"Great for groups of travelling friends"
Finding a place for three guest was a nightmare, everyone wanted to charge an outrageous "extra person fee" even for rooms with two beds (1 couple and a friend). But this place was found and all was great, two bedrooms each with its own air con controls...fantastic! Stayed 3 nights. Staff highly attentive. The only real con is the fact that the area […] reeks of sewerage (the street is lined with covered sewer holes) so walking from and to the hotel is an experience for the nostrils. "Nice place; very nice people."
We were delighted with our first room, and were just settling in when I noticed that the door did not latch (the lock was broken). I pointed this out to the front desk, and the guy who came to look at the lock immediately moved us to another--even nicer--room and apologized profusely. The air conditioner in one of the bedrooms didn't seem to be working […] quite right, but I was reluctant to complain again, so we happily settled in to our new room and went out to explore. Upon returning, we found an enormous pool of water all over the (tiled) floor of the bedroom and a steady rain dripping from the suspect air conditioner (on the ceiling). I reported this to the front office immediately, and it took a few attempts to make them understand that it was not just a little drip and someone needed to come right away. When they did finally come take a look, they immediately offered to move us again, but this time the rooms they proposed putting is in seemed like downgrades from the original and I got rather frustrated: I never want to be the difficult, demanding customer, but it had taken them over an hour to respond at all to the problem and all my daughters clothes were soaking wet (her suitcase had been on the floor in the flooded room) and it seemed to me that they might be more accommodating. Eventually they offered a really large room that they clearly considered a huge upgrade, although it had less bed space and lacked some furniture. The rest of our stay was lovely. "Tucked away in a quiet place."
Overall, pretty much satisfied. This is truly a getaway location for families with children. Some construction noise, but not too inconvenient. Water and power interruptions are the norm when additional work to add facilities to the location are in progress. Parking is a bit of a concern if rental cars are utilized by guests as there is a limited number […] of parking spaces as a ratio to the number of guest rooms. As far as dining on the premises: I would strongly suggest that current management seriously consider eliminating the mandatory 10% service fee, and the 7% tax as the prices are a bit more than local peer group amounts. The service tends to be lacking when in Thailand but the smallness of the place seems to balance it off as a trade. When you add the 17% on top of the prices, especially the alcohol beverages, the prices are too high. This information was shared to me by a departing couple from Adelaide. But, I decided to see for myself and I have to agree with their comments. Other than that be clear about any credit card deposits and requesting a copy of your card voucher on check out so as not to incur any "hidden" surprises later as they did not provide a "zero balance" portfolio on the check out after we were there for six days. "not too sovereign"
The receptionists were not very helpful and not courteous. They were all rude. We expereienced a lot of power outages and the wifi signal sucks. The rooms were too small, to think it was a family suite we got. It was also far from the main street.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
hotel was not too convenient to find esp. because they recently changed their name. the location is just okay, its not too far from town but its a little sketchy to walk around during nighttime back to the hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very Nice Place!"
A really good hotel for the price. It's nestled at the foot of the mountain a little bit back from the beach and has beautiful views of the pristine mountains and the sea. The breakfast is average, and the pool is attractive but not really practical to swim in. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating and the rooms were exceptionally large […] and beautiful. Great friendly customer service. Very clean environment. Great for homey moon couple or family vocation.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel located away from the main entertainment areas of Karon Beach but it is an easy 3-5 min walk. The pool was great and the included breakfast was very good as well. The babysitting / kids club facilities that were advertised were non existent. Kids club consists of a small, poorly furnished room some some random toys around, the parents have to […] look after the kids themselves. I have not seen it used in 11 days while we stayed there. No babysitting available - not even an external service that could be organised. The beds are rock hard - terrible. The mattresses need to be thrown out and replaced with mattresses of the appropriate standard. The Junior Suite living area is non existent - not even a coffee table or somewhere to place down a coffee or a meal (other then sitting outside). The Deluxe Suite was better with a larger living area, however the mattresses were rock hard also. Staff were generally helpful but spoke very limited English. The lady at the reception area stated that there were no rooms available to upgrade and that Junior Suite was the biggest they had on day 2 of our stay (after we complained about the lack of space in Junior Suite). Several days later I found a brochure which listed all types of apartment at the property and showed it to the reception manager. Then we were permitted to upgrade for a fee (upgrade should have been complimentary as the hotel was nearly empty). Overall - we got this hotel on 45% off sale and for the money we paid it was OK. "Perfect for family, nice green curry"
My family (wife, 2 young children) and I spent 5 nights in Phunawa in March and overall we had a good experience. The 2 bedroom suite is perfect for a family with young children with the swimming pool right outside your door. The food in the restaurant was also very good especially the green curry. I would recommend anyone staying here to rent a car […] though as it is a long walk (>15mins) to the beach and having a car provides more options for restaurants around the area and sight seeing in Phuket. Would definitely recommend and would stay here again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Nice quiet location, great views!"
