"Good stay in DC"
Nice location and very pleasant staff.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Clean quiet hangout...with beer!"
I *loved* being at the hotel. Great atmosphere with lots of community activities/events in the bar area daily, and my room was still quiet. The basement bar has over 20 beers on tap and it's a legitimate relaxed hangout. The hotel is older, but it's extremely clean. Great location about 5 minutes' walk from the Dupont Circle metro stop. Next time I […] have to work in DC, I'll stay there. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"They didn't hold my reservation."
When I arrived to check in I was told there was "a problem with the room" (i.e. overbooked). I was moved to a sister hotel in an inconvenient location and put in a basement unit that was smaller than the reserved room. I was too flustered to bother arguing or requesting a discount. The new hotel was unacceptable. I was looking forward to staying at […] the Baron for a second time, but my visit was soured with the hotel's inability to hold a reservation. "Cheap and functional with good food"
I love the Baron Hotel. Cheap, functional, with with excellent burgers at thew downstairs restaurant. It is not for leisure travelers, but I am someone who makes many brief trips to DC on business as I an on the board of a DC-based NGO; as such it is perfect for me,Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great hotel for the price."
For the price this is a great hotel. The room we had was clean and the bathroom was even quite nice. Our brief interaction with the staff was pleasant. The best feature is the location. There is a bar in the basement that you must pass to get to the lobby. In my book this is a good thing; there were many beers on tap. Staying on the 4th floor I did […] not hear any noise from the bar at night, but it is a busy place that plays music, so perhaps on other floors there might be some noise. Also there was a burlesque show somewhere in the building and so we had to pass sign that had a cartoon burlesque girl on it. Also not a problem for me, but some people may be put off. "A nice inexpensive hote."
This a a nice, clean, quiet (4th floor room) inexpensive hotel. My room was clean, bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was just fine. I would happily stay there again.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good value for area."
I was in DC for a conference and got closed out of the conference hotel. Searched for something close and in an interesting area at reasonable cost. This fit the bill. It was not luxurious (no exercise room or pool). Although rooms were small the hotel was functional and I never felt unsafe. Bar and club on first floor.Genuine Expedia guest review
Ok, friendly and clean. Sometimes (exceptionally) loud bar music. Free wifi coffee and water. No breakfast included! Good price/quality relationshipGenuine Expedia guest review
"Perfect "old school" hotel for the price"
I loved the location--three blocks a metro station, and in a safe, hipster neighborhood of brownstones and consulates. There's a popular bar/restaurant downstairs. The elevator is definitely vintage--you have to manually open and close the door--but I thought it quite cool.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Did I get the worst room on the hotel?"
So first I should say that I loved the downstairs bar and grill. Great beer, really good food (with a 15% guest discount) and friendly staff. The location is great - 5-10 mins walk to DuPont Circle Metro. And the price was good too. But the room was terrible. It's the sort of hotel room that can only exist in very high demand cities: London, Paris […] etc. It was very small, weirdly shaped, full of cheap and damaged furniture. When I arrived the light in the bathroom wasn't working, nor were half of the electrical outlets (when I told the front desk, the guy told me I probably hadn't found the right switch - the next morning when I told the next guy, he sent someone and it was fixed when I got back.) The floor was uneven. The shower drizzled. What really did bother me though was that the bed was too small (I am under six feet and had to sleep diagonally) and it was really uncomfortable. The mattress has completely given up. On the plus side, the room was clean. The staff helpful (except for the guy who dismissed the fact I had to shower and brush my teeth in the near dark). And the downstairs bar and grill, like I said, was great. To be honest, I'm hoping I got the worst room in the hotel. I suspect not, but it is possible. (Don't stay in 206.) "Inexpensive, old-fashioned European-style hotel."
