"Popular pub with rooms in Yorkshire countryside"
Wath is a dot of a town in Yorkshire, for which The George is the local pub. It's on the main street, and has a generous parking lot in the rear. It has a small attached wing with several guest rooms and a small dining room to complement the main event, which is drinking at the bar. The hostess is cheerful, the rooms are comfortable with bathrooms up-to-date […] and clean, the dining menu is fairly standard but certainly satisfactory (although I probably wouldn't fuss with the sardine starter again ...), service is pleasant, and breakfast is the usual filling array. In short, a modest but entirely satisfactory place to stop over in the vicinity of Ripon. With the exception of the sardine, I'd be glad to repeat the experience. Great location. Food simple and enjoyable. Friendly service. Disappointed given smallish double room at rear of hotel when other rooms available.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Friendly staff. Good food. Enjoyable two days."
Great location for visiting Fountains Abbey, Ripon, Thirsk and North Yorkshire.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
A very peaceful inn with bedrooms. Excellent breakfast and helpful staff. Only downside was that there were no evening meals served on a Sunday and after a long walk in the countryside we had anticipated eating in. We needed to take the car to get into nearby Ripon which was no real problem. Overall would recommend for a very comfortable stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Perfect Boutique B&B"
Stayed here on the night of Saturday 29th March - very impressed with the overall experience. Staff are attentive and friendly. Had the suite which was spacious, clean and nicely fitted out. Restaurant was superb, with the best food and service we've had in a long time. Helpful advice also given on departure with regard to good places to see in the […] Dales. Highly recommended. "Two nights in Wath"
Our stay for two nights was memorable because of the friendly welcome to The George and the comfort of the hotel. We were very impressed with the cuisine which included a very special pate and a superb beef which we have never seen before. So impressed we are revisiting TheGeorge next year, because it is in the centre of some marvellous scenery and […] provides a fantastic table after a hard days' holidaying! "Good service - and excellent breakfast!"
We were greeted quickly by a very friendly employee. Our room was large and well furnished, with very comfortable beds, and we were glad that the heating was on as the weather had changed to autumn quite suddenly. My only criticism would be that some of 'fixtures and fittings' needed a good dust! Our breakfast was cooked perfectly, by the young, helpful […] chef - exactly what we asked for. "Wonderful Stay at Wath!!!"
We had a wonderful time here. Luke was very accommodating and an excellent chef. The hotel was clean, central to where we wanted to visit and a pleasure to stay there. I would highly recommend it to anyone.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Well worth a visit"
Did a one night B&B plus evening meal here situated in a quiet very attractive upmarket village. The sun was at it hottest but the owner Caroline had made sure a fan was on in the room when we arrived. She couldn't have been more helpful and welcoming. The food was very good (try the Italian meat balls, really outstanding) and service excellent by Millie, […] her first night! This is really a resturant with a small bar area where the locals dominate (friendly enough if a bit loud) as it is the only place in the village for a drink. Worth seeking out as is a few miles off the main road system. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great service in a superb location"
After spending 3 nights in a very poor hotel in York, The George at Wath was a vast improvement. The service was friendly and efficient and the rural location suited us perfectly. The beds are really comfortable and the linen is good quality. My only gripe would be the small size of our room (Ripon) which was classed as superior and to be fair, if the […] weather hadn't been so very hot, it would have mattered less. The owner quickly found us a fan, which did help the situation. The food is good and I recommend the ice cream with nut brittle. The chef gave me the recipe for the nut brittle, which I made this morning, so many thanks for that. We will return next time we are in North Yorkshire. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"good but did not live up to previous reviews on TA"
At 1st may I say the staff were friendly, helpful and a credit to the place, especially as the owner and 'head chef' were away. However we expected better decor / fittings and a less plain menu based on the previous reviews. We were in room "Thistle" which was freezing on arrival. Remedied by switching on the radiator using the "dodgy theremostatic […] radiator valve". The shower was great but the surrounds and the bedroom furniture need some TLC. The menu was not as interesting as expected but maybe this is due to the fact that the pub changed hands in January (we had chosen the George partly based on it's 2012 food reviews but what we got was more like well prepared pub food) Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"the George at Wath a gem"
needed to find overnight accommodation near Ripon, found a gem, food excellent, staff friendly and most helpful, the chef even gave me the recipe and method for the dish I had, so I could replica it at home, all in all a very good stay and one we shall repeat.Genuine Expedia guest review
The George, although in a very rural situation is a thoroughly modern establishment in every other way. The staff are welcoming and friendly, without being pushy, and make you feel comfortable and "at home" as soon as you walk in. There is obvious attention to detail in every area of the establishment, which is contemporary in style and spotless, and […] displays plenty of character/atmosphere. The bar is a friendly area to glance at the Yorkshire Post or have a good chat with locals in front of the log fire. Add to this a good choice of real ale, excellent wines and gourmet food...no wonder I would have happily stayed longer than 2 nights, and I have no hesitation in recommending The George. "Top notch dining"
Village location, bustling pub, rooms appointed to a very high standard, top class evening dining in the restaurant and an outstandingly good Yorkshire Breakfast. Not sure if there was much vegetarian choice so check first if this appies to you. Service perhaps a tad slow in the retaurant, to be hyper-critical, where some noise wafted in from a bustiling […] bar in the evening...and there was a little mix up with the bill. But overall extremely pleasant helpful professional staff and highly recommended place to stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"The perfect wedding"
06/19/14 Graham D Harrogate, United Kingdom
From the moment we contacted Caroline to look around the George she could not have been more helpful. The ceremony room is beautiful and Caroline worked incredibly hard to get it just how we wanted it, if there was anything we were worried about she sorted it out, she really couldn't have done more. When choosing the food Scott was brilliant, he came up with some great ideas and the food was amazing. Everyone at the wedding said what a perfect day it was and a big part of that was down to Caroline and Scott and all their hard. We cannot thank them enough for making our day so special and would recommend the George to anyone looking for a venue for a special occasion!
"My daughters wedding"
06/11/14 Ken M Sunderland, United Kingdom
My daughter and (now) son in law were looking for a friendly venue for their wedding where George (their dog) would be welcome which would be the right size for about 50 guests.. The George fitted the bill perfectly. They wanted a hog roast, and weather permitting, games in the garden. Caroline and Scott couldn't have been more welcoming and accomodating. Garden games (coconut shy, lawn darts, hoopla etc) were no problem, and they helped with the additional decorations that we wanted in the main room. Nothing was too much trouble, even though they were obviously busy with the wedding breakfast preparations, they found time to advise and help us to get the best out of the day. The food was gorgeous and the service excellent. We were made to feel welcome from the time we arrived on the Friday afternoon until we left on Sunday morning. The rooms are not huge, but immaculatelty clean and well equipped with flat screen TV, and plenty of tea/coffee making failities, not the usual one cup you often get. If you are looking for a friendly venue with good food and lovely helpful staff, I would not hesitate to recommend the George. We all enjoyed the wedding enormously, and most importantly, it was exactly the wedding that my daughter and son in law wanted.
"Good village pub"
06/05/14 JasonThornton Manchester, United Kingdom
After speaking with the locals (including the shoot party that where at the bar) we felt right at home food was good enough and the bar was a plesent place to be, if a little loud. I would put this down to all the hardwood in the place rather than local banter, although the landlady felt compelled to apologise for them. ( a large rug or something to deaden the sound would, in my opinion solve this ). However a recommended place to visit.
"Excellent choice for a visit to the Ripon area"
05/29/14 robosheep England
Little to fault this establishment. I stayed two nights whilst visiting Ripon Cathedral with a choir. The room was very clean and the bed comfortable. Excellent breakfast - and I am a fussy vegetarian! As it is a pub, I was prepared for some noise as I was staying from Friday through to Sunday, but I was pleasantly surprised as I wasn't disturbed at all on either night. The only thing that I think I feel they could improve would be to make the wifi available in the rooms and not just the common areas, but that is a minor point. I would definitely stay there again if I was visiting the area.
"A pleasant stay with some nice extras!"
05/13/14 lhrNEEngland NE England
We stayed a couple of nights with friends at a weekend. It is a pleasant, friendly venue. Food is nice (no evening meals on Sunday evenings but plenty of places in Ripon). Menu perhaps is a little limiting but not if only staying a couple of nights. Excellent breakfast. Staff very friendly, helpful and welcoming. Room adequate, clean and good shower. It would be nice to have a better more comfortable seating area for residents and have some softer furnishings in the bar/lounge areas as the hard surfaces reflect lots of noise. Its a hard wooden floor, wooden tables and chairs, a few cushioned upright seats but no soft furnishings. The result is the high frequency sounds of people chattering bounce around and take away the relaxing factor that should be there. Excellent extras in my bedside drawer - two lady's bras and two pairs of lady's knickers! Clean I hasten to say. I did not try them on! Think mine host had a potential problem as if she rings the previous guest to arrange for same to be sent on the owner may not have been that person's wife! Perhaps the lady concerned may read this and can make contact for the return of her over shoulder boulder holsters and other requisites! A nice area and lovely countryside. Very friendly pub.