Stayed at Phunawa for 3 weeks in a 2 bedroom suite. All staff were great and most helpful. On arrival, we were upgraded to a family suite (originally booked into junior suite) which was nice and more than roomy enough for a family of 4. Great location in a quiet street but only a short walk to the beach and main strip (about 10 mins).. The only problem […] we really had was with taxi or tuk-tuk drivers not knowing where it was when coming back from Patong, even tried with the old names but had to direct most of them. Some knew of Mandarava, which was opposite Phunawa...... Just tell them where the lake is, just past the new Novotel, turn left...There is a little sign on the corner but you can only see it if coming from Karon side. Would definitely recommend Phunawa. "Nice hotel in a quieter part of town"
My wife and young son splurged for the penthouse suite with its own roof top pool and sitting area. Do so and you won't be disappointed. The resort is a reasonably easy 5-10 minute walk from the beach with only a minor hill right at the end. If this sounds tough, a Tuk Tuk can comfortably get you from the township back to the resort for 200 bht ($8 […] in Jan 2014). The resort (after its renovations) is very clean, I really couldn't fault it for cleanliness anywhere in the resort. WiFi is free, but can be a bit congested, so don't rely on it solely. During our visit, the hotel was going through a name change. Thus there was a bit of a confusion finding the hotel from the airport. However, once we reached, we enjoyed our time there. "Great family holiday"
Our family recently had the pleasure of staying at the Karon Sovereign for 8 days. We found the staff to be very helpful and friendly, the food to be delicious and our room very comfortable for a family of four. The pool was gorgeous, and easily accessible and we loved finding flowers from the surrounding bushes/trees floating in it. If you don't mind […] a short walk down the hill to the beach/shopping area, then you can always catch a ride to the beach on the resorts tuk tuk. We would definitely stay again, and even with the many options available for accommodation at Karon Beach, Karon Sovereign would be our first choice. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Nice hotel, great staff, fantastic restaurant"
There was some renovation going on during our stay however there was minimal impact from a noise perspective. When renovations are completed it will look fantastic. Great food, tasty and well priced. Good kids food too. I had my 2 young children (3&2) with me and the staff were terrific in welcoming them. "Nice hotel but not close to the beach"
If you want to be walking distance/close to the beach, do not choose this hotel. It is on an obscure, bumpy, steep road (which our driver from airport could not find - took an extra hour to get there at 1 am!) in the hills. If you suffer any physical ailments or fitness issues forget about it as their are stairs everywhere and the walk from the main […] street to the resort will test you. Currently there is major renovations taking place to the dining, bar area which is set in the centre of the lagoon pool. Our room overlooked this, so we continually had numerous workers -20 with electrical tools, noise for the whole stay. Not to mention them being distracted by my daughters sun baking or in the pool - not very pleasant at all to be continually stared at. I understood from the manager that this is low season so repairs/renovations take place, but it would be nice to know this prior to booking, which I did 7 months in advance. We stayed 10 nights, then checked in to the Ramada for the last 4 nights which is in a great position, great resort, opposite the beach, easy access to restaurants, shopping, massage etc. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

One of the only places we could find where a family of five could stay without having to book 2 rooms. Very nice new hotel although not happy to give over credit card details on arrival even though payment had already been made through Expedia for our stay. Staff very helpful and friendly. "Karon Sovereign All Suites Resort"
