"The most terrible place I've ever been!"
It was terrible. Check-in finishes at 20pm, so if you arrived later, you have a lot of problems with this hotel: calling to the receptionist in the roaming and having a long conversation with non-speaking English woman, then you will wate for her about an hour... And after it you should pay more than you are must according to your booking for "late […] check-in" and you will sleep in dirty room with dirty someone's bed linen. It was very awful experience! cerca de bares (hay que ir al Chinitas), restaurantes... para el precio la habitación está bien, está limpio! lo malo es que llegamos al lugar que indicaba la dirección y luego nos trasladaron dos cuadras más lejos. La señora muy amable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Terrible place and experience"
Residencia Universitaria San José That place makes me still angry when I think about it. Specially the boss Ignacio to whom I had to speak via phone when we arrived as no one was there. We arrived at 21.00 in the evening and on the site where we were booking it said nothing about special check in times, NOTHING, not a word. Thats why we booked it, as […] we knew we will arrive a bit later. We called the phone number which we found at the door of the hostel and I talked to Ignacio, the owner, and he suggested to send some one for a high extra fee - 5Euros - to pick us up for special check in. He said 5 min and the person will be there. It took more than 30min and I tried all the time to explain him that we were not informed about special check in times an he was just not listening to me. And he was behaving in a very unfriendly way! There were 5-6 phone calls more with him in order to get a room!!! After all he suggested that we should go and find another hotel. The day after he called again and suddenly he tried to excuse himself for all the problems. But we needed his help at the evening before when it took almost 1,5 hours from arriving at the place to get the room. Terrible service and information. beside all that, the rooms are not very clean and very very basic - just the location is fine, everything else, specially the way Ignacio treats customers. Terrible! And that is diplomatic way of saying it! Stay away from that place! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Clean room with good access to the city centre. It has at least two buildings, one with their reception and other is only the rooms. The room I stayed could not key-locked but had a chain lock inside. It was not quite comfortable.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Uitstekende basic hotel"
Prima bedden. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"worst hotel of trip so far"
This Hotel is the worst we have stayed in. Very nosy three rooms per floor bathroom and toilet in same room not suited for elderly people who may need to use more othen. A lot of noise late at night night clubs close by. We will not be telling our friends. Plus when booking on line we thought we paid in full but was told it was only a depositGenuine Expedia guest review
Waanzinnig goede ligging in hartje Málaga. Volgende keer slapen wij hier weer!

Trotzdem: Nie wieder! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

My only complaint was that I wasn't able to stay longer - that was my fault, great location and rooms. When I spoke with the owner, he was very helpful, worked out a good deal and tried to find solutions. He already had pre-bookings, we just pretty much arrived at the door in the morning after logging on at the train station and making the booking and then walking there. I made a mistake in my haste and only booked overnight, the rooms were spacious and clean. Recommend to stay there.

