"unforgettable"
Beautiful scenery. Very tastefully decorated. If you like natural touches like wood and stone this is the place for you. Comfortable beds with lovely linens. Everything was kept clean. Good food although it would of been nice to be able to get food later in the evening and more selection. But it is a b & b so evening food is a bonus.

"Boutique style hotel at B&B prices."
For accommodation with only 4 rooms this hotel offers every facility that ten plus room establishments do. We stayed in the annex and I was not only impressed with the standard of the room finish but also the added extras , like bone china cups, bottled water and slippers provided. The food was all freshly prepared and made to order by the in house chef and every dish was cooked to perfection.

A hotel with a difference!! And what a difference! Beautiful surroundings! Really looked after by staff! Made to feel very special!! Room we stayed in was perfect!! Really reccomend the attached barn! WOW! But even with the surroundings and standard of accomodation, it was the personel touch in everything that made a difference! I will certainly be going back!!

"A Wonderful Stay"
Travelling with our two year old son has been a hassle on occasion with some hotels "child-friendly" policy turning out to be not so friendly. However our stay at Wayside was excellent from start to finish. The owners made us and our little boy feel welcome from the start, the room was bright and clean and the views spectacular. Comfortable beds, well presented room and bathroom and a quaint dining/bar area all added to the homely feel. We dined in the hotel on both nights of our stay and the food was excellent throughout. The owners were friendly and helpful, especially to our son and I would recommend a stay here to anyone looking for a charming break.

"Romantic getaway in the Lakes"
This lovely inn is located on hills overlooking meadows, hills and the Irish Sea . It has been lovingly restored from it's prior purpose as a whiskey barn, and the innkeeper/owners have kept the charming aspects of this prior life even as they modernized and repurposed it. The entire premise is spotless and warm ( in character and in fact). We were located in the Annex, and enjoyed the sense of privacy and quiet that this provided. The space was modern, comfortable and exceptionally clean. What sets this inn apart and lands it solidly on our list of all time favorite places to stay ( any where!) are its hosts Steven and Lynn. At the beginning and end of each day we were afforded the privilege of selecting first rate meals from the menu provided all the while engaged in conversation with the guests and hosts. It was less a meal at an inn and more like a very lively and interesting dinner(breakfast) party. While everything on the menu was delicious, of particular note are the salmon, lamb and crème brulee. As it was our first trip to the lakes district, we relied on Steven's extensive knowledge of the area to guide us on places to visit, shop and hike. We were never disappointed with his suggestions or directions. Although the local weather did not cooperate - cold and high winds prevailed - the warmth and charm of this inn and our hosts left us with a very positive impression of the area. We will definitely plan a return visit.

"Wonderful hotel and wonderful owners!"
Not sure what we liked better - the accommodation or the owners! Both in equal measure I think. The hotel itself is well positioned for exploring the local area, the rooms are comfortable and the food is OUTSTANDING - we ate in both nights, something we never do. The owners (and the other guests!) are friendly, full of great tips and interesting stories. We are planning to return soon!

"Weekend In The Lakes"
Great little b&b. Stayed in the annex which was beautiful inside with some fantastic charm. The food served was brilliant as we're the hosts. Only concern was a number of cobwebs in and around the room, just a quick dust round the door ways and ceiling would leave the room perfect

"Fantastic Hotel"
The rooms were very comfy and roomy and they accommodated us well with our four month old baby. The hotel was very clean and newly refurbished through out. We enjoyed the breakfast too. The location is also great with the beach just a 5 minute drive up the road. I would say it is very good value for money also for the room we had. We would stay again.

"Perfect spot for wonderful views and walking"
This was such a find!! The attention to detail in this converted barn was lovely, it was warm, cosy and very inviting. The weather was wet and windy but it was wonderful to come in to a warm fire. A drying room provided to put all your wet things. The bedroom had a lovely view of the surrounding scenery, an incredibly comfortable bed, coffee and tea making facilities and was spotless. Stephen (the owner) is very attentive and his cooking is superb. We had a delicious eve meal and fabulous cooked breakfast. Def worth a visit, not difficult to find and a lovely place to explore. Will certainly be returning.

"NEVER AGAIN!!"