The Karon Sovereign met all of our expectations and holiday needs. It was a nice, large suite with two good size bedrooms, an ensuite, living area and kitchenette. We were told that the Karon Sovereign had just changed names and noted a lot of work going on to spruce the place up. The staff are friendly, many don't speak much English, but the ones who […] do are more than happy to help with some simply Thai phrases and words. Karon Beach area itself was great for our family. We didn't want to expose the kids to the "full on" Thai experience in Bangkok or Patong, so Karon was a great slightly less frantic alternative. The beach at Karon was very nice to look at, but had a awesome rip and could be quite rough and there are no life guards available here. The resort itself is set back about two blocks from the beach and main street. Whilst we enjoyed being forced to walk this distance each day (usually a couple of times), I can see how some people would like to be closer. The resort did offer a shuttle twice a day and there is a tuk tuk station not far, however we preferred to walk. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
A nice and relaxing place to stay. Located within walking distance from Karon beach and not far by taxi to Patong. Great swimming pool and layout. "Karon All Suites good budget family accom"
Karon Sovreign is a good family resort however it is small and a little bit out dated. We stayed in a penthouse suite and found the room occupied the entire top floor of the building we were in our children had their own room and we had our own room with a large bed which was very comfortable, the was a kitchn, lounge area, PACKS OF ROOM!. The room […] is in need of a renovation as décor is out dated a cupboards stick and don't open properly but it is comfortable and served our needs. Cons for the hotel are that 1. Services at the hotel are a bit lacking as it is small, there is only one restaurant (Great food however# 2. No gym 3. the pool is fairly small 4. Major con room water pressure is terrible and we had four water outages during our stay 5. Location is a bit if an issue as with a family you have to taxi it into Karon #200 baht each way) as the hotel is located up a hill and is to far for kids to walk although adults could walk it. "Good stay for families"
Hotel is great for families. Rooms are very spacious and kept clean. Food for buffet breakfast was good too.The only drawback is the distance to town and beach. It cost 400 baht tro go to Patong and even short distance in a Tuk Tuk was fairly expensive.Genuine Expedia guest review
Service staff are friendly. Water stoppage happened twice, dirty water flowed out for a period of time. This was due to the construction site beside. It will be recommended for a group of friends or family, not ideal for couples.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Definitely worth a stay."
Arrived late on a Sunday night during the monsoon season. The guy at reception drove us around the back of the hotel so we could be closer to our room. He did this, getting quite wet in the process even though he could have just directed us on how to get to our room. This kind of service was emblematic of our 12 day stay there. The staff were always […] smiling and greeting us. With three young children (9,7,3) the very large horseshoe shaped pool--usually only with my family using it--was particularly welcome. The buffet breakfast consists of cereals, fruit, breads (toast and croissants), cold cut ham and cheese, yogurt, eggs cooked on the spot as you like them (boiled, omelette, fried etc) bacon and a dish that differed everyday (baked beans, fried rice, potato). Juice and your preferred coffee (long black, cappuccino) is also included. We didn't use the restaurant for lunch or dinner although the menu looked tempting and reasonably priced. We had a junior suite which has two rooms and two bathrooms. The floors are marble and unfortunately my wife slipped on the wet floor so please take care as the water wasn't visible on the light coloured marble. The beds are comfortable: with room service making them up everyday I'm not sure whether the sheets are changed everyday although I know that the towels are replaced everyday with five bottles of water given as well. The hotel is 900 metres from the beach and 1km to the main street in Karon: a nice walk we did a few times daily. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"A Great Hotel at Karon Beach"
The hotel was excellent and the staff were always smiling. Beautiful swimming pool and restaurant/bar. Our 2 bedroom Junior Suite was also very good. The only negative as the noisy air-conditioning which we had to switch off during the night. Can't complain about anything else! The walk to the beach was about 10 minutes and downhill. For our family […] with two boys, 16 and 13 years old the return trip was no trouble but it could be for older people. There are taxis and tuk tuk's available, though, to take you back. The hotel also had a shuttle bus leaving the hotel at 10.30am with a pickup at 3.30pm. I would recommend this hotel to my friends. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Not for families - very interior from road"
