"Popular pub with rooms in Yorkshire countryside"
Wath is a dot of a town in Yorkshire, for which The George is the local pub. It's on the main street, and has a generous parking lot in the rear. It has a small attached wing with several guest rooms and a small dining room to complement the main event, which is drinking at the bar. The hostess is cheerful, the rooms are comfortable with bathrooms up-to-date […] and clean, the dining menu is fairly standard but certainly satisfactory (although I probably wouldn't fuss with the sardine starter again ...), service is pleasant, and breakfast is the usual filling array. In short, a modest but entirely satisfactory place to stop over in the vicinity of Ripon. With the exception of the sardine, I'd be glad to repeat the experience. "Two nights in Wath"
Our stay for two nights was memorable because of the friendly welcome to The George and the comfort of the hotel. We were very impressed with the cuisine which included a very special pate and a superb beef which we have never seen before. So impressed we are revisiting TheGeorge next year, because it is in the centre of some marvellous scenery and […] provides a fantastic table after a hard days' holidaying! "Good service - and excellent breakfast!"
We were greeted quickly by a very friendly employee. Our room was large and well furnished, with very comfortable beds, and we were glad that the heating was on as the weather had changed to autumn quite suddenly. My only criticism would be that some of 'fixtures and fittings' needed a good dust! Our breakfast was cooked perfectly, by the young, helpful […] chef - exactly what we asked for. "Wonderful Stay at Wath!!!"
We had a wonderful time here. Luke was very accommodating and an excellent chef. The hotel was clean, central to where we wanted to visit and a pleasure to stay there. I would highly recommend it to anyone.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Well worth a visit"
Did a one night B&B plus evening meal here situated in a quiet very attractive upmarket village. The sun was at it hottest but the owner Caroline had made sure a fan was on in the room when we arrived. She couldn't have been more helpful and welcoming. The food was very good (try the Italian meat balls, really outstanding) and service excellent by Millie, […] her first night! This is really a resturant with a small bar area where the locals dominate (friendly enough if a bit loud) as it is the only place in the village for a drink. Worth seeking out as is a few miles off the main road system. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great service in a superb location"
After spending 3 nights in a very poor hotel in York, The George at Wath was a vast improvement. The service was friendly and efficient and the rural location suited us perfectly. The beds are really comfortable and the linen is good quality. My only gripe would be the small size of our room (Ripon) which was classed as superior and to be fair, if the […] weather hadn't been so very hot, it would have mattered less. The owner quickly found us a fan, which did help the situation. The food is good and I recommend the ice cream with nut brittle. The chef gave me the recipe for the nut brittle, which I made this morning, so many thanks for that. We will return next time we are in North Yorkshire. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"good but did not live up to previous reviews on TA"
At 1st may I say the staff were friendly, helpful and a credit to the place, especially as the owner and 'head chef' were away. However we expected better decor / fittings and a less plain menu based on the previous reviews. We were in room "Thistle" which was freezing on arrival. Remedied by switching on the radiator using the "dodgy theremostatic […] radiator valve". The shower was great but the surrounds and the bedroom furniture need some TLC. The menu was not as interesting as expected but maybe this is due to the fact that the pub changed hands in January (we had chosen the George partly based on it's 2012 food reviews but what we got was more like well prepared pub food) Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"the George at Wath a gem"
needed to find overnight accommodation near Ripon, found a gem, food excellent, staff friendly and most helpful, the chef even gave me the recipe and method for the dish I had, so I could replica it at home, all in all a very good stay and one we shall repeat.Genuine Expedia guest review
The George, although in a very rural situation is a thoroughly modern establishment in every other way. The staff are welcoming and friendly, without being pushy, and make you feel comfortable and "at home" as soon as you walk in. There is obvious attention to detail in every area of the establishment, which is contemporary in style and spotless, and […] displays plenty of character/atmosphere. The bar is a friendly area to glance at the Yorkshire Post or have a good chat with locals in front of the log fire. Add to this a good choice of real ale, excellent wines and gourmet food...no wonder I would have happily stayed longer than 2 nights, and I have no hesitation in recommending The George. "Top notch dining"
Village location, bustling pub, rooms appointed to a very high standard, top class evening dining in the restaurant and an outstandingly good Yorkshire Breakfast. Not sure if there was much vegetarian choice so check first if this appies to you. Service perhaps a tad slow in the retaurant, to be hyper-critical, where some noise wafted in from a bustiling […] bar in the evening...and there was a little mix up with the bill. But overall extremely pleasant helpful professional staff and highly recommended place to stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Looking around for wedding venues are hard enough but when we came to the George and met Caroline and Scott we knew this was the place we wanted to spend out special day. Throughout the year of organising, on which I contacted them on numerous occasions, there was nothing they wouldn't help us with. The great thing was being able to customise the menu unlike other hotels that didn't give a choice. When it came to the day, everything was taken care with such care and attention, even down to ordering jn our favourite tipple. All we heard all day from our guests was how lovely everything was especially the food. Would highly recommend the George for any event. Rooms were all lovely and the staff were ever so friendly. Looking forward to returning next year.

