"Would not recommend this B&B!"
Terriable room..beds not even attached to the headboard so your head & pillow was in the gap...plus the pillows were so thin even using two did not help; we had a terrible night. Bathroom shower had mold around it. I really think the host should spend a night in the room we had to see just how unpleasant it is..now, I do have to say, the breakfast was […] delicous. We were assigned the breakfast arrival time at 8:45 am...however, the host was upset we arrived at that time as the other guests had not finished their breakfast's......strange sutuation. I hate to give A negative review but I must say after spending $138 US dollars, I expected not to have such issues. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Clean, luxurious room, great welcome."
Arranged early drop-off of luggage before check-in. Host Martin was wonderful. Room was very clean with fantastic bed and amenities. Not in center of town but easy to get there. Very quiet, being next to a pub no problem at all, didn't hear a peep.Genuine Expedia guest review
The hosts were very helpful, serving a hot and large breakfast. The room was cozy, a home away from home. One comment was the floor was very slippery, take car stepping out of the shower as there is a high ledge.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Friendly comfortable place to stay"
Martin was an informative and helpful host. Breakfast was ample, coffee very good. Room clean. Hotel.com needs to provide clearer instructions and map to locate the B&B. Wifi was weak and only partially functional. Suitcase stand(s) would have been helpful.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"A decent option if staying in Durham"
Moor End is located in a residential/commercial neighborhood outside of Durham. The rooms are small but very clean and comfortable. Bathrooms so tiny that I can't stand up in them are never a great deal of fun so if you are tall, be warned! Breakfasts are very good, hosts are amenable, parking is very convenient. Besides the small, low-ceiling rooms […] the biggest drawback is that the property is not within walking distance of anything. Now, the drive to Durham is not difficult but parking is expensive in town and it would have been nice to stay somewhere that is was possible to have a few drinks at dinner then walk back to your room. Overall, this is a reasonably decent property. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Couldn't ask for a better location. I parked car in private area. And jumped on a local bus for Durham City Centre About 5 minutes away .Next door to b/b is a pub fall out of one and into the b/b the owners of the b/b are delightful people .breakfast was the best I have had for a long time i will be staying there again believe me (well done)Genuine Expedia guest review
"Best B&B experienced"
My partner and I spent three nights at Moor End. We were made welcome by Debbie and Martin and had a spacious room on the top floor with ensuite shower room and very comfortable bed. There was a wide choice at breakfast, and everything was of the highest quality and beautifully prepared. We will definitely go back to Moor End B&B on our next visit to […] Durham. A lovely guest house in close proximity to the A1. Room was clean and comfortable as was the ajoining shower room. Good breakfast offered in the morning.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Lovely clean, comfortable, friendly hotel."
Had a lovely stay. The B&B is spotlessly clean and comfortable. The breakfast was perfect and the staff were friendly. It was just a little further from the city than we had hoped, a 40 minute walk. I would definitely recommend this to friends and would stay here again if we are in Durham.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Brilliant service - highly recommended"
Staff very friendly. Comfortable beds. Excellent breakfast.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Great overnight stay. The room was good-sized and the bed was very comfortable. We had a room at the front of the B&B but were not troubled by road noise at all. Great choice at breakfast, generous portions and beautifully booked. We received very helpful advice on where to eat on the Sunday evening and also on parking within Durham City Centre. We'd […] definitely stay here again when visited Durham. Thank you. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"A brilliant experience!"
This was a perfect experience in every way. The room was incredibly comfortable, with a lovely bathroom and beautiful breakfast, and the location was very central with easy parking, and public transport nearby if required. We were treated to wonderful service, particularly because we had booked a night that our hosts had thought they had blocked out, […] and they STILL came back from their night out at the movies and looked after us!! "A visit to Durham"
Excellent guest house. Comfortable and convenient. The only snag was standing to use the toilet with a sloped roof and seat that would not stay up.Genuine Expedia guest review
Friendly, clean B&B with good breakfasts. Well located for Durham, Beamish and other attractions in the North East.Genuine Expedia guest review
very good rooms and service, near to the bus stops for the city, and motorway just so easy for all that you could want. would deffinately use this guest house again.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Ideal for couples"
Nice, clean, quirky, quality. Only a stone throw (£5 taxi) from city centre. My wife loved the place and she's fussy.Genuine Expedia guest review

