The Cricketers Arms - Hotel - Saffron Walden

Very personable combination of country bed and breakfast and local pub. It's not near anything at all, but makes up for it with tranquility and very nice staff. Highly recommended for a weekend getaway.

I was unhappy with the room booked as it didnt state shower only, after I mentioned to the staff that i wanted a bath, i was offered an up graded room at no extra charge. the staff were helpful and pleasant, the bar and restaurant were warm and cosy

Overall my stay was pleasant. Service almost excellent. Only problem was the night after whilst attending breakfast. This was poorly managed and abit of a mess. Eventually they sorted themselves out but not before i decided to stop asking for things, such as a large spoon instead of the tea spoon i had with which to eat my cereal.

The lock on the bedroom door didnt work. The room i stayed in (5) was superb and had everything i wanted apart from a bath. The room was warm and very comfortable. The evening meal was fantastic as was breakfast.

Well presented hotel in a quiet village location next to the village cricket green. Plenty of parking round the back of the building. Reception from staff was very good, polite and attentive. Room was clean and well equipped with flat screen tv and tea/coffee making equipment. First room, lights wouldn't work but relocated to second room quickly, no […] problems here. Dining offered a range of good quality food in a pleasant dining area, reasonably priced too. Lounge area was a nice place to sit and relax, very quiet. Bed was comfortable but room did get a little too warm overnight for my liking, had to turn down the radiator in the middle of the night. Would recommend for couples or business travellers but didn't see any facilities for children. Would use again when in this area. Read more

A lovely country pub with a roaring log fire and very friendly staff. A beautiful situation overlooking the village green with the local cricket club having a pint and a meeting to add authenticity! You will not just come across it by chance. It is off the main road in a very pleasant location overlooking cricket ground and pavilion. Plenty of parking. Decent menu selection if all offered. The Inn is a little hard to find, off the main road and set well back from the road by the gree, but it's worth it. The rooms are mostly in a modernized area behind the old building, with convenient parking. No elevator for upstairs rooms, lots of fire doors would make it awkward for people with mobility issues. The high point for the Cricketers is the restaurant, which has an excellent menu that goes well beyond typical pub food, tastes good and is nicely presented. This is a nice pub stay which I'd use again. Well decorated, comfortable and cosy rooms which are a only little let down due to lack of attention to detail with some maintenance issues in the rooms (TV not working in one, wobbly toilet seat in another), although we couldn't fault them when they offered us another room. Not sure how much there is to do in the area as my girlfriend and I were just there for the night but as we rocked up, there was a cricket game going on, on the green and it was all very picturesque. That aside, the hotel/inn/pub was great and the staff were really helpful, friendly and accomodatiing. Breakfast was good and a good size, too.

A very nice pub/hotel, had a lovely room very comfertable bed. Good bar food and had a very good breakfast choice. Plenty of free parking and would be handy for the airport if needed.

Excellent accommodation, great value for money, will stay there again when have an early flight from Stansted. Good quality food, just be careful if staying on a Sunday though - as the kitchen closes at 6pm.

It was a last minute booking, due to my normal hotel in Newmarket not being available, (Due to "Ladies Day" at the races). The Hotel is circa 20 miles south of Newmarket, within striking distance of Stansted airport. It is situated in a very pretty village, behind the village green, where no doubt the cricket is played every Sunday....Hence the name […] of the Pub. It was very friendly, clean and homely. The price of the room was "Cheap", given the overall 5 star treatment, provided by the staff. I was over joyed to find this hotel - comfortable, clean and relaxing for a very reasonable price. The food was fantastic too, and the whole atmosphere was one of complete acceptance, almost like being at home, but with waitress service. Sehr nette Umgebung, sehr schön zum Entspannen, da der Cricket-Platz grade vor dem Hotel steht. Insgesamt schön aber nicht super sauber, wie in vielen B&B und englischen Hotels. Das Frühstück war leider nicht das Richtige, einfach nicht lecker.
