The room is exceptional and very high quality and very spacious. Frustrations included poor service from the front desk, no working phone in the room, no wifi in the room and almost ALL Spanish TV with only 5 channels in English. If you can tolerate the frustrations it is a great place, quite and away from the tourist area of town so if you like privacy […] it is also a great place to stay. I enjoyed my stay at this hotel-condo. We had a two bedroom condo with a huge deck with terrific sea and pool view. In This was a great value because a similar suite elsewhere might have cost at least 4 times as much. I liked the development and even inquired about the price of one of the condo units for sale but found that it was well outside my budget. […] Despite the large scale of the development, we rarely saw other guests or found it necessary to compete for amenities. In fact, the place was so quiet that it felt intimate than its size would suggest. Based on the experience, I not only would recommend it but I would visit again in a hurry. "Condo on beautiful private beach."
Mareazul beachfront condos were nice, on beautiful private beach. The resort was very quite. Gorgeous, huge pool. This resort is located about 5 minutes from downtown Playa by car. Highly recommended renting a car to get around. Resort is located in a large complex called Grand Coral. If you look for Mareazul, as listed on internet sites, you will […] never find it (as we experienced the hard way). Not much for food options - best food is located at the pool bar and grill. Recommend purchasing groceries at the grocery store in playa. Beach is very private, clean and gorgeous. No need to fight over beach chairs - they have plenty available. If you are looking for a "party atmosphere" this is not the place for you. Very quite and tranquil. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
The room is amazing. Best room I ever had in my life. Full equiped kitchen, great bed, jacuzzi at the balcony... The pool and beach are great.Genuine Expedia guest review
"lovely away from the throngs"
We booked two nights after a week of family time. Location: two cab drivers had trouble locating the resort. Although the property is away from the main drag it was a lovely quiet reprieve before returning home. This is a large complex that is mostly privately owned condos……and very few are occupied…makes for a very quiet environment. The pools are […] clean and huge (like a couple city blocks long huge) The snack bar by the pool has great food and wifi. We hung out there initially as our room was not available until 3pm. Check in was less than ideal. Only one person working initially and I waited more than 45 minutes as she checked in a large family with extensive discussions about day trips, excursions, car rentals etc without acknowledging my presence. No customer service awareness there……after nearly an hour another employee came and oriented me to the facility. My luggage was placed in storage allowing me to enjoy my wait by the pool unencumbered (best burger!) As previous reviews stated this is not a hotel. There is a small convenience store, gym and spa. The breakfast at the adjacent beach club was great….. we hung out at the beach club all day, beautiful beach and wait staff that are very attentive. We used the AC initially but then by opening the front and back windows we enjoyed a lovely cross breeze that was heavenly. With all that we would consider going there again, would rent bikes if we stayed for any length of time. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great for price."
At $200 + for a two bedroom suite what a steal. Condo nice if not on beach. Pool good and nice beach. Breakfast was ok. About 15 minutes and $14 into town but overall wonderful, quiet and fun.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice hotel on the beach"
Nice, secure beach location. Beautiful, well-maintained grounds. Not close to any restaurants and the ones on site close at 5. Food a bit expensive, but a full breakfast (juice, coffee, fruit, yogurt, granola, eggs, pancakes, French toast, omelets) is included. Great site for a wedding.Genuine Expedia guest review
"V ery Realxing and great price"
It's more of a condo complex than a hotel. Not a lot of amenities other than small poolside restaurant that's open through lunch. The front-desk closes at 10pm as well. The grounds are beautiful, the rooms are beautiful (we had a 2 bedroom penthouse with granite kitchen and 3 bathrooms - kind of an overkill for just the 2 of us but beautiful nonetheless), […] and the beach is amazing. It's a great place to go if you want peace and quiet. You are not in walking distance to anywhere so you will either need a car (which we rented) or rely on taxis to take you to town about 3 miles away. The front desk staff's English-language skills are limited; I called the front desk from my cell because we didn't want the cleaning staff to clean the rooms as we forgot to put our valuables away....the frontdesk thought I was asking for a taxi and even though I thought I finally got through when we got back our room was cleaned....nothing was taken though. On another note, the rooms are not equipped with phones so if you want to make a call to the front desk then you have to use your cell phone or take the long walk over there, which proved inconvenient when our water was shutoff for some inexplicable reason. I had to call twice at my own expense to get someone over to fix it, and no compensation was offered for our time wasted or the charge to my phone. All in all, it is a beautiful complex but only go if you are looking for a private experience as if you were living there. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great condo in the Riviera Maya. IT'S NOT A HOTEL"