"All round fantastic"
As soon as we walked it we received a very warm welcome and everything explained to us about where we could get food etc. I was impressed with the beautiful decor of the dining room and I was not disappointed with our room. It was the nicest room we have stayed in for a long time and the attention to detail was great. I was also impressed with the information […] folder in the room as it had a lot of places to see in, maps and all about the bed and breakfast which these days is a bonus. Very comfortable and clean. Our room was on the front on the road side but as in previous reviews of the road noise this is no longer the case as they have had new windows put in recently and you can have a very peaceful nights sleep. The breakfast in the morning was great and there were a number of choices. A great place to stay very close to Durham and a short walk to a restaurant for a lovely meal in the evening. Overall an excellent place to stay and the only thing wrong was that our stay there was not long enough but we are sure we will be going back soon to see Durham again and this will be our first choice of accommodation for certain. Really enjoyed the room and all the attention to details in the decorating. A little further from the city center than expected but easily accessible by bus.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Lovely warm reception on a cold evening, spacious, beautifully decorated room, warm comfy bed. Perfect breakfast, anything you want is offered. The thing I liked most was that I didn't feel like I was staying in someone's spare room as is often the case in b&bs. I've stayed at the bannatyne hotel around the corner previously and would never go back […] as long as there is a room available here Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Good position for catching bus."
Very good, friendly hosts, breakfast good, good position for catching bus. Just a mention, could do with a radiator in bathroom in No' 3 room, but apart from that, very good all round.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Easy to find"
Stayed here one Friday night. Really easy to find just off the A1. Room was a little small with electric flush on-suite but very adequate for a night. Not a lot nearby but had a nice meal at the Table Table (10 minute walk). Parking was good at the rear and breakfast was really nice. Host was very friendly.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"A convenient overnight stay"
Everything clean, comfortable and efficient. Loved the stripped pine and bare wood decor, but spoiled by so much clutter of decorations and so many hearts; not a place to stay if single, male, or going through a bad time in a relationship! Very convenient for buses into centre.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Character combined with cleanliness."
Would recommend Moor End to anyone wishing to use this B & B as a base for visiting Durham with excellent connections to Newcastle and York. There is a bus stop across the road and £1.40 and 10 minutes will take you past Durham cathedral and into the city bus terminal. Martin and Debbie offer a wide selection of breakfast choices and are very helpful […] with suggestions of sights worth visiting and places to eat. . We found the B & B to be very clean and our room comfortable, our only complaint being that on the top floor with a sloping ceiling headroom was restricted in parts.

My wife and I stayed in Nov 2014. Booking and payment via the internet were simple and easy. We got a warm, friendly, welcome from Martin. No lift available but Martin carried our luggage up the stairs. Parking close by, good food at breakfast, and a comfy bed. Excellent value for money. It is an extremely good location for getting to Durham centre; it's on a main bus route (10 mins), is £6 by taxi, and a straightforward route if you choose to drive. There is an Anglican Church across the road and a pub next door but it is not noisy at night. Although food is limited at the pub next door, there is an excellent TableTable gastro pub 10 minutes walk away. I can't think what else anyone would want to be honest.

