"Works for the price, just don't drive a car."
Room was clean and as advertised. On the small side but for the price, was a great value, if you need a place to stay overnight. Very clean room. Staff not so friendly, matter of fact, but imagine it goes along with the price of the room. Expedia advertised a free continental breakfast, it was actually 5 dollars, from 7 am to 9 am. The single major […] drawback, there is no, repeat no parking. unlike what were advised by expedia. We circled the neighborhood for over 1 1/2 hours plus. All parking is on street. There is no overnight public parking anywhere in the area. And if you find public parking garage, it shuts down by 11 pm. They are many blocks aways. So if you drive in from out of town, do not plan on parking accomodations. Good luck and looking for a street spot. Especially if not a weekend. Good value if you do not have a car to park. The room was located above the bar, which played loud musice from 3PM to 1-3AM every night. There was no closet or other place to hang clothes. There was a hidden charge of $5 per day per person for breakfast, whether you ate it or not. Breakfast consisted of coffee and grocery store bagels and muffins. The furniture looked like it had been salvaged […] from the trash. The bathroom had no place to lay down toiletries. The shower was barely wide enough to move. "NEXT TIME WE'LL BOOK WELL IN ADVANCE"
This place was very old, very small and very few accommodations. The elevator was not working and our room was on the fourth floor. We asked for a different room, they told us there were none. The next morning I heard the desk clerk tell some one they had nine vacant rooms. I would not stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This place has a great bar, which but the hotel is kind of a dive hotel. if you want a place to hang out with friends that is clean but not nice, stay here, if not, go elsewhere.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Worst hotel experience in 50 years."
I have been paying for hotel stays for 50 years, and this was the absolutely worst hotel experience I have ever had. Without notification upon reservation or check-in, our room was situated above a 120+ decibel "performance" in the first floor bar by a much less than mediocre rock band whose bass guitarist's only trick was volume. The walls of our […] room were actually vibrating for more than 5 hours of this horrific exhibition of ineptitude from 8 p.m. until 12.30 a.m. on Friday, May 17, 2013. Upon complaint, the hotel staff said that "some of the acts are louder than others." When I asked if there were ordinances about noise levels in public establishments, I was told the staff didn't know. When I suggested they might call the police to find out, they invited me to do so instead. I asked what they expected me to hear and was told that the police will say "something." Our complaint about the first night resulted in no such noise on the second night of our stay (which was forced upon us only because other hotels in the area were already fully booked). This hotel must be boycotted for accepting good money for such gross indifference to the comfort of its guests! NOT RECOMMENDED, AND NEVER AGAIN! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
I checked in and asked to be moved out. I found it a bit creepy. The front desk was not friendly but looked and actes board at my arrival and the room was well awful. The bed literally cracked and squeeked when i sat done. I could get around the that but not at a 3.2 rating???Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"If you like gritty rock clubs and beer bars...."
If you like gritty rock clubs and beer bars, then you'll love the Barron. It's basically a gritty rock club and beer bar with a hotel. The bar is great, loud, and offers an amazing selection of beers. The hotel is old, elevator-less, and a little short on fit and finish. Flaking paint, rickety furniture in the room. Bed was very clean and comfortable […] and the windows open, which is a plus in my book. Breakfast is very modest and served in the rock club near a plywood stage strewn with audio cables. Some might find this really gross - I call it character. I'd stay here again on business, but maybe aim a little higher for a romantic weekend with my wife. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not bad. Quaint. Felt English."
All was good, but no elevator or parking garage makes it difficult with luggage. But, I loved the small room and the food was notably good. Beer was great.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good value but strange."
The house cleaners were great. The desk staff were unfriendly and seemed "put out" with any questions. The breakfast was minimal and not healthy. It's hard to believe that desk staff get paid for sitting in a chair and giving you a blank stare. A person needs to be assertive to get a room that is not claustrophobic and has some natural light.Genuine Expedia guest review
"OK for an old brownstone"
It's an interesting old hotel. Not suited for a demanding business traveller, but good bar food at the restaurant downstairs and good mix of beers.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Bare bones hotel, but clean"
if you are looking for posh this is not the place to book. Very bare bones, rather dark but clean. there is an overwhelming smell of cleaning stuff. the most modern thing in each room are the bathrooms, small, cramped but ok there are no working elevators so having a room on the third floor was difficult when bringing in the luggage, otherwise good […] for the cardiovascular system. "Not a good hotel to stay!"