The most important thing to know is that IT IS NOT A HOTEL. It is a very nice complex built as condominiums. Some of this units are rented. They are very comfortable, new, modern, equipped with basic things, but if you are thinking you are going to be serviced as a Hotel....go to a Hotel. There is no telephone in the condo, so if you need anything, […] you have to go to the front desk. Very nice ladies will make your bed, change your towels everyday, and clean around, but won't wash dishes. The place is superb, very well maintained, with beautiful gardens and pools. You'll find the best beach with white, smooth sand in the Caribbean. You NEED a car to get there because the shuttle from the airport is very expensive. It is 5 minute drive to downtown Playa del Carmen and 45 minutes to the airport. Breakfast is included, the service is slow because everything is done when you order, but the food is great. It has a master bedroom with a king size bed and a second room with two queen beds. Each one with a full bathroom. You can easily sleep six. I would highly recommend going to Sams (15-20 min drive) or other grocery store to buy food and drinks because each unit has a full kitchen. We really enjoyed our stay!! "Mareazul the Nightmare"
This is not a hotel. It is an apartment complex where they have not been able to sell the apartments so they are no trying to pass it off a s a hotel. They are simply not ready for guests. The lock on the front door did not work when we arrived and it took 3 hrs to fix it. The receptionist (The worst in the world) told me we would have to wait and we […] could not change rooms. She then told me she could not talk to me anymore. The kids were starving and we were suppossed to meet friends for dinner. There is no way to call reception. so I had to walk there every twenty minutes. Reception closes at 10pm. The restuarants closed at 5pm for the christmas period. The patio door did not work, there was a mirror but it was not attached to the wall, hammocks that have no hooks to put them on the wall so they had just been left on the floor, under the furniture was filthy, the beach club ran out of towels, there where no sun beds available any day, the restaurants are outside without any real cover from the sun. God knows what you will do during the rainy season. I asked to see the manager on 4 occassions but he was never available and although I was assured he would come the room to see us, he never did. This is all a shame because the apartments themselves will be great when they are finished. The setting is beautiful, breakfast and the food in general is great and the waiters are exceptional. The problem is that it is just not a hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Ok but won't stay again"
If you like the idea of having resort like amenities, don't stay here. This is a beachfront condo residential rental not a resort. We had a great room, 2 beds 2 baths and a beautiful kitchen and a spectacular view. However, there was construction going on in the unit above us. They were able to move us to a room two doors down but you still could hear […] everything, The front desk couldn't move us to another building because they were either unfurnished or privately owned. The phone didn't work in our room so we had to walk a 1/4 of a mile every evening to have a taxi called for us. The cost of a taxi is 12 us dollars or 120 pesos to and from downtown playa del carmen. The property doesn't have a restaurant only a snack bar open from 8-5. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Forget the inclusive American breakfasts!"
The resort itself is still exceptional. The beautiful beach, the spaciousness of the units that they let out is still the best when it comes to a home away from home. However, because this time we elected to do more cooking than eating out, we found the cooking utensils sadly lacking.. We had to go out and buy a salad bowl as well as tea towels and […] tea cloths to be able to do the dishes!. As we are not spanish we never could find out how to work the dishwasher! Also the breakfast they offer now is horrible!.. as well as the rude server we encountered on our second to last day. 2 years ago, they had fruit cocktail topped with vanilla yogurt and granola as well as all the egg dish choices. For the ones who do not eat eggs or allergic to them, (my daughter) they offered french toast. This time around the yogurt is gone, along with the choice of french toast, so unless you want eggs every day of your stay, forget it. Also the fresh orange juice has been replaced with watered down fruit punch. Absolutely disgusting , we tried for a few mornings to eat what they gave us, but cold toast and cold coffee every day was more than I could tolerate, so we just bought our own groceries for the breakfasts as well. Also they could do with a shuttle service as the taxis into Playa really got to be expensive , for 5 or more people it was $28 each way, that adds up after 2 weeks. "Location is great, private quiet beach"
Location in a quiet surrounding, perfect for relaxing. The pool area is great, not overcrowded. A lot of deckchairs available at any time.To go to downtown you need a car, but that's fine because you need one too for all your sightseeing. The beach is great, no vendors at all. The apartment (the one with little private pool)is huge and comfortable, […] enough space for four guests.Kitchen with great equipment, but less kitchenware like strainer, pan lift, bowls etc. Keep in mind, that this is not a hotel, you have room service, breakfast at the Beach Club and a snack bar at the pool area with meals, but that's all. No entertainment or anything else. We enjoyed our stay! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Need a car"
Great rooms, massive pool area and beach. The Mare Azul is a condo complex and thus service is minimal. There are two restaurants on site but they close at 5. The resort is not in town and really needs a car to be enjoyed. When we checked in they said we booked our two bedroom Condo for only two people and we needed to pay for our two kids - it came […] out to an extra 20 percent. I was beginning to think I made a mistake when booking until another group of four checking in later had the same issue. Still not sure if it is the condo or an Expedia issue. "Not a hotel but a condo rental"
Beautiful property and suites, great beach. This is a residential complex so don't expect the services of a hotel, no room service, no many dining choices, no phones to call reception and lack of information when you check in. On the good side, great location but you absolutely need a car, suites are large, comfortable and brand new with all the amenities […] you need when traveling with family: full kitchen, washer and dryer, bathrooms in each bedroom, huge terrace with furniture and awesome views.