This is not a hotel to spend a lot of time in, but it provides a good base for exploring DC, close to Dupont Circle. There is no fitness room or similar amenity, and the elevator is creaky, but the rooms are clean, the shower is hot, the beds are omfortable, and the layout has more character than your standard modern motel.Genuine Expedia guest review
My room on the second floor was above the hotel bar where there was a comedy show from until 11 pm. It was incredibly loud and I had to wait until the event was over before I could sleepGenuine Expedia guest review
"Very nice hotel"
This was a perfect place for a couple of days vacation in a great city. Hotel and room were Spartan, but spotless and comfortable. Bathroom shower were perfect. Great location, near metro and Rock Creek Park, and good restaurants. I would do it again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good for one night stay"

"Clean but small"

"Good location and hotel conditions"
Good location. Everything fine. Better than expected.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Pros: Quaint boutique style hotel, nice rooms with very comfortable beds, great complimentary breakfast, good location close to attractions, restaurants and short walk to dupont circle. Cons: Small vanity basin, low water pressure in shower & street noise due to location. Would stay again and would recommend.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good for what it is"
This is a moderately priced hotel and was good for what it tries to be. (1) The bathroom was fine (though I prefer single lever faucets for the lavatory. Enough towels, good shower. Clean room and fixtures. (2) The bed took up much of the space in the room, but that didn't bother me. (3) I was there on weeknights and heard no sound from the bar/restaurant. […] I heard a slight amount of sound from the TV or radio from the next room. (4) Around 7 or so in the morning the trucks came to collect garbage on the street and made noise, but if you're in a city, you get city noise, can't fault the hotel for that. (5) Breakfast was continental and heavy on sweet stuff. I went to a grocery 1.5 blocks away (open 8 AM - 9PM) to get fresh fruit. (6) Restaurants are nearby. It's an 8-minute walk to Dupont Circle and its metro. Buses are 1 minute from the hotel. (7) Heating and cooling are supplied by a window unit that worked for me, but the outside temperature was only chilly when I was there so I didn't give the unit a real test. (8) I'll be glad to return to the hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great for young people in DC to party"
Perfect location, great staff, a lot of fun, rooms were clean. But probably only appropriate for younger people in DC to party - not good for couples and definitely not for families since the bar can get a little rowdy.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Very old. Room tiny and no Wifi in room. Don't stay on 2nd floor. Noise from bar below thumped to midnight. There's a reason it 's cheap.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"The basics, well-located, poorly furnished"
The room was clean with all the basics. The heating and cooling system worked well. The bathroom had recently been refurbished. Furniture in the room probably came from the discount section of a second hand store. The breakfast included in the room rate was OK (cereal and pastries but no fruit)The hotel was advertised as "the Baron Hotel" but the sign […] at the hotel says, "Bier Baron." The downstairs is a bar dedicated to serving a large number of international beers (around 600). The major advantage is the hotel's location in the Dupont Circle area, but with a lower price than other hotels in the vicinity. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Very well located near Dupont Circle where you can catch the hop-on- hoo off bus. Meals in the bar down stars are basis but reasonably priced with discount for hotel guests. Marrakess restaurant in P st good and Irish pub on circle good also. Breakfast very forgettable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"NO ROOM AT THE INN"
I showed up and they said they had my reservation BUT THEY DID NOT HAVE A ROOM FOR ME. They offered another hotel several miles away. While I was waiting someone else checked in and got a room. The front desk agent was rude and clearly did not care very much, if at all. This is totally unacceptable. I STRONGLY WARN EVERYONE AGAINST BOOKING THIS HOTEL […] - YOU MAY END UP LIKE ME WITHOUT A ROOM. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Room was clean, quiet, the hotel itself was loud"
Came to DC for a work trip, and stayed here. The neighborhood was nice and the room was clean. The hotel itself has an interesting decor, that some may see as more disheveled. The ambience is more bed and breakfast like than staying at a more common hotel. The hotel itself was very loud and active. Not a great place to stay if you're looking for a more […] quiet atmosphere. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"8 hour stay"
I checked in at 2am, then checked out at 10am the same day. I absolutely treasured every minute of my stay. The hotel is small and intimate. It preserves DC's historical personality with its architecture (they have a manual elevator!) Nevertheless, the hotel is in great shape. It was spotlessly clean. Also it has great location - I definitely recommend […] spending some time walking around Dupont. Not only will you walk by local cafes but also you will see many of the beautiful embassies (from France's to Indonesia's). Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Simple, comfortable hotel in major DC neighborhood"
The accommodations are pretty simple: one bed, a small bathroom, a slim armoire, and a TV under a desk--all of which fill up the pretty small room. Everything is very comfortable, though, and the hotel is so centrally located that any urge to disparage The Baron Hotel's simplicity is immediately dissolved. Walking around and getting to the metro are […] a breeze. The Baron charged half the rate of nearby hotels, making this place a no-brainer. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Fun place, average rooms"
