This is a very pleasant guest house in a town just outside of Garmisch and about a 15 minute walk from the Zugspitze rail. Dinner and breakfast were exceptional, home-cooked, and plentiful. I stayed here by myself for two nights. Regina took care of me like family on both days, including volunteering to drive me to the Zugspitze rail and to the Garmish metro when I left (both in the snow). She also was able to accommodate an early breakfast for me so I could catch my train on time. The house is from the 1890s and, although renovated, still has a simple, old Bavarian feel to it. The room was simple (had a deep bath tub, rather than mounted shower stall) but clean and comfortable. I was surprised at how pleasantly quiet the house was at night and slept very well. Lastly, they have a very cozy, copper fireplace w/ comfortable leather furniture in the front, bar area that is perfect for lounging in after a hard day of skiing. Highly recommend this hotel if you're looking for inexpensive convenience, comfort, and quiet!

We stayed at Fantasia for 1 night. As other reviewers have said, it's more like a bed and breakfast type of place, and it doesn't have a hair dryer or phone in the room like every other standard hotel out there (although I'm sure you can request a hair dryer any time) It's very adorable and cozy; the receptionist was very helpful and friendly. Room is small, but very very cute! I would recommend it to everyone.

The staff at the hotel was amazing! I made a mistake on my reservation but they were so helpful and pleasant accommodating us. The rooms were perfect (clean, spacious, nicely decorated), especially if you get a lake view with the Alps as a backdrop. The only downside is that the immediate town is very small so restaurant and shopping options are limited if you are walking. Fussen is very close and offers more options. We chose this hotel because it was close to the Neuschwanstein (King Ludwid's) castle and would stay there again if/when we are back in the area.

There was three couples that went on our trip. We all booked the same type of room at the same time. My wife and I arrived and we were put in the small single double room and the other two couples got a much bigger single double room. I was a little upset that all the rooms were not listed as being the same size. When I say small it was small!!

I don't care if there are 100 vacant double rooms in a German hotel if you are a single you will usually get a closet size single room. I feel like the maid traveling with my friends when they get big beautiful rooms while I am regulated to the tiny room nearby. Yes you pay less but they are using two beds while I have only one (German beds are usually […] like two twins pushed together) and they eat two breakfasts. Although my room at this hotel was a little larger than most singles it still had this austere atmosphere. It reminded me of a dorm room with sparse furnishings (desk, chair, bed). That aside, this hotel was absolutely everything it promised to be. Great location, helpful staff, clean, comfortable, free parking and a few minutes free WiFi (just enough to check your email). It even had an elevator, a rarity in small European hotels. I would stay here again but wish I had the option of paying a little more and getting a room with enough space to set up my suitcases, and a comfortable chair where I could sit and read or watch TV. A little table next to the comfortable chair where I could set my drink or book would have been nice. The hotel was within walking distance of everything in town but then again, everything is within walking distance of everything in this beautiful town. It also is a great base for touring the area - Ludwig's castles, Weiss Church, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Austria and the beautiful countryside (straight out of Heidi). Read more

We enjoyed our stay here. The front desk was friendly and service (and food) in the restaurant was good. Parking was complimentary, but the lot is small so it could fill up quickly in peak season. The wireless signal in the room could be better. Overall I would stay again.

The location and history of this hotel is amazing, right in the center of everything. Great for families because you can park the car in the parking lot and wonder the shops and museums. We had a wonderful breakfast with views of the shops and the mountains. I would go back for sure. My only complaint is there is no AC. Hotel Alte Post har fine rom og hyggelig betjening. Bodde på halvpensjon og var fornøyd med menyen. Hotellet lå greit til i Oberammergau sentrum med kort vei til langrennsløypene.

Hotel Alte Post er et vedlig bra vedlikeholdt hotell som ligger så sentralt som mulig i Oberammergau, har en meget god restaurant og servering. Sitter du i uterestauranten ser du det som beveger seg i "dorfe'en" og det er kort avstand til masse seeverdigheter i området.
