Hotel Columbia - Palermo

This hotel is in a very sketchy neighborhood. Although it was about half and hour walk to the station, the surroundings towards that area did not make us feel safe. Also, it is deep inside an alley that looks very scary, full of abandoned buildings. On the good side, the hotel itself is very well-kept, it was comforting to find this in that unlikely […] location. The overnight gentleman was very nice to us and carried our luggage up around 3 flights of stairs, and gave us instructions for sightseeing the next morning and for taking the train. However, the morning crew did not offer help with the luggage, and there are no elevators. In general the hotel itself is nice, but please change the table liners a bit more often, we came back two days later and they were just as dirty as when we left. Read more

We have a European gps, thank god. You'll never find it if you don't. It's in the old town and everything is one way, crazy skinny roads. The neighborhood looks a little sketchy at first, but it is fine. The cleanliness of the room was superb. Our room was small, but immaculate. Front desk was helpful and the bed was very comfy.

I stayed at the Hotel Columbia for five days recently. I thought it was a great hotel. The location was very central to the places I wanted to go. Admittedly, the street the hotel is on is undergoing some kind of major construction project (not quite sure what) so it wasn't very picturesque, but that was not a huge detraction. However, the thing that made the hotel get the ratings I have given it was that the staff was extremely helpful and friendly throughout my stay. My arrival was delayed due to a strike in Italy the day I was due to arrive, and from the minute I arrived at the Hotel Columbia well after midnight, I was treated very graciously and warmly. The accommodation was very simple, but the continental breakfast was very well stocked and had a real espresso machine instead of one of those vending type coffee machines. Very atmospheric down narrow and tucked away in courtyard. Staff welcoming and room basic but comfortable. Then neighbouring clubs blasted out music till 3am... Should have asked for quieter room, so worth requesting room on street side. Good simple breakfast.

Reception staff were very helpful, even booking trips for me etc, which is useful in an Island that is not well organised for tourists. My room was quaint, and the bed very comfortable. At the moment( june 2012) it is undergoing some renovations at the entrance don't be put off by this( no work actually happens to cause noise) because it is everything it claims to be. Overall for one night staying in hotel Columbia satisfied our needs. Although we were reasonably happy with our room, in terms of cleanliness. The room was quite small for a double, the WI FI was good although we could not receive it on our phones. Il soggiorno è stato confortevole. Hotel ben tenuto e pulito, camera e servizi ristrutturati e ben funzionanti. Piccolo problema avuto solo con il condizionatore, ma prontamente sistemato. L'hôtel est dans une petite rue perpendiculaire (via Celso) à la via Maqueda (l'un des axes principaux du centre ville de Palerme). La rue est un peu délabrée, et le portail qui donne accès à la cour où se trouve l'hôtel l'est aussi, mais les deux autres côtés de la cour sont en travaux, donc tout cela va bientôt s'arranger. L'accueil est chaleureux […] et le personnel est charmant, surtout la propriétaire, qu'on croise souvent le matin. À notre arrivée, ils nous avaient conseillé un restaurant (Il pipino rosso) qui est très bon et pas cher, et la propriétaire nous a ensuite demandé notre avis pour savoir comment on y avait mangé. Le petit déjeuner est un peu simple, mais il faut demander au personnel (au bar en bas de l'escalier) pour avoir un espresso ou un cappuccino si on n'aime pas le café filtre. Read more