We loved our stay at The George at Wath. A very friendly welcome, a clean and comfortable room, a great atmosphere in the bar and a delicious breakfast! The village is very pretty and only 4 miles to the centre of Ripon, which made a very pleasant walk on a lovely day. Looking forward to a return visit.
"Excellent Place To Stay"

My wife and I stayed at the George for one night recently and we enjoyed the experience very much. The room was lovely and the evening meal we had was superb. The breakfast was also excellent. The owners are very personable and helpful. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

Looking around for wedding venues are hard enough but when we came to the George and met Caroline and Scott we knew this was the place we wanted to spend out special day. Throughout the year of organising, on which I contacted them on numerous occasions, there was nothing they wouldn't help us with. The great thing was being able to customise the menu unlike other hotels that didn't give a choice. When it came to the day, everything was taken care with such care and attention, even down to ordering jn our favourite tipple. All we heard all day from our guests was how lovely everything was especially the food. Would highly recommend the George for any event. Rooms were all lovely and the staff were ever so friendly. Looking forward to returning next year.

We stayed overnight, what a lovely place, rooms very comfortable and beautifully decorated. The owners couldn't do enough for you and were very friendly. Plenty of choice in the bar. We also ate in restaurant, food was beautiful and very well presented. Breakfast was also delicious. Would definitely return!!

Stayed for two nights and can't praise it highly enough! Everyone so friendly and welcoming. The breakfast is fabulous and the quality of the food on the menu is excellent. Lovely and clean throughout, nice modern decor. Very comfortable nights sleep. Great place to stay as handy to explore this area of the Dales and close to Ripon and Thirsk. Lovely to stay somewhere that is interested in their guests and go out of their way to make you feel welcome .
