The hotel is a 15 minute walk to the beach and 30 minute walk to karon market. They do have shuttle service to the beach that runs at 10 am, 11am, and 12pm and only 3pm as a pick up time to get back to the hotel. They are doing renovations so it can be noisy during the day. The room is nice and has a kitchen where you can cook to save some money. However, […] the room electricity keeps turning off during the night. Staff are very helpful and friendly. Every tuesday there is a night market at the temple ground where you can buy souvenirs at a much cheaper price compared to the souvenir stores that you will see. There's also a beach night market every night where you can eat some good food. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great for groups of travelling friends"
Finding a place for three guest was a nightmare, everyone wanted to charge an outrageous "extra person fee" even for rooms with two beds (1 couple and a friend). But this place was found and all was great, two bedrooms each with its own air con controls...fantastic! Stayed 3 nights. Staff highly attentive. The only real con is the fact that the area […] reeks of sewerage (the street is lined with covered sewer holes) so walking from and to the hotel is an experience for the nostrils. "Nice place; very nice people."
We were delighted with our first room, and were just settling in when I noticed that the door did not latch (the lock was broken). I pointed this out to the front desk, and the guy who came to look at the lock immediately moved us to another--even nicer--room and apologized profusely. The air conditioner in one of the bedrooms didn't seem to be working […] quite right, but I was reluctant to complain again, so we happily settled in to our new room and went out to explore. Upon returning, we found an enormous pool of water all over the (tiled) floor of the bedroom and a steady rain dripping from the suspect air conditioner (on the ceiling). I reported this to the front office immediately, and it took a few attempts to make them understand that it was not just a little drip and someone needed to come right away. When they did finally come take a look, they immediately offered to move us again, but this time the rooms they proposed putting is in seemed like downgrades from the original and I got rather frustrated: I never want to be the difficult, demanding customer, but it had taken them over an hour to respond at all to the problem and all my daughters clothes were soaking wet (her suitcase had been on the floor in the flooded room) and it seemed to me that they might be more accommodating. Eventually they offered a really large room that they clearly considered a huge upgrade, although it had less bed space and lacked some furniture. The rest of our stay was lovely. "Tucked away in a quiet place."
Overall, pretty much satisfied. This is truly a getaway location for families with children. Some construction noise, but not too inconvenient. Water and power interruptions are the norm when additional work to add facilities to the location are in progress. Parking is a bit of a concern if rental cars are utilized by guests as there is a limited number […] of parking spaces as a ratio to the number of guest rooms. As far as dining on the premises: I would strongly suggest that current management seriously consider eliminating the mandatory 10% service fee, and the 7% tax as the prices are a bit more than local peer group amounts. The service tends to be lacking when in Thailand but the smallness of the place seems to balance it off as a trade. When you add the 17% on top of the prices, especially the alcohol beverages, the prices are too high. This information was shared to me by a departing couple from Adelaide. But, I decided to see for myself and I have to agree with their comments. Other than that be clear about any credit card deposits and requesting a copy of your card voucher on check out so as not to incur any "hidden" surprises later as they did not provide a "zero balance" portfolio on the check out after we were there for six days. "not too sovereign"
The receptionists were not very helpful and not courteous. They were all rude. We expereienced a lot of power outages and the wifi signal sucks. The rooms were too small, to think it was a family suite we got. It was also far from the main street.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
hotel was not too convenient to find esp. because they recently changed their name. the location is just okay, its not too far from town but its a little sketchy to walk around during nighttime back to the hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very Nice Place!"