We stayed there 6 nights in a ground floor appartment with a private swimming pool. The room and all the installations are really superb! There were not many people there, so the huge pool area was almost empty and we could enjoy every second of our stay. Also the beach is very nice and not very crowded. Downside is that you need a car to move around […] as it's not in walking distance to anything else. Careful, it is not a hotel. You rent an appartment within a condo property so you do not have room service (meal i mean). the rest is just like in any hotel (cleaning, convenience store, tennis, reception, etc.). "CAN IMPROVE IN A DREAM BEACH"
08/09/14 Lourdes542 Guatemala City, Guatemala
Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo in Mexico is like heaven. Turquoise water, white sands and this complex offers apart hotels. We stayed in Pure Mareazul Riviera Maya and let me tell they can improve service in general. The place is beautiful and the apartments are comfortable; however, bed clothing can be better. Good cotton bed sheets for example, will be perfect. My bed has a ripped one, as incredible as it can be. The fridge was a good brand one, but it was not freezing the food...in the beach...please!! We had breakfasts included. they served fruit and eggs every day as you order...too boring and not healthy. It´s a waste not to develop imagination in such a beautiful and not cheap place. The view was spectacular. Playa del Carmen is a dream beach, sure well be back.

the facility was huge! the rooms are more like a condo. we had 2 bed rooms and 3 bathrooms and private swimming pool+ balcony. the room was very spacious!! about 2000 sq ft. private beach was connected with the hotel. cons 1. no phones and no internet! in guest rooms. they give you a cell phone to charge with prepaid card- which you need yo buy it from a convenient store. 2. far from the down town you need a car to drive around. just outside of facility is dirty / scary- not a place to run/ walk around. 3 very humid in the guest room 4 front desk operates between 8am -10 pm. not 24 hrs
04/29/14 city3b New York City, New York
First - this is not a hotel, it is a condo complex that rents some of the open apartments, that is my understanding. With that in mind, don't expect all the amenities of a hotel. There is daily housekeeping and towel service however. The reception desk if not always open and sometimes manned inadequately. From which come my only negative comments, we arrived early knowing check in was at 3pm, but when 3pm came around, our room was still not ready, when they knew we had arrived hours earlier. There are no phones in the rooms and in checking out we were promised to be picked up with our luggage and taken to reception where our transport was ready to take us to the airport, this never happened so after waiting we had to take our luggage up to reception ourselves almost missing our ride. Which is another point, the complex is huge. There is a long walk to the beach or a long walk to reception, or somewhere in between. The two bedroom suite was very large and well-appointed including a balcony with a whirlpool and hammock. The large complex is immaculately kept, the plazas, the gardens and elaborate pool areas are beautiful. There is a café at the pool and a beach club next door where you are served your complimentary breakfast, delicious and wonderfully staffed. The beach is the highlight – expansive with fine white sand. Umbrellas and lounge chairs are available at the beach club. If you don’t have a car, it is only a 140 pesos cab ride to the center of Playa Del Carmen. The pool café and the beach club close early. For peace and quiet, it can’t be beat. A good value, I would return.

