Ramada Apollo Amsterdam Centre - Amsterdam

I was researching hotels in Amsterdam for a while and so glad I've chosen Ramada Apollo. It's new, super modern 17 story hotel with very good service and location. Important things to know: hotel has a complimentary pickup shuttle van from the AMS airport (you have to go to the Hotel Shuttle bus stop A9 outside of the terminals, it runs every 40 minutes […] and fits 8 people), shuttle costs 5 euro pp to bring you back from the hotel to the airport and needs to reserved at the front desk to make sure you have a seat as it only fits 8 people; tram #13 stops right outside the hotel and it brings you directly to the Central Station and other important sites in the old town, the ride is about 15 minutes; hotel charges city tax of 5.70 euro pp per day; hotel has a restaurant and a bar on the 17 floor with the great city view, the food is good but expensive; there is a grocery store about 15 min walk from the hotel; rooms are American size with seating couch and the desk; the beds are pretty big; electric kettle with tea and instant coffee provided in the room; hotel staff was very polite and friendly, they helped us with city maps and transportation tips; there is a complimentary storage room for your luggage before or after check-in/out if needed. The front desk staff NEVER smiles or greet you. They are very rude and not even willing to help you with anything. If you ever have an emergency during your stay, you're on your own. The room wasn't cleaned before our arrival (even the teapot was disgustingly dirty with leaves in it) and it didn't have any heat. If you want room service, don't bother […] to call because they are never going to pick up the phone. NEVER order a piña colada on the 17th floor because it sucks. My friend ordered it and send it back for another one, the bartender send the same drink back to her (we were watching his every move), just with more coconut flavor (what? In NYC that is a big no-no). You can't even order a coffee to drink it in your room... you have to drink it on the 17th floor. My room was very cold, i expressed this to the staff and they acted as if it were a joke that they hear all the time. I ate at the buffet and was told that they would bring me something special as i am a vegetarian. The risotto they brought was disgusting and i could not eat one bite, and they did not comp my check.

The tower has been converted to a 17 floors hotel. It has been totally re- novated and with 4 elevators the wait for them is never long. Everything in my room was brand new and comfortable; the bed was a true double size; there is space to hang up coats, 3 large and deep shelves and 2 compartments including the one in the desk. One desk, a chair and […] a window seat. I travel solo, so the size of the room was good but, if there are two persons, they may have to dance around each other. The bathroom was roomy and you have to learn to deal with the shower. Turn the shower head towards the wall, and since it is a hand held shower head use it as such to rinse. This way you have control of the water and the bath floor remains dry. Don't splash until you get home!! Not as big deal. The tram is around the corner and it takes exactly 15 minutes to get to Central station. All the employees were very pleasant and professional and the overall service was really excellent!! The breakfast buffet was plentiful but agree with others that it is on the expensive side; however I didn't find any other hotel in Amsterdam for this price w/ breakfast included like I have in many other countries. Excellent wifi in the room and free of charge. The area around the hotel is quiet and that's what I prefer. I will stay in this hotel again and recommend it to others. The cleaning service was horrible. Some how I managed to book my 13 day stay one day short, so I had to rebook one more day, and they charged me a higher rate,management was rude and unwilling to work with me, they told me to get online and try to book it cheaper with a travel agent. There was no top sheet on the bed. When I asked about it they told me they did not use sheets unless they were specifically requested. I did then request them but never received them. The comforter on the bed was too warm at times and I requested a light blanket to use instead but was told they did not have any blankets. Overall, the hotel is new, clean and the rooms are comfortable. Parking is available so this is a plus as it is not right downtown so difficult to find parking. The public transportation by tram into the city center is very easy and quick. I stayed in an executive room. It was large and spacious. The room was very comfortable. The bed was great and it was really nice to have in room coffee and tea available. Also, the decor of the room was nice. Everything in the room was clean and updated. Make sure to take the free shuttle to the hotel. We stayed at the hotel for the Europa League Final. It was well located for the tram which took about 15 mins into the town centre and the staff were friendly and helpful. The bar on the top floor has lovely views and we had a great corner room with views of the Park.

In fact, the route goes through a couple of nice areas and then to the Westermarkt - ideal for canal walks and visiting Anne Frank's house. This is the first time we stayed at this hotel but I will certainly stay again. The rooms were very comfortable with lovely views over Amsterdam. Well worth staying at just to see the views especially from the lounge on the 17th floor it was amazing. I felt it was good value for what we got. Would certainly recommend to family and friends.

Great hotel for the most part. Our room wasn't super spacious but was laid out in true European style, so an efficient use of space. My only complaints are that the beds are not spring mattresses, they are foam on top of a type of box spring. I didn't find it terribly comfortable; the other complaint is that the pillows are too thick and puffy. This hotel was very easy to find with the well planned out tram system. In a maximum of 20 minutes from Amsterdam Central you arrive at a tram stop that is a 2 minute walk to the hotel. The hotel is situated in a quiet area with a nice little park surrounding it. Once in the hotel we were greeted by pleasant and informative staff. The reception and […] common areas of the hotel were designed well and kept clean and tidy. There seemed to be a mix of guests, from people on business trips, sometimes in large groups, to groups of 20-30 somethings and couples. With all this in mind the hotel was so peaceful that you would never have noticed. As we walked into our room we found where the hotel was trying a little too hard; the TV displayed a welcome message with our names on and had elevator style music playing. We had a king size bed and a panoramic view. The bathroom was large and the facilities and upkeep were fantastic. We didn't try the bar and restaurant as we found it too expensive and pretentious and wanted to experience Amsterdam. My only complaint would be that they could be reducing their amount of potential guests as this is a completely non-smoking site even though they don't seem to care if you smoke just outside the premises. All in all I would definitely recommend this hotel, it was perfect to stay at as a couple. Thank you Ramada and to all the staff who helped us enjoy our time there. Read more

This was sold as a new hotel to me, but is actually a newly fitted out hotel, in what appears to be an older building on the edge of the Amsterdam ring road. The building is on 2008 google map pictures with another name on top. It became obvious when you looked at the smaller details that this hotel was fitted out in a hurry with little thougt as to […] the design of certain elements and corners were cut to finish it. There is still work to do on the grounds for example, alot of the images used by the hotel are not actual pictures but artistic impressions. The staff confirmed to me that the project went over budget and there had been problems. Overall this was not an issue, but I expected better. A number of service and staff knowledge issues became apparent during our stay, while "most" of the staff were friendly and helpful, there was inconsistency in what was said and I felt there was a degree of making it up as they went along when I raised a couple of issues. The location was not an issue in the day time, but getting back at night was! Taxis cost 22 to 28 euro's at night and other than cycling or a 45min to an hour walk, is the only way back. All in all the value for money at the hotel was fine, maybe a little over priced and not that great when you take all the additional transport costs into account. I would advise looking around and comparing the cost to some of the older hotels with a better location. Also note that Amsterdam's hotel tax is not included. Read more
