Hotel Skyler - Syracuse

We thought the hotel was fantastic! Very clean, eco-friendly room. Close to the University and the town. We especially liked the bar and the bartender, Phil. He made our stay more enjoyable and was very knowledgeable about the area. All in all, it was a great overnight!!!

The hotel is a building that used to be a synagogue, and was constructed using local materials and with energy conservation and other green issues in mind. The room was nice and big, as was the bed. Good service, if a bit chatty and inquisitive for my taste.

Even though the outside is a little daunting at first (we were looking for a traditional looking hotel), we were throughly impressed with this hotel. My husband and I enjoyed the stay in the Hotel Skylar. The staff was very nice and helpful with restaurants close by. We loved that it was a green building. The one negative was the sloped ceiling in the room. Both my husband and I bumped our heads. There also wasn't a luggage rack.

My husband and I stayed here for a quick two night getaway. We were completely satisfied with everything. The staff was very friendly. The rooms were clean and comfy and plenty of room. My family and I loved staying at the Hotel Skyler. We were so happy with the condition of the hotel, the helpful and kind nature of the staff, and the comfort of our rooms. The story of the renovation of the building into a hotel and how the process and the systems that are used in the hotel earned it the certification was great reading. As advertised; hotel was really good...certainly worth the money. Unique bar just inside the front door, and only steps from some of the guest rooms. Guest rooms are a bit narrow, but we never felt like it was a small room. Easy 10-minute walk to SU, perhaps 15 to the Carrier Dome. Easy drives to Dinosaur BBQ (5 minutes) and the old Carousel Mall.

Lovely cute hotel, very intriguing to convert a synagogue into a hotel space. Love the concept. Brand new, very clean. Location was PERFECT! Walking distance to Upstate Medical. Only downsides were: the amenities!! Just because it's eco doesn't mean that it's good! The conditioner smelled like vegetable oil (which i guess it is) but did nothing to actually […] condition/detangle my hair. Bring your own toiletries. Also, my tv wouldn't turn on with the remote- I could have called the front desk, but I felt lazy. When I came back in the evening, I could hear my neighbor loudly talking for an hour. This was our first visit to Hotel Skyler. We were very impressed. The rooms were roomy with high ceilings. The bed was soooo comfortable. Our daughter attends Syracuse University and next to the Sheraton on campus, you can't stay any closer than the Skyler. We've stayed here 4 times and each visit has exceeded our expectations. The Skyler is a unique property as it is a first class adaptive re-use of an old synagogue - LEED Platinum certified. The rooms are bright and modern and the lobby/lounge […] is exceedingly comfortable. You can leave your car at the hotel (free parking) and walk to campus in 5 minutes. The staff is pleasant and attentive. If you are expecting a family style hotel with pool and dining room, this isn't the place for you as it is structured as a boutique hotel without those amenities. It does have a nice bar and a servery with pre-made salads, sandwiches, drinks and snacks for purchase. There are dozens of restaurants in the nearby Marshall Street area. During University football and basketball seasons, along with student move-in and parent weekends, the room pricing can get high (supply and demand). But at other times the Skyler can be a bargain for the quality of accommodations you get. We try not to stay anywhere else when we're in Syracuse. Read more

While my son walked to his med school interview, I worked in the beautiful lobby and the tiny business center. The hotel staff was very accomodating in several ways. The hotel rooms are tastefully decorated with comfy beds and "state of the art" baths.

Neat, totally green hotel in downtown Syracuse, Hotel Skyler is a reconverted Jewish Temple with wonderful architectural features. We had an initial issue with the size of the room, which was nicely furnished, but small. Given the price we were paying, I asked for and got an upgrade. The new room was a roomy suite with soaring eaves-totally charming, […] but slightly hazardous if you are tall and unwary. The bed was quite comfortable, with a selection of pillow types. The bathroom was very clean and had a rainfall showerhead. There were two glitches: while in bed, I could actually hear the conversation going on in the room next door (they were speaking in normal, conversational tones) and although there was a small refrigerator, there was no coffee machine. When my husband went to the lobby, he was told that he could purchase coffee if he wanted some. We've traveled far and wide and have never stayed in a hotel where coffee was not provided gratis in the morning (actually, some hotels provide coffee and tea in the afternoon as well). It was a bit unsettling to say the least and something they should correct. Restaurants are nearby. Read more

This was my first time in Syracuse and The Hotel Skyler, a renovated synagogue, was a good choice. Everything was new and clean as a whistle. The lobby area was nice, and the bar made a good cappuccino however there is no breakfast of any kind, just a small concession. My 2 complaints are: 1) pillows weren't very comfortable and 2) I did not receive […] my wake-up call. Still, my stay was fine in other respects.