Rude, ignorant manager. Definitely wouldn't advise young couples to stay here. Made our stay very uncomfortable with his attitude. Also "hotel" in the middle of nowhere so there was absolutely nothing to do unless you were prepared to drive a long way. Poor all round experience.

We have just returned from a two night stay at Wayside with my husband and 14 month old son. Wayside is the most perfect place to stay when visiting the lakes. Steve and Lynn have done an incredible job renovating the barn and the attention to detail is unbelievable. The care and thought which has gone into making Wayside so beautiful is incredible. We stayed in room 2 which was a very spacious double with beautiful decor and furniture, a beautiful bathroom which looks brand new and amazing views. Our son loved watching the cows going in for milking in the morning! The entire place is spotless and it was lovely to have complimentary tea and coffee in the room. We have stayed in some 4* hotels which haven't offered this nor have been anywhere near as nice. We ate out on our first night and at Wayside the following evening however, next time we stay we will definitely eat at Wayside....the food is to delicious with a lovely selection at both breakfast and dinner. Steve and Lynn have a superb local knowledge and recommended the steam train and ferry to Bowness....we had a wonderful day out. Our only regret is that we only stayed for two nights....we can't wait to return in the very near future. Thank you for such a lovely weekend.

"A perfect getaway"
08/18/15 JGeorgalis London, United Kingdom
My husband booked a short trip away from London for us to the Lake District. Neither of us had been before and weren't sure what to expect although we knew we wanted relaxation and a little exploring, and Wayside offers both of these and more. We were delighted to arrive at this out of the way cottage style accommodation which instantly gave you a peaceful feeling of a home away from home. Having arrived with no idea what there was to do or see Steve was exceptional in getting a feel for the right kind of activities for us and recommending some great things to do. He is a fountain of knowledge about the surrounding area and the history and details of what seemed like every activity, mountain or walk we could ask about. After a few very well planned (but exhausting) day trips exploring Muncaster Castle, Ravenglass and climbing Scafell Pike nothing beat returning each day to delicious home cooked meals (with a cheesecake to die for!), great conversation and a board game or two before retiring to a deep and wonderful sleep in a room that was impressive in size, comfort and decoration. It felt clean and new but still had such a comforting homely feel. Wayside is out of the way enough that you aren't bothered by traffic or noise and can enjoy the comfort of a quiet bubble bath yet still so close to so many things to do. It really was the perfect weekend away and we look forward to visiting again. Thank you Steve and Lynn for such a great experience!! Alexandros and Jaimie

" DO NOT miss this gem...!!"
08/06/15 luckylorraine Greater London, United Kingdom
We (two families of four, including children and teenagers) annually stop off for two nights on our way home to Berkshire from high in the Highlands. Our criteria is that the end of our holiday continues the relaxation, calm and beauty of the Highlands. We like the children to have the freedom to roam outside, and the adults to enjoy some luxury and looking after....good food, and a good drink, before starting life again. Quite a tall order. At Wayside every single box was ticked, and more. We walked to the huge deserted beach (kites, balls and shrieking no problem) ... up Black Combe, beautiful views and never ending safe path. Children entertained by friendly calves and sheep. Precious road bikes were kept safe and well ..I could go on... Wayside is a joy to anybody who notices the little touches, background music, lovingly crafted finishes, and sensor lights when you pull into the driveway in the dark! The enormous pride that Lynn and Steven have taken in creating Wayside from rubble is very evident. Added to this they are both a dab hand at gorgeous hearty meals...do book dinner! We were delighted by visits from the dogs...only on request mind. This accommodation is something quite special...a perfect mix of boutique hotel (designer linen, cream carpets and discreet service) blended with the homeliness and familiarity of the best B&B's (place for your mucky boots, dogs, a fine fry-up, a good friendly chat and goodbye wave). Thank you Lynn, Steven, Meeka, Esme, Gizmo and Tia. Hopefully it's not another year until we have a reason to visit again (:

This was our second visit at Wayside and once again we are very pleased. Steve and Lynn were very welcoming and helpful. We set out for Scafell Pike and they supplied us with a map and sandwiches to help us on our way. The food and drink was exceptional and Steve was very accommodating by making us an alternative sauce to the one on the menu. We will definitely be visiting Wayside again in the future.

