"Lovely staff, miniature room"
The staff was extremely friendly. The (shared) bathrooms were very clean as was the shower. the rooms, however, were absolutely tiny tiny tiny. There is room for a small twin bed and an overhead light and there is no ceiling. Instead, a lattice covers all the rooms. I think the rooms were 8 by 11.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Clean and stylish"
I'd have sacrificed my window for a room on the same floor as the bathrooms (I had to go down one flight), but otherwise this was a good deal. Very small rooms/beds, but clean, quality amenities, helpful staff, near nice restaurants in Little Italy and subway station to midtown. Insert your earplugs correctly and you should be fine.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Stylish for a hostel, too small to be a hotel"
Room was extraordinarily small, at 5'10 I couldn't lay in the bed without bending my knees, but I could touch all four walls at the same time. For the unaware (like me) a "cabin" is a 5ft x 6ft open-top tall cubicle of sorts. There were a dozen or so across an open floor. This means, when someone rolls over 4 cabins down, you hear it. If they turn on […] their reading light, lights up the whole space. When the front door (3 floors down) slams at 2:30, 3:00 and 4am you really, really hear it.The lobby and common areas interior is nicely decorated, stylish and appears to be newly renovated. There were partial "vacate room" notices on the door pertaining to a couple rooms, but everywhere seemed very clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. The entire area is gentrifying, late night walking is much safer than it first looks, still bit of a hike when going uptown. Access to the Village, Little Italy and LES is pretty good. "Good for a budget if your ex-army"
It was a bed for a few nights, open dorm effect Inseparate tiny cabins, need air plugs as some guests inconsiderate at night and talk loud in confines of dorm area. so if you are ex military like me you are used to this. It was good for money compared to other NY alternatives and location suited me. No lift so if you have heavy luggage, not ideal to […] carry up 3 flights of stairs. "The complimentary earplugs made it okay"
it's a cheap place to stay in the east village so I can't complain. Better than a regular hostel because of the privacy of each cabin. Very noisy but there were earplugs on my pillow. TIP: Request a cabin on the same floor as your bathroom. I hated having to walk the maze of cabins/stairs to get to the bathroom.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good location, but comfort isn't happening"
It's cheap, but you'd expect at least a regular sized twin bed. Mine was short in a room that measured 6 ft by 4 ft. It's noisy, and while they supply earplugs, that didn't help. If you're young and need a crash pad, this is the place. But others are well worth $20 to $30 more easily.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
It was comfortable sleep with the ear plugs and I had a great shower in the morning.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

It was a convienient location to stay. I was able to travel around solo to many places, The room was so small, and it was not closed off from everyone else. I would like a room with more privacy. "Basic but affordable"
Very affordable for Manhattan, I found my cabin was clean and perfectly adequate for sleeping and lying around. Be warned however that the individual cabins have very little space and you can hear everything the people in the cabins near you do, so if you need a bit of room and/or are a light sleeper, you may want to reconsider whether this place is […] for you. The Bowery House was the perfect hotel for a New York/Manhattan vacation. My son and I were allowed to drop off our bags about 10am while we took in some lower Manhattan sites. "good choice for a weekend in NYC"
Excellent location. If you need a hostel just to have a shower and sleep after exploring New York it is a good choice. The rooms are extremely small, basically it is a cubicle not a real room, there is space only for the bed and your luggage (true) and can be noisy sometimes. Internet is fast and reliable. It was NOT what I had expected! It was a box with a bed in open to ALL noise and people around me. In my cell I was given a towel and ear plugs!!! It was really more like a hostel than a HOTEL! The only good thing about it was that it was clean - but very low lighting as the room has NO cline/open to all the noise of people around you. "Too much expensive, considering size, area, etc..."
