I liked my room a lot in this 1816 historical hotel. It was neat, clean, seemed newly painted and the crowning & door & window frames were all reworked, stained. The room had a strong lock on it that needed an actual key to get into it; when given that key on sign-in I was also given a key to the door to the outside. My bed was a little high too get […] into but comfortable and I slept well. Marsha, the owner, told me she had been there 7 yrs when I asked and she also works a PT job at the tourism dept in town. It is located on Front St facing the Ohio River. I asked for a ground floor & that was honored; there was no elevator. Room #3 is where I stayed. Marsha told me an Amish man was coming to work on the outside porch. The bathroom in my room was modern with a stand alone shower, no tub. But that was fine with me. For breakfast we were served mini danish and coffee to pick up at our convenience just outside my room. I could not hear the couple in the room next to me unless I was in the hallway, but heard someone moving above on 2nd floor occasionally. As there was no one downstairs when I arrived, I ended up calling them to let them know I was there. The Rising Star Casino with hotel was just about 3 blocks away, but on a Friday night I would have to have paid around $200; it was about 1/3 that at Empire House. There is a pizza place nearby as well as a "fine dining restaurant" just down the street. Read more

Located right on the Ohio river this family-owned hotel is a unique experience. Its an old hotel and quirky but nice folks and very cool history and view from second story porch More like a funky b&b than a chain hotel.

A very nice place to stay, especially for those who appreciate old homes and hotels that are period correct and kept in excellent condition. The room was obviously restored. The walls have been recovered with old style wall paper. There is antique furniture, and the bath has a genuine claw foot bath tub. The only item that was out of place was the television. […] As another guest stated, it reminds one of visiting grandma's house. Also, there is a great view of the Ohio River. You can sit on the front porch, or walk across the street to watch the boats and barges go by. Unfortunately, we did not meet the proprietors due to our rushed schedule. this is a very old and historical hotel, with beautiful view of the Ohio river. Porprietor is sweet and there if needed but makes things very simple for check in and out. Great location in Rising Sun, a neat little town for strolling after you lose all your money at the Rising Star casino, only 5 mintues away.

The Empire Hotel is a charming historic hotel right on the Ohio River. Our room was large with a lovely view of the river. i thought it was a different hotel,with the old style of how it was back in the day. Heat was a problem because of how old the place is. But their was a electic heater in the room, that helped alot.