I stayed at the Baron about 2 years ago, and really loved the location and the fact that there is a cool dive bar in the hotel- so we decided to stay here again. The hotel has an interesting old-fashioned feel to it, and the bar downstairs is very fun. I wished the main bar hadn't been closed off so much for private events, since it's much larger and […] brighter, but it wasn't a huge deal. The location is great, close to DuPont Metro stop, and if it is nice enough it is walkable to the mall (if you like walking). The rooms are small and the bed wasn't super comfortable, but if you are looking for somewhere to crash and that's about it, this is a great place to stay! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location - badly needs refurbishment"
Great location for access to downtown DC - good selection of restaurants nearby Hotel is a bit shabby and room while clean was spartan and in need of refurbishment. Staff were helpful. Hotel has no parking bar a few spots on street outside which must be vacated during afternoon rush hour ....Genuine Expedia guest review
We stayed at The Baron when in town for a friend's wedding and had a wonderful time. It was a great alternative to the over priced chain hotels in town. It had old world charm and an awesome bar/restaurant in the basement that was great for a night cap with our friends. The parking in the area was very limited, so we'd recommend not renting a vehicle […] if you are staying. Also, the breakfast was some toast and coffee. Thankfully, there are tons a great restaurants nearby! We will definitely stay again! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"knew it was bad"
knew it was not a good hotel but tried anyway due to price and at least some reviews. horrible hotel, dirty, small, beds are worn, mattresses are old and carpets are also old and dirty. don't stay here unless you are a young person that wants to party in Washington in a cheap hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Best value for price"
A clean room in-line with the price. It's perfect for spending the night and visit during the day, do not expect more than a clean and usefull room. I'll definitely go back. In addition the district is cool and hotel is close from Subway.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"OK for 1 night"
Stayed for one night. Extremely basic room, double bed & twin (we were a couple) which made things slightly inconvenient. Clean but very plain.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Older hotel that is very clean."

"Great vibe and location"
Helpful staff, terrific location and a hipster bar with 600 beers; The Baron is a very low-key, comfortable stay in an otherwise pretentious city.Genuine Expedia guest review
"You get what you pay for."
THINK VERY CAREFULLY ABOUT STAYING HERE and read through the themes that run consistent throughout these reviews should convince you of that. REMEMBER, You get what you pay for. If you're an adult beyond the college years then you probably won't enjoy it. If you are a college kid and used to dorm/frat house life, dirty carpetting and doorways that are […] gross then you probably will not be so bothered. If your looking for a bargain basement price, you will have comparable quality accomodations, customer service and environment, all of which were horrible, this is the place for you. If you like walking through a cloud of cigarette smoke from all of the smokers standing at the front door, this is the place for you. If you like a bedroom the size of my walk-in closet, this is the place for you. If you like said bedroom windows to offer a vista of neighboring brick walls and back alley trash, then this is the place for you. If you like a breakfast that supplies a toaster, two types of cereal and bad coffee, in a dark, beer stenched room, then this is the place for you. If you like music thumping through the building(from the bar on the first two levels) of the building while you're attempting to sleep or you're not bothered by hearing "a little too much information" from neighboring rooms, then this is the place for you. Not a place for a light sleeper. I am a "glass half full" person but honestly it was tough to find anything redeemable about this place. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Its like visiting your eldest Aunt- in a good way"
If you have never visited your 80 yr old aunt and wanted to know what spending the night would be like, well, then this is the hotel that will give you that expierence- Old, clean, and comfortable enough with no frills. Its one of the cheapest hotels in the city, so dont expect much and you wont be disappointed. Yes, the hotel has a kinda cool bar downstairs […] that can get loud until 11PM (not a problem as we were part of the noise) when the band stops playing. Yes it is an old hotel, with an elevator I had not seen since Europe. Yes, rooms are TINY, and the beds not the most comfortable, BUT the rooms were clean, bathrooms updated, and since I wanted a cheap room in a good location- I got it. the TV worked, the water was hot with great pressure, the staff responsive enough but it isnt a place to take someone you want to impress. This place was near cool bars, nice resturants and had an eclectic vibe. It was a one block walk to the metro, and 10 dollars by taxi to the Washington Monument. No frills. But we had fun there, with the room providing some good stories. Would I stay here again- Yes. Dont stay here if you have a bad lower back (BEDS) and the Coat clostet sized manual elevator may be a problem if you dont like small spaces. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Bed sqeeked very loudly evertime i moved. Hotel had concert in bar for local band. Roomvibrated till after 2 am. I do not recommend this hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Not really a 3-star hotel, more like a 2 or 2.5. Very loud on weekends w/ busy bar on premises. Very dated and old rooms not in best shape but generally clean. It is what it is for the price and location.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Clean but noisey"
Stayed here because the price was affordable and the location excellent. The bed was so loud, squeaked every time you turned over. Bar in hotel had a rock concert on Sat night until after 2 am. The room I was in was vibrating and the music could be heard in the room up on the second floor. Great location, affordable price but we got no rest. Not sure […] I'll stay there again.