My partner and I had booked the annexe as our dog would be allowed. The room was fantastic and the whole building had been finished to a very high standard as I complimented Steven on several times (working in construction the details really stood out to me). The hosts were very accommodating and friendly without being overly intrusive. We breakfasted and had our evening meal there both days of our stay and the food was excellent, the sauces in particular were exquisite. We found the establishment to be clean and well run and the overall atmosphere of the place was very comfortable, which is great when you’ve never visited somewhere before. The outlook is beautiful and it’s perfectly placed for visiting the Cumbrian coast. We will certainly stay again, but this time will definitely be wanting the recipes for the sauces :)

"Fantastic!"

I travel a lot, both for business and holidays. But I have never come across anyone in the hotel industry to save my holiday just out of kindness, therefore I would give Wayside Inn 10 out 5 stars if that was possible. But I will start from the start. I flew in to Manchester with a friend late and then drove up to Cumbria. We were asked to phone when we left Manchester, so Wayside could make sure we were able to have a late dinner (which included starters, maincourse and dessert and was excellent). The room was very lovely, new and spotless. Bathroom: just the same. Breakfast or rather the delicious selection of breakfasts the next day left nothing else to wish for. The next evening after a wonderful dinner we gave the whiskeys a try and were not disappointed. Lovely and clean rooms, very good food, truely lovely and friendly owners: Lynn and Steve. Wayward in would qualify for 5 Stars anyhow. And extra 5? There was this very annoying incident with our rental car (Sixt: 0 Stars or minus 5 if possible!) that easily could have spoilt our long weekend. To make a long story short, we got a flat tyre, Sixt was not able to repair within 2 hours, or 24 hours, or over the weekend, or at all..... You can imagine we were very annoyed and kind of desperate. Steve and Lynn were really kind and said we should enjoy our holiday nevertheless.Steve not only took the time and trouble to talk to the Sixt people, but also after they were unable and/or unwilling to do anything to help, organized someone who changed the tyre while we were away on a horse ride. I have no idea how he did it on a weekend and so quickly, but we were incredibly grateful. Doing that for someone who "only" is a customer, not a good friend or relative is really something I have never come across before. That certainly qualifies for more than the 5 extra stars. When we return to the lake district we certainly come back here!!!

I am flabbergasted to see the previous review. We stayed here twice in May and can only describe it as fantastic. Everything about the place is great, food, service, position, and the welcome you get. We will continue to stay here at every opportunity as WE know you are guaranteed a relaxing stay at an affordable price. And to cap it all, a superb selection of whiskies to drink....heaven. Steve and Lynn are professional and warm hosts who exude friendliness. Can't wait till we go back, soon we hope.

"NEVER AGAIN, RUDE MANAGER!"
06/21/15 ElishaLyon
As it was mine and my boyfriend's anniversary we decided to go away for a the weekend. When we got to this hotel we was instantly made to feel unwelcome by the hotel manager. He asked what we was planning on doing during our stay here and we replied with us just wanting to have a look around and find a few cafe's, his reply was very rude as he questioned why we came to this part of the country to find cafe's as there was none round there according to him, when Infact there was 2 just down the round from were we was. The next morning at 10am we went downstairs for breakfast only to find there was nothing there for us to eat despite it saying in the guest book there would be cereal left out for you after 9 if wanting a lie in. When we asked the man were the Cereal was he said "there's none left" in a very arrogant way, so we had to go out and find our own breakfast. That night my boyfriend went down to ask the manager if we could have more tea, coffee, milk & sugars as we only got a few to start with and he only brought us two tea's and two sugars despite asking for more. The next day we went on a day out to Whitehaven were there was a festival on with loads of people and things to do. When arriving back at the hotel the manager asked us were we had been for the day so we replied saying were we had visited. His response was rude and he was questioning why we had been there, shaking his head and laughing which is not how a manager should be with his guests who have just paid £180 for there stay. When checking out the manager was no were to be seen so we just left the keys at reception. When leaving he stopped us at the road (as we thought we had paid for both nights but you only pay for one at first and then the other when your leaving) as we was paying he said to me very arrogantly "will you take your rubbish with you because it costs us to get rid of it". We was both stunned as it is a hotel. I will definitely not be going back to this hotel again and advise anyone not to go there.