Very good location, close to the social life and tourist attractions. The rooms are very nice for such a price and very clean. We booked two rooms which don't include bathroom. However we were the ony ones staying in the floor, so it was like we had a private bathroom and a kitchen.
"1 provider, 2 experiences"
11/03/13 tess x Wroclaw, Poland
Booked via booking.com. They actually have three houses: #1 is on San Jose street with the lounge and reception; #2 is right accross the street in a newer building with a lift, and #3 is 1-minute walk away on Duque de la Victoria street. We discovered this upon arrival and had no previous info which location we would be allocated at. All 100% central, right next to the Museum Picasso Malaga. If checking in during siesta, you will have to ring the number provided at the front door but 2 minutes and a cleaning lady was with us ready to check us in and take payment in cash only. Staff don't speak much English, if at all, which was not a problem for us. We stayed there twice within the past two weeks, first at #3 and then at #2. In both locations we had full independence with the keys to the gate, apartment and room. No curfew, of course. There is a small problem with depositing the keys if you leave very early (3 am for us) so we left these at the mailbox since the reception did not respond. experience 1 ---- the # 3 - Duque de la Victoria location: typical for Malaga central tenement house, 2nd floor, 4 rooms, basic kitchenette (big fridge, microwave), bathroom with a tub and option to shower, area to sit. Generally clean, but the bath and one room had mould on the ceiling --- that room had no window and only frosty glass door - watch out!!! Our room outlooked the street, with beautiful tall window shutters, the tiny balcony was all glassed up and with tiny windows at the bottom which I opened for fresh air and street noise, almost until dawn. But it was a part of the experience so didn't bother us at all. Bring ear plugs if you're fussy ;) These is a radiology clinic opposite the street but didn't bother us either. There was free wifi in the room, good quality; a wardrobe; two tables; two chairs; big towels. Funny, plugs can be found behind the bed. No small lamp for reading but who would sit at a room with such a great weather and plenty to see/do/eat right at your nose :D I am going to stay there the next time when visiting Malaga with my sister. experience 2 ----- the #2 - San Jose location: tiny lift to 3rd floor (3C); kitchenette with a few plates (microwave, big fridge); modern and superclean bathroom with a bath/no option to shower and a tiny window; the rooms decorated as shown on booking.com - chocolate walls; free wifi and a TV in the room, super comfy beds; there were no towels. Visually, it was a more satisfying experience for someone who wants a modern room. The first location was a bit rustic but very cosy and with character :) The only but also heaviest downpoint at #2 San Jose were veery thin walls. You could literally hear every word spoken in the next room, and if the TV in the other room was loud..... We got woken up around 3 am by someone banging on the wall and shouting in Spanish to some other party who were talking in some other room. It was a bit frightening, actually. Also, doors have no handles, they only lock loudly which is disturbing. Our room was next to the bathroom, I would literally accompany every other guest visiting it... The other thing was the combination of kitchen smells and cigarette fumes that prevented us from opening the only window which faced a small inner patio. Hard to bare if you need plenty of fresh air for a good night's sleep. The option was to open the window in the hall that outlooked the tiny San Jose street and keep the door to our room open for a while for ventillation. All in all, #2 San Jose is more modern than #3 Duque but the Duque place definitely wins due to thick walls, access to fresh air and more character. Small tip: a taxi ride from that location at 3 on Saturday morning to Fuengirola airport cost us 20 EUR and took ca. 13 minutes. Other taxi drivers advised it would be around 21-22 EUR but we made a deal with the driver :)
"Amazing location + incredible price"
09/29/13 zmije Prague, Czech Republic
We have booked the room via booking.com and there was no problem except our late arrival. The reception is open 14-20. So we called the number in five minutes time there was a lady who did not speak English, but there was not any problem with check-in at all. The location is just incredible, only about 10 meters from Picasso museum and directly in the heart of the old town. The room was ok, the corridors are dark and bit scary. Other young guests were a bit noisy and so were people in the streets, but it was not that bad. I did not use my earplugs. If you wanna stay in the historical part and want to see all the main highlights (in walking distance) it is perfect.