If you're with the wife & kids & find it hard to have family day @ the beach anywhere near Mamitas (Mamitas is the place to be if you're single & young...all day/night beach party/topless/tequila), then try Grand Coral's Playa Azul. We drove there from our condo off 38th & 5th in less than 10 minutes. Grand Coral is a private beach, but, when you drive through the gates @ front hotel entrance & mention "beach", they ask no questions. Follow the small sandy road to the "Beach Club", where you'll find an undisturbed beach & lots of chaise loungers with umbrellas. READ: You will be assessed $20.00US each person (less for kids) to use beach furniture, umbrella and/or beach itself. The GOOD THING is; they let you burn off the $20 each through food & beverage credit via a handy waiter who greets you on the beach. The food & Beverages were well done & not expensive. The rental shop is something right out of the US (unlike other parts of Mexico), where you basically show them your drivers license, fill-out a waiver & rent kayak, boogie boards, etc. You pay when you return. That's right...they TRUST you to return it & then pay, which is something you hardly ever see in Mexico. All staff speaks good English & are professional, yet friendly. This was an easy going day. No hassle, peaceful, attentive staff & great beach. However, I do wish I knew about Mamitas when I was young & single!
"Quiet and Relaxing"
03/12/14 w85131 New York City, New York
We spent 6 days at Pure Mareazul and had one of the most relaxing vacations ever. As some of the other reviewers have pointed out... this is not a hotel in the traditional sense. It is condo residences that are rented out. But there is a full staff and daily maid service. The grounds are amazing and the pool is enormous! It never felt crowded even when there were lots of people there. The beach was awesome! We walked up and down the beach to the next nearest resorts and the beach at Mareazul was, by far, the best! There's a gym, a spa and tennis courts. (It's also near a golf course.)The condos have full kitchens, washing machines and we had a three bedroom with a swim up pool and a jucuzzi on our patio. We loved it! The cons... The size of the complex is quite big, so there was a lot of walking. The restaurants in the resort all close at 5p, so you either have to go to town or cook in the condo which we did a few nights. It is a little removed from things. It's about a 10 minute cab ride to downtown Playa where all the restaurants are. About $15 one way, but cabs are plentiful so it wasn't that big a deal for us. However, renting a car wouldn't be a bad idea if you plan on going to and from town often. (There is a huge grocery store in town (Mega Mart) to buy groceries.) My advice is if you are looking for a nice quiet vacation with the family. This is the place to stay! If you're going to Playa Del Carmen to party... find somewhere closer to the city. Personally, I would return here in the future, but next time might rent a car.
"Too much quiet and far removed"
03/07/14 Kyle P
The two bedroom condo we had was spacious (1700 sq. feet) and gorgeous with full kitchen and top notch appliances. The pools are fabulous and the beach is excellent. Having a rental car would have made our stay more enjoyable. There is a snack bar by the pool and a restaurant at the the beach club but they close at 5pm. There is nothing around the resort so you have to take a cab into town every time - about $12 each way. If you have a car and can grocery shop the place could work well for you. There is a tv in the unit but no cable or satelite so useless. There is free wifi by the snackbar and at reception but no option for wifi in the rooms. The place was empty during peak season so if you like it quiet without having to "reserve" a lounge chair you will like this place. Lastly, we booked a two bedroom unit for two adults and two children through Expedia. When we arrived at the resort they only had a reservation for the two adults and made us pay 20% more for the kids. I will take this up with Expedia when we return home. I was beginning to think I had only booked for two adults and that I had made a mistake when I ran into four adults that had the same experience and were also being charged for the extra two people. This can't be a coincidence. Not sure if the issue is with Expedia or the resort at this point but I can tell you that the people that I dealt with at the desk were not helpful and were not service oriented.

Beautiful Hotel no high rises, it has the longest pool i've ever used. the ground floor rooms a beautiful, stayed by the beach, master bedroom his & her sinks all new & look it too. If you're looking for some peace & quiet this is the place. Only draw back is you cannot walk into town, taxi n/b & they are not cheap. Absolutely arrange price first n/b.

Stayed at this place for a few days. It's not really a hotel, but condos that they rent out. Because of this, they don't have the amenities of a hotel. Make sure your bring extra soap and ask for more towels on day one. The staff is very friendly. I loved the service at the beach and snack bar.

We found the apartments lovely. They are modern, spacious, luxurious, they have hotel ammenities such as breakfast, bar, and its own beach. Just 5 minutes away (by car) from la quinta avenida in Playa del Carmen. It is one of the best hotels/apartments I've been in Riviera Maya, by far! Also, the beach is clean and smooth, without rocks, and you can always go in. I highly recommend it!
