"Suite 5 is not ideal for a romantic vacation"
We arrived and had a very warm welcome with cookies and wine. The concierge walked us around the building and let us know about a wine happy hour taking place that afternoon. She then showed us to our room which was lovely. However, we were in Suite 5 and a few minutes into our stay realized this wasn't ideal for a romantic get away. The issue stemmed […] from the fact that the bathroom door wasn't a 'real' door. It was a folding door that was made of wood slats. You could see and most definitely hear through them. As the bathroom was right next to the bed it was a bit...well, of an overshare situation. We are a very close couple and were able to laugh about it but it definitely wasn't ideal and we would have preferred to stay elsewhere. The hotel was fully booked so we weren't able to see about switching rooms and felt stuck. Also, and unrelated, on the breakfast order form we listed out my food allergy which is pretty severe. Both days we were there for breakfast we found the exact food item that I am allergic to on top of the food and as a garnish on the plate and both days it had to be sent back. Why have a line item to list out allergies if it's only going to be ignored? It's so unfortunate as the hotel itself is gorgeous, the wine happy hour was lovely and you can't beat the location. We won't be back though. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Lovely B & B"
Just stayed for one night. Very comfortable. We found the breakfast to be yummy but less than spectacular as described by others. Offered only 1 small bread item from the bread basket. Liked sitting out in the garden in early morning with coffee. Some road noise from room 4. Would stay again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Much nicer than the pictures portray. Spotless, nice patio in back for wine reception. Breakfast prepared fresh each morning.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Perfect for Wine Country Vacation"
Really enjoyed everything from the great breakfasts to the relaxing happy hours. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The rooms were cozy and clean. Walking distance to downtown Napa.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Excellent base for Napa Valley adventures"
Wonderful place, extraordinarily friendly staff. We arrived very late and the hotel does not have a night porter, so they left the keys with instructions and a very nice welcome letter at the door. Beautiful room, very comfortable and clean, with our own fireplace. Superbig bathtub for two, which we used for a champgane-infused breakfast. One of the […] nicest places we have ever been. The only "minus" would be that the breakfast tables are really small - but we could handle that with ease. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Beautiful B & B, close to downtown Napa"
This location is perfectly located close to downtown, within walking distance to restaurants and shops. Loved the courtyard in back where everyone gathered in the evening for some wine and appetizers. The food they serve, both for breakfast and appetizers, is just amazing. We just had a junior suite, but that was perfect for us. Still plenty of room, […] bed was comfortable, nice fireplace and sitting area, and large bathroom. Staff was very friendly and always willing to help you out with reservations or suggestions to help complete your get a way! Would definitely recommend this place! "Best vacation ever"
1801 was better than my wife and I could have imagined. The innkeepers, Blair and Carrie, and the staff were warm, welcoming and fun. The attention to detail in the rooms and the breakfast were outstanding. I would recommend this B&B to anyone wanting a great place to stay in Napa Valley/wine country. Almost forgot: the cookies and coffee always on […] and and the daily wine and cheese 5:30 - 6:30 pm were outstanding too. The opportunity to meet and be with wonderful people from all over the US and the world was a bonus. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Suite 1 is beautiful. Breakfast was greatGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We were given a warm welcome, glass of wine, and chocolate truffles upon arrival. There was a wine/cheese hour every night and several places to enjoy the goodies - a courtyard, a front porch, a living room, or your own room. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, setting up last minute appointments for massages in our room. We were within easy […] walking distance of downtown Napa which had several amazing restaurants and tasting rooms. Our room was comfortable, spacious and immaculate. My only slight "dislike" was that there was not a normal door to the bathroom... just one of those bending shutter doors (that I associate with closets). Overall, it was a fabulous experience! "Great place to stay"
The staff and room at 1801 1st were great. The wine and cheese hour was a great way to get to know others and get great ideas on places to eat and things to do. Everyone was helpful and friendly. We would definitely stay there again and refer this place to our friends.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Very nice Napa B&B"
My wife and I had a great two-night stay at 1801 First. We stayed in the Cottage, which is basically a stand-alone building at the back of the property adjacent to a patio that is used by for wine hour every afternoon. We found the Cottage to be very private and quiet, and the accommodations were comfortable. Breakfast in the morning was very good, […] and the staff was extremely friendly and more than willing to provide information about the surrounding area. Both nights we walked from the Inn to restaurants and tasting rooms near downtown Napa and found the walk to be both pleasant and quick (10 minutes or so). Overall a great B&B in a great location in a fun city. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"easy walking distance to main street attractions"