Let's start with the positives. The bed was very comfortable. This b & b is also quite clean, and the owner responds positively to all reasonable requests. The building seems historic or at least quaint. Nonetheless, we didn't have such a happy experience. The b & b is quite a bit further from the center of Durham than we had expected; apparently there is good bus service, though we used taxis only. Normally with bed & breakfasts we expect to pay a little bit more in exchange for a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Many other guests on this page seemed to find just that, but we did not feel that way. This room was booked for us on a business trip, and hence we did not know that 7 PM was the close of check-in. The owner met us when we arrived later and didn't seem to mind, though I later found a cold and somewhat scolding query in response to my emailed notice that we'd be in during the evening. I understand the innkeepers' wish to lead a normal life, but people are not used to such limited check-in hours, so perhaps guests should be informed of the 7 pm limit. Quite often dining rooms are left open at b & b's in case someone needs a small snack at some point, but at this establishment it is strictly locked at all mealtimes. Perhaps there are good logistical and/or security reasons for this but it contributeed to the general feeling of being an alien in this establishment. When we moved elsewhere in Durham for the third night, we felt an immense sense of relief. Thus we cannot recommend this establishment to other visitors. But given the positive quality of the other reviews, perhaps we simply had an anomalous experience for whatever reason. Finally, the wifi is quite good, though occasionally erratic. The heat is turned off at 10:30 pm, so if cold nights bother you, it could be a problem. But again, the bed was very comfortable and we always had a good night's sleep.

Very friendly and helpful host. The twin room was practical and had lovely decor and was clean. All facilities provided. The en suite shower was cold as there was no heating in there and the shower was tepid. But we only stayed one night so not such a huge problem. Comfy beds.
"Comfortable place to rest your head"
11/03/14 tartnjohn Olney, United Kingdom
Four of us stayed for 2 nights in comfortable rooms and our host Martin was welcoming and very helpful. Bearing in mind other reviews relating to late arrival, we were a bit apprehensive as a car breakdown could have made us miss the booking in window. A phone call as soon as we knew the vehicle was having to be taken off the road and other plans had to be put in place to get us to Durham seemed to do the trick and there was no problem. Left us convinced that the negative comments in other reviews may have been as a result of not respecting the situation which owners can find themselves in. Our room was quite large and certainly very comfortable. Wee bit cold during the night but the bedding was snug and warm. Lots of what seemed to be handmade twee throughout the house with plenty of Welcome (although the missing 'L' on one bedroom door had us smiling) Breakfasts were very good. Wide range for such small establishment and extremely tasty. Lovely thick towels but a bar of soap to compliment the small bottles of shampoo, body wash etc would have been useful. Location ideal for the car traveller as it is a bit 'out in the sticks' but for someone really only wanting it as a base - it is good. Excellent pub next door which does great food and has a fantastic atmosphere, so staying at the Moor End can enable you to leave the car in the B&B private hard standing which is in the Pub Car Park letting you enjoy a drink without the issue of driving home.
"Very Good Friendly B&B in Durham"

Clean, well-appointed rooms and very friendly, helpful proprietors. Martin and his wife went above and beyond, helping with our left luggage and a rental car. There's a good pub next door and it's an easy 10 minute bus ride to the city centre. Excellent breakfast. Can't go wrong here!

We only spent two nights in the house, but Martin was lovely with us and our children. The house is compfortable and nice. And breakfast was wonderful for the kids. Best hot chocolate ever tasted!! We hope to come back soon.

The proprietors of this delightful B&B should be proud of what they have achieved in this beautiful little guest house! The rooms are lovely; nicely decorated with some wonderful finishing touches. Breakfast was lovely and the owners very friendly and helpful. On our next trip to Durham I wouldn't even consider looking anywhere else, this is where we will stay.

We stayed 2 nights for a family wedding . We found the B&B to be very nicely decorated and the rooms were spotlessly clean . A very nice hot breakfast every morning with a variety of cereals too. There is off road parking behind the bed and breakfast too . A good base to explore durham .

My boyfriend and I stayed her for 2 nights in August. We received a very warm welcome and were very pleased with the comfortable room. The breakfast was very nice too. The decor was nice, with pleasant touches. The pub next door has cheap deals too!
