I do not recommend the Clifden Station House. Rooms are extremely small, and overpriced. Room configuration for 5 was a double bed, a sofa bed, and a foam mattress. Staff were not very accommodating. Awoken during night (4am) by hotel staff moving loud squeaky cart through the hallways. Cups at breakfast were dirty. Internet connections were not free. "Brilliant customer service"
Just got back from 3 nights at the Clifden Station House, the hotel is modern and the facilities are all very good. We used the pool every day and it was warm enough for my two year old daughter, the rooms were clean and the hotel food very good especially the breakfast. It's location is very good and there is ample on site parking. The difference between […] this and the vast majority of hotels I have stayed in is the staff, they are so helpful from small things to make your stay more enjoyable to making you breakfast to take with you as you are leaving before the breakfast opens. "clean comfortable, great value"
recommended by a taxi driver in galway, we stayed here on a last minute decision. great location, close to all the shops and restaurants in clifden. could hear a bit of street noise, but not too bad at all. really liked the bottle opener on the bathroom counter ;) nice touch! breakfast was included and was quite good. didn't use the pool as there was […] a childs birthday party on. while in clifden make sure to drive sky road, and walk in the national park. a beautiful, natural area with great views of the surroundings!

I have been here a number of times in the past three years during different seasons both busy and quiet. The food has always been consistently good. Not the most expensive place to eat either. Durning the summer months you might have to wait a little while longer to receive your food but it's usually worth it. I would recommend you eat here.
"Great Hotel & Great Staff"

My wife and I stayed in The Clifden Station House Hotel in November as a last minute treat. We were greatly surprised by the amount of people staying at that time of year. The place was almost full! And after our couple of days there we can see why. The staff, the location, the rooms, the food. all amazing. Ronan and his team could not be faulted. Nothing was too much bother for them. Everyone was greeted by a warm smile. I'm a vegetarian and although they had a good choice on their menu, I was looking for something different and they went out of their way to ensure that I was well satiated. We have already booked our next stay in this hotel. And we can't wait to get there. You will also enjoy the pleasant drive through Co. Galways beautiful scenery to get to this fabulous hideaway hotel.
"Wedding reception - Exceptional service"

I would like to thank the proprietor John, manager Ronan and all the staff for making our wedding day so special. The service from the first meeting to book wedding with Ronan to checking out after the wedding stress free. I don't know where to start, the meal was faultless all the guests commented on the quality, hotel was decorated beautifully. If you are looking for a meal/night away or to book a wedding venue this is the place to go. My guests booked in for weekend as there was a variety of accommodation some stayed in hotel and others in apartments on site which were all a great standard, the hotel staff made us feel like we were at home. Thanks again to all at station house clifden
"Great location and equally great staff"

My Wife and I travelled to the Station House Hotel in mid November. It was a long, but beautiful drive from Galway City. And well worth it. The hotel was nice, and the staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. We ate in the bar/restaurant on the first night. I had the goats cheese salad which was delicious and my Wife had wings which were equally good. For mains I had the burger and my Wife had the fish. Both mains were fantastic and of a very high standard. Just what was needed after a long drive. On the Saturday the Hotel staff organised a walking tour with a local guide. This was a fantastic idea and a great way to see the area. We visited Omey Island, with the guide and were not disappointed. The scenery, allied to the knowledge of the guide, and the packed lunch provided by the Hotel made for a great morning/afternoon. The only downside I could see was the leisure facilities. They were pretty dated and could probably do with a complete overhaul. Do not let this stop you visiting though. They were very clean and tidy and the Staff there were great.

Stayed for two nights last weekend in November. Clifden is a lovely little town and it's a five minute walk into the town from the hotel. Enjoyed our stay here and would stay again. Breakfast was lovely and so was dinner. Nice buzz in hotel.Swimming pool was not that warm /pleasant. Jacuzzi not roasting either. Leisure centre does the job but I have seen nicer. Nice touch on the Sunday....the manager said guests could check out at 2pm and breakfast was served until 11am instead of 10am. It was a nice touch and for 50euros the two of us could have stayed an extra night. Would have loved to have stayed. Was disappointed that reception never asked if we enjoyed our stay. Hotel was busy when we were checking out but just would have been a nice touch. I did not find the young girls working in leisure centre friendly. The foreign cleaner was friendly though! Overall this is a good hotel and with a few little improvements it could be excellent.