My sister and I shared a room that met our needs perfectly. We did not lack a single amenity. The bed was comfortable, the fireplace inviting, the bathroom was luxurious, and the breakfasts were both healthy and filling. We enjoyed our privacy, but knew that staff was always close by for anything we needed.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great Napa location"
Perfect location to enjoy Napa. Just next to downtown Napa restaurants, shops, and wine train We walked to everything. The hotel is on the expensive side, but comparable to other Napa bed and breakfast / hotel options. Worth the price, in my opinion, for a couple going to Napa for a special occasion. Drink wine and never have to drive back to your hotel. […] The breakfast was excellent, although limited on daily options. Wine and cheese hour is a nice touch and a Napa requirement, I think. Coffee and cookies always available. I will recommend to friends and family traveling to wine country. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Friendly staff & clean, well maintained B&B"
My bf was not excited about Napa, but 1801 changed his mind. When we arrived my bf wanted to watch the Ravens game and was surprised to find a 47 inch flatscreen TV in the room; we've stayed at B&B in the past and the rooms rarely have a small TV let alone a large TV. We stayed in suite one, which was absolutely lovely with a fireplace, sitting chairs, […] private bathroom and mini fridge. In addition to the spacious room, the grounds were lovely and well maintained. Each morning breakfast was served hot and, although basic, tasted delicious! Also, from 5-6pm 1801 staff host a happy hour in the back patio. During our stay we enjoyed OUTSTANDING meals at FARMSTEAD, a restaurant committed to conscious food; we ate there twice and each day the food was flavorful. One day we grabbed deli goods from V.SATTUI and then ate a picnic on the grounds. On Tuesdays and Saturdays there is an open air FARMERS MARKET next door to OXBOW MARKET; we picked up fresh squeezed veggie/fruit juice from Oxbow. At the end of the trip my bf said he liked Napa more than he anticipated and he especially enjoyed 1801 First. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Great bedroom suite with large bathroom, soaking tub and separate shower. Cheese and wine hour, coffee and even port wines out all included in the stay. Our very first visit to Napa was made all the more enjoyable by our stay at 1801 First. Great experience all around- our first stay at a B&B and we are already yearning to go back. The staff was friendly and helpful with activities and local dining. Couldn't have asked for better service or a better location!Genuine Expedia guest review
Was skeptical at first, didn't think 1801 could live up to the pics online. Stayed in the carriage house and reality exceeded the virtual in every aspect. The location is extremely convenient, the staff is friendly and very flexible, but perhaps one of the best attributes is that the breakfast is even better than advertised.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nothing but great things to say!"
The breakfasts (selected the evening before) were the amongst the absolute best breakfasts my husband and I had ever had the pleasure of enjoying. The cocktail hour one evening was magical in their back garden terrace. The homemade cookies that were laid out for us to enjoy when we got back to the hotel after a long day were scrumptious! Manager and owners gave us a warm reception. It didn't look like a hotel, it was more like staying in your relative's house for a couple of days. "Friendly, Nice Interior"
Genuine Expedia guest review
"Charming, relaxed, friendly B&B"
09/13/14 suzieharko Fairfield, Connecticut
We recently stayed at 1801 First for 3 nights as a base for visiting vineyards in the area. It was great! The location is very good - we were able to walk into town for dinner every night. Our room was comfortable, clean, roomy, and had all the amenities we could ask for. There was even a gas fireplace to take the chill off (not that we needed it because the weather was absolutely gorgeous!) The breakfast, which you order the night before, was delicious. Even though there are only a few items on the menu, I had the feeling that you could probably make a special request if desired. The only suggestion I would make for the breakfast is to have earlier serving times. The first serving was at 8:30 which was on the late side for us east coasters who were waking up at 5 am. (However, there was freshly brewed coffee starting at about 6:30 so that was nice!) And, again, I got the feeling we could have arranged something a little earlier if we had asked. Which brings me to the super accommodating staff. They are all lovely people and really seem to enjoy what they are doing. They helped with a lot of our dinner and vineyard reservations and their enthusiasm was fantastic. They serve wine and cheese every evening at 5:30 which was wonderful. The owners really seem to care about making sure their guests are happy. Overall it was a great experience and we'd return in a heartbeat.
"Smooth as silk. No EQ problems at this Inn."
09/11/14 Tennis_Queen2014 Houston, Texas
What a wonderful B&B. We arrived just 6 days after the EQ and the Inn was not affected at all. We had a room upstairs (#3) that was perfect. No Damage. We were close to downtown in a quiet neighborhood that allowed us to easy walking access. They even had off street parking for our rental car. Afternoon social hours were the best. Gourmet breakfasts (gratis) were a delight. Thanks for a wonderful vacation experience. We hope to come again soon.
"Great bed and breakfast that rolls with the punches"
09/10/14 Sarah E Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States
We stayed at 1801 the night that the Napa earthquake occurred. The Inn staff responded extraordinarily well, going above and beyond to make sure all guests were safe, taken care of, and even comfortable, which says a lot given the circumstances! We would highly recommend this B&B to anyone looking to explore downtown Napa. The free cookies available at all times didn't hurt either :)
"The 1801 First is a phenomenal place to stay!"
