The room is tiny if you stay in traditional bunk room. If you have a larger bag, you probably don't have any room to even stand in the room. However, you are experiencing history while you are there. It's small but very clean and modernized.

Staff were excellent. Location was amazing, 2 min walking from SoHo. Bar was fantastic. Very safe. Great experience to be in a room that housed so many of NYC's history before. Front door security offered to help with my bag up the 3 flights of stairs, which was very nice, since when I lived in my 6th floor NYC apt I had to take it up myself. Minuses: […] guests in rooms with double beds were noisy; either talking constantly or being intimate, and you can hear everything because of the open ceilings. Front desk staff said the next day to immediately alert them next time and they will handle it. Also, showers were all marble, really pretty, but hot water ran out after 10 min, so shower quickly. Great place to crash for the weekend I would suggest a full size cabin/bed original cabin is too small barely enuff room to turn around. The only negative is they need someone/security to stop the loud talking ppl, if you want to talk like you're on the street then go outside!

If your idea of adventure is leaving the house without an umbrella, this hotel is not for you. However, if you like a little adventure, go for it! The Bowery was clean and safe. It is my no means the Ritz-Carton. It is a cross between college dorms, sleep away camp, and belowdecks on a ship. I got a cabin--a one person room--and it was quite small, […] but fine. Yes, the walls don't go the whole way to the ceiling, but there is lattice across the top of your room to provide privacy. Yes, they give you earplugs when you check in. I didn't need the earplugs for the noise inside the hotel (everyone was extremely polite and quiet) I needed the earplugs for the street noise outside! Yes you share a bathroom but there are 3 stalls, 3 showers, and 3 sinks. There is WiFi, a lounge with TV where you can meet all kinds of cool people, and a small vending machine/snack machine. I needed a safe room to stay while I explored New York, and this was fine. I would stay again. Read more

As a 24 year old traveling to the city for 3 days, this was the perfect place to stay. It's really just a bed to sleep in. I'm 5'10" so my head was touching one wall and my feet were touching the other; the rooms are tiny. However, after exhausting days, the was a sanctuary. I would definitely stay here again.

The Bowery House was great. I stayed in the original cabin room for 2 nights. I chose the cabin because I was traveling with a large bag as well as my computer and wanted to know my stuff would be safe and locked away when I left for the day. I was also in NYC on business and wanted the privacy, I'm sure the bunks would be great if you are looking to […] meet new people or traveling with a group. Make sure you use the provided earplugs! Everybody was very respectful and didn't use phones or play music in the cabin areas but it of course is not completely silent, there are foot steps and snoring but the earplugs, if used correctly, block it all out. Everything was clean and comfortable. Showers were great, no line and always hot water. I got in much earlier than expected and was able to check in early without a problem. Great location as well. I am 5'8'' but if you are any taller I would suggest the next size up in the cabin (full cabin I think). Everything is exactly as described and pictured on the site. Read more

This hotel would be ideal for a solo traveller with no luggage. It is in nice location, but has 3 flights of stairs, and no elevator. I was charged to store my bags for the day, although you cant leave your bags there all day if you arrive early for check-in. The room was the smallest room I have had after spending 3 months in youth hostels that is […] quite amazing. I had to keep one of my bags on the tiny bed with me. Even a hostel (where you get free breakfast, and more space than this and more privacy) costs half this much. The room had no ceiling so you can hear everyones alarm clock in the whole floor. The room had one reading light, it was so dim I had to use a torch to check under the bed if I had left anything behind. The shower room had no privacy whatsoever and nowhere to put your things. You hand your key in to the desk everytime you leave the building. When I left I asked the girl at the office if I should call a cab, and she advised me to hail one in the street. After attempting this for 40 minutes I was told by a passerby that it is impossible at this time because of the change in taxi shifts. Something a local would advise you about. You would think. So I missed my bus. Overall VERY disappointing, and I would not recommend this place. Read more

The other reviews on the Bowery House are accurate- it's non traditional lodging, you have to lug your suitcases up some stairs, and the rooms are more like pods than actual rooms. You can hear every peep and snore in the sleeping rooms from you neighbors, but they do provide you with earplugs. This is your classic hostel even though they don't say it in the name. There are dorm rooms and there are more private rooms. Nothing is completely private since walls don't go up all the way to the roof. However, all rooms, even dorms, need keys to enter, so strangers don't get in. Guests are not allowed, so all people are accounted for and I felt […] safe. There's quite a bit of noise from the street until very late at night, if your room faces it. That's why they give you ear plugs with your towel upon check-in. Bathroom facilities are the best I've ever seen in this type of establishment: modern & upscale. Every morning someone is washing & cleaning them. I've never had to wait long for the shower. There's a nice restaurant with nice selection of beer downstairs where you get 10% discount for staying at the hostel. The rooftop deck is also a nice place to relax if it's not raining, not too cold, or not too windy. The girls on the reception were very nice, at least to me. But every time I approached a desk, I saw people trying to make reception solve their travel problems; at the end of their shifts, that can become aggravating. I enjoyed my stay there, and it wasn't as scary as some people describe here. Subway stations are only a couple of blocks away and there're plenty things to enjoy within those couple of blocks. I wouldn't recommended this hotel if quietness is priority. The lounge area was dark and loud music and video. It had a cool club vibe. The actual room, had a darkness with street lights on the walls. I slept in a bunk bed, the metals steps made loud metal clanging noise as climb up. I have enjoyed my stay and front desk team was so helpful. I really appreciated their service. Room service if housekeeping can make beds every morning I believe guests will appreciate the service even if you stay 2 to more days because if you find your bed made you feel at home. The location was brilliant. Two subway stations (Spring Street and Prince Street) were within a five minute walk and the tourist sites of both uptown and downtown were easily accessible. The hostel provided towels and shower products which was a pleasant surprise.
