"Popular pub with rooms in Yorkshire countryside"
Wath is a dot of a town in Yorkshire, for which The George is the local pub. It's on the main street, and has a generous parking lot in the rear. It has a small attached wing with several guest rooms and a small dining room to complement the main event, which is drinking at the bar. The hostess is cheerful, the rooms are comfortable with bathrooms up-to-date […] and clean, the dining menu is fairly standard but certainly satisfactory (although I probably wouldn't fuss with the sardine starter again ...), service is pleasant, and breakfast is the usual filling array. In short, a modest but entirely satisfactory place to stop over in the vicinity of Ripon. With the exception of the sardine, I'd be glad to repeat the experience. "Great food and country location"
The food here is wonderful. Room and service terrific too -would definitely stay again!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The George is a very nice b+b which has very friendly staff who could not do enough for you. The carpets in the main through fair is a little tired but the quality of the furnishings in the room is first rate and very good value for money. Good breakfast and would definitely stay again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"george of wath"
Very good friendly service. Food was excellent. Local people where nice and friendly, easy to talk to. Highly recommended.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Outstanding service from start to finish. The owners were friendly, chatty and took great care of us even though we were only there for the one night. The food was absolutely outstanding (particularly the steak and ale pie!) at a more than reasonable price. This hotel is literally the only place in the village so you will have to drive a little further […] afield for shops, however it is a great location for hiking and is a beautiful village. Ripon is less than 10mins drive away so it is ideally located for a getaway. We will absolutely stay here again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"This one is a KEEPER!!"
A very warm welcome, a room big enough for us and our 3 dogs, great food and a good pint, I think that will do.Genuine Expedia guest review
Great wee hotel, friendly helpful staff. Only downside was they didn't serve dinner on Sundays.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Country Inn close to A1"
Great location. Food simple and enjoyable. Friendly service. Disappointed given smallish double room at rear of hotel when other rooms available.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Friendly staff. Good food. Enjoyable two days."
Great location for visiting Fountains Abbey, Ripon, Thirsk and North Yorkshire.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
A very peaceful inn with bedrooms. Excellent breakfast and helpful staff. Only downside was that there were no evening meals served on a Sunday and after a long walk in the countryside we had anticipated eating in. We needed to take the car to get into nearby Ripon which was no real problem. Overall would recommend for a very comfortable stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Perfect Boutique B&B"
Stayed here on the night of Saturday 29th March - very impressed with the overall experience. Staff are attentive and friendly. Had the suite which was spacious, clean and nicely fitted out. Restaurant was superb, with the best food and service we've had in a long time. Helpful advice also given on departure with regard to good places to see in the […] Dales. Highly recommended. "Two nights in Wath"
Our stay for two nights was memorable because of the friendly welcome to The George and the comfort of the hotel. We were very impressed with the cuisine which included a very special pate and a superb beef which we have never seen before. So impressed we are revisiting TheGeorge next year, because it is in the centre of some marvellous scenery and […] provides a fantastic table after a hard days' holidaying! "Good service - and excellent breakfast!"
We were greeted quickly by a very friendly employee. Our room was large and well furnished, with very comfortable beds, and we were glad that the heating was on as the weather had changed to autumn quite suddenly. My only criticism would be that some of 'fixtures and fittings' needed a good dust! Our breakfast was cooked perfectly, by the young, helpful […] chef - exactly what we asked for. "Wonderful Stay at Wath!!!"
We had a wonderful time here. Luke was very accommodating and an excellent chef. The hotel was clean, central to where we wanted to visit and a pleasure to stay there. I would highly recommend it to anyone.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Well worth a visit"
Did a one night B&B plus evening meal here situated in a quiet very attractive upmarket village. The sun was at it hottest but the owner Caroline had made sure a fan was on in the room when we arrived. She couldn't have been more helpful and welcoming. The food was very good (try the Italian meat balls, really outstanding) and service excellent by Millie, […] her first night! This is really a resturant with a small bar area where the locals dominate (friendly enough if a bit loud) as it is the only place in the village for a drink. Worth seeking out as is a few miles off the main road system. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great service in a superb location"
After spending 3 nights in a very poor hotel in York, The George at Wath was a vast improvement. The service was friendly and efficient and the rural location suited us perfectly. The beds are really comfortable and the linen is good quality. My only gripe would be the small size of our room (Ripon) which was classed as superior and to be fair, if the […] weather hadn't been so very hot, it would have mattered less. The owner quickly found us a fan, which did help the situation. The food is good and I recommend the ice cream with nut brittle. The chef gave me the recipe for the nut brittle, which I made this morning, so many thanks for that. We will return next time we are in North Yorkshire. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"good but did not live up to previous reviews on TA"
At 1st may I say the staff were friendly, helpful and a credit to the place, especially as the owner and 'head chef' were away. However we expected better decor / fittings and a less plain menu based on the previous reviews. We were in room "Thistle" which was freezing on arrival. Remedied by switching on the radiator using the "dodgy theremostatic […] radiator valve". The shower was great but the surrounds and the bedroom furniture need some TLC. The menu was not as interesting as expected but maybe this is due to the fact that the pub changed hands in January (we had chosen the George partly based on it's 2012 food reviews but what we got was more like well prepared pub food) Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"the George at Wath a gem"
needed to find overnight accommodation near Ripon, found a gem, food excellent, staff friendly and most helpful, the chef even gave me the recipe and method for the dish I had, so I could replica it at home, all in all a very good stay and one we shall repeat.Genuine Expedia guest review
The George, although in a very rural situation is a thoroughly modern establishment in every other way. The staff are welcoming and friendly, without being pushy, and make you feel comfortable and "at home" as soon as you walk in. There is obvious attention to detail in every area of the establishment, which is contemporary in style and spotless, and […] displays plenty of character/atmosphere. The bar is a friendly area to glance at the Yorkshire Post or have a good chat with locals in front of the log fire. Add to this a good choice of real ale, excellent wines and gourmet food...no wonder I would have happily stayed longer than 2 nights, and I have no hesitation in recommending The George. "Top notch dining"
Village location, bustling pub, rooms appointed to a very high standard, top class evening dining in the restaurant and an outstandingly good Yorkshire Breakfast. Not sure if there was much vegetarian choice so check first if this appies to you. Service perhaps a tad slow in the retaurant, to be hyper-critical, where some noise wafted in from a bustiling […] bar in the evening...and there was a little mix up with the bill. But overall extremely pleasant helpful professional staff and highly recommended place to stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"A little Gem!"

