"Had potential but...."
Checked in at 7pm, went back to office to get towels at 9pm but office was closed, a call to the number on the door and was told we could pick towels up around 8:30am (we were leaving our room by 7:30am). The Floors creaked ( I apologize to who ever had the room below us) The Bed was stiff and the sheets smelled. Otherwise room and bathroom was clean. Couldn't drop key off to the office when we checked out, as the sign in the room requested, because again office was closed when we left in the morning. The Party in the parking lot at 3 am was a nice wake up call though : /

"Has everything it says but not worth the price"
I booked this place because it said it could accommodate 4 people. Well it does ... barely. It has everything the description says and it is conveniently close to where we needed to go. But all the amenities are cramped into a small space - made one of us claustrophobic for a bit. It was clean, looked updated but did not feel it worth for the money.

"Would definitely stay here again"
We were here for the Lake George Community Band Festival on one of the hottest weekends ever. This hotel was very close to Shepard Park, the high school, the lake, and restaurants. Our room was small but clean and had everything we needed. The renovated bathroom had a beautiful new vanity, and the rest was new and matching. However, towels needed to be thicker and baseboards finished painting. The pool was sparkling clean as were the tables and chairs on the pool deck. The front door needed a new coat of paint. Other than that, the price for the location and value was very good and the money we save by staying here we can use to eat out more!

"About what I expected"
The hotel fit my needs. Not very luxurious but I was looking for a reasonable rate and that it was. The bed was very uncomfortable. Cannot imagine sleeping on it for a week. Glad it was only one night. Nice bathroom but the "bath towel' was like a dish towel. The owner was very friendly and appreciated his warm greeting.

"Great location"
The Motel Montreal was a fun experience, especially for the price, given the location to Lake George. Gorgeous mornings with an easy walk to the lake. It was opening weekend, so there were a couple rough spots with plumbing, but the service was great and on-the-spot, so no big issue there. Room was functional though slightly smaller and older than pictures made them look. Would probably book again given the lake location and service.

"Enjoyable Weekend"
We had a great experience staying car show weekend. The new owner, Bob is very friendly and helpfull. Room was very clean, alittle cramped but had the necessities. The rate was ecconimical. The hotel was quiet and yet close enough to easily walk downtown or down the street to the lake. I would recommend this hotel and would go back again. Thanks again to the owner and staff for an enjoyable weekend.

"Motel Montreal stay"
The only bad thing I can think of is the doors didn't close very well without a little push. And the only reason is because it was alittle older. Front desk staff was extremely nice and welcoming and helped us with whatever we needed. We didn't use the pool but for being a smaller motel it looked very clean. The room was very clean, and although small it got the job done and had what we needed in it. The room didnt come with a blow dryer but as soon as i asked i got one right away. Great location if you want to be walking distance to the village. Will definitely return to motel Montreal.

"extremley reasonable and comfortable"
Very pleasant people to deal with. They made it known that they are always available for whatever you might need. My husband is recovering from hip surgery and they did everything to accomodate his needs including changing our room so he wouldn 't have to climb the stairs and letting us park in front of the office so we could cut thru the pool area to get to our room. The room was spotless though a tad small. Old tv with not very good reception. That being said, we were only there to sleep and shower. Great location. We go to the area every year to go to the races in Saratoga and have stayed at various other locations . You wont get a better bang for your buck than you will at the Montreal. Will return for sure.

"Fine, if you have modest expectations."
This is a small motel kept in relatively good shape. About a 10min walk for the heart of Lake George. Service was very friendly, although the first impression from the front desk is one of a lack of professionalism as the infrastructure looks at best, amateurish. But we had a calm stay and enjoyed the pool in the morning before we left.

"Good stay, but not for people traveling with large vehicles"
08/28/15 digitalgpbandit Monroe, New York
Stayed here for an overnight. The motel is located at the top of the Lake George strip behind the Lake Haven Inn and is walking distance to everything in the village. Staff seemed very friendly and the facility appeared to be clean. There is a somewhat steep entrance into the place, but you will be ok to get in without scrapping if you take it slow and go in at an angle if your in a lower sitting car. The parking lot is a bit cramped. Our room was on the back side by the exit and it was more cramped over there. One of our neighbors had a Chrysler 300 and it was a very tight squeeze to get past him with my midsize sedan. I do not recommend staying here if you have anything larger then a midsize sedan or suv. Makes me wonder how people did it in 1959 when they opened. The rooms weren't very big, but didn't feel cramped either. Ours had a high ceiling. It appeared to be clean as well, but could use a fresh coat of paint on the walls. There were a handful of scuff marks on them. The beds were actually comfortable, more so then other places we've stayed at in Lake George. I recommend bringing some extra pillows though. Our one annoyance was that the window curtains are too long. They cover over the ac which sits rights below the window. We had to stuff the window curtain onto the sill so we could enjoy privacy & ac. The bathroom was a decent size especially for a motel. All in all it was a good stay and we would definitely consider staying here again.