We are senior traveling, the elevator was broke and still are room is on the third floor. The breakfast is aweful bread is like a rock and no assistance at all. Not even one person is there to assist customers. We are just frustrated and not expecting this to happened. We have to buy our own bottle water.Genuine Expedia guest review
Very small rooms, broken elevator, squeaky stairs and floors. I prefer a more modern structure over a renovated 80+ year old building.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great place to stay!"
My wife and I stayed at The Baron Hotel for 2 nights. The place was clean, and totally not a cookie cut hotel. It had charm, and a fantastic Continental Breakfast. We didn't see an elevator (but we didn't look for one, we're stair climbing kind of people). I want to stay at The Baron Hotel on our next trip to D.C. it's close to Dupont Circle. "Nice DC hotel for a few days, mostly for a couple"
The positive points are: The location is great, just 10 min walking from Dupont circle where you can get the metro subway and get anywhere in Washington DC. Also, the area around the hotel has many nice restaurants and cafe. The room was very clean and the cleaning staff did very good job. the price is reasonable for DC. The negative points are: People […] at the front desk were not always helpful and whether you get help really depends on who you will meet in the front desk. Since part of the first floor is a bar, avoid a bed on the first/second floor because it can get noisy and disturbing. The best rooms on the 3rd/ 4th floor but...there is no elevator. The WiFi is theoretically free but the signal is very weak in most rooms. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Clean budget hotel in excellent location."
This is a budget hotel, not fancy, no elevator. But it is in a great location, a few blocks from the metro, with lots of restaurants and shops in the neighborhood. The room was very clean, the shower and the bed were good (and the TV was surprisingly large). I enjoyed my stay and hope to stay there again someday.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not very good"
Really small room, could hear the street easily at night and the bed was uncomfortable.Genuine Expedia guest review
If you are looking hotel at this price range in a middle of WDC, you know there are "things" expected. Normal issues like elevator did not work, TV showed blue screen 3 days out of 4, etc. However, the room/hotel was clean, Internet worked fine, staff was friendly and I found location pretty good. If you like good beer and cosy pub style feeling/decoration, […] this hotel is for you. The pub in the cellar is just amazing! Oh, and when taking a shower just let the water run a while, it will get hot ;) Actually, the only negative thing I can say is the wall-to-wall carpet used everywhere... "Great location- not much on looks/services"
The employees there barely speak english, also I booked a room online and they waited till I got there to let me know that it was under "emergency services" tried to place me in another hotel when I took and hour to find parking to stay there. I refused to go to another hotel- and then the room (or a room) became available. The rooms looked like an […] old hostile to me- missing tiles in the bathroom, the paint cracking, took approximately 5 mins for hot water to come in. "No elevator, but awesome bar"
This hotel is a great location if you do not have a car. There are stairs to the entry and to the floors. By stairs, I mean there is no elevator. The staff was "busy" and not friendly, but they didn't need to be. The bar is not romantic, but has a great basement bar feel with a wonderful bartender and excellent beer selection.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Well worn in a great location"
The hotel's location and price are it's saving grace. The elevator is broken and has been for a long time. There are 4 floors and only 3 or 4 rooms on the first floor so be prepared to lug your luggage up stairs. Most of the staff is not willing to help. The first two people I encountered were in a haze. I spoke and they did not respond. It's like I […] didn't exist except to hand them a credit card. The street noise seemed to funnel straight into my room (414) and it was the worst nights sleep I've had in a hotel in a long time. "Great for the Price and Location"
We had a recently redone room, so it was very nice and clean. The bathroom was also redone and was actually really nice. The biggest issue was the mattress, which was lopsided and very creaky. I did ask for two add'l pillows at around midnight and the front desk rep brought them right to our room. We were visiting friends in Dupont Circle, so for the […] price, the location was awesome. Located a quick walk from Dupont Circle Metro station and Embassy Row, this place was ideal! Even having a room on the second floor, we never heard a sound from the restaurant/bar downstairs. If anything, the daily garbage pick-up service was the noisy part. There is also a gas station across the street for convenience items, and plenty of restaurants […] within walking distance. "Not a hotel for a quiet night's sleep"
