Beautiful scenery. Very tastefully decorated. If you like natural touches like wood and stone this is the place for you. Comfortable beds with lovely linens. Everything was kept clean. Good food although it would of been nice to be able to get food later in the evening and more selection. But it is a b & b so evening food is a bonus.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"A Wonderful Stay"
Travelling with our two year old son has been a hassle on occasion with some hotels "child-friendly" policy turning out to be not so friendly. However our stay at Wayside was excellent from start to finish. The owners made us and our little boy feel welcome from the start, the room was bright and clean and the views spectacular. Comfortable beds, well […] presented room and bathroom and a quaint dining/bar area all added to the homely feel. We dined in the hotel on both nights of our stay and the food was excellent throughout. The owners were friendly and helpful, especially to our son and I would recommend a stay here to anyone looking for a charming break. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Romantic getaway in the Lakes"
This lovely inn is located on hills overlooking meadows, hills and the Irish Sea . It has been lovingly restored from it's prior purpose as a whiskey barn, and the innkeeper/owners have kept the charming aspects of this prior life even as they modernized and repurposed it. The entire premise is spotless and warm ( in character and in fact). We were […] located in the Annex, and enjoyed the sense of privacy and quiet that this provided. The space was modern, comfortable and exceptionally clean. What sets this inn apart and lands it solidly on our list of all time favorite places to stay ( any where!) are its hosts Steven and Lynn. At the beginning and end of each day we were afforded the privilege of selecting first rate meals from the menu provided all the while engaged in conversation with the guests and hosts. It was less a meal at an inn and more like a very lively and interesting dinner(breakfast) party. While everything on the menu was delicious, of particular note are the salmon, lamb and crème brulee. As it was our first trip to the lakes district, we relied on Steven's extensive knowledge of the area to guide us on places to visit, shop and hike. We were never disappointed with his suggestions or directions. Although the local weather did not cooperate - cold and high winds prevailed - the warmth and charm of this inn and our hosts left us with a very positive impression of the area. We will definitely plan a return visit. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Wonderful hotel and wonderful owners!"
Not sure what we liked better - the accommodation or the owners! Both in equal measure I think. The hotel itself is well positioned for exploring the local area, the rooms are comfortable and the food is OUTSTANDING - we ate in both nights, something we never do. The owners (and the other guests!) are friendly, full of great tips and interesting stories. […] We are planning to return soon! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Weekend In The Lakes"
Great little b&b. Stayed in the annex which was beautiful inside with some fantastic charm. The food served was brilliant as we're the hosts. Only concern was a number of cobwebs in and around the room, just a quick dust round the door ways and ceiling would leave the room perfectGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The rooms were very comfy and roomy and they accommodated us well with our four month old baby. The hotel was very clean and newly refurbished through out. We enjoyed the breakfast too. The location is also great with the beach just a 5 minute drive up the road. I would say it is very good value for money also for the room we had. We would stay aga […] in. "Perfect spot for wonderful views and walking"
This was such a find!! The attention to detail in this converted barn was lovely, it was warm, cosy and very inviting. The weather was wet and windy but it was wonderful to come in to a warm fire. A drying room provided to put all your wet things. The bedroom had a lovely view of the surrounding scenery, an incredibly comfortable bed, coffee and tea […] making facilities and was spotless. Stephen (the owner) is very attentive and his cooking is superb. We had a delicious eve meal and fabulous cooked breakfast. Def worth a visit, not difficult to find and a lovely place to explore. "Great place to stay when visiting the Lake's"
Fantastic hosts, lovely room, great food, couldn't have asked for more!Genuine Expedia guest review
We had an excellent experience of the Wayside. The food was exquisite and the room itself so much more than I expected. The situation was exactly right for us too and we had a great walk up Black Coome and trip to Muncaster. Highly recommended. Hope to go back again sooner rather than later! An added extra is the Whisky Barn, I went hating whisky and […] left with an appreciation for it, still don't like it but no longer hate it! A little heaven for anyone who likes it though! Fabulous warm welcome, exceptionally well appointed immaculately kept comfortable rooms, Steve and Lynn have made their property a home away from home. We had the pleasure of staying two nights 22nd and 23rd August 2014 while in the Lake District and would highly recommend staying, in fact since being back we have not stopped talking about it and the wonderful food prepared and cooked by this amazing couple. We can't thank you enough for making our stay so relaxing and memorable.
"Excellent for family, too"

