Beautiful scenery. Very tastefully decorated. If you like natural touches like wood and stone this is the place for you. Comfortable beds with lovely linens. Everything was kept clean. Good food although it would of been nice to be able to get food later in the evening and more selection. But it is a b & b so evening food is a bonus.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Boutique style hotel at B&B prices."
For accommodation with only 4 rooms this hotel offers every facility that ten plus room establishments do. We stayed in the annex and I was not only impressed with the standard of the room finish but also the added extras , like bone china cups, bottled water and slippers provided. The food was all freshly prepared and made to order by the in house […] chef and every dish was cooked to perfection. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"A Wonderful Stay"
Travelling with our two year old son has been a hassle on occasion with some hotels "child-friendly" policy turning out to be not so friendly. However our stay at Wayside was excellent from start to finish. The owners made us and our little boy feel welcome from the start, the room was bright and clean and the views spectacular. Comfortable beds, well […] presented room and bathroom and a quaint dining/bar area all added to the homely feel. We dined in the hotel on both nights of our stay and the food was excellent throughout. The owners were friendly and helpful, especially to our son and I would recommend a stay here to anyone looking for a charming break. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Romantic getaway in the Lakes"
This lovely inn is located on hills overlooking meadows, hills and the Irish Sea . It has been lovingly restored from it's prior purpose as a whiskey barn, and the innkeeper/owners have kept the charming aspects of this prior life even as they modernized and repurposed it. The entire premise is spotless and warm ( in character and in fact). We were […] located in the Annex, and enjoyed the sense of privacy and quiet that this provided. The space was modern, comfortable and exceptionally clean. What sets this inn apart and lands it solidly on our list of all time favorite places to stay ( any where!) are its hosts Steven and Lynn. At the beginning and end of each day we were afforded the privilege of selecting first rate meals from the menu provided all the while engaged in conversation with the guests and hosts. It was less a meal at an inn and more like a very lively and interesting dinner(breakfast) party. While everything on the menu was delicious, of particular note are the salmon, lamb and crème brulee. As it was our first trip to the lakes district, we relied on Steven's extensive knowledge of the area to guide us on places to visit, shop and hike. We were never disappointed with his suggestions or directions. Although the local weather did not cooperate - cold and high winds prevailed - the warmth and charm of this inn and our hosts left us with a very positive impression of the area. We will definitely plan a return visit. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Wonderful hotel and wonderful owners!"
Not sure what we liked better - the accommodation or the owners! Both in equal measure I think. The hotel itself is well positioned for exploring the local area, the rooms are comfortable and the food is OUTSTANDING - we ate in both nights, something we never do. The owners (and the other guests!) are friendly, full of great tips and interesting stories. […] We are planning to return soon! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Weekend In The Lakes"
Great little b&b. Stayed in the annex which was beautiful inside with some fantastic charm. The food served was brilliant as we're the hosts. Only concern was a number of cobwebs in and around the room, just a quick dust round the door ways and ceiling would leave the room perfectGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The rooms were very comfy and roomy and they accommodated us well with our four month old baby. The hotel was very clean and newly refurbished through out. We enjoyed the breakfast too. The location is also great with the beach just a 5 minute drive up the road. I would say it is very good value for money also for the room we had. We would stay aga […] in. "Perfect spot for wonderful views and walking"
This was such a find!! The attention to detail in this converted barn was lovely, it was warm, cosy and very inviting. The weather was wet and windy but it was wonderful to come in to a warm fire. A drying room provided to put all your wet things. The bedroom had a lovely view of the surrounding scenery, an incredibly comfortable bed, coffee and tea […] making facilities and was spotless. Stephen (the owner) is very attentive and his cooking is superb. We had a delicious eve meal and fabulous cooked breakfast. Def worth a visit, not difficult to find and a lovely place to explore. Fantastic hosts, lovely room, great food, couldn't have asked for more!Genuine Expedia guest review
We had an excellent experience of the Wayside. The food was exquisite and the room itself so much more than I expected. The situation was exactly right for us too and we had a great walk up Black Coome and trip to Muncaster. Highly recommended. Hope to go back again sooner rather than later! An added extra is the Whisky Barn, I went hating whisky and […] left with an appreciation for it, still don't like it but no longer hate it! A little heaven for anyone who likes it though! "A destination in itself"
04/12/15 Kirsten H Sydney, Australia
