On the plus side: Staff friendly and helpful, bedroom was up to date, nice toiletries, towels, comfy bed. Didn't get to use the leisure facilities as they close early in the evening. Dinner also wasn't an option as this is only available until 19:30, from memory. Having spent most of the year in various hotels on business, I have seen the good and not-so-good. […] Whilst accepting that I spent a night in peak holiday season, this was still the most expensive night of the year and the poor value is the main reason for my disappointment. I felt ripped off. It was also a let-down for the following reasons: The hotel communal areas, hallways etc are straight out of another era and very dated. The bathroom was dated, lino curling at the edges, shower on the meek side. Breakfast was poor. Ordered poached eggs and the yolk was hard. Sausages of the cheap variety. The hotel obviously survives on coach parties and hence the guest mix is 90% over-60s, 10% others. I guess these groups receive heavily-discounted rates, which might make the place just about bearable. Read more

We arrived after a really long trip down from Newcastle upon tyne about 830pm. We were really looking forward to getting in the swimming pool and jacuzzi after a long drive. This was the only reason we booked the hotel for the pool facilities. When we arrived we asked if we could go in the pool, only to be told the pool shuts at 730! Not letting that […] get us down we said never mind could we book into your restaurant please...only to be told that was closed too, great. The hotel did not have a pleasant smell about it either. The rooms are not sound proof at all, we could hear every word of a conversion which the couple next door were having as we were trying to get to sleep. When we eventually got into the pool the next morning, the jacuzzi was only just warm and the sauna was off. Apparently you have to ask reception the day before if you want this putting on! Also if you were ever staying there by yourself, you would probably not make it into the pool as there must be two people in the pool due to there not being a lifeguard. If i had come by myself i would have been even more disappointed as i didnt see anyone else using the pool. This hotel is out dated and is VERY expensive for the quality you get.
