We were part of a small tour. We arrived to find that they had overbooked for our first night and we whisked away to another hotel for one night (a pretty nice one). Besides that the beds were very hard and maintenance needs took days (not hours) to be responded to.

The National Hotel is extremely well situated in Jerusalem; with just a 5 minute walk to the Old City. We stayed for 1-week and came to grow VERY FOND of the staff. The front desk is managed by Nirvana (although you would swear she runs the whole hotel). She is absolutely lovely, considerate, well-spoken, and totally focused on quality and efficiency. […] She greeted us both by name the moment we walked into the hotel (yes, even before checking in). She made us feel like we were the most special guests during our trip by offering us recommendations for tours and guides, extra towels for our trip to the Dead Sea, bottled water, foreign currency change, and the list goes on. Sammy heads up housekeeping - he was always around making sure our room was clean and that we had everything we needed. Since we arrived during a Jewish holy week, Nirvana helped to customize our excursions to lessen the impact of religious site closures. Thank you, Nirvana, for everything - we had a marvelous time thanks to you and your team. We enjoyed our breakfasts and dinners at the hotel. The food was professionally prepared and presented in enticing, well-decorated displays. The neighborhood was only rated a 4/5 because there was limited restaurant choice - fortunately, the hotel had excellent food at reasonable prices. Amazing front desk service! Hotel was clean and well done. Location is in East Jerusalem. Always felt 100% safe but could see how some people would be fearful staying in this neighborhood. I'm actually glad I did because I discovered a part of the city I would not have having stayed on the Jewish side.

The area outside of the hotel is far too crowded, noisy and overwhelmed by the police to be recognized as a relaxing or welcoming neighborhood. The staff a attentive and friendly. The room was nice and clean. On the other hand, in the bathroom, the toilet is placed in front of the sink. So there's no place to stand if you'd like to wash hands or shave! […] Rather odd acrobatics to do your daily chore. The water in the bath tub would not drain! In a mattre of two minutes I was (high) ankle deep in soapy water, which took 10 minutes to drain. Not a pleasant experience. I am well versed with various type of breakfasts at the Israeli hotels. I am sad to say that this experience was well below par. I would not recommend overnight stay at this hotel. Read more

First off the Staff at this hotel are second to none. I have never seen a Staff work harder, go out of there way, and be overall willing to bend over backwards as these people. Amazing. I was having issues booking my bus tickets to continue my vacation because it was only in Hebrew and the Staff took there time to walk me through it and make it happen. […] The hotels location is perfect for exploring Jerusalem. All major sites are within a short walking distance and cab fair is decent from this location as well. The room was nice with quality air conditioning (40C at the time of our visit) and was a good stop to crash after a day of exploring. The staff at the National Hotel Jerusalem were incredible! Nirvana, the hotel manager, was wonderfully helpful with suggestions about must-see sights, restaurants, and guided tours to other sights, among other things. She made our stay absolutely delightful. The hotel and rooms were clean. The breakfast each morning was great. Loved the experience.

First of all, what you have to realize about hotels in Jerusalem is that most likely they will be in very old neighborhoods (presuming you want proximity to Old City) and that takes a toll when talking about area and the level of comfort. Given that National Hotel Jerusalem is as good as it gets. 10 min relaxed walk from Old City walls, nice neighborhood […] (it does not look like it, but it is - I was walking way pass midnight and did not see anything remotely threatening; besides, there is a big police station a few blocks away), western standard rooms and really helpful stuff (Nyrvana was particularly great, helping with every issue and just radiating positivity). Second of all, your impressions are heavily based on your perception and if you expect the same from a 4 star hotel in Paris, NY or Rome and the one in Jerusalem, than... prepare to pay more and not get what you want:) To sum it up, this hotel is a great choice as your "mothership" for exploring Old City and all the wonders of the Holy Land. There is a parking lot...a MUST HAVE if you are renting a car in Jerusalem. The staff is extremely helpful and attends to needs in a very timely manner. Great hotel, Mohamed the hotel manager met us on the sidewalk to help with our luggage. Nirvana at the front desk arraigned a tour and taxis. Very helpful. This hotel is certainly not a 4 star as advertisied. I understand we are 5000 year old world (Jerusalem) but I have in my own personal career promoted for decades, common international star ratings. Hotels.com shoud not promote this hotel as five star. The staff was excellent and tried to do eveything possible. Without them we would have moved out and […] the fact that we were out touring all day and only returned to sleep. They did eveything possible to assist but cannot overcome the filthy carpetds in the hallways and th less than hygenic rooms. The breakfast was good and restaurant appeaared clean. When I travel I like anonymity however the National Hotel actually made me feel like a family member. From check in to check out the staff could not do enough to ensure I was happy and had all of my needs met. The standard of customer service was he highest of any hotel I have been in and carried out with genuine warmth.