Wayside is more than just an extremely comfortable place to stay. The first thing that strikes you is the beautiful renovation of a centuries old property done by Steve and Lynn in a way that brings the building into the 21st century but with great respect to the historic structure. Anyone considering renovating an old building should stay here and be inspired. Ancient exposed beams team with modern fixtures with lovely restrained taste, giving a timeless feel. Our room was large with a big ensuite featuring large bath and separate shower and everything was sparkling clean. The views over hills and fields give a sense of peace and the location is wonderful for visiting the western Lake District. We were short of time and drove to Wast Water and Coniston but on a longer visit we would be walking over the hills and spending time surrounded by glorious scenery. If the weather turns bad, staying put would be comfortable in the cosy lounge with Steve's excellent cooking available for dinner as well as at breakfast. Plus there are all the whiskies to explore in the Whisky Barn. Wayside is not just a place for your head when touring the Lake District, it is a destination in itself. Highly recommended.
"Beautiful Place For A Cosy Lake Break ...."
04/07/15 sara W Birmingham, United Kingdom
We've just come back from a 3 day break at the Wayside. I'd seen the reviews and photos when my other half told me he'd booked us in there,so I was hopeful. I always say, "I'll leave a review on that" but never get around to it.. But for the benefit of you reading this, I will.. Reviews are important to leave if your stay has been that good. Now then..annex room is beautifully decorated.. Set your alarm the bed is soon comfy you won't want to get out of it,unless it's to sink into the beautiful roll top bath.. the whole essence of the room is cosy and relaxing.. Their little restaurant is again cosy and decorated beautifully.. with a log burner to snuggle up to on the cold evenings. We ate there every night of our stay, as the food was lovely.. they have a menu, but,I'm a fussy wotsit, and deviated from this on couple occasions.. you won't be disappointed with the food here I promise you.. if your like me and like your comfort puddings () Apple Crumble and custard.. Remember this one because, it's the best I've ever tasted. So much so that everyone else there then wanted some.. even the following day! Breakfast is extensive, very filling and gorgeous.. Food aside, The owners Lyn and Steve are very friendly and accomodating. And will go out of their way to make your stay there memorable. We will be back again this year with no hesitation.. Book your stay here.. you won't regret it..!

We couldn't of enjoyed our little break away more. My partner had chose Wayside for our holiday for my birthday so I didn't know what to expect, but as soon as we pulled up at the beautiful hotel I was over the moon. Greeted at first by the owners gorgeous dogs we then went in to meet the lovely Steve and Lynn (owners) who were very helpful on suggestions on where to visit in the area throughout our stay. My partner had booked us in the Annexe which had been beautifully renovated with its characteristics with modern appliances, the room was spotless and the bed was extremely comfy. Steve asked if we would like to eat in their restaurant that night and what time we would like to eat, the food was brilliant, all home cooked fresh produce, we liked it that much that we decided to eat there every night of our stay. After eating we decided to sit by the fire ,which when it is cold i can imagine to be extremely cosy, with our drinks and play some of the game provided which was a lovely end to a relaxed night.Being very flexible Steve would ask what time we would like breakfast, which again was lovely and very filling! We also had a packed lunch made up for us when we were planning on going on a walk which again was very helpful. Service couldn't have been more friendly, and we would recommend to anyone. We have already decided to go back in June :)
"Warm welcome, cosy environment, and cuddly dogs in chilly weather"
02/28/15 MrWorzel London, United Kingdom
This small hotel is a farm and barn dating from 1637, beautifully restored I believe by Steve and Lynne. We recommend this for a very pleasant stay in even the chilliest of weather. Our first night we had dinner in the restaurant which was a good choice as we were so tired after our journey. Although slightly on the pricey side, the fresh locally sourced produce we had were appetising main courses of fish, beef and pork prepared by Steve who is almost a Hester Blumenthal lookalike! I believe that Lynne made the puddings - delicious sticky toffee and creme brûlée. The bedrooms and bathrooms are particularly imaginatively renovated and well presented. The large, friendly and cuddly dogs were much appreciated by my brother in law and were the highlight of his visit. There is a wide selection of books and games which we were pleased about as the weather was sleet/icy rain much of the time which just accentuated the warm interior of Wayside! Both Lynne and Steve had lots of good suggestions of what to do and where to go and plenty of leaflets on display to help our decisions! We followed their advice about a couple of our visits and enjoyed Beatrice Potter's house and Wordsworth's Grassmere. Although if we had gone up on the top road we might have been stuck in a snowdrift! Lynne made a very good suggestion for supper our second night on the way back via the Farmers Arms in Ulveston although you have to allow about 30 minutes to get back.
