"Friendly, helpful place"
These folks care about their guests. This is especially helpful to tourists who need advice about the roads, sights and how to fulfill their expectations. From the hotel reception to the restaurant staff, all went out of their way to meet our needs. "great little place"
This hotel was so quaint and gorgeous and the staff very accommodating and friendly. We had the attic room so getting our luggage up and down was difficult, but the room itself was comfortable. The location was kind of remote when it came to getting around, but it was very close to the airport which was nice for our early morning flight back to London. We booked last minute choosing le Chene for its location and value for money We walked from the airport about ten minutes however if you have a suitcase number 11 bus picks up at the airport and drops outside of the hotel for £1. The rooms are a little dated however perfectly serviceable. Staff very friendly and lots of little extras such as bus passes , torches library and umbrellas for use. Wifi was ok The breakfast was very good quality with cooked breakfast made to order. I would certainly stay there again .
"look beyond the decor"

Don't let your heart sink as you cross the threshold of Le Chene Hotel just because the doormat is worn and the decor makes you feel like you have been whisked back in time to 1982. The high use areas have been recently painted, the carpets are clean, and the rooms are spotless. Nothing was too much trouble for the young, mostly Romanian staff. Breakfast was of acceptable to good quality. Good quality sausages and bacon are a must for bed and breakfast, and it was a relief to eat properly cooked (not dry) scrambled eggs, a rare thing in any hotel. The one dinner we had was late to arrive, (twelve rounds of I-Spy) but delicious and good value. Our room was basic but with a really comfortable bed, and everything we needed. We borrowed fishing tackle, swam in the pool, lounged in the hot tub and read books in the conservatory. Although near the airport, we did not hear much noise. No planes at night either. I would certainly go there again. Last minute B+B on Guernsey in August for £54 a night? Not bad!
"Great value for money"

We were four adults and two children, so we booked a family room and a standard room. Both rooms were good, the family room was very spacious and ideal for the kids. There was a great vibe amongst the staff, they clearly respected their boss (who often manned the reception) and couldn't do enough for us. The food was so good that we ate at the hotel every night. The swimming pool and spa were good, a great place to relax. Met other guests, some of whom go back there every year. Would definitely return.
"An affordable hotel conveniently located"

This hotel reminded me of the time when as a student I was staying in people's home as a paying guest. The bus stops are just opposite the hotel making it easy to go to town, to the airport or to the coast. The breakfast and dinner are quite good. There is a lovely little bay close by, petit bot bay; if you happen to take the signposted walk down make sure you take the other road through the forest to come back as this walk is even more picturesque.

We've been staying in this hotel many times before and our visits always have been great, thanks to everyone at the le chene hotel! The location is very good: close to the airport, only 15 minutes away from St. Peter Port (if you are going by bus) and one of the most beautiful beaches on the island is just few minutes away from Le Chene. Food is always good, staff is friendly and welcoming, lovely accommodation (you could stay in the bedrooms or take self catering apartments). Considering Le Chene is only a two star hotel, it's got great facilities: nice bar, swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi, table tennis, cycle hire etc. We love the idea of a Smart cabrio hire in summer. The list could go on, all we would like to say Le Chene offers all you need for a great visit of the island!

We stayed for 2 nights. The hotel is in need of modernisation . Our room was very basic with old fashioned decor. Sadly we didn't sleep well because of noise from the room above. You could hear through the floorboards. The whole place could do with a lick of paint and brightening up. I'm surprised the money that they spent on a jacuzzi and sauna didn't go to refreshing the rooms. I have to say, there was no real difference between the economy room and superior so save your money. The cost of the rooms per room were not worth the £90 a night. I'm not sure though if other hotels are on a level with cost but I found it expensive for what you get. The breakfast was excellent and most of the staff were very polite. The owner was very upbeat and friendly and the stay would've been perfect had the rooms not been so dated. I wouldn't rush back sadly, sorry
"7 Night stay at Le Chene"
06/23/14 Nenna W Aberdare, United Kingdom
My friend and I have just got back from our holiday in Guernsey where we have been many times before and love the island. I decided to book Le Chene as there was a bus stop outside the hotel, my friend is disabled and we don't drive. There was also a free bus pass included which proved very useful and lasted the week. We had a twin room overlooking the garden on there were a few stairs to go down to the bedroom from the reception but once down them we were on a level with lounge and dining room and garden and pool. The room we had was number7 and it was good and a bathroom with shower everything was spotless. very comfortable mattresses we slept well. We had half board and the food was good and plentiful. The staff were very helpful and friendly I would like to go back one year The weather was hot and sunny the whole week

