the staff are mostly very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is quite nice. It is within 20 minutes walk to the town centre. Bed was comfortable, bathroom small but had all the essentials. Reasonably priced. Nothing glamorous, but good.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to maritime Museum"
Would not repeat it. The room was clean but the ceramic tiles in the bathroom were moving under my feet. The street had noisy pedestrians all through the night. The hotel offers no amenities except a continental breakfast. The hotel is not suitable for the handicapped. It has a lot of stairs and no elevator. It is, however, close to the Citadelle and […] other points of interest. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Good location close to citadel and a nice walk to town and other sights. Small room and very small bathroom, but adequate for our 3 nights there. Could hear a lot of noise from room above us and air conditioner was a bit noisy in such a small room.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Commons in Halifax near Citadel"
Pleasant window near the bed, intimacy.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
the hotel is a bit dated and tired in its apearence. our bed was an absolute disaster, but the tv was very nice, maybe they should invest first in a new bed instead. but the location is allright, about 20 minutes walk to downtownGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Charming old structure, had a little trouble with the AC to set it lower, We had a specific need to be close to the hospital otherwise the lo0cation is good. IT worked out OK though. Loved thr Breakfasts.

"Good value for Halifax"
09/05/14 ladylodger Akron, Ohio
Our twin room didn't have any extra space but was adequate. The shower had plenty of hot water, and there was a variety of cold foods at the continental breakfast. Free parking was also a plus. We walked about 15 minutes to Quinpool Road and found a number of restaurants there.
"Okay for the money"

We stayed two nights. The bed was comfy, a bit noisy late at night, quaint furnishings and friendly staff. Breakfast was very, very basic. Coffee was just plain bad. Go to Timmy's for breakfast! It doesn't look like a hotel from the outside, so a little hard to find!

We weren't expecting a lot since we didn't pay much for the room but were surprised at how clean and comfortable our stay was! Bed was extremely comfortable, we had a nice big tv to watch and an outside deck to relax on. The place is very dated but very clean! Would stay again!

The hotel was clean and the staff extremely friendly and helpful. The room was not high end spiffy, but it was clean, the bed comfortable, and included a large screen tv, microwave and fridge. The free breakfast included bread, muffins, cereals, dress fruit, yogurt, kraft cheese slices and ice cream (didn't understand that but whatever). The hotel itself was a little worn around the edges but that gives it charm. It was a 10 min walk to the bus for the airport and a 15 min walk downtown. I felt it was definitely good value for the money and would stay there again.

Stayed at the Inn for 4 nights and it was an ok place to stay for the price. Nice neighbourhood, well situated for walking down to the harbourfront and breakfast was ok. The staff were helpful explaining about the town and they were flexible about check out time
"Quaint and Refreshing!"

This was our first trip to Halifax and the Commons Inn was recommended by a lovely lady at the tourist info booth in Peggy's Cove. Thank you so much, we really loved the place. The Inn was so quaint with antiques everywhere and a very comfortable room. This is an older building but great care was taken in keeping it up to standards. The Inn's walking proximity to downtown Halifax and the harbour made it the ideal place to stay. We would advise anyone to stay here.
"A Few Blocks from the Center"
07/20/14 OldRose62 Chapel Hill, North Carolina
This Inn was several blocks from the city center. We liked this because we like to walk. It was very quiet and both persons we dealt with were very helpful in giving directions, etc. This is not a fancy place but it is beyond basic. We thought it had been converted from a dormitory but were told that it was built as a hotel. The breakfast was mezza mez--the coffee was weak so if you are a coffee afficiando or just need a jolt to get going, you won't find it here.

We first picked this hotel to stay at because of the value (traveling in Halifax during peak season can be expensive, so we wanted to cut costs where we could). When we checked in, we were very pleased - the staff member who checked us in was very friendly and accommodating. When we got to our room, we found it to be very cute - all of the decor matched the feel of this quaint, old building. There was a large mini fridge and a new TV. The bathroom also appeared to have been newly renovated. The bed was EXTREMELY comfortable, too! The continental breakfast in the basement was perfect - coffee, tea, muffins, cereal, yogurt, toast...the list goes on! The staff kept the facilities very clean and well-stocked. Although the area isn't too close to the main tourist area (the Halifax waterfront), we took a lovely 40-minute walk down some residential streets to get there, even passing the old armoury that we never would have seen if we stayed closer to where all the action is! There is a lovely new bar nearby to the hotel, and ample access to transit as well. Although it didn't affect us at all, I would warn anybody with limited mobility about the fact there are no elevators (as far as we could see), so you may want to contact this hotel in advance to inquire about accessibility. Well done to everybody at this lovely little hotel!
"Halifax Resident Review"
07/16/14 Shannon M Halifax, Canada
I am a Halifax resident and have not stayed at this hotel but was pleased to see the postive reviews. I pass this hotel en route home most evenings and have seen this hotel being renovated from time to time and hoped that it was making a go of it. Agricola Street is a street in transition in a positive way with new businesses opening up all the time including those who cater to a healthy lifestyle, eating and exercise (bike shops, organic markets). A new bar has opened up as well which is very popular. It is close to the Halifax Commons and within walking distance of the Public Gardens and Citadel Hill as well. There is an area on the Commons for rollerblading and biking (ice skating in winter), tennis and picnicing. After reading the reviews, I would recommend it to any visitors.
"A nice place to stay!"
07/11/14 Buzzus Ottawa, Ontario
It was great - only reason for giving a 'very good' instead of 'excellent' is we were told by staff we would be able to see the harbour July 1st fireworks from the rooftop terrace. This info was incorrect. Otherwise it was a great location, large room - clean, bed was comfortable (pillows were a shade hard for my liking, but not rock hard), water pressure was good, towels were nice an soft (not sandpapery) ourbags were carried up to the top floor for us, breakfast was plentiful and there was free parking. All in all a good night stay.
