Took my Mom for Mother's Day. Location was great because it was not right in the mix of things but, plenty to do. Bus/Trolley pick up very close and better than driving yourself so you don't get lost and no worry for parking (all day bus pass is cheap). The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. I think maintenance either needs help or they need […] new maintenance. The safety latch on the door was broke and the pool was gross. It looked kinda dirty and I thought it was just from the sand in the bottom of the pool. There were dead bugs and sloth looking stuff floating in the pool along with mildew build up. A good scrubbing and daily up keep the pool would be great. The bed was very uncomfortable and I had to use a pillow to keep me from rolling into the dip of the mattress. The hotel definitely shows it's age but, considering you can't please everyone I would say the overall stay was good. Yes, I would stay again and I would bring what I need to have a good night sleep as far as the mattress goes. The planes did not bother me but, I'm sure they would some people (you will have that at most all the hotels in this area). Good stay for the price and they will most likely be seeing me again. Husband and I spent our 11th year + our 6 year wedding anniversaries here and the stay was amazing. Besides some minor issues such as: washed sheets with cigerette burns (hotel chould have simply thrown them away and buy new ones), some of the jacuzzi settings did not work, and the jacuzzi siding was open in which we could see up under the jacuzzi.

We booked last minute for one night, not expecting too much. But we were pleasantly surprised. The view from the hotel balcony was stunning. Bathroom etc a little outdated but clean beds were comfortable and staff very nice. Would go again.

The balcony view was beautiful as was the room we stayed in. The staff were very pleasant. The hotel is a bit old and a little out dated but very, very clean.The location of the hotel is perfect. Only one complaint, the water was shut off for a hour or so in the afternoon due to a water break some where in the hotel. They did not notify us about the […] water being shut off, we had to call the front desk to see what was going on. Needless to say we did not get out till late that afternoon waiting for the water to be turned back on so that we could shower. They didn't notify us when it was turned back on either. ALL of the staff went out of their way to be friendly and helpful!! That was surprising and wonderful! The hotel was convenient and there was plenty of parking. Access to the beach and the oceanfront rooms were great! The hotel could use some upgrading, but that is the case with most beach hotels. The whirlpool tubs in each room were fun for my kids! […] My one main complaint was that the doors were SO loud. It was impossible to close them quietly and hence could hear doors closing ALL the time like it was your own. The restaurant didn't keep regular hours, which is understandable during the off season, but it was a little inconvenient. The beds in our room were very uncomfortable. Our family tossed and turned all night b/c of how hard these beds were. We felt like we were sleeping on a rock. Other than that, the hotel & our stay was WONDERFUL!!! Thank you!!

we requested a non-smoking room, and the first room we got not only smelled strongly of smoke, but the WHOLE FLOOR (the 9th) smelled smoky. we requested a change and were quickly moved down to the 3rd, a big improvement. the ocean view was awesome. unfortunately that was the only big positive of our stay there. they have a heated pool, but we forgot […] our swimsuits. we thought we could use the bathroom's hot tub as consolation - another promising feature - but no luck, the hot water ran out in no time, could barely fill a quarter of the tub. to end our disappointing stay, the people next door had a party going on, with us having to wake up early the next day for a sports competition. we had to call the front desk twice to shut'em up for good. wanna party? go out to a club! or rent a room with sound proofing. The hotel appeared in decent shape. While our room was clean there were some issues. First, the hotel is supposed to be non-smoking the was a strong smell of cigarette smoke in the hallway and entrance to our room. Also the shower head was not on all the way and therefore water sprayed out of the connection. The room could use some updating

A few days away at the beach with the kids turned out great! Hotel was great in every way possible.. the only negative thing I can say is that it needs some cosmetic work done in a few places.. but that didnt bother us one bit.. we will be back again!

The hotel room was OLD and the 80's decor needs to be updated. The mattress was very uncomfortable leaving us both with terrible back pains. I have always loved this hotel for the ocean views and comfortable rooms. This last visit I found the rooms in need of repairs. The light on the dresser had no lightbulb and several outlets didn't work. The bathtub whirlpool jets didn't work and the outside covering of the bathtub came loose and disconnected from the tub. You can't beat oceanfront! While the hotel is older, it is clean and comfortable. The staff was kind and helpful, even letting us check in several hours early since our room was ready. Would definitely stay again.

I was really disappointed in the room. I asked for a jet tub and the pictures showed the tub in the bedroom which is what we wanted so we could enjoy the ocean view in the tub. That is not what we got. It was in the bathroom. The walls were in need of some paint but the rooms kept out the sounds around us.

While the hotel was dated it was very clean and the staff was friendly. The magnificent view compensated for the dated appearance. The restaurant had a limited breakfast menu, the food was adequate and the price competitive.

We didn't spend a ton of time in our room since we were at the beach to go to the beach, but for what time we did spend there it was fine. Nothing fancy although there was a giant bathtub which our 3-year-old son loved! The beachfront balcony was great!! We would stay here again.

We were looking for a reasonably priced hotel on the beach on the off season. This did the trick. We watched the sunrise from our balcony every day. The jacuzzi in the bathroom was a nice treat.

When checking in had to wait over an hour to check in.. I ask the lady at front desk was there a room I could upgrade to with a bigger bed she said no!!! There was no vacancy at all the hole hotel was booked well there no vacancy sign was not on.. I didn't expect for the cheap price I paid that I would have such great service. The lady who checked us in on September 10, 2012 was amazing super friendly and helpful she showed us where everything was located. She gave us a coupon the the Lighthouse restaurant which was right below the hotel they had amazing food and also wonderful service.They have […] free bikes that they let you use to ride down the boardwalk. Also have a nice indoor heated swimming pool. The location was great lots of places to shop and eat. Also the view from our balcony was amazing. Our room also had a jetted huge bathtub, it was nice to relax in after a long day on the beach. If I visit Virgina beach again I will be staying in the Newcastle hotel!!! Read more
