""Run down, shabby and not child friendly""
A run down shabby hotel that has a cheek to charge guests to stay! Booked 2 en-suite rooms - Room 9: shower held together with a piece of string and didn't work. Dated and not clean. Room 14: no cold temperature dial to regulate the water so couldn't use it either. Now reading other reviews, it appears these problems have been there for years, just […] never been fixed. Damp on a lot of walls, mould on the ceiling in Room 14, smells like stale smoke everywhere! Had to use the communal antiquated bathroom - not any better. Fire escape rusty and covered in moss, carpets taped down in hallway. Bed lumpy and Sat night karaoke sounds like its in the room. Smokers directly below bedroom window so everything can be heard. Young staff serving meals very pleasant and efficient. However chef (I assumed was owner) liked to be heard - lecturing her staff in front of customers and demanding across the restaurant at us to get children seated as they were in the way - they weren't but I didn't argue in front of everyone about this (take note, our 18 month old had sat in a highchair for over 2 hours at this point and I had the cheek to let her out to play with the toys!!!) Very unprofessional. Food actually was excellent so its a real shame I have to rate this so low. I knew it wasn't 5 star but you expect a hotel to be comfortable, clean and have the en-suite facilities you pay for. No-one around to complain to when we left. Worst hotel experience ever! We booked and pre paid for a double room with en-suite. On arrival we were told this was no longer available due to a problem with the room. We had no advance warning that our room type was not available. We were offered a twin room without en-suite as this was all that was available. We reluctantly viewed the room which was tired, wallpaper peeling, […] a few burn marks in the carpets, and a drawer full of clothes from the last guest who had stayed there. After a bit of discussion we decided not to stay, as this was not the room we had booked and paid for, nor were the standards of the accommodation up to our expectations. Although we were warned that it would be difficult to find alternative accommodation in the area, we left and found a lovely hotel not far away in the Muir of Ord. "Dated and one to miss"
Hotel needs a complete clean top to toe. Room had damp in the corner of the ceiling and despite asking there was no shower! Had a terrible night sleep not aided by couple with two yapping dogs in next room - why being dogs to a hotel if you know they won't be calm and behave? Felt sorry for foreign guests staying who must have laughed at dinner service […] - the waitress or barmaid didn't know what a peppercorn sauce was! Only decent thing was the breakfast but again the tables could have done with a good clean first! I'll give this a miss in future. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

We enjoyed our nights stay, all staff were very pleasant and welcoming, we just had a couple of niggles, the shower cubicle is in need of a steam clean and the mattress is so uncomfortable it needs to be renewed, apart from that the breakfast was 1st class and we would have no hesitation in staying again, our room was no.2Genuine Hotels.com guest review

I didnt expect a great deal for the money, but when you can get a Travelodge for less money, this was about ok for an over night stay.I had a room with a private bathroom (some have shared bathrooms). The shower didnt work as not enough pressure to flip the water from the tap into the shower hose.Bed was comfy, TV is old style and either the batteries […] in the Freeview box control were dead or the box just didnt work, so TV, pointless. The hotel and the room were a little bit tired, but I think this is reflected in the price. The service was good, as was the food - ideal for the one night business traveller, maybe not so good for the weekend leisure traveller.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