We stayed here at the beginning of November and were truly impressed by the hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful. When we got to our room a lovely personal greeting was left to say happy birthday to my boyfriend and a huge basket of fruit. The food was exceptional, I have stayed in other higher graded hotels and the breakfast was nothing in comparison to this place i was so impressed with the range from the high quality full Irish to smoked salmon, brie the list goes on...We dined out the first night but had dinner in the restaurant the second night and it left us wishing we had gone there the previous evening. My first experience of mussels in a creamy white wine sauce were had here and it was just beautiful!! Our room was spotless, plenty of toiletries, towels etc. Granted it was off peak season so it was lovely and quiet and we were there to relax. overall we had a lovely stay and would love to stay again! Only negative was the WIFI connection.

We stayed here in the Clifden Station House for two nights mid November. From the moment we arrived the staff in the hotel could not do enough for us. We felt truely looked after. Our room was 207 looking out toward the courtyard at the front of the hotel. We couldn't hear any extra noise from outside which was really good. We both loved the mini crunchies on our pillows. The beds were very comfy and had two great nights sleep. Our room had everything you could need. The staff in this hotel are truely the biggest asset anyone could ask for. At every interaction we felt welcomed to this amazing part of the country. We met housekeeping in the hall on our way out on Saturday and were so surprised that we were asked was everything ok in our room and if we needed anything to just call, it would be no problem. I am not the biggest fan of trad music and when my boyfriend enquired for other options as that was what was going to be on in the pub across the way reception were very helpful with other suggestions. The breakfasts were amazing and I thought the freshly made pancakes a great touch. We had dinner included in our package on the Saturday night and the food was amazing. We both thought the extra touch of extending the breakfast and checkout time on the Sunday was just wonderful. It ment no mad rush in the morning. The hotel manager talking to each guest at check out was great to see and something we appreciated very much. This was a great base to explore the region and we cannot wait to come back next year.
"Overall Great.......just a pity about paid Wi-Fi....."
An all-round nice stay, Stayed here with my Fiancé for 2 nights B&B during November. For both of us, this was our first visit to Clifden and indeed first time we had been that far west, so we were both very much looking forward to it. We arrived in the late afternoon and outwardly the hotel and surrounds were in good condition, all Beit not well signposted from the main road. There was adequate parking around and we were both quite happy with our choice. The reception area was quiet with a small bar called “the library” adjoining, the restaurant was also adjoining and the main bar is in a separate building just across what is effectively a courtyard. We were immediately greeted by very friendly members of staff, who asked us how our journey was etc, a small but really nice touch, and we immediately felt quite welcome. Check in was handled quickly and efficiently and a rundown of the hotel facilities and where to find them followed. Our room was on the 4th floor and close to the lift as I had requested in the booking (this was nice as often booking requests like this are not always honoured in hotels). The room was fine, maybe a little smaller than some of the hotels ive seen. The Temperature of the room was on the cool side but the radiator had been set to off, probably as standard but it was a fully customisable valve and once turned on the room heated up quickly and remained warm. Décor was nice, and the room was clean, a couple of little scuff marks just above the floor beside the mirror, but as I said the room was clean. Likewise the bathroom was clean and well stocked, with some bits and pieces, such as face clothes etc, which you don’t often see. We relaxed for a while and then headed out for something to eat, opting to go down town, (no reflection on the hotel BTW) We returned to the hotel at about 11pm and had once drink in the station house bar, which was quite busy and very nicely decorated in a “station house” style, Breakfast the following morning was served in the restaurant, we were down quite early and had a lovely leisurely breakfast, taking the time to sample both hot and cold food and read a complimentary paper. The choice of food was excellent, plenty of choice for all tastes. The scrambled eggs, fried eggs and mushrooms were not very hot, but were still fine. It was on a buffet style with Tea/Coffee service to