The hotel is very far from Karon beach and not a walking distance. We went in with high hopes but it is not child friendly. It is more like serviced apartment. We were travelling with kids and the restaurant in the hotel is merely a cafeteria. The breakfast is average and no facility after 10:30. One day while returning from the fantasia show, we had […] to just sleep without food. Taxi drivers even don't know where the hotel is. It is very disappointing experience and I won't recommend anyone to stay here. I learned that with family (kids/father mother), you should stick to the big branded names like novotel, hilton, meridian etc.. "Good family holiday place"
Spent six nights here, overall a nice place, although beds were very hard. Pool was great and breakfast each day was good. We had in room dining a couple of times and it was really nice. Weren't too fussed on the smell from the water treatment plant right behind the hotel although this was worst on days 1 and 2. The walk down the hill wasn't so bad […] and if you don't want to walk back up you just hop in a tuk tuk for 200 baht. The beach didn't interest us as it didn't compare to our beaches here in Oz. Wouldn't stay again only because I prefer to be a little closer to the action and love to walk around town at night. Lots of places to eat and shop at and especially loved the massages, go for the oil much more relaxing, not thai. Generally a nice place to holiday. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Could be better..."
The Resort Pros: Good place if you are looking to spend quality time with your family and friends as the resort is tucked away nicely away from the crowd (a 10-15mins walk to Karon Beach). Great pool and we spent a good deal of our time having fun in it. Most of the staffs in the resort are friendly and always looking after your needs. Cons: A sewage […] plant at the back of the resort which occasionally emitting out pungent odour and the smell is more frequent and stronger during the mid day. The smell was not an issue while we were in our rooms. Thai food in the hotel was reasonably priced for a resort but the quality was of average. We were left with a bad taste and left us with a lot to ponders after we were served with a spoilt mango sticky rice for our room service. One timing for complimentary ride to karon beach at 1030am The Room: Penthouse suites Pros: Big area and clean Met expectation for a resort room Cons: Inconsistent supply of hot water for the shower despite regulating the tap. Got scalded on a few occasions as if there is a sudden surge with the supply of hot water and sometimes it was just cold water with the tap adjusted for hot water. Balconies of our rooms are directly linked to the corridor without any barriers. We have to keep our balcony door locked at all time even when we were in the rooms. Look out for the sharp corners of the coffee table as one of the rooms has it fully exposed and we got ourselves a few scratches when navigating round it. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Dewa Resort - Average"
I took my mother and daughter for a 5 day stay stay at the Dewa Resort, overall it was ok. I was surprised that a resort which was only just over 12mths old was already tired looking. Our room which was a Family Suite (2bdrms 2 baths) was very tired, granite bench tops very scratched, walls/paint very marked and grubby looking. Kitchen cupboards needed […] a good clean, there were splashes and runs of possibly milk on them. Mirror on the cupboard door in bed 2 had fingerprints on it. Overall just grubby. The beds were the worst beds I have ever slept in! and I've travelled extensively, they were so bad I ended up sleeping on the couch which was more comfortable, we organised another doona which mum slept on top of, just to make it a little more comfortable for her. When I looked at pics on Dewa they showed a couch and easy chair in the lounge, we only had a 3 seater couch, so there really wasn't alot of having your own space for a room which is supposed to cater for 4 adults! When we went for a swim there was thick mould around the inner rim of the pool and also where the waterfall is into the lower section of the pool, it was really off putting and didn't really want to swim in there after seeing this (yuk) Also had several problems with air conditioning not cooling properly, which in the 2nd bedroom was never really resolved. On a positive note, the food was excellent, the staff very friendly and extremely polite and helpful, particularly the gentlemen. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