Our 2 night stay at the motel was great... Not only was it cost efficient ( which is an important factor) but was just around 5-6 mins from shepards park. The room was of adequate size for the price, and the provided swimming pool was nice. Our room was located on the second floor but that did not present as a problem in anyway. Parking was plentiful so rest assured the cars are safe.

"Excellent Room, Location, and Value"
08/22/15 Mehran M
Stayed 1 night on 8/20. Arrived at noon, but check-in wasn't until 3pm. Spoke to the owner and asked if there was a way we could park our car early and walk the village to kill time, and he was more than accommodating, even exiting the front desk area and directing us where to park. Motel location is just off the north end of Canada Street, making it a 10 minute walk to the village. This is great in that it allows you to never have to move your car, worry about finding a parking spot, or pay for parking meters (if you don't want to). Had a queen room, and have nothing bad to say about it. Room and carpets were clean, bathroom was immaculate, linens were spotless, TV and refrigerator worked perfectly, and the air conditioner was ice cold (it was 89 degrees with 90% humidity). Bed was comfortable and firm (which I like), and I had no problem sleeping after a long day of walking. Pool was a good size, and could accommodate a large number of guests if need be. Deck area and chairs were clean and in good condition, and the pool was spotless. The grounds were well kept, and there is a picnic area with charcoal grills that is accessible to all motel guests. The only complaints I have are minor at best, and I was not deducting from my overall score or review for it. As the room was in the second building and away from the front desk, the WiFi signal was weak, or dropped out completely. The parking area is also a little cramped, and one or two cars parking incorrectly an make for a tight squeeze in your spot. Pros: Great value, especially in high season Clean room Nice pool Location in proximity to the village Friendly owners who were accommodating Cons: Weak WiFi signal in second building Parking can get a little tight All in all, this was a very positive experience, and I don't see how the negative reviews I've read here are warranted. If you want a quaint family run motel in a prime location, with a clean, comfortable room, and a great value for your dollar, Motel Montreal is a gem! If you're looking for the Ritz-Carlton and all the amenities associated with a chain run 4 or 5 star hotel, you probably wouldn't be the person reading this review in the first place. I will easily return to Motel Montreal on future trips to Lake George.

The room was dirty. Food under couch cushions, on floor around coffee table and tags on the dresser in the bedroom. Needed updating as well. The pictures on the website look like a different place. We were quite disappointed. Unfortunate because the people we spoke to on the phone when reserving and asking for information seemed very nice.

We were not impressed with this motel. There are several positive aspects to this motel, but there are many negative factors that ruin the experience. Pros- the location is great: near the beaches, entertainment centers, and shops. -the pool was nice -the owner was friendly Cons - the bed was very uncomfortable since it was lumpy. The pillows were thin sheets of paper. As a result, I had difficulty sleeping properly. -You hear outside noises distinctively. A guy who had heavy footsteps was either constantly walking by our room or in his room next door and it woke me up every time he did so. -The room smelled bad.

"Basic Lodging Great Location"
08/15/15 Gypsiewoman BOYNTON BEACH
This motel falls on the budget end of the spectrum and as such it is fine for the price paid. The room decor is dated, the bathroom is very compact and the carpet can use an update. However, the room was clean and the bathroom was spotless. There was no hair dryer in the room. To be fair, many of the properties in Lake George are dated so this was reasonably priced compared to other similar choices. It is in an excellent location at one end of Lake George Village and we were able to leave the car and walk to everything in town hassle free. We had a comfortable stay and that's all we needed. If you want a basic room for a reasonable price during high season then you will be fine at Motel Montreal. Tip: If going there be sure to put Lake Ave. in your GPS because there is a Lake Street in Lake George so avoid being directed to the wrong location.

I have to say the room & lining were very clean; but the bed & pillow on the other hand sucked, the bed sagged making it very uncomfortable for two people & the paper thin pillow was rediculus. .. comparing with the surrounding motels this one Lacks curb appeal, the lady at the desk lack hospitality you're on your own no guidance or suggestions , when asked if the trolley pass near the motel. . She commented not reliable. ..which in fact its not so! Trolley is $1. Per ride arriving approximately every 20-25mins & just a few steps.along on Canada ave.. awesome way to see the village & surrounding town..