Very pleasant and good value hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff. Rooms very high quality. Superbly located for access to the Old City (<5 min walk from Herod's gate entrance) and other sites in the East part of Jerusalem. (NB this hotel is in the East, not the West part of Jerusalem; the two halves of the city have quite different characters).

I chose National because I read it is close to the old city in a safe area, and I was pleased with everything there: the hotel is no more than 5 minute walk from the walls of the old city; the area is safe even in the evening, the hotel is well-managed, the staff was very professional […] and eager to help, the food was always fresh and delicious, and our room was very quiet and clean. The guests may have an option to try buffet for supper, I haven`t ate there, but everything looked and smelled good, though I liked the restaurant on the 4-th floor: they serve really good local and international cuisine. The service was superb. When planning a trip, I wanted to visit Masada and Dead Sea in one day, and we had a private tour arranged for a good price. In general, whenever I had questions or requests, the staff was there to help. Thank you for your hospitality and kindness, it was greatly appreciated. Whenever I am in Jerusalem again, and I would not hesitate to stay at your hotel again. The reception desk was perhaps the best service I've ever received! A staff member by the name Nirvana Shuaibi went above and beyond to make our stay in Jerusalem special and memorable. The breakfast...which is served in at the rooftop terrace (and included in cost) was very good! Staff at the hotel is very friendly and helpful! The room was spotlessly clean and well ventilated. The hotel is less than 5 minutes walking from old city. In my opinion this is a safe area although the hotel is in eastern Jerusalem. After sunset streets gets empty and you are maybe the only person on the street. However I never felt insecure or had […] any safety related problems. Streets are walkable even in the middle of the night. There is a nice restaurant called Philadelphia about 100 meters from the hotel our wise it can be difficult to find restaurants for late diners. The hotel is excellent value and very well located in eastern Jerusalem with old city and Mount of Olives in walking distance. If you go for the night clubs, high quality food or a beer or two you might be better off in western Jerusalem. Read more

We were a bit worried due to the location but tried it because it is close to the old city. It is less than 10 minutes walk to the old city. This hotel is clean and the area is extremly safe. I have two teenage daughters and they had a lot of fun going back and forth to the old city on their own and felt very safe. Vii anlände på kvällen till Jerusalem och trodde att vi hade hamnat mitt ett område som man lämpligen inte ska gå ensam i. I detta område ligger hotellet som en liten juvel och vi blev direkt omhändertagna av personalen. Innan vår ankomst fick vi många vänliga mail från Nirvana om hur man lämpligen kan ta sig från flygplatsen i Tel Aviv till Jerusalem. […] Alla anställda på hotellet var mycket trevliga och sa hej varje gång man såg dem. Som så många andra redan har skrivit så vill vi framförallt berömma Nirvana för hennes service i receptionen. Inte att förglömma städ- och serveringspersonal service. We arrived in the late afternoon in a rental car with a 2 year old baby. We were met by very helpful staff, that came and fetched our bags and parked the car for us at their own free parking space. What impressed us the most was that the Hotel Manager himself took the time to follow us up to our room, to check that everything was in order. All the people […] we met was lovely and very helpful in many ways. They made phone calls to check the weather at the Dead Sea and gave us lots of tips on how to get the most out of our trip. We had three nights at the hotel, but we only dined at their restaurant on one of them. We regret that we did not have all meals her, because the food was amazing. During ten days in Israel, this was the best meal. Four chefs in the kitchen and again the Hotel Manager came to check that we enjoyed the food. The room was clean and we got a fruit basket and water bottles on arrival. The location in east Jerusalem is perfect if you want to see all exciting sides of this multicultural and multireligious city. And we did not pay much neither for the room or for dining. This is the hotel we will stay at next time in Jerusalem. Also very easy to drive here with a GPS. Read more
