are not travelling with a group and looking for a peaceful, comfortable and pleasant holiday at Lijiang, Sina Hotel will be a good choice. At least, the past week spent there was one of the most enjoyable trip I've had in recent years. The hotel is a garden of elegant design located in a quiet corner of the ancient town where you needn't worry […] about the noise of playful groups at night. Nick, the boss, is most helpful and considerate, offering all useful travel tips and advice, tending to your needs, trying all he could to ensure a worthwhile trip for you. The staff is very friendly and helpful but speaks no English. The manager nick speaks English and is always ready to help. I called ahead of time and organised an airport pickup for a reasonable price and it saved me a lot of hassle. The hotel is in a relatively quiet part of lijiang and close enough to the old town gate so you don't need to walk to far to get to transport. Nick organised a driver to take us and for a day tour. This is as much better way to see the sites (e.g. jade mountain) and avoid the tourist groups, but the driver does not speak English. The rooms are nice enough but can be a bit damp and cold in winter. All in all a nice place to stay.

The quaint old architecture is what's charming about Sina Hotel in the quiet part of Lijiang old town. The cabbie from the airport called Sina Hotel for directions but still dropped us off at the wrong gate which is at opposite end of the hotel! After calling Sina myself this time, the hotel asst. manager Ms. Yen drove up in a moped which has room only for my mom and her luggage while I had to walk and drag my own luggage along bumpy cobblestone roads. After she let my mom out, she did rush back on foot to help me carry my poor beaten up luggage - thanks. Since the place wasn't fully booked, she upgraded us to a bigger room on the ground floor which is more accessible for my 77-yr old mom - thanks. We liked the courtyard. I agree, the manager Nick was helpful, offering to book a private car with "superb driver/guide Mr. Yang". Next day, Mr. Yang didn't show up due to some appointment. Another driver came. On the 3rd day, Mr. Yang had to take "training classes" and sent someone else. On our last day, still no show for the elusive Mr. Yang when we needed a car to take us straight to Shangrila. The 3 drivers were fine but not in the same caliber as Yang shifu. Disappointing. Reminder: don't share your car with other guests. On our trip to see "Impressions Lijiang" show, Nick made his 2 other guests ride with us in OUR previously booked car. My mom and I thought it'd be ok. Wrong! After the show and sightseeing itinerary I had planned with Nick, the other 2 guests from Northern China suddenly told the driver to go somewhere else, completely out of the way. We were stuck with them and worse, not even stopping for lunch. My mom was so upset and starved. Finally at almost 3pm, the driver found us a roadside shack and got us some local cold noodles with spices. Still, Lijiang Old Town is a must-see, must-go destination.
"Nice hotel in Lijiang old town"
11/04/14 chromecranks San Francisco, CA
My sister and I recently stayed at Sina hotel in Lijiang old town. First, I have to say that the location is almost perfect. This is because it is relatively close to one of the old town gates. So, if you are coming from the airport, you can take a taxi to the gate, and then let Sina hotel know you are there, and someone will come to meet you with a cart to take your bags to the hotel. This is so helpful of them! You cannot drive inside the old town so it is handy to stay at a hotel close to one of the entryways and not have to drag your bags all over the cobblestone streets. And also, there are MANY little alleyways and backstreets with LOTS of little hotels tucked back in there- being non-Chinese-speaking, if I had to try to find one of those hotels (especially if it was nighttime), I think I could end up very frustrated. It is easy to get turned around amongst all those little alleys if you don't know where you're going. We even saw many Chinese tourists staring confusedly at maps, trying to figure out where they were! So the location of Sina hotel was really great (and also a nice distance away from the mass of tourists). The only reason it was not perfect, however, is because it is across the street from a small bar/cafe/restaurant that had a live music performance every single night. Luckily for us it was an acoustic performance (just one woman and a guitar), and we actually kind of liked the music, but it was EVERY night and it was VERY loud. Honestly, you could not hear it better even if you were right in the venue! If you are a light sleeper you will have a big problem with this, but I don't know if this happens throughout the year or if it is only at certain times (we stayed around Sept. 23-26). Also, the performance did end at about 11pm every night, so that was at least good, but if you want to go to sleep before then you might be out of luck. I liked the style of the room. The beds were kind of hard, but I actually like this, so it was fine for me and I slept well. The shower is large and modern, so that was really nice, but there were some small water drainage problems under the sink that made the floor around the sink a little messy. The whole room was pretty clean. The outdoor hallway was a real treat- comfy and with a nice view. The courtyard area was also very pretty. The people at the reception area did not speak English but they were very nice and quick to call Nick (the owner) if we needed help communicating. Nick was very friendly and high energy, and very helpful when we had different questions about nearby traveling, etc. I would recommend this hotel unreservedly except for the music from the nearby venue. Double-paned glass on the side of the venue might address this issue, so it's something the hotel could consider, but I'm not sure if it's something that would work with the style of the windows.

This hotel is excellent. The best part of it is the great service from Nick. He treats you like a brother and he even drove be to the airport when a taxi was hard to find. Room was big and very stylishly designed. Location is excellent about 200 metres inside the old city - not far to walk but no cars and noise. I recomend this place.

I will try share our impression about Sina Hotel. It's an old house, typically in Lijiang style, more hotel than a inn, due to its big size. Location is good, close to taxi station and old town center. Rooms have good decoration but are not so clean or well maintained. Bedding is very comfortable so we slept very well even during fresh night at Lijiang 2400 m high. Service was OK but not so professional, mainly chinese speaking for chinese type of customers. Fortunately Nick, the owner, was speaking english and helped us for some tour organization. Sina hotel miss some professional staff and organization to make your stay "special". So we were not very pleased at the end. Lijiang drain mass of tourists and hotels take the money without real value in return...

This hotel is absolutely adorable. Not only does it boast a brilliant location, its architecture is marvellous, the rooms (don't go for the cheapest ones but rather book the ones upstairs!) are beautifully furnished and very individual - a nice treat from all those standardized rooms you find all over now. The staff is very friendly and helpful, not everybody speaks English but Nick, the owner, makes up for this. He is cheerful and knowledgeable and I regretted not having booked a longer stay as he also arranges sightseeing trips for his guests. When the driver didn't show up who was supposed to bring me to the airport, Nick even took me there himself! Do go and stay there!

Excellent, excellent hotel. The hotel is beautiful. Staff hospitality and security was excellent. The room was top notch. Feels like just at home. Stayed here for four nights and the experience was wonderful. The owner Nick was so helpful that he kindly brought me to buy winter clothes as the one brought was too thin. I have never experience such hospitality even in other 5 stars hotel around the world. Since I was alone he even brought me and show me around old town and giving very good advise on avoiding tourist traps around town. Another best thing about this hotel is they have their own driver that provides tour around Lijiang and it's much more cheaper than going to tour operator around town. I love this hotel so much and I am bringing my family and friends to stay here. Thanks for everything Sina Hotel.