We booked the hotel for a two night Hogmany/Newyear break.Upon arrival we were informed that the hotel was going to be closed for the New Year but they would allow us to stay for Hogmany then we would have to leave the next day, his despite my checking twice the day before that everything was ok. We booked a dinner the night we arrived. This was dreadful. The […] starter pate was obviously a supermarket bought slab. The main course was Baked??? fillet steak and extremely over cooked along with re-heated vegetables. No true chef did this,I should point out that this hotel restaurent was billed as THE place to dine in Rosshire.I think not. Rooms very dated, bathroom shocking with no heating and a shower hanging half way down the bath that did not work. Can't fault the waitress who was left to look after us in the morning. She prepared a lovely traditional breakfast, the "chef" could learn a thing or two from her. She was also very sympathetic to our problems. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Very friendly staff and a great breakfast each morning!Genuine Expedia guest review
The bedroom was in poor condition. The toilet had a leak from the outflow, in the bedroom ceiling there was a very ugly stain where water had been leaking in from the roof. The bed was not very comfortable, and there was no mattress cover. The shower temperature could not be controlled as the control handle was missing, the temperature as set was too […] hot, almost unbearably so. "Misunderstanding a small blessing"
I expected the hotel to be located in Dingwall, as advertised. This hotel is at Conon Bridge, a tiny village 2-3 miles out side Dingwall and without a car, a bus service is the only transport available. There is no train connection at Conon Bridge. The staff was adament that the hotel was in Dingwall as advertised so we started off on the wrong foot. […] As it turned out, the Conon Bridge locals were extremely hospitable and the local pub across the street an entertainment. So my Conon Bridge experience ended up being a highlight of my trip.

This hotel is very dated! The people were lovely, friendly and chatty, which made up for several bad points. The mattress was awful, felt every spring, came away with a painful body. The showers cold water knob was broken therefore it was a hot shower in fact it was scolding, couldn't turn it down. Went for a drink to the bar, the glass I got was dirty, lipstick and food on it!! The breakfast in the morning was nice, and the staff were helpful. Don't think I'll go back.
"One night was enough"
08/17/14 JohnRumming Calne, England, United Kingdom
Checked in on our Scotland tour and didn't know what to expect. We thought it had to be something a bit special at £90 for the night, something clean and tidy like a Premier Inn or the less expensive Hilton range. Well what met us was certainly a shock... Restaurant and breakfast was good but the rooms are very drab, dirty and unkept. In our room we had mildew in one corner of the ceiling, mildew in both bedroom and bathroom windows. Yes, I agree that condensation causes mildew but a quick wipe around stops it growing. Our en-suite bathroom floor tiles were lifting by the bath, what's underneath them we can only guess. Across the corridor was a communal bathroom and I couldn't resist checking out the bath tiles.. . I would certainly not recommend this "hotel" to my worst enemy
"Hotel a bit run down but food was good"
06/10/14 AlanBrice newcastle upon tyne, uk
A group of seven of us were cycling to John O'Groats and stopped here on the way north. We had a warm welcome from the staff. The rooms weren't all ensuite. My room wasn't and there were two toilets and bath / shower rooms nearby. The rooms needed a fair bit of looking after - my window had some rotten wood and it wouldn't have been wise to try to open it. I had a good shower in one of the showers but the other one gave rather variable temperatures during the shower. I was a little concerned about the age of the electric wiring ad the need for extension leads - but in fact everything worked fine. Possibly because the window couldn't be opened, my room did have a slight smell to it. The food for the evening meal was surprisingly good, rather stylish and imaginative. The breakfast was substantial and very satisfying. An odd mix really. With a bit of investment this would be a lovely place.
"Frosty reception at Conon Bridge Hotel Bar"
05/04/14 A-M M Perth, United Kingdom
I had dinner with some friends last week in the bar of the Conon Bridge Hotel - I had steak pie which was OK but I have had better. This bar/hotel's real down fall is the frosty woman behind the bar who served us (face like thunder, long blond hair). It was like something from a sitcom, she sighed and slammed the till shut when we asked for something that required her to make an effort (to split the bill). Customer service is really important to me and as such I wouldn't return to this place because I can honestly say we were 100% not made to feel welcome and indeed, inspite of being paying customers we were treated as an inconvenince.
"Clean friendly hotel."

My husband and I stopped at this hotel Easter weekend for three nights, the room was clean and comfortable, with clean bedding and clean towels everyday, the shower was poor but bathroom kept clean, meals were good ,especially the breakfast, the staff were lovely and made us welcome , yes the hotel is need of a little TLC but overall we really enjoyed our stay. The young girls that worked serving the evening meals were so hardworking and polite, we were impressed that they just seemed to get on with things with no pressure from any of the older staff who obviously knew they could manage. Can't help thinking a little money spent on this hotel would make it more desirable.