I consider it is a relatively high-price considering mainly the area of the hotel, the type of rooms and the facilities in a general way. "Uncomfortable, but decently priced"
If you are looking for an inexpensive place to simply lay your head down at night while in NYC, then this is perfect. I would not recommend anyone to stay here if they are claustrophobic! The 'room' is small. I am about 5'5" and the bed was not long enough! Uncomfortable room/bed. Bathrooms are VERY clean, though. Can easily hear what's going on around you. Subsequently, everyone has to maintain quiet for group comfort. Granted, it was pretty quiet except for the guy snoring next to me extremely loudly. "Cozy and Convenient"
The rooms in The Bowery House are quite cozy (see: tiny), but if you don't mind small spaces then this would be a good place to stay. My room was clean and so were communal bathrooms. They have great floral scented shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Just make sure that you bring shower shoes if you plan to use the showers! There's high-speed wifi […] throughout the hotel and a nice lounge area with a television and comfy couches. The people who worked the front desk were friendly and helpful. All of that being said, the best part about this hotel is its location. There are two subway stations within a 5 to 7-minute walk and plenty of shops and eateries to visit on foot. In fact, The Bowery House even gives you a small map guide. Some of my favorite places included: Little Cupcake Bakeshop, McNally Jackson Bookstore/Café, and the New Museum of Contemporary Art (all within walking distance). "Convenient location & Great service in NOLITA"
A climb up the up the old marble steps and walk through a metal door you are greeted by a industrial motif. Where iron meets a leather chesterfield couch and your path is paved with concrete. The hotel clerk was courteous and prompt on finding my room considering I was 3 hours early for check in but the room was ready. A short jaunt up the another flight […] of stair brought me to a maze of corridors that was easy to navigate. The hallways to the cabins where narrow and dimly lit but among the wood paneling and lights that swung up ahead I found my room. A little room just enough room for my suitcase and I. The ceiling was nothing but lattice a very unique approach to decor. Eager to explore I went to the bathrooms where marble and fine fixtures adored the bathroom. This was luxury you wouldn't find in any hostel. Last was my stop on the rooftop and to be honest I had little hope of being impressed. Opening that loud steel door and the sun hitting my eyes adjusted to a very nice rooftop. The fake grass and plastic furniture was in very good condition but best of all it was clean like the rest of the hotel. I was here for two days and will be coming back many more times. For those of you looking for a new place to stay or first time staying in the City I recommend this hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great bargain Great staff"
The rooms are small, but very clean and fun. Staff is great. I forgot to extend my stay by a night and the hotel sold out, but the staff let me sleep on the couch until a room opened up the next day. Very cool.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
There was a guy on the reception who looked like he worked there and then didn't. He was staring and standing next to me, it was weird. I assumed he worked there because the receptionist and him were talking. There was another guy downstairs. He was cool overall. One of the girls at the main desk just played dumb when I told her the internet wasn't […] working. She was implying it was my phone, then my computer and then saying everybody else seems to have connection. So the internet connection there, not very reliable. This is a hostel and expect no more, someone you can crash, a bed and a good shower. Looks nice, but don't take your girlfriend there. Go to a better place a little farther away if needed. It will be much worth it when you see space and privacy are essential. There is no actual roof and the walls don't protect you from any noise. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

The Cabin rooms don't have ceilings and you can hear everything. There was an option to book a bed in a dorm or a cabin. I chose a cabin. The cabin is like a dorm bed but with walls but no ceilings. You hear everything. I have booked similar places in the past. They are much much nicer and offers significantly more privacy in both the rooms and the […] bathrooms. "Can't beat the price, but understand..."
While reading this review, keep in mind the purpose of my trip to NYC was to see the city on the cheap, not spend a lot of time in my room. With that in mind... For the price, you can't beat the location. If you just need a place to crash after a long day walking and touring the city, this will meet your needs. However, understand exactly what you're […] getting. The "single cabin" rooms are large enough to fit a bed, a small side table, and a place to stand. To put it in perspective, I stand 5'11'' tall and while laying on the bed, I could easily touch all four walls at once. The condition of the room reflected the lower price point, but it was clean and nothing to make a fuss over. The ceiling is made of lattice fence material so your room may not be as dark or quiet as you would like if you're a light sleeper. (think snoring or people talking on cellphones) The rest of the facilities were far above average. The bathroom (shared by the whole floor) was done in black/white marble and was surgically clean. The showers were hot and soap/shampoo were provided. You had to be buzzed in from the street by the front desk and at night there was a doorman so random people wouldn't wander in. The staff was great, always helpful and polite. In summary, you get what you pay for: a no frills, barebones place to sleep. It's clean and safe but don't think about room service or someone to make your bed. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Funky, clean, located well."