A really good hotel for the price. It's nestled at the foot of the mountain a little bit back from the beach and has beautiful views of the pristine mountains and the sea. The breakfast is average, and the pool is attractive but not really practical to swim in. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating and the rooms were exceptionally large […] and beautiful. "Good compact resort but spoilt by bad odour"
Good compact resort but spoilt by bad odour from recycling / effluent treatment plant behind the resort. All suites resort suitable for families with children. The 2 bedroom units are spacious with kitchen and a living room. Breakfast is the usual and the swimming pool is good to look at but not too wide. The pricing offers great value for money if […] you're willing to ignore the bad smell that comes from the recycling / effluent treatment plant behind the resort. The smell is detectable in the outdoor areas and not inside the air conditioned rooms. The bad smell is stronger at times when the plant is operational (occurs multiple times during the day) and in the rooms at the back of the resort. The staff clearly understand the issue and were good enough to relocate us to a bigger and a better located room near the pool. If you're planning to spend all day at the beach and use the rooms for sleeping in air-conditioning, then the resort offers great value for families. If you're planning to laze around the resort pool or your own balcony, the smell might bother you a bit. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Nice hotel, great service, lovely pool, nice rooms, easy 15min walk to the beach. Three down sides: the beds are quite firm (like most hotels though really); we booked for 5 people but the pricing and bedding only included enough for 4 people(!) so we had to pay an extra $30/night for an extra bed; sometimes the smells of the local neighbourhood was […] a bit on the nose... "great stay with great rates"
Staff were wonderful, resort is great but showing a few signs of age (even though it's only a few years old). Pool is great, food was good, location is good close enough to walk to beach yet far away enough from the hustle of Karon that you feel safe and secluded. Will stay in a roof top spa suite next time. I walked down to and along the beach each […] morning and back for a swim in the pool in time for the buffet breakfast. Only thing missing was a gym of some sort. Really enjoyed our few days at Phunawa Resort. It was not high season so the resort was not crowded -was very peaceful and relaxing. Staff were excellent-friendly and helpful and the family suite we had was large and clean, with kitchen facilities. The whole place was quite picturesque as the restaurant and rooftop bar was in the middle, surrounded […] by the pool and spa and the suites were around the pool. There was also a massage centre on the premises which provided fantastic massage services, manicures, braiding etc. It was a short walk away from Karon Beach but there was also a transfer there each day if you did not want to walk. A short walk away was the local markets with plenty of restaurants, shops, tailors etc from which to choose. Taxis readily available at the resort for longer trips. All in all, a great resort! "Good Hotel, Great Staff"
We stayed in this hotel for a fortnight in July 2014. A grand suite for two adults and a 14yr old boy was very comfortable. The general condition was good. A few small points let it down (over painting on shower cubicles, door frames etc) let it down a little, but overall the accommodation was to a high standard. Our room was cleaned every day with […] new towels and four bottles of complimentary water. The hotel also supply towels for use around the pool, which can be taken to the beach. There is a signing in and out honesty system, which is good and negates the need to take your own beach towels. The staff were brilliant. Always happy, polite and willing to help. We ate in the restaurant a lunchtime a few times. The food was of a good standard, if a little more expensive that the norm for restaurants in the area. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the centre of Karon (once you've found the short cut). This means that it is lovely and quiet around the pool or on your balcony. We spent nearly 2 weeks at Phunawa and had the most amazing holiday. Very relaxing. Great family resort. Doing it up at the moment to make it even better. The room we had was beautiful. Beds were comfortable. The pool was great. "Nice hotel and great location"
I was really impressed with this hotel, it was clean and the staff were friendly and the air conditioning worked beautifully. The location I found to be great as it was nowhere near as busy as Patong and the Karon area still had a nice beach and shops, be mindful though if you are at Karon in the off season the beach is not safe for swimming and you […] are best to catch a Tuk Tuk to Kata beach (this is a great beach for young kids). Nice resort. Kind staffs. Really enjoy. But bit of walking to the main beach.Genuine Expedia guest review
Hotel located away from the main entertainment areas of Karon Beach but it is an easy 3-5 min walk. The pool was great and the included breakfast was very good as well. The babysitting / kids club facilities that were advertised were non existent. Kids club consists of a small, poorly furnished room some some random toys around, the parents have to […] look after the kids themselves. I have not seen it used in 11 days while we stayed there. No babysitting available - not even an external service that could be organised. The beds are rock hard - terrible. The mattresses need to be thrown out and replaced with mattresses of the appropriate standard. The Junior Suite living area is non existent - not even a coffee table or somewhere to place down a coffee or a meal (other then sitting outside). The Deluxe Suite was better with a larger living area, however the mattresses were rock hard also. Staff were generally helpful but spoke very limited English. The lady at the reception area stated that there were no rooms available to upgrade and that Junior Suite was the biggest they had on day 2 of our stay (after we complained about the lack of space in Junior Suite). Several days later I found a brochure which listed all types of apartment at the property and showed it to the reception manager. Then we were permitted to upgrade for a fee (upgrade should have been complimentary as the hotel was nearly empty). Overall - we got this hotel on 45% off sale and for the money we paid it was OK. "Perfect for family, nice green curry"
My family (wife, 2 young children) and I spent 5 nights in Phunawa in March and overall we had a good experience. The 2 bedroom suite is perfect for a family with young children with the swimming pool right outside your door. The food in the restaurant was also very good especially the green curry. I would recommend anyone staying here to rent a car […] though as it is a long walk (>15mins) to the beach and having a car provides more options for restaurants around the area and sight seeing in Phuket. "Nice quiet location, great views!"