Visited tonight for first time in a year or so with my husband and daughter of 4 and 1/2. Can't speak of Christine highly enough she was fantastic, so friendly, welcoming and cheery, our daughter loved her and she was so good with her - she is an asset to the hotel - I hope she is appreciated! Beef Burger & chicken nuggets were good and scott (the chef) the veg curry was delicious only negative was Brie starter needed a bit more flavour but for £10.95 for 2 courses was very good.

We visited once in passing and now are becoming regulars to this friendly and cosy place for dinner. Very well prepared and presented with beautifully cooked vegetables. Staff were friendly and efficient never allowing our glasses to run dry. Highly recommended for good quality dining at a very reasonable cost.
"poor quality of food"
10/13/13 Ritchie D Inverness, United Kingdom
after a nice walk around Rogie fall, my wife and I decided to go for a nice country pub lunch. so we thought that conon bridge would be the one....... how wrong we were. the most taste less food ever came across. the beef was sliced cold and reheated, the so called gravy was only water and some kind of thickening agent. the frozen vegetables were translucent and taste less, the roast potatoes i would have called them yesterdays deep fried potatoes and then the home made yorkshire pudding did not rise it was more like a pancake. a pint, a coke and the meal was £26, which is a disgrace when the food does not stand to the price expectation.
"Quaint traditional scottish hotel with excellent service and value for money"
We stayed at conon bridge hotel on june 7th & 8th 2013 , we used the hotel as a base to enable us to ride on the very picturesque highland railway , from Dingwall to the Kyle of Lochalsh, and then the service bus from Lochalsh to Portree on Skye and back again. The hotel was charming, set in a beautiful village next to a large river. The staff were very friendly, the decor and furnishings were quaint and and gave this old hotel its charming atmosphere. The food was excellent, with a full traditional scottish breakfast , which my wife & thoroughly enjoyed,, because we were just B & B we had to pay for the evening meal , but these were excellent and exceptional value, highly recommended. We cant thank the hotel & staff enough for making our stay so pleasureable, and highly recommend this hotel as a place to stay. Bob & Jeanette , Darvel, East Ayrshire.
"Great potential, but highly disappointing"
09/21/13 GeorgeJames2000 Stirling, United Kingdom
We stayed at this hotel for one night in May for a weekend trip to the highlands. From pictures we saw online of the hotel and our initial impressions of its outside quaintness when we first arrived, we had high expectations of our stay. However, as time went on, this optimism did not last long. Once entering the hotel, we could see many areas where minor repairs are needed and in some cases, short term solutions, such as carpet squares on the ceiling to cover up water leaks in the bar area were clear to see. Our room was basic, but clean. However, the TV reception was terrible and when it came to the evening, we were unable to close the curtains. Additionally, that night we could hear everything that was going on downstairs on a busy Saturday evening in a pub; shouting and very loud music reverberated around the room. We were aware that the room did not have an en-suit toilet, however we would have expected it to be cleaner, have hand soap to wash our hands with and a toilet paper dispenser of some kind. Also, the shower (a tube connected to the bath tap) temperature was very difficult to control, so much so that I badly burnt the top of my scalp. We were also fortunate enough to have eaten at the Conon Bridge Hotel. This entailed a three course meal of warm microwaved dishes in an empty restaurant area with the owners, who were not the most friendly to their new guests. Just a word of warning to other travellers - If you are staying this area, make sure you get to a restaurant by 7:30pm at the latest as every restaurant we tried to go to in surrounding area (15 miles), closed its kitchen at 8pm or earlier. On a positive note, our breakfast was adequate (only slightly greasy) and was served in a nicer room to that of dinner. Overall, we were very disappointed with our stay at this hotel. The building is located in a lovely location and has great architecture. It has such potential to be a top rate hotel, but invariably falls far short of that description. For what we paid, I would expect far more and a much cleaner & better kept establishment. It is safe to say I will not be returning to this hotel in the future.