We stayed overnight, what a lovely place, rooms very comfortable and beautifully decorated. The owners couldn't do enough for you and were very friendly. Plenty of choice in the bar. We also ate in restaurant, food was beautiful and very well presented. Breakfast was also delicious. Would definitely return!!

Stayed for two nights and can't praise it highly enough! Everyone so friendly and welcoming. The breakfast is fabulous and the quality of the food on the menu is excellent. Lovely and clean throughout, nice modern decor. Very comfortable nights sleep. Great place to stay as handy to explore this area of the Dales and close to Ripon and Thirsk. Lovely to stay somewhere that is interested in their guests and go out of their way to make you feel welcome .

"Wedding celebrations in Ripon with a overnight stay at The George."
09/18/13 Hywel13 Halifax, United Kingdom
As a family group I booked three rooms at the George for an overnight stay. Booking was easy and pleasant over the phone. On our arrival we were greeted very warmly and shown compact yet very comfortable rooms. The bathrooms were clean and well equipped. We were eating out that night so were unable to sample diner.( A shame really as the food looked excellent) However we did sample two or three pints of well kept and well pulled ale in the bar. The hotel had booked a Taxi for us to travel to Ripon and this turned up at the required time. Taking the traditional cooked breakfast in the morning was the perfect end to our stay. The Hotel is situated in a Beautiful part of the country perfect for walks and visiting the nearby sights. At the end of the day the test is would we go back? Yes we would. Loved it. MH.

We have just returned from a wonderful weekend at the George at Wath. What a hidden gem.We received a warm welcome from Caroline and Dean. The rooms were well equipped, clean and cosy. The food was excellent and the service was very good. Caroline organised a taxi for us to go to the races nothing was too much trouble her and the staff. We are booking again next year. We highly recommend The George at Wath
"Worth a visit..."
We went for sunday lunch after reading the positive reviews on the way to a weekend away. It is a little off the beaten track but well worth a visit. It was a quiet afternoon, although the staff told us they had had a run of a couple of weeks where they were extremely busy, mainly through word of mouth. We were sat in a little restaurant and felt that the staff had the perfect balance of being attentive yet leaving us to enjoy our meal. The portions were very generous, so much so that we couldn't fit in a dessert (unfortunately!). The food was tasty and is highly recommended. We hope that this venture is successful and should we ever be in that part of the country again we would definitely return.
"Expensive for a Standard Room in a small village"
07/05/13 erntravels alexandria, Virginia
This establishment is a small and apparently popular local inn just north of Ripon. On the basis of other reviews, we asked for a room not over the kitchen, bar and dining area. In spite of being toward the back, we could still hear noise from those areas (it was a Saturday night, but still.) Our "Ripon Room" had stairs leading up to the bedroom area which had a window area to use for one suitcase, another suitcase rack, and wall-hung TV. A desk, mirror, and closet were in the entry area opposite the bathroom, which had a tub/shower and towel warmer. There was liquid soap, hand wash, and lotion. Parking was in the back of the inn and wifi was included with the room, although the signal was very weak and would drop out. Dinner was very good, although service was slow, probably because of the activity in the bar. My husband had the lamb shank and I had the stuffed chicken breast. Sunday breakfast was cooked to order. All in all, this was expensive compared to other places during our Scotland trip.

2 night stay as we were walking in the Dales over the weekend. Great position in a tiny village, 5 minutes from the A1. The owners and their staff were just what you hope for, friendly, very helpful, not in your face, there when you need them. The service, food, ambiance, rooms were all very good. We visit this area every year and we will certainly return - recommend highly.

Well I don't really know where to start! Organising a wedding is very stressful.....unless you have Caroline (owner) helping, she takes everything in her stride, which made me more relaxed. Nothing was a issue for Caroline, if I suggested something, she would find a way to make it better, if we were worried about something, she puts your mind at ease! Thank you Caroline for all your hard work. The food options.....Scott knows what he's talking about, if he suggests something - go with it!!! Not 1 guest had anything bad to say about our meal, and people have said they will be staying here next time they visit us. The food service was fantastic, everything flowed extremely well, and there was no rushed feeling you can get at weddings. Eton mess......heavenly!!! The rooms are gorgeous, the bed in York room was the comfiest I have slept in for a long time and HUGE!! We can not thank Scott, Caroline and family enough for making our day so special......can we do it again please??? I would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone looking for a wedding venue, place to stay or a pub meal........FANTASTIC!!!! Love Kate & Ed Buerdsell (eeekkkk how cool is that)