the table, I heard some other guests requests for Porridge which I believe was honoured by a member of staff. After breakfast we went and did some sightseeing before returning around mid-afternoon at which point we made use of the leisure facilities. The changing room was clean and warm and overall the facilities were also very clean and in good order. The hot tub was not working that day, but I noted on leaving Sunday morning it was back up. Again through no fault of the hotel’s we did not dine in it on our second night, but again elected to go down town for food, we returned to the station house bar later that evening and then before turning in for the night we had a couple of drinks in the “library” bar off the main reception. This was nice as it was just the two of us for quite a while, but the room was cold and we did not take off our coats, it was also very under equipped, with the barman having to go across the road for some drinks not on tap or having to go to the kitchen for hot water for a “hot whiskey” which was order another guest coming in later. I’m not sure if this acts as the residents bar later in the night or what, but the idea itself is really nice, but a little warmer and a little better equipped would of bee better. To be fair they had what I was drinking, but had it been warmer I may of stayed for one or two more…. Breakfast the following morning was again great and as on Saturday we had a leisurely breakfast and stayed drinking our coffees and talking until the room started to get busier so we left to ensure we were not taking up a breakfast place for someone else. We were also delighted to note that breakfast was being served 1 hour later than normal and checkout was not until 1pm, I don’t know if that’s standard or just for the off peak season, but it was great, we were able to take our time without having to watch the clock for checkout. Checkout was handled very quickly and again staff were very polite and asked about the journey ahead etc. Top marks to the hotel for its reception staff, they are certainly an asset. Also the cleaning staff on our floor were also very helpful and welcoming. It’s very rare that a member of the cleaning staff actually stops you in the corridor, welcomes you to the hotel and lets you know that if you want anything to just ask. A1 to staff, best I’ve come across. Ok… my only complaint… Wi-Fi was not free, it came with charges by the 30min, 60min or day rate. I rely heavily on my laptop for work and while I try to keep it off when away for the weekend, I need it for remote access to IT system which I work with. I do believe that every hotel should have Wi-Fi free of charge to all guests all of the time, even if you do have to get a new voucher/ip address daily that’s fine, I understand that it can be abused. I would consider Wi-Fi as much part of the standard services in a hotel as tea/coffee facilities and TV, and it is an unwelcome additional cost. I was able to make do without it, but unless It totally necessary I will not pay for Wi-Fi in a 4 star hotel. I would consider it a basic enough service, and as a regular hotel goer I think we pay enough for hotel rooms without having to pay for Internet too. In my situation I was able to manage with 3G on a phone, but if I was a part of a couple with 2 kids and a couple of phones, or tablets etc., having free Wi-Fi is ideal for keeping kids entertained for a short while, while parents get time to relax too. In that scenario, its easy rack up some extra charges that you may not of planned for. I would urge the hotel to consider this, and review their internet policy. Paying for Wifi is in my experience more the exception that the rule. Overall generally a nice stay, a few small points which I’ve noted above, but nothing that would prevent me from coming and staying in this hotel.

Stayed for 2 nights on a deal which was great value. First impressions of the hotel are excellent, the staff on check in are so friendly and welcoming, this was also the case with other hotel and bar staff that we met. The room (no 406) had a double and a single bed. I liked the little extra touch of a treat size bar on the pillow :) The room was well equipped with tea, coffee and biscuits and toiletries are provided. The bed was really comfortable The only things I would change in the room are the plugs on the dressing table, I could not plug in my hair straightener anywhere near the mirror and I thought the towels in the bathroom were a bit small Breakfast is lovely with plenty of choice, you certainly wont go hungry. We had bar food on the first night in the pub across from the hotel (also part of the hotel). The food was lovely but the bar itself does nothing to attract you to stay there for a few drinks, it didn't matter however as there are plenty of nice bars playing trad music just a five minute walk away. Overall it was an enjoyable stay and we will certainly return