Stayed at Phunawa for 3 weeks in a 2 bedroom suite. All staff were great and most helpful. On arrival, we were upgraded to a family suite (originally booked into junior suite) which was nice and more than roomy enough for a family of 4. Great location in a quiet street but only a short walk to the beach and main strip (about 10 mins).. The only problem […] we really had was with taxi or tuk-tuk drivers not knowing where it was when coming back from Patong, even tried with the old names but had to direct most of them. Some knew of Mandarava, which was opposite Phunawa...... Just tell them where the lake is, just past the new Novotel, turn left...There is a little sign on the corner but you can only see it if coming from Karon side. Would definitely recommend Phunawa. "Nice hotel in a quieter part of town"
My wife and young son splurged for the penthouse suite with its own roof top pool and sitting area. Do so and you won't be disappointed. The resort is a reasonably easy 5-10 minute walk from the beach with only a minor hill right at the end. If this sounds tough, a Tuk Tuk can comfortably get you from the township back to the resort for 200 bht ($8 […] in Jan 2014). The resort (after its renovations) is very clean, I really couldn't fault it for cleanliness anywhere in the resort. WiFi is free, but can be a bit congested, so don't rely on it solely. During our visit, the hotel was going through a name change. Thus there was a bit of a confusion finding the hotel from the airport. However, once we reached, we enjoyed our time there. "Great family holiday"
Our family recently had the pleasure of staying at the Karon Sovereign for 8 days. We found the staff to be very helpful and friendly, the food to be delicious and our room very comfortable for a family of four. The pool was gorgeous, and easily accessible and we loved finding flowers from the surrounding bushes/trees floating in it. If you don't mind […] a short walk down the hill to the beach/shopping area, then you can always catch a ride to the beach on the resorts tuk tuk. We would definitely stay again, and even with the many options available for accommodation at Karon Beach, Karon Sovereign would be our first choice. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Nice hotel, great staff, fantastic restaurant"
There was some renovation going on during our stay however there was minimal impact from a noise perspective. When renovations are completed it will look fantastic. Great food, tasty and well priced. "Nice hotel but not close to the beach"
If you want to be walking distance/close to the beach, do not choose this hotel. It is on an obscure, bumpy, steep road (which our driver from airport could not find - took an extra hour to get there at 1 am!) in the hills. If you suffer any physical ailments or fitness issues forget about it as their are stairs everywhere and the walk from the main […] street to the resort will test you. Currently there is major renovations taking place to the dining, bar area which is set in the centre of the lagoon pool. Our room overlooked this, so we continually had numerous workers -20 with electrical tools, noise for the whole stay. Not to mention them being distracted by my daughters sun baking or in the pool - not very pleasant at all to be continually stared at. I understood from the manager that this is low season so repairs/renovations take place, but it would be nice to know this prior to booking, which I did 7 months in advance. We stayed 10 nights, then checked in to the Ramada for the last 4 nights which is in a great position, great resort, opposite the beach, easy access to restaurants, shopping, massage etc. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
