I chose this hotel because I wanted to be in a more remote countryside location. This place did not dissapoint. We had a beautiful view from our room and the breakfast room. It was also not too far away from some small towns for food and activities. The room was comfortable and clean though the bed was a little too soft for us. With the exception of that, everything else was wonderful. The breakfast was also very good and they had options. Something I was very apreciative for as the full English breakfast is a bit heavy for me in the morning. Owners were very nice and helpful with great suggestions for food and driving directions. Would recomend this location to others and we plan to stay here again.

The Howbeck is perfect in every way - from the four-poster bed to the amazing breakfast to the complimentary bedside sherry - you can't ask for more. The staff is delightful and very helpful, making dinner arrangements and providing weary travellers with tea in the lounge. The facility is very well-kept and beautiful. There are many properties to choose from but I'd stay at the Howbeck again in a heart-beat.

As an American, I first have to get past the sticker shock of traveling anywhere in the U.K. This is really true in popular areas like the English Lake Country. This hotel was a good location for us — good service, food, parking and easy accessibility. But like many U.K. accommodations the rooms are small, 1950's furniture with inadequate room plugs, and no in-room wifi. We'd return, but only because other affordable choices are limited. It's clearly an upscale B&B area.

Spent the weekend at the Patterdale Hotel to celebrate my birthday. The location and views are fantastic. The food was excellent and staff very pleasant.... The hotel may only be officially a 2* hotel, but the experience we had was anything but, I have stayed in 4* hotels that I didn't rate as good. Really enjoyed our 4 night stay here , and a wonderful location , although it is a little out of the way and not mich within walking distance after dinner ( and a few drinks! ) the hotel bar sold excellent real ale though and the local pub only 2 minutes walk was very good also.We opted for half board which was essential due to the above , and the food […] was excellent , but the only issue was the slightly rushed service with no pause within the 3 courses, although the hotel was very busy .Our original room allocation was at the rear of the hotel overlooking the kitchen yard and extractor pipe and quite noisy , we requested an alternative and given keys for 2 other rooms and selected a family room which was very good with a lovely view, excellent customer service for that. The hotel is showing some signs of wear and tear , with carpets in corridors slightly threadbare but parts seem to have been recently refurbished and our room did have that "new carpet " smell , keep up the good work. we took elderly parents for the wkend 4-6th nov. we had a lovely time . food was very good . entertainment excellent.. staff very nice. room was a little on the small side but we weren't in it very much.
