It was supposed to be a non-smoking hotel but our room smelled like cigarette smoke immediately upon opening the door. Beds were comfortable and location was terrific.

"Great new hotel....customer needs work."
We were in awe of the hotel, its decor, cleanliness and amenities. The customer service was awful! It started with not filling our request for two beds...the guy at the front desk told us that's "never guaranteed", then when we requested a roll away he automatically said they were out of those as well. After some discussing and checking he said he'd […] found one and have it sent right up....we never saw it. The next morning we had requested breakfast between 8:45-9am, finally at 10am we called down and they said it was on it's way. For dinner that evening room service said our meal would be delivered in about 15 mins....45mins later still no dinner. It was just always something! "A few kinks to iron out"
There were a few kinks encounter during our stay. The first day we were out until 10pm and housekeeping had not cleaned our room. Then during the night, one of the hotel phones battery was not charging and the beeping woke us up. We did receive free breakfast passed for the remained of our stay and the serve at the restaurant was excellent and the food […] delicious. Hotel lobby was really nice. There was hair all over the bathroom floor and on the shower/bathtub walls. Also, our air conditioner didn't seem to work 100%. We had it all the way turned down and it still got kind of warm in there at night. Hotel lobby was nicely decorated and appealing. Room was also decorated tastefully and spacious with the beds being very comfortable. Only complaint is the Front desk check- which forms your first impression in most situations. Front desk clerk ("Shane") was very curt and snippy, insisting we did NOT have a reservation even after I showed her my Expedia […] receipt on my phone, with the confirmation number. It was only after 'Shane' finally called someone to verify our reservation and snidley chuckled over the phone with the person she called to confirm our reservation, did she indeed FIND our confirmed and paid reservation and assigned us our room. Put a bad taste in our mouths right off the start. "Whisper and Sleep."
I originally reserved a king, when I got them at 10pm (way pass the 3pm check in time) my room wasn't ready. They sent me to my room with the keys, except the cleaning staff was still in there cleaning it. You would think if they check in time was 3pm, the room would be ready at 10pm when we checked in. "The Renaissance Hotel Brings Hip to Baton Rouge"
This is a brand new incarnation of an older building and they've done an amazing job with it. The decor is hip sophistication, yet comfortable, from the cavernous lobby to the individual rooms. The rooms feature 8-foot ceilings, due to the building's age, but are well-appointed. We were upgraded to a suite, which featured not one, but two flat screen […] TVs, and two separate thermostats. The beds are comfortable, with fresh new linens and down comforters and pillows. The towels are big & thick, and bathroom vanity lighting is bright. Complimentary toiletries are by Aveda, and a pair of bathrobes awaited in the closet. The hotel's location on Bluebonnet across from the Mall of Louisiana initially had me concerned about traffic noise, but not once did we hear any outside noise at all. The fitness center is well equipped with all the latest machines. A pair of "huddle rooms" on the second floor offer free computer/printer access. Wifi is available for a fee. Our suite featured it's own coffee/tea maker and mini-fridge. The hotel offers complimentary morning coffee at the restaurant, and my only complaint is that it was never quite hot. We did not dine in the hotel restaurant, so I'm unable to review that. The staff was courteous and knowledgeable, and greeted us each time we entered the lobby, which was beautifully decorated for the Christmas holiday. We've stayed in several hotels in BR, and this one was the best for the money. I'm not sure if these rates are introductory, since the hotel's been open only two months, but our rate was less than we've regularly paid for considerably inferior chain hotels in the area.
