"Run far away from here"
What a joke. Don't do it. Brought my wife and mother and was told I was getting a multiple room, junior suite. Nope....two king beds side by side. Don't get me wrong I love my 70 something mother, but this is Hawaii, romance, etc. needless to say we moved asap, still battling as they are trying to charge me a full day extra as a penalty. I will never pay my full amount prior on hotels.com again. Very misleading and smashed into a residential area.

"Total relaxation with a great view"
The resort is in a residential neighborhood, which at first was odd, but easy access to the main road and great for a quiet kayak trip. The room itself was a nice surprise in its size, especially compared to the small hotel rooms common in Waikiki. It had a kitchen, dinette area, living room with TV, nice bathroom and a large private lanai with mountain and ocean views. The staff was quite welcoming, helpful, accommodating, friendly. The breakfast buffet is included and was very good. Coffee - good coffee - is available starting at 6am. The resort offers a dinner buffet on a few nights of the week and I'm glad we opted for it. Besides the good food and free Mai Tai, the entertainer is a native Hawaiian with a lot of interesting tidbits of knowledge we found quite helpful.

"Nice resort tucked away from the busy tourism"
We liked the quiet neighborhood and the boys enjoyed going to the little city park on the peninsula. The morning breakfast was amazing and the view from the dining area equally so. The room was spacious and met all of our needs. The only problem was the walls were so thin that we could hear our neighbors easily when they were talking at a normal level. I am sure they could hear us as well. The only other issue was that house keeping kept giving us fewer towels than the number of people in our room - otherwise no complaints. The snorkeling near the hotel was not an option due to the high winds but the kayaking into the nearby back bay was fun.

"Notable Plusses & Minuses"
Downside -- TOO EXPENSIVE FOR THE SETTING. The setting is very mixed. It is on a muddy backwater more than the ocean. Rundown neighborhood. the room ACs were loud and one didn't seem to work properly. With an 11am check-out, we asked for 45 minutes late stay and were told no. We then asked for a 15 minute late stay and were told no. (A first ever for us.) They neglected to mention early on that there is a $25 for 2 hours charge for SUP paddleboards. Totally inadequate lighting in the dark rooms. UPSIDE: Terrific breakfast. Very clean room. Nice balconies with views and chairs. Very nice kitchen. Fairly good activities and pool, etc. Free kayaks to use

"Gives Paradise a bad name..."
Located on a slum backstreet, this "resort" is pretending to be worth the outrageous 4-5 star prices. Formerly an army barracks, it has been much improved. Our room had excellent bedding, silk curtains and an adequate kitchenette, but had serious failings; being inherently a dark, dark space with primarily low wattage overhead lighting and only one bedside lamp in our $375 room. Surprisingly, the only way to reach our room was by many outdoor, steep, concrete steps while carrying HEAVY bags, and while in our 70's. A built-in $25/day hospitality fee wasn't offset by the "complimentary" breakfast, which included inedible unripe melon, mealy apples, overcooked turkey bacon, vegan sausage and cold waffles. Owner needs to compare his facility to the competition even considering his hard work improving an old facility in a very poor neighborhood.

Aloha, Thank you for taking time to write this review. As far as we know, this was never an army barrack, it was a functioning resort before our owners bought it about 5 years ago. The new owners put in a lot of time and money to improve the property from what is was previously. We are sorry to hear you did not enjoy your experience with us. The owners want to provide a nutritious and healthy breakfast so you can get the right fuel in your body to start the day off right. Sorry to hear the offerings did not agree with you, as many other guests have raved about the breakfast. Despite your experience with us, we hope that you were able to enjoy our beautiful island and take home many fond memories. Have a very Happy New Year! Earl