One of the cheapest and best locations I've ever been in. We had an apartment at an incredible price. The WiFi was exquisite. It was in the close proximity of all the main attractions of the town. The staff were friendly and dependable. No need to pay for breakfast as you can prepare it inside your apartment. Very close to the Malaga Cathedral and just several steps from the Picasso Museum. You'll be in the very centre of the old city of Malaga and you'll be able to visit the Alcazaba and the Gibralfar whenever you like during the day. Very close to beaches, to restaurants and to shopping places. Music is everywhere. In our opinion that this place has only one single flaw: it is flawless...
"Nothing beats price/quality/location of this place!"
05/12/13 Kurt K Wommelgem, Belgium
we found this place online, read about the receptionist that only spoke Spanish (true!), knew that we had to share the bathroom (true) and saw on the map that this hotel is right in the HEART of the most lively amazing city of Malaga. So we read about the noise in the streets that enters your room (true) and knowing all that, we refreshed our school Spanish, made sure we used bathrooms in the restaurants we visited, and bought ear plugs for a decent night rest. Because truly: NOTHING can beat the price of this fantastic location. Okay, we arrived and were not on the list. So in our best Spanglish (and puppy eyes) we were then put on the rooming list. The room was not in the same building as the reception, but litteraly 2 blocks further down the central street "Calle Granada" in the Calle Duque de la Victoria, number 9, in a residential apartment block on the 3rd floor. see google maps: http://goo.gl/maps/CR1VY The room really is basic, but had all we needed: 2 separate beds, a wardrobe and a few electrical outlets. The big plus was the big window with balcony and the fast wireless internet that was absolutely free and a great help planning our holidays. And something very practical, especially as the old town does not allow private cars: a taxi stand is right in front of your door! Everything is basic: the bed is bone hard; the blankets worn out, the doors squeeky, but the fridge (a big one, shared by 3 rooms) cooled and even has a freezer compartment, there is hot and cold water in the shower and you can tell what you want: the whole apartment and everything was really clean and cleaned daily. When we put a little note (in Spanish) asking for clean towels, we also got them, so there is absolutely nothing negative for that price! tip: yes; please do take earplugs. in summer time you will probably want the window to be open and then the noise of people having dinner, going out, eating tapas or just smirting echoes through the stone streets. tip2: there is no A/C nor heating. So pre- and post season is the best time. (may-june and september-october) In july and august, I presume you'd melt away; although the thick stone walls will keep out the heat for quite a while. and before and after the months mentioned it is likely to be too cold in the apartment to be comfy. Although we found 1 thick blanket in the wardrobe too. tip 3: We hired a car and Malaga is a real struggle to find a parking spot. An AFFORDABLE ond; that is. parking houses have prices per minute and you don't have to be the new Einstein to find out that they cost you an arm and a leg: €50,-/day!!! that was twice the price of our fully covered rental per day. So a good tip: try to park your car somewhere around Calle Orfilia and Paseo de Antonio Machado. (http://goo.gl/maps/REg6K) it is free and easy to find. it is right across the big entry of the harbour and most taxi drivers find it easily. Taxi price is around €5,- from the hotel to that parking area. Tip 4: when we walked back from the car, we came along one of the best secret gems: it is not in any guide book, and is very popular amongst the locals as it is not in the tourist centre of town: in the Calle Allemania, right acros the centre of contemporary art you will find the tapa bar MI MANUEL. (http://goo.gl/maps/5V9Dh). it looks shabby, but ooh what a lovely people, great atmosphere and fantastic food. Tip 5: our best tapas we had in the city centre was in "los gatos" (not in "dos gatos"!!!) on the corner of Denis Belgrano-street and Plaza Uncibay. and do try the MAHOU-beer. it is the smoothest ale we ever drunk.
"You Get What You Pay For"

Good: Great Location, Clean Rooms, Free Wifi, Small Tv in Room, Towels and soap provided Bad: Noise from road and adjoining room, lack of utensils in kitchen, shared toilet being quite dirty and lack of someone working at reception so you can check out in the morning. Verdict: Overall for the price paid - good value for money!
"budget decent accomodation"

The room was small but clean with small tv. The bathroom was just one in whole floor so sometimes yo had to wait to get in. The internet connection also was problematic. The noise from the internal wondow was quite loud. the kitchen had no plates or cooking amentities. For a cheap accomodation was fine but if you are looking for a relaxed or romantic evening do not book it.
"one freezing night"
02/25/13 kkbra Valencia, Spain
I stayed there with a friend in January. We had a booking before coming, but there was noone in the reception. I called the number on the door and after waiting for half an hour a person came. After taking the key I never saw any person responsible of the hostal. It was so strange because it was not like a hostal at all.The rooms were of one flat in an apartment (not in the same building with the reception). In my flat there were two separate rooms, a kitchen and a bathroom to share. I did not feel safe there since the reception was in another building and there was no phone in the room to call them. If the people in the other room were burglars or murderers noone responsible could hear us! Also the rooms were too old and the door was half-closed in our room! What was the worst, there was no heating in the room and in January at night it was freezing! We couldn't sleep during the night with only two blankets! Other than these, location was not bad and internet worked fine.
"La peor estancia - estafados"
08/27/14 Gem_viajera Zaragoza, Spain