I stayed three nights at the excellent place with my wife and three daughters, 11, 9 and 6 years old. The house was lovely with a lot of beautiful flowers. The room was comfortable. The bathroom was excellent where there was a bath tab and a shower booth with high pressure and plenty of hot water!! We also enjoyed breakfast, dinner and drinking at the bar area. My girls seems to have enjoyed the bar area with adults. During the stay, we visited to see Peter Rabbit at Near Sawrey, to enjoy a beech horse riding at "Murthwaite Green Trekking Centre" and to enjoy a steam train and walking in Ravengrass. We spent really relaxed time. Thank you, Steve and Lynn!!
"A rare find!!!"

What a wonderful stay my husband and I have just had at the whisky barn!! Steve and Lynn couldn't have done more to make us feel at home. The setting for the whisky barn is lovely, Black Coombe sits just behind and is a great place for a walk with the dogs (if you have them with you). The sea is visible to the front of the property with the nearest beach about 3 miles away. The food is so good I ordered the same meal twice!! My husband had a rib eye steak and said it was among the best he has ever eaten!! The breakfast is as good as it gets for a full fry up made with quality foods. The bar is well stocked especially with whisky and Steve has a massive knowledge around his whiskies especially the rarer ones (my husband ended up adding to his collection quite considerably!!) It is definitely the quieter side of the lakes however this just enhances its beauty. This doesn't mean that there is nothing to do though Ravenglass steam trains and Muncaster castle are both nearby. We found a wonderful place to walk the dogs, in Millom there is a nature reserve and we found a deserted beach for the dogs to run for miles chasing the seagulls. Steve is very knowledgeable about the surrounding areas and local walks for hikers. We had such a good time we will definitely return. We left yesterday but feel like we have made two new friends that we will definitely keep in touch with. Thank you once again Steve and Lynn x x P.S. Barry says he forgot his sticky toffee pudding!!!!! Hope to see you again really soon.
"Amazing wayside surprise"
Touring the lakes we happened to arrive to this wonderful inn - the warm welcome, comfortable room and especially the excellent food cooked by Steve (not to mention the large selection of single malts) created a wonderful experience. Thanks!!!
"Two Night Stay - Outstanding"
08/13/14 Paul H Chippenham, United Kingdom
There's only word to describe the 'Wayside' and that's Quality. The setting, views, fixtures & fittings, presentation, food, service, hospitality and cleanliness are second to none. Nothing's too much trouble and if you asked me would I recommend it/stay there again. Definitely and I am very shortly.

My friend and I recently stayed at The Wayside for several nights and really enjoyed our break. Our accommodation was spotlessly clean and comfortable and the décor was finished to a high standard. Steve and Lynn were friendly and helpful hosts who were able to give us good advice on the best places to visit during our stay. The food was delicious - we enjoyed a hearty full English breakfast every morning and had two evening meals there which were also very good. We hope to return next year!
"Home from home"

Have just had a few wonderful days here in the annexe. Beautiful room with a really comfortable bed. The bathroom is very spacious and the Radox is most welcome after a hard day walking or riding. Steven produced some fine food and Lynn's sticky toffee pudding is a delight. My husband received a tasting education on Scotch whisky from Steven which was an added bonus for him. Steven was able to offer lots of helpful advice on places to visit, best walks etc and maps are available if you do not have your own. This is a fine family run establishment and the doggies are a bonus! This really was a home from home and we had a fantastic time here before our return to Australia. Thanks Lynne for getting the curry stain out of Rob's shirt!!
"A welcoming Gateway to the Western Lakes"
06/10/14 Dennis F Manchester, United Kingdom
The Wayside Guest House has exceptional reviews - and it is a reputation well earned. If you want to have a base for exploring those less well known and populated parts of the Lakes - though all the more beautiful for it - I could not recommend a better place. The accomodation is gorgeous, beautifully finished and very welcoming. Steven and Lynn are excellent hosts and offer great breakfasts and the chance of lovely food in the evening if needed. The whisky Bar is something of an event in itself with choices from the well known to obscure and new distillations. First time stay - but hopefully not the last.