"Not a resort, careful which room you're assigned."
My husband and I were on a 7 day cruise 4 islands and were spending our last 2 ni. before flying home. We spent 1 ni. Turtle Bay Resort - Awesome - north shore (and our last night at Paradise Bay Resort. We thought the GPS was wrong. Resort across the street from homes whose owners not interested in curb appeal. We booked w/Expedia that was now listing our room $100 less. Front desk clerk said she would honor price but Expedia would have to contact her. They did and she refused to credit us until I gave her a hard time. Became aware of resort because of Expedia and their prices are much lower than if you book directly, so beware! Clerk said, "our room was one of her favorites, very private and secluded." Should have realized something was up! 24 steps to our room with suitcases and up again the next morning to our car - no bell hop. Room was square box with tiny 3 glass slat windows you could not see out of. No headboard, bed stuck up against the wall. 1 table for nightstand, none on other side of bed. No lamp on nightstand, so you turn off the overhead kitchen or fan light on wall in kitchen and find way to bed in dark. Mold on bathroom floor near shower. One panel window curtain in bath, must be using other panel in another room! All mismatched furniture - One half tall pantry cabinet next to bed and other in bathroom free standing (could easily tip over). No vanity area. Sit on bar chair or bed. Amenities only offered certain days or nights. No luxury here!

Aloha , Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your experience here. By no means to we advertise that we have luxury suites and we do not compare ourselves to Turtle Bay. They are a fine resort, but we offer something totally different and more true Hawaii. As with all hotels and airlines, our rates change and vary sometimes minute by minute. I'm glad we were able to accommodate the new rate and it is policy to make sure Expedia is aware of the rate change that we are now honoring contrary to our contracted rate. I am sorry you didn't ask for a manager, so we could help make it right while you were here. With Warmest Aloha, Earl

"Stay like the locals"
I felt very claustrophobic while inside the room - there was a barrier of trees that obstructed the "view". The view from the breakfast area is beautiful. You must drive the car to everything, including the beach. The bay is quite a distance from the hotel unless you kayak or paddleboard from the small channel at the hotel to the bay. Every member of the staff was the friendliest you will meet on the island. Actually they were exceptional. My room was beneath the kitchen, so I was awakened early in the mornings with them getting breakfast ready.

"Beautiful and tranquil experience"
After four nights at Disney's Aulani, we were looking for an experience far away from the glitz and crowds of Waikiki and the leeward side of Oahu. Paradise Bay Resort was perfect. Peaceful and relaxing, but with access to recreation (kayaks and SUP) and with a fantastic view of part of Kane'ohe Bay and the Koolau Mountains. The resort staff are very friendly and accommodating. Dinner nights are small and intimate, with Chef Pedro appearing to introduce his dishes. Some reviewers have expressed uncertainty about the neighborhood. It's simple. Rather than being in the midst of hotel high-rises and overpriced shopping that you can find in ANY resort area, Paradise Bay Resort is embedded in a typical Hawaiian residential neighborhood. You might make friends with a local dog, as we did, and please make sure to check under your rental car for snoozing kitties. It's rustic. It's beautiful. It's Hawai'i.

"WE CAN'T WAIT TO GO BACK!!!"
We only got to stay one night at this "off the beaten path" little boutique resort. I read all the reviews prior and can understand some of the negative ones BUT overall Paradise Bay Resort is a keeper! the rooms are all very nice, the breakfast they provide every morning is WAAAAY better than some of the restaurants we paid to eat at and the little things that come with your stay make this place so nice - like the kayaks you can take out on bay or the boogie boards, snorkel gear and the pool is nice and not in the direct sunlight. We will go back. Thank you staff at Paradise Bay. p.s. I was given a nice upgrade upon arrival which made us feel extra special!

"Perfect place to relax!"
I stayed at Paradise Bay to run "Spartan Trifecta", so I was not looking for a fancy, night club type resort. I got a very quiet room overlooking the bay and mountains. Very clean, comfortable, with outstanding customer service. Everyone was so nice and always cheerfully responded to my strange requests (fresh ginger, place to rinse off muddy clothing, copies, etc, etc). Free breakfast was excellent. Parking was a challenge, but not that big of a deal. I loved this place and will return someday. I cannot thank the staff enough-everyone was so friendly, knowledgeable, and kind. Great recommendations for food, services, etc.