The hotel is located in a central area: Dupont Circle. Despite that advantage, I would not stay at this hotel again. The people at bar on the first floor are loud and rowdy. You could hear the traffic, police sirens and conversation outside through the window. My stay was filled with noise. Find somewhere else to stay if you want a quiet night's sleep. "Great for couples"
The hotel was exactly what we expected. We booked a room here because we knew we would be gone a lot and it was close to all the attractions. Our room was recently renovated and very clean. Also, our room was on the 4th floor […] so we didn't hear the tavern at all. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
So before I left for DC I read all the horrible reviews and was a little worried about going. Let me say...the people bashing this hotel are very extreme. Yes the elevator does not work but I guess with me knowing that going in I did not care. The staff were all very friendly and helpful to me and even honored my request for a 4th floor room. The hotel […] is older but our room was very clean and comfortable. The location is amazing especially for younger couples as it is in the trendy DuPont Circle area. Even though we were one of the few families there (Including my nine-year-old son), we always had great places to eat and this place is only a few blocks to the metro. Huge plus in my book! "Worst room in the house when a band plays"
Although I had a reservation for a month, they put me in room 208 directly above the live band on Friday night. It was unbelievably loud - second only to the bathroom fan. The coffee was great at breakfast, the powdered creamer not. Empty carbs was all there was for food. "I had to look again to see how much I paid"
By the time I got to my room, I was so shocked by the accommodations that I had to check again to see how much I paid. The best part of my stay was the close proximity to my next day's business. Not only was there no room service, there was not restaurant, nor elevator. Though the room was tidy, the queen-sized bed I reserved was a full with an accompanying […] twin - not even adjoining. The white sheets were dingy. I was afraid that I looked harder, I would find stains. The cleanliness of the bathroom was the biggest delight. The free continental breakfast, though quite spare, was a saving concession. For $280 / night, I expected much, much more. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"handy for catching metro at an affordable price"
Overall it was good. We had problems with the television set not receiving much the first two nights and were told that it would be fixed the second day but it wasn't. Therefore we switched rooms after complaining. The other issue was a lack of recycling, which was very disappointing. We didn't need our sheets changed every day but unless we told staff […] that personally they still changed the sheets. This seems to be an environmental waste. I would suggest a door hanger that offers guests the chance to suggest no cleaning/sheet/towel changing. Other than that we liked the place--nice people, friendly, great beds. "Has character, not much more!!"
We were extremely frustrated with our stay in this hotel!! When we arrived we were told that the only room left was 2 twin beds. We explained that we had reserved and paid already for a room with a queen bed and showed our reservation number. The desk person said that didn't matter because the way they do their rooms is basically first come first serve, […] with or without the reservation. When we protested further, the desk person said he did have a room with a full bed, so we just settled for that!!! The building is old, built around the 1920's. The floors and stairs move and creak when you walk on them. The rooms are tiny. The hotel has a little character just because it's so old. The price was on the lower end, but not much else!! I would not recommend this hotel!! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location & comfy bed for business person"
This was not a five star hotel, but the location, the new bathroom, and the free breakfast can't be beat for a person traveling for business on a budget. I would use this hotel again for pleasure as well as business. The walls are kinda of thin, so if you are a light sleeper, this might not be the hotel for you. "Great deal if you're on a budget!"
The building has obviously settled a bit, as evidenced in some cracks running up through the walls and some uneven floors, but this is not altogether unexpected considering its age. If you can get past those minor cosmetic issues, the Bier Baron Hotel really has a lot of charm. Well decorated, and overall very well maintained. The beds were a bit past […] their prime, though still comfortable with very large and clean bathrooms. The breakfast (included because of booking through a travel site) was acceptable - bagels, pastries, and cold cereal. The pub/restaurant, though, was excellent - fantastic beer selection and excellent food. If you're on a budget this place is a great stay! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
