Hotel Santana - Panama City

Bad hotel; the neighborhood is dangerous and you can not find anything close to the hotel to eat. When I did my reservation was a free shuttle from airport, but DON'T have free shuttle! You have to pay $30,00 by taxi to arrive there plus $30,00 to comeback. Pay attention on this! It not worth!!!

The menu is exotic (not even Panamian food), the airport-hotel taxi service they offerred didn't pick me up. I had to pay for a separate Taxi instead and all they were able to say was "We are sorry". There's no elevator (this is a three storage hotel), the room was very dirty (the clean sheet control they had, happened to have some dates around the […] 2010 timeframe) and sheets had to be changed as there was some blood on those. The hotel is near a very dangerous part of the town, all taxi drivers and locals know this. Even the front-desk advice us not to walk freely on the street because of this and specially avoid doing this during the night. We asked for a big taxi to be provided while checking-out from the hotel, although we asked for this twice (using Spanish and English) the taxi that ended-up arriving was small. And again, we got "we are sorry". This is at most a one star hotel. Read more

On the last night of our stay, a saturday, there was some seriously loud music resonating through the hotel until well after midnight ( and the noise really echoes through the building). At about 8am the music started again. We thought this was pretty strange however we figured it was coming from out on the street and couldn't be avoided. It wasn't until we got in a cab to head to the airport at 8.30am that we looked up to see the noise was coming from the hotel bar!! The music was pumping and we could see people getting up to some mischief on the balcony... Now, we don't really mind people partying however we thought it a bit odd that the hotel would allow music that loud at 8am in the morning, but worse would let random people (non hotel guests) trounce through the hotel intoxicated... Till that day I had seen prisons only in films! And the inside of this small building really resembled the Hollywood images of prisons: three floors of rooms arranged in a parallel manner, facing each other on each floor and connected (the floors, I mean) by three flights of cement stairs. There was no privacy because whatever you say at the front desk […] could be heard by every body in the "lobby" area that includes a snack bar connected to a tiny kitchen whose fumes get easily carried to the guests' rooms; so does the echoy noise of the snack bar's TV and the loud chatting of the staff and guests of that area, not to mention the squeaky washer and dryer and the frequent ringing of telephone and (front) door bell. The front door is connected to safety locks because this property is located in a red-light district, filled with poverty and infested with smoggy local buses that run loud as from sun-rise till 9 or 10 p.m. The "hotel" has no elevator, no telephones in rooms, no windows, no hot water, no drinking water, no safe-deposit boxes, and no satellite TV (only 4, unclear, Spanish-speaking channels). My partner and I stayed for 3 nights at Hotel Santana and found it a good quality 3 star hotel. The room was clean and big enough .The main drawback was no pool, and a dip would have given good relief. when the hotel owner heard we wanted to go to a pool he offered us to use the pool at his building they really go out of their way to make you happy. The hotel is fairly new and very clean.The hotel is located in the Old city which is center to shopping malls,downtown,cossway and taxis are very cheap. This is my third visit to Panama, and third time in Hotel Santana. During my first visit I stayed at 3 other hotels of similar prices,before arriving at the end of my trip to Santana. Of the 4 hotels I visited, Santana is by far the best value, combining location, neighborhood, room, and hotel facilities. Hotel Santana is located at Casco antigo, one […] of Panama’s older neighborhoods. and is only 6 minutes walking from the Casco Viejo, Panama’s oldcity. Panama, like any other city in the world, has the streets you want to avoid. Make sure to check with hotel staff which streets they are. During the night always take a taxi. (as you would in any other place). My single room was perfect. Spacious bathroom, closet, TV and enough space left beside the bed. Hot water is available 24-7 and you have enough outlets to charge phone, mp3 player etc. My room & bathroom were spotless when I arrived and hotel staff was cleaning them daily. The hotel itself is brand new. You walk in and the entire building is naturally lit from its partial transparent ceiling. It has a restaurant, free pool table, TV lounge and internet (WiFi + 2 computers) all available 24-7. Hotel staff will gladly arrange taxis, excursions to San Blas, laundry service and anything else. They will happily provide any guidance and information you might need. When I think about my entire experience in Hotel Santana I’ll be happy to go back there, and I recommend to anyone with a similar budget to stay there too. Read more

Had snacks and pizza for sale, a pool table in the lobby, laid back and helpful staff, and was a great place to stay. I was not interested in Panama City's nightlife and I only stayed at the hotel as a place to sleep for 1 night, so I'm not sure if it's in the hippest neighborhood or if it's near any backpacker type attractions (I think it's near the […] historic part of town but my impression is that the backpackers mostly stay downtown). It was not the easiest place to catch a taxi super early in the morning but seemed like a perfectly fine place to stay- I will probably stay there again. We booked this hotel based on price and the 3.5 stars on expedia. Yes it is a cheap price. It was in a very old and delapidated part of town and we felt very unsafe. The protected parking lot is not open for parking and we had to park our rented car on the street. It was a very noisy part of town. Buses run very early and are extremely loud. Don't expect […] to sleep in quietly. There were three of us therefore we were given a room with three single beds. They had a bottom sheet on them and a pillow, no top sheet and no blankets. There was an AC unit that worked good. The worst for me was that the shower was filthy. There were hairs on the tile walls. There is free wifi. I would not stay here again. I prefer a clean room and safe area. We were very dissapointed. It would be worth it to pay a little more. But be careful of the ratings. Read more

First of all, let's say that we were professionals that work hard the whole year and hope to enjoy every minute of our vacation time. Based on this, we selected this hotel looking at its location close to the city center to have access to its historical places and attractions. You better be careful, because this is the must dangerous area of the city. Later, we got the same opinion from many other people. This hotel is located in an area surrounded by a neighborhood in horrible sanitary conditions. Moreover, there was no control at all over the discipline and behavior of the guests. Some young guests (they looked like absolutely out of control college students) were screaming and making an incredible noise the whole night (slapping doors, running up to 4 or 5 am). Hostel idee, simpel, kamer zonder ramen. Personeel is vriendelijk, maar service kan je het niet noemen. Omgeving is niet per voet toegankelijk i.v.m. veiligheidsraad. Taxi's zijn niet duur. fui con mi novio por 1 noche, el hotel se encuentra en una zona no muy segura. Debíamos tomar un avión temprano y no pudimos dormir porque los otros huéspedes conversaban en voz alta a las 4 o 5 am. se escuchaba todo en la habitación. El baño chico y sucio, la pieza también pequeña. Solo como última opción, no vale lo que cobran.