"An overall negative experience- best look for another budget motel"
08/11/15 HDTraveller Niagara Falls
I would not say that the place is a dump, however, I suppose you get what you pay for. It is true that this motel is one of the least expensive accommodations in Lake George and one has to scale down expectations, but travellers ought to take heed when deciding to stay here. I had booked three rooms for three couples travelling on motorcycles. On the positive side, the pool area was fine, and there were ample tables to sit about the pool. The pool was clean and guests can use the grills that are situated on the property. There is plenty of free parking and the location is really close to the core or central part of Lake George, so the location is a plus. Access to the hotel is fine. Our first impression was a total turnoff. We had booked three rooms and were not provided what we had requested. It seemed that due to our late arrival we were shuffled off to other rooms. Excuses were provided. In any event, The double room was not renovated, despite some reviews on this site and assurances from management that it was. Our roomhad a very unpleasant odour. The other rooms, both single, were not much better. The carpets looked like they had not been cleaned or shampooed since the turn of the millennium. The WIFI did not work unless you were within 25 feet of the front entrance. So we had no WIFI in any of our assigned rooms. Frankly, The rooms were the type of rooms you only stay in if you just need a place to crash. The rooms had a strange odour and one room was at the end, next to an opened cellar leading into an abyss with no barrier. One room had a door that could not be opened from the inside and my friends had to climb out the window. It was amusing and After much effort, the room was opened from the outside. The bathrooms were not updated despite being told that they were. Now, the piece de resistance. The arrogance of the owner manager knows no bounds. We originally booked one night. No problem. A day later we called back and had arranged for two nights. However after viewing the room we were balking about staying a second night due to the stench in the double room. We were basically told to take it or leave it, but it meant two nights. So what does this owner do? In a most antagonistic fashion he advises that he will only accept two nights as it has to deal with housekeeping issues. Funny how our original booking was fine for only a one night stay without any hesitation or housekeeping concerns. Moreover, he advises that he will refund our one night stay if we effectively don't remain for two nights. Right! No other option. On a weekend night, arriving after 5:30 pm, where else are we going to find accomodation in Lake George in the summer? While I wouldn't use the "Extortion" word, his entire attitude and the episode upset my wife and was totally unprofessional. Frankly, I had never witnessed such poor customer service in a motel of any star rating! However, as you could imagine, we had no choice and had to make the best of it. Apart from the stench, the beds were fine and there were no security or safety issues. The location was relatively quiet. In fairness, I suppose the manager later recognized his unprofessional attitude as he did provide a six pack of Guinness to the group. No doubt, reading the other reviews here, this owner manager will make his views known and will attempt to mollify these comments. So be it. There are times when a reasonable price is just not worth it. This motel is in dire need of customer service and a refurbishment. However, if it is for one night, and budget is a concern, and rooms in Lake George are scarce, I would suggest that you try to deal with the wife, I think her name is Narisha? She is pleasant and excused her husband's behaviour.

"Stay away! Rude owner, outdated, smelly, filthy..Bates Motel scary!"
08/11/15 Katie B Uxbridge, Massachusetts
We had a party of 8 staying there and rented 3 rooms. We paid $184 per night, per room. We were disgusted by the room's conditions and overall appearance of the exterior, by far the ugliest and most outdated of all the hotels in the area. Where to begin? Smelly, outdated, leaking sinks, blood stained sheets, stained mattresses, exposed boxsprings with no coverings on them at all, clearly showed their age, from 80's, said Marriott hotel so guessing they were bought at an auction or picked up from the Marriott trash dumpsters?, holes in comforters, which appeared to be from the 80's, dirty carpets, other guests trash left under our beds, (cans, empty shoe boxes, wrappers, etc., clearly there was no vacuuming done under the beds), strong odor of pot coming through the thin walls of next door guests, poor door locks/lack of security, free wifi not useable, no phone in room to call front desk for help and terrible parking lot. We went to discuss these matters with the owner. If you are going to charge $184 per night, you need to offer a clean, updated room. The owner was at the front desk wearing an old dirt t-shirt covered in stains and holes. In the background was his wife and children running around half dressed. The whole office smelled terribly, unsure if it was from dirty diapers or the owner? He was as professional as his appearance. We expressed to him our disappointment with the room conditions and that we felt it was overpriced. We told him we had looked up prices online for the following weekend and the prices for the same exact rooms we had were $40 to $50 less per night than what we had paid. We asked him why when we got 3 rooms from him, did we pay more per room? His responses to our issues, "too bad, the summer is when I make my money" and "goodbye ladies, GET OUT!" In regards to to the filthy rooms, his response was "this is not the first time I've heard of the rooms being dirty." It's not excuse to get a discount, the rooms truly are filthy. On our way out, I said we would not be coming back and before I could finish my sentence, he yelled at me "big shocker". He could not be more rude or less professional. If you want to stay in a dirty, smelly hotel and deal with a rude owner who accepts no responsibility for anything then this is the place for you!! Too bad, he must lose a lot of repeat visitors but that doesn't seem to be his concern. Stupid move on his end, all 8 of us have large families and we will be telling them and they in turn will be telling all their friends to STAY AWAY! Could have been a simple fix, match the rate you are charging the following weekend, he wasn't losing any money other than the overcharge that he unfairly stuck us with. Oh well.