We stayed one night for a birthday treat.....great room, clean and comfortable, We stayed for an evening meal which was beautiful with fine ales and wine and the breakfast was perfect. The night we stayed over they were hosting a charity ball so we were invited to join which was great fun. Lovely people, my other half enjoys darts and the landlord joined him for a few games which was nice. We would definitely revisit and highly recommend.

We were warmly welcomed by the owners, they are a very welcoming and couldn't do enough for us. We stayed for New years eve, and although it was very quiet, it was a lovely evening. The food was excellent on both days of our stay, even the locals are welcoming. We would stay here again, which we hope to do when we go to Ripon races in the summer.

A comfortable small hotel (5 rooms, all en suite), well furnished and decorated throughout. There is a large Bar (Cask Marque beers) plus Games Room and a Beer Garden. The Staff were very welcoming and efficient. Enjoyable Yorkshire breakfast. A walk through the Village to the Church (St. Mary’s – part of which dates from Saxon times) is recommended.
"Warm welcome, great food and dog friendly."
10/26/14 Max2012Norwich Norwich
We stopped off for one night on the way home from Scotland - the pub seems to be a Young Farmers' meeting point which added to the lively atmosphere and Wath itself is a very attractive period village. We were greeted very warmly and shown to our room which was modern, warm and comfortable if not overly large. We had a very good meal, with good service and were offered a full range of bar and restaurant choices. Our two labradors were made welcome also. We all slept very well (no noise problem from either the bar or people leaving.) This place is conveniently located just off the A1 and we will definitely use it again. Thank you!
"Comfortable & Enjoyable Stay"

We stayed for 2 nights midweek at The George as we wished to visit Ripon (with its magnificant cathedral), Thorp Perrow arboretum, Bedale (with its independent shops) and Masham(with its attractive square). We found The George friendly and welcoming: the staff, accommodation and food were all excellent and good value. As Wath is easily accessible from the A1 (2 miles) it is an ideal base for touring the Yorkshire Dales.

"Amazing wedding reception venue!"
09/02/14 Amanda R Leeds, United Kingdom
We had our wedding reception at The George on the 8th August 2014, it excelled in every single area and we could not have being happier with the service we received. Caroline and everyone at The George were incredibly helpful and went above and beyond to make sure we had the most perfect day. The food was outstanding and they catered perfectly for our tastes. All our guests commented on how good the food was. The reception room was ideal for our 65 guests and looked beautiful. We also had bed and breakfast at The George which again was exceptional. We could not recommend The George enough for people who are looking for the ideal wedding venue. For us it was absolutely perfect!
"Wedding celebrations and stay"
09/01/14 Robert D Portsmouth, United Kingdom
My eldest son married the love of his life here on 30 August and it was superb. Having stayed the previous night in the hotel accommodation and that after the wedding with other members of my family I can only say that it was astounding - food, accommodation, facilities and above all the lady of the house was friendly(she knew everyone's names), and highly efficient. The chef produced a lovely wedding dinner and the full breakfasts were great. If I could find an excuse I would stay there on a regular basis. Very well done.
"Great Local Pub"
We were looking for somewhere that was dog friendly and close to Ripon and this one came up trumps. Such a friendly welcome by the owners. It was quiet when we were there, the service was quick. The food was really hearty and tasty we had no room for desert. Not a cheap lunch but that was not an issue due to the quality. Recommend.
"The perfect wedding"
06/19/14 Graham D Harrogate, United Kingdom
From the moment we contacted Caroline to look around the George she could not have been more helpful. The ceremony room is beautiful and Caroline worked incredibly hard to get it just how we wanted it, if there was anything we were worried about she sorted it out, she really couldn't have done more. When choosing the food Scott was brilliant, he came up with some great ideas and the food was amazing. Everyone at the wedding said what a perfect day it was and a big part of that was down to Caroline and Scott and all their hard. We cannot thank them enough for making our day so special and would recommend the George to anyone looking for a venue for a special occasion!