We stayed at this hotel a few weeks ago for three nights. The hotel was clean and comfortable, the bedroom was quite small but with plenty of storage space, but the decoration was very dated and needs an update. Great breakfast served by very friendly staff. We only had one evening meal at the hotel and this was very good. Be warned that it is near the airport and some people might find the noise a problem, we didn't. A good location for exploring the island.
"friendly but dated"

We had an unexpected few days at Le Chene this week and enjoyed ourselves very much. Having the pool outside was lovely and as long as you ate in the hotel in the evening, you got free use of the jacuzzi and sauna for an hour at night (odd I know). The hotel was very clean with friendly staff, although the furnishings were quite dated and the bath and shower screen needed renewing. Once I'd rehung the curtains and my husband had put WD40 on our squeaky door (and the neighbours asked as well!) we felt much more comfortable. The manager was a bit lackadaisical, but the rest of the staff were lovely. Don't try to get a drink at the bar after 11 though, because it closes and they turn the lights off on you lol - first time that's happened to us in a hotel. Being close to the airport had an unexpected hitch, when a plane crashed 200 yards down the road and the road was closed off, but they couldn't help that!
"Not so raving review for Le Chene"
06/21/14 John P Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom
This was our third visit to Le Chene within a year, we had two visits in 2013 June and September and our Third visit was last week for 8 nights on the Half Board basis, where as during 2013 it was B&B. I have to say after our first visit in June 2013 we both raved about Le Chene, we really enjoyed our stay, first and foremost, we were looking for excellent meals at each end of the day, and we got that hence the reason for booking on Half Board basis in June 2014. Unlike many other reviews talking about dated decor this was not a problem with us, as we had good accommodation, the room was clean throughout as with all our visits. The main thrust of this review is bring attention to the Meals during our visit last week, Breakfast is the same as last year, this includes a full range of Cereals, Juices, Fruits, a full English Cooked Breakfast, Cooked Fish including Kippers, Smoked Haddock, as well as Continental Breakfast with Sliced Ham and Cheese. Our recent visit; Full English Breakfast was served Cold, this was on cold plates as well as cold food. The Smoked Haddock was served partially cooked, this was still raw. Our recent Dinners over the 8 evenings were yet again mostly served on Cold Plates for the Main, the Menu lacked imagination as the main meal over 3 nights were just an adaptation of the previous nights meal, food was heavily Salted also, we are not adverse to a heavy salt diet more especially due to our Health. The Desert was a joke; one evening we had Glaced Banana which was two finely cut strips of Banana which could have been eaten in one spoonful. We also had Chocolate Mousse, this was served in a very small type Clip Top Kilner Jars,, frankly speaking we found this unacceptable. The waiting staff are perfect as always and there have been no changes from last year, however I do understand there have been some changes with the Chef, evidently this is where the problems are with our visit this year, Within the first couple of days of our visit we drew our concerns to the management of Le Chene, only to be advised that the Hotel Inspectors found no problems with the Menu. I had hoped that the management would have been more proactive in the sense by saying how can we remedy your stay with us rather than saying what the Inspectors found. Baring in mind we are all Hotel Inspectors when we can bring the matter into such a forum as The Trip Advisor. We regarded Food and our Meals to be our # 1 priority. The Total cost of our stay at Le Chene for 8 days was £1271.00 on the Half Board basis for a Superior Room and two people. it is now with a heavy heart that we'll not be staying at Le Chene on future visits to GCI Guernsey. Thank you for reading my report.