09/09/14 Mark S Madison Lake, Minnesota, United States
We recently stayed at the 1801 First this past March 2014. This was our very first experience with a b&b anywhere, and spent some time researching this opportunity. The 1801 First far exceeded our expectations! We so enjoyed it that we hesitate to stay at large resorts now...and will be looking for that same service and attention in future travels that we received at the 1801 First (IF that is possible anywhere else). Simply, the team went out of their way to accommodate our every need, and that made our vacation excellent. Having never been to Napa before, they really helped us navigate the area through their own personal experiences and suggestions. It was extremely unfortunate that the Napa area recently experienced an earthquake. All of you at the 1801 First have been in thoughts and prayers, and we imagine you did everything possible to provide your guests with comfort during that difficult time. We look forward to the next time we are able to visit Napa and stay with you at the 1801 First!

This was the perfect spot for us to choose for our honeymoon. It was the first time either of us had been to Napa and we believe we picked the best spot in downtown Napa. Of course we did not experience a stay at the other nearby B&Bs, but from the exterior they did not have as much curb appeal. This spot is inviting from the inside out. From the initial booking over the phone to check out time - The owners and staff were extra helpful, friendly, and accommodating. The breakfast is soooo good! This was a wonderful experience my husband and I will never forget. We will definitely be coming back!
"Great Location and Wonderful Service"

This family owned Bed and Breakfast was delightful! Clean, and inviting with wonderful and helpful staff! It was an amazing stay in Napa! Carrie and Blair were excellent and the food was ABSOLUTELY delicious! My husband said it was the best breakfast he's ever had!
"Amazing Bed and Breakfast"
09/07/14 ngiampietro Jacksonville, Florida
1801 First was an amazing place to stay. The accommodations are beautiful. It is a perfect balance between a luxury hotel and a bed and breakfast. You have the quaint feel of a bed and breakfast with personalized touches with the staff, breakfast, and wine at night and you have the luxuriousness of a hotel with the spacious rooms, queen/king sized comforter beds, two person tubs etc. The staff went above and beyond in helping with anything that was needed from winery recommendations, making dinner reservations, helping plan a champagne picnic hike etc. It is located in downtown napa valley which is very close to a wide variety of wineries as well as within walking distance to many great restaurants! Absolute must visit!
"Definitely Going Back!"
09/02/14 Kay Lynne K Norfolk,
First and foremost, please check dates on posted reviews - Carrie and Blair have only owned 1801 First for approximately one year. If you let yourself be negatively influenced by a few older posts, you'll be doing yourself a disservice and potentially missing out on a wonderful experience! We were fortunate to spend five nights in The Carriage House over Labor Day weekend and it was exactly as depicted in the photos. The owners and staff are friendly, gracious, knowledgeable and welcoming. We never felt as if they were trying to influence our restaurant, winery or activity choices; but, they offered a variety of suggestions if asked, and made reservations if needed. They were available and interested without being intrusive. Some of the things that set 1801 First apart for us were the anticipation of our needs and attention to detail, from freshly baked cookies and coffee, to spa quality toiletries and luxury linens (You can also arrange for in-house spa services if desired). Their concierge services rival a great hotel, while retaining the intimacy of a B&B. The nightly wine and appetizer hour is a great way to meet other guests and share experiences and recommendations from your day's adventures. The breakfasts were substantial, delicious, and provided a great start to the day. The 1801 First Luxury Inn will definitely become a permanent part of our Napa vacations!
"Stayed during the earthquake"
09/02/14 Judy S Ardmore, Pennsylvania
Our first few hours at the Inn were delightful and then the earthquake hit at 3:30 am - the most frightening experience of our lives. Glass, mirrors, pictures, lamps, phone all came crashing to the floor. The power went out so we used the light from our phones to avoid the broken glass and joined the other guests outside. The water lines to the house had ruptured so one of the guests was working on shutting off the water flows. We were fearful of aftershocks. Within the hour, the concierge was on-site to see if we were ok and a few hours later, the owners were on-site as well. It was starting to get light and the few remaining guests were still wondering where to go as there were reports of roads being closed, etc. We had planned to be at the Inn another 2 nights and are from the East Coast and unfamiliar with earthquakes. We understand they were concerned about their property but we were disappointed that the owners weren't of some assistance in helping us find new lodging or just providing some insights as to our options. We got in the car and headed to SF to regroup and ended up going out to Lake Tahoe. We will never again stay in a b&b in CA and will instead seek out large, more earthquake proof structures with backup generators and larger staffs. We will also be aware of what is hanging over the bed. We wish Napa a speedy recovery but won't be back soon.
"Awesome place to stay"

I would definitely stay here again. The experience was great and the service was impeccable. Much better than staying in a hotel. Very close to downtown Napa and there were great restaurant's within walking distance.