"Dinner was delicious."
02/12/15 cathco Millom, United Kingdom
I live very local to the Whisky Barn so I haven't had the pleasure of staying, but I have eaten there and dinner was delicious. I had friends visiting the area and visited with them. My friends husband is a bit of a foodie and his tipple of choice is whisky so it was a no brainer as it was his birthday! ( I even bought him a bottle on the way out). The menu was not extensive and nor did it need to be, it was all local and seasonal, a wider menu would have just made it harder to choose! Service was personable and friendly and a fun time was had by all. Well worth a visit.
Stayed here from 18th - 21st December for a break before Christmas with my boyfriend. Absolutely amazing, the setting was fabulous and inside the decor is just what we like. So relaxing sitting by the fire with the Christmas tree next to us. Perfect way to spend a Christmas break. Steve was extremely helpful in showing us routes to get to places and things we could do and see. As for the food, had steak on both occasions we ate in and it was fantastic! Massive steak lover and by far the best steak I've ever had. Would definitely reccomend if you're wanting a peaceful break doing nothing!! Would definitely return xxx
"Love this place"
01/04/15 yorkiehappybunny Leeds
Just home from our 14th visit to Wayside since May 2012. Was there for 4 nights over the new year. It was great fun. The food was excellent as always. Cant praise the owners Steve and Lynne enough. They are ably assisted by their daughter Kayleigh too. We always have room 2 which is our home from home with a view up Black Combe to die for. We have no hesitation in recommending Wayside. If you have any interest in single malt whiskies you will love it even more. Looking forward to our 15th visit in the spring.
"Such a lovely place"

Booked 2 nights in the annex and it felt home from home. Such a lovely place to stay. Clean, smells fresh, warm and cosy, owners are really friendly and always service with a smile and when you are in your room it's nice and quiet! The bath was really lovely and the bed too omg such a lovely night sleep. Will be definitely returning next year! The food was delicious every mouthful was just perfection! Steven informed me where we can go to visit local places e.g the lake, beaches. I'm a nature person and it was lovely to be surrounded by nature, my batteries are now charged! Words cannot really express how much of a nice place and nice time I had! Love to all from Jaymie
"Quiet place and really nice owners"
11/25/14 Chip U
Had one of the most relaxing 2 days. I feel like my batteries are now recharged! Was lovely to get away and hear just nature around. Such a lovely place, stayed in the annex and so clean, warm and cosy it felt like home from home. Big fun of the bed ☺️ OMG the mattress is relaxing I wanted to take it home. Now Onto the food...what can I say?! DELICIOUS (I'm a fussy eater) usually don't like lamb but Steven advised to try because it falls off the bone and now after this I'm a lamb convert. Owners always willing to give advice on where to go e.g beaches, lakes around the the area. So welcoming, so friendly. Definitely will be returning next year!! P.S. I love the whiskey :)! Steven and Lynn you've done a really good job and you should be really proud of your place! ❤️love Chip .