The hotel was great. They need to invest in some new AC units. Ours was incredibly loud and never really cooled the room. We met at least one couple who left because they could not take it anymore. "Very Hot Room, uncomfortable experience"
The hotel is in a bad, unsafe neighborhood with many residential houses collecting cans and bottles to sell at a recycling place presumably. The nearest market is a 15 minute walk through a road surrounded by dense trees which feels somewhat unsafe. The room was very hot because they only had 1 tiny air conditioning unit to keep the bedroom, "living room" and bathroom cool. It was like a furnace. We couldn't sleep that night The next day, I asked to change to another room but the staff didn't want to accommodate my request. It was a very bad experience I have ever had !!!

"Quiet escape from the bustle of Honolulu"
Just returned home from 10 days on Oahu. Paradise Bay is located in a residential neighborhood. However, when you go down into the facility, you feel as though you are in the middle of the rain forest. The view of the mountain /trees at breakfast time is breathtaking. The resort itself is quiet which can be quite nice after a day of Waikiki traffic. The staff was helpful, booking several activities for us during our stay. The food we ate at the resort was average. Daily breakfast is included with the room. Oatmeal, fruit, eggs, sausage, juice, water and coffee. They offer a nightly dinner and activity. Friday, the day we attended, included a fire/knife show. Fish and chicken were on the menu for that evening- both were quite overcooked and dry. The show was lots of fun . The pool and bay are lovely. The resort has a fitness room, room for yoga, floating decks, kayaks, boat rides and laundry facilities. All in all, a lovely, quiet escape. Honestly, my one big complaint is that the parking is awful- there is a very steep hill that you have to go down to get to your space. You get down the hill to find that there is no parking. Most of our stay was very nice, however; the parking issues really impacted my review.

"All that glitters is not gold."
My stay was so disappointing. We were a military family that was PCSing out of Hawaii and looking forward to spending our last weeked in what appeared to be a very exotic location away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki. IT was not what we were expecting. It was a very different hotel compared to the beautiful website images online. It's really ashame because the staff is very cheerful and friendly and really do try to make your stay as comfortable as possible. What you can expect are spectacular views of the mountains, WONDERFYL breakfast, kayaking, tours, onsite fitness/yoga, the pool and extra activities as described from the website BUT the neighborhood is SKETCHY. I didn't exactly live in the best part of town in Hawaii, either, and I thought this location was really bad. My husband and I were nervous leaving our car parked out on the street because the onsite parking was limited. I also like to add that other reviewers are commenting that they loved it here because they were experiencing the REAL Hawaii but the REAL Hawaii does not require that you feel unsafe in your surroundings. I really wish that I could say that our stay was everything I was hoping for but sadly it wasn't.

"Not typical but still wonderful"
This is definitely not your typical Waikiki hotel. 1. Be aware of the location about 35 minutes away from Waikiki on the eastern shore of Oahu. It is situated in a more rural part of the island though there are still convenient gas stations/restaurants nearby. 2. The hotel is secluded and peaceful, great for families looking to remove themselves from the touristy Waikiki area 3. The staff and rooms were up to par for the price we paid. Clean and friendly. 4. Free continental breakfast, free yoga, free parking, free rental of snorkeling and kayaking gear. But no beaches nearby. The surrounding area has much more of a tropical jungle feel than the arid southern shore. 5. I recommend staying in Waikiki for the high class shops and restaurants then staying here for a few days to cleanse yourself of that tourist daze before heading back from vacation.

"WINTER GET AWAY"
The resort was a very nice, quiet area on the Windward side of the island. The only issue was not the resorts problem but the road signage was not very clear. Parking was a little tight but we always had a place to park by our room.