Facility This place is funky, clean, located well, and good for meeting other travelers. Got a sense of what it may have been like living in ‘The City’ in the early 1900’s as a new immigrant, or construction worker. Cool experience. The rooftop astroturf garden is a hip version of the Brady Bunch’s yard, with great street scene watching at night. Fun […] way to observe the city in a peaceful environment. Cabins Note that the ‘cabins’ have a lattice ceiling, meaning that you can hear everyone else because the cabin is not totally sealed off. This was not an issue as ear plugs were provided, and it seemed that *most* other guests were respectful of keeping noise levels down when in the sleeping area. ** one person’s alarm went off several times, when it seemed they were not there to silence it, so all had the pleasure of waking up to a droning cell phone alarm over & over until the person returned to their cabin. The common bathroom was clean every time I used it. Would have preferred more hooks for hanging toiletries bag and towel though. If possible, would have been nice to have toilet in separate room from showers and sinks- but because of age of building, and limited space, this may not be possible. Staff was super helpful, professional & friendly. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great location in the heart of the lower east side"
Hostel are great if you are traveling alone since you get to meet new people. My roommates were from Brazil, Canada, and France. The room needed more lockers. Don't forget to bring your own lock. They are not provided by the hotel. The walls between dormitories are not insulated and are 3 or 4 feet shy of the ceiling, so you can hear every person in […] the hotel snoring. The hotel does provide ear plugs which worked for me, but I am a heavy sleeper and was exhausted after walking through the city for 16+ hrs. The restrooms are small and dark. It hard to tell how clean they are. The beds were comfortable and sheets were nice. The bath products were nice also. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Better than a Hostel!"
The place was fine. I read some reviews and really, for the price...you can not complain. The place was very cute, clean and convenient. Yes, you stay in a cabin so you hear EVERYTHING, but compared to a hostel, at least you have the privacy of 4 walls. The only bad thing but that is not the hotels fault is that in morning as people are getting ready […] to leave they ARE LOUD. They forget that some people may still be sleeping. I mean some people went out of their way to slam doors. But oh well. The staff was very helpful & courteous. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hotel in Midtown New York"
Okay, so calling this a Hotel is a stretch. It's a Hostel. Their cheapest rate is a bunk in a room full of people. If you are into Hostel and backpacking then this is a place for you. If you just looking for a place for you to lay down your head, couldn't care less about the convenient of the hotel such as bellboy or a concierge, this is a place for […] you. I mean, this place is amazingly cheap for where it's. It's next to China Town and Little Italy. Finding a cheap place to eat is not a problem. It's 2 blocks away from Metro so that pretty much open the rest of the city to you. There are tons of local bars and hangout places nearby so it's anything but boring. For this price in this location? amazing. For the Con. Okay, so the place is fairly clean but it still leave a lot of things to be desire for. For one thing, there is no room service. Also, you can use a locker with your own lock, but the locker is so small, it's useless. Trust is a major thing here. Noises for instant is a big con for this place. They gave you complimentary ear plugs which is a nice touch but should ring a bell for you. I mean, it's basically it's a hostel. Oh, you share bathrooms with the whole floor in case i wasn't clear on the Hostel part. That's it. It's nice if you travel alone. But definitely not a place you will want to bring your GF for a romantic getaway. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Not bad location; no privacy!"
BoweryHouse is located on a convenient location. Had no issue walking to subway stations to get to wherever I needed to. There were also plenty of restaurants&bars in a walking distance. Worst part of the stay was the lack of privacy. I stayed @ a private room w/ a bed and a drawer, rather than a dorm, but the rooms have no closed ceiling and you can […] literally hear everything that anyone is doing. Then there are those 1-2 people who seem to be less considerate of others. The room was very small- just enough room for a bed, a drawer. I am 5'6-7 and it was JUST enough for the length of the bed. I feel very bad for anyone taller b/c I know that not only they would be taller than the bed, the end of the bed is a wall, meaning I guess they would have to scrouch to sleep. All bathrooms are shared. Facility itself is nice but again, the lack of privacy issue comes up. It's very small and hard to move around. Some positives for this place are the location and everything besides the room itself. The staffs were friendly and they also have a nice common room. There is also the rooftop where you're allowed to smoke. I met few cool people while up there and it's just a nice place to hang out. 1 thing that I would suggest is that there's so much space @ the garden which are not being utilized. I think many who visit hostels are open to meeting new people and it would be cool if the large garden space was better utilized to faciliate this better Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Great place to stay, even if it was only overnight. The staff were so friendly and helpful (especially carrying my giant suitcase up and down the staircase for me!). "Bargain hotel (for NYC) would disappoint elsewhere"
Just to be clear, I am not comparing my stay to a traditional hotel with private room and bathroom. I realize NYC real estate is expensive. I could not have stayed in NYC if not for this hostel. It wasn't the cheapest hostel, but it looked the best on the computer. Having said that, I was neither impressed nor disappointed. Despite automatic air fresheners […] spritzing the whole building, the bathrooms smelled of mildew and the rooms smelled like dirty laundry. Even though the average guest age was around 25, it was very quiet inside the hostel. The noise from the street was a different story. Definitely wear the free earplugs. There are lockers in the rooms, but you must bring your own lock. I saw no other guests use the lockers. I would describe the hostel as safe and the guests/staff courteous.
