If you like gritty rock clubs and beer bars, then you'll love the Barron. It's basically a gritty rock club and beer bar with a hotel. The bar is great, loud, and offers an amazing selection of beers. The hotel is old, elevator-less, and a little short on fit and finish. Flaking paint, rickety furniture in the room. Bed was very clean and comfortable […] and the windows open, which is a plus in my book. Breakfast is very modest and served in the rock club near a plywood stage strewn with audio cables. This is a budget hotel, not fancy, no elevator. But it is in a great location, a few blocks from the metro, with lots of restaurants and shops in the neighborhood. The room was very clean, the shower and the bed were good (and the TV was surprisingly large). I enjoyed my stay and hope to stay there again someday.

If you are looking hotel at this price range in a middle of WDC, you know there are "things" expected. Normal issues like elevator did not work, TV showed blue screen 3 days out of 4, etc. However, the room/hotel was clean, Internet worked fine, staff was friendly and I found location pretty good. This hotel is a great location if you do not have a car. There are stairs to the entry and to the floors. By stairs, I mean there is no elevator. The staff was "busy" and not friendly, but they didn't need to be. The bar is not romantic, but has a great basement bar feel with a wonderful bartender and excellent beer selection.

The hotel's location and price are it's saving grace. The elevator is broken and has been for a long time. There are 4 floors and only 3 or 4 rooms on the first floor so be prepared to lug your luggage up stairs. Most of the staff is not willing to help. The first two people I encountered were in a haze. Located a quick walk from Dupont Circle Metro station and Embassy Row, this place was ideal! Even having a room on the second floor, we never heard a sound from the restaurant/bar downstairs. By the time I got to my room, I was so shocked by the accommodations that I had to check again to see how much I paid. The best part of my stay was the close proximity to my next day's business. Overall it was good. We had problems with the television set not receiving much the first two nights and were told that it would be fixed the second day but it wasn't. Therefore we switched rooms after complaining. The other issue was a lack of recycling, which was very disappointing. We were extremely frustrated with our stay in this hotel!! When we arrived we were told that the only room left was 2 twin beds. We explained that we had reserved and paid already for a room with a queen bed and showed our reservation number. The desk person said that didn't matter because the way they do their rooms is basically first come first serve, […] with or without the reservation. When we protested further, the desk person said he did have a room with a full bed, so we just settled for that!!! The building is old, built around the 1920's. The floors and stairs move and creak when you walk on them. The rooms are tiny. The hotel has a little character just because it's so old. The price was on the lower end, but not much else!! The Baron is an older hotel that has been painted and is reasonably clean, The staff was friendly, but offered only the basic services- check in and daily cleaning. If you want a concierge or bellhop, etc., then look elsewhere. The rooms are above a bar/restaurant that has entertainment, so you want to be at least on the third floor. Bed was OK. There was no view. Location is a few blocks from Dupont Circle- about 3-4 long blocks from the nearest metro station. So, if you are looking to save a few dollars and are willing to stay in a very basic hotel, then the Baron will be fine. However, I'm not sure I saved enough to offset the lack of amenities and I would not stay there again if I was traveling with anyone else. Unique hotel, not your normal experience like you would have in a chain. Very noisy, garbage trucks will wake you in the morning. No working elevator so don't plan on staying there if you have trouble with stairs.

Friendly and honest staff. The room was small, but we were in Washington and didn't spend much time in there. It was vacuumed every day, and the bed was made. The hotel was in walking distance of pretty much all of DC. Maybe 4 blocks from Dupont Circle (and the metro). One word of warning: PARKING! Noise from the street side of the hotel as patrons left the awesome bar in the basement was loud. Particularly at 2 AM when they boot everybody out. A noisy crowd lingered for a half hour on 2 of my 3 nights.

The hotel was fine. Small and well organized. There are some caveats however: 1) No parking is provided - a problem if you have a car. 2) The breakfast is pretty limited. 3) No hangers or closet in the room - which is rather small. 4) only one blanket - only a problem duiring the winter.
