"We had a great view of the river!"
Well the step into the bathroom was awful! Can't imagine being any older and having to step up or down! No decent light for make-up! The heat works to good had to open window to not sweat to death. Your staff was excellent!Genuine Expedia guest review
"NOT worth the money!"
I stayed here because of the amenities which are nice (pool, gym, basketball court). None of these amenities were worth the terrible nights stay. The walls are paper thin and I could hear everything from a 4-5 room radius. The rooms are supremely dated and dirty. I don't typically leave harsh reviews but I'll never stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hotel was very clean and comfortable."
This was my first stay at this hotel. I was pleased and very comfortable. Staff was excellent. Bed was very comfortable. I will use this hotel again.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Monday night football"
We enjoyed St. Louis and the Missouri Athletic Club. Nice hotel, very classy. Close to sports venues and attractions. Next time we'll stay longer.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We were in town for a concert and chose to stay here...but this place would be ideal for a sports fan! Very very close to the stadiums! Also close to the Arch and other great sites. Hotel is old and with that comes things like smaller rooms and more "classic" amenities which we thought were great, but may not work for everyone. Lots of history, and […] things to do and see right in the hotel. I did take away one half point because we stayed on a Sunday night and the restaurant was not open for dinner, and the other half point because I couldn't get the wifi to work (to be fair I didn't bother to call down and ask or anything so I can't really complain!) Other than that everything was top notch and the staff was truly the nicest I've EVER encountered! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Recommendations for the owner"
I was very disappointed when I arrived at the hotel with my three guess. The place could be nice if it was clean. The floor was so dirty in the elevator, the hall and room. There was no shower curtain in the room, and the stopper in the face bowl was broke. I became ill the next day after I arrived and could not enjoy my trip.Genuine Expedia guest review
My wife recently developed a heart problem, a few weeks before we arrived, they where very helpfull and left a wheelchair with us for our stay.... To the club, thank you very much.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to stadiums."
Older hotel, very nice staff but rooms are small and rooms do not have individual A/C controls. Next to freeway so if facing you can hear the traffic but convenient locatoin.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Close to Busch Stadium and Edward Jones Dome"
A hotel full of character! Don't see many like this anymore.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice...if you want to stay in a dorm room"
Very disappointing. I thought I was getting a great deal considering the more expensive options. However, you get what you pay for. The hotel is old and outdated, the bed was hard, the pillows were hard, and the shower had standing water. Yuck! Just an overall bad experience.Genuine Expedia guest review
Loved this historic, well located hotel. Very comfy beds and good athletic facilities. Great club environmentGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"It's All About The Staff"
Being an endowed, no debt, members only club, they can indulge patrons with a forgotten era of personal services and facilities - there are staff everywhere and as a hotel patron you are treated as a member (note: not the pathetic Cancun "you're better than us service", but real understanding of your needs). If you appreciate service as conducted in […] the 50's and 60's in the US this place is a pleasant time tunnel. The facility is old and run down, but I don't care because the ambiance is in every corner (you don't see service people at the chains because that money is used to service their debt - the chains have an exercise room but this place has a three floor gym with ball court, swimming pool, running track, massage and full dressing rooms). If you are looking for shinny, supper clean, new, where you reside in splendid isolation - go to a new hotel in the burbs. But if you want a menu where the choices are limited but everything is good, if you want to sip 18 year old Scotch with a cigarette and watch a game, if you don't want to always be moving money around in your wallet to pay in cash and tips (billed to your room) - this is the place. "Not worth $$$$"
Everything worked. Staff very courteous. But rooms are very old and look it physically. Bed, tv, desk . . . Did not look old, but walls, carpet, bathroom did. For the price, stay elsewhere and get the whole package nice. Did not use any of the amenities, so if you are going for those, and old doors, walls, . . . don't bother you, it may be worth it […] . "great hotel for price"
Hotel is a little outdated but great customer service. Great location. Will stay there again!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The location of the hotel was perfect for the Jags vs. Rams game. The staff was absolutely amazing, the rooms were comfy and clean and looked like they were kept in old time style on purpose.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great place to stay!!"
Loved the look of the hotel. The place is old and I love that style. Located right by Edward Jones Dome which is why we went to St Louis. Everyone there was super helpful. We played around in the full basketball court which was fun. The only thing I didn't like was the dress code in lobby but it didn't really affect us too much since we were there on […] gameday & sports attire was allowed. I will definitely be staying there again next trip. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"History on every wall"
The feel of real artisans at work with the beauty in the architecture.Genuine Expedia guest review
Older hotel. Very small rooms, extremely small restroom, not many electrical plugs, too many power strips. Internet difficult to connect. Drafty under door adjoining rooms. Severe cigar smell in lobby. Noisy halls, middle of the night guest cussing at someone, echoed into the room. It must have been a charmer in it's day. Not impressed with the "club" […] feature. Service great. Clean room, but extremely dirty carpet. The double bed mattress should be changed, we "rolled to the middle". Walking distance to attractions near or around the Arch. Can not rate the meals, we did not eat at the hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Room was warm and wouldn't cool. Hotel parking was an extra charge which I was led to believe was included. Bed was uncomfortable and squeaked. I did not rest well. Also bath was step up and was not marked.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"A Man's Place to Stay"
Stayed at MAC for a Rams game; could hit a 9 iron to Ed Jones Dome from the hotel. The condition of the hotel is ageless; however, the rooms are aged. My shower was a small brick stall with the paint peeling off. Not a deal breaker for me. But the room was clean, comfortable and NOT HUMID! A/C worked great. Nice 1/2 mile walk to Busch Stadium even though […] they have a shuttle available. The reason for the 3star neighborhood rating is it's downtown St Louis right next to I-70 - so a little noisy, but I sleep heavy. The restaurant's were great, but they smoke cigars in them so allergy sufferers beware. This is a private athletic club with rooms so don't be put off by the members. Some members were friendly and chatty, others were arrogant and aloof. No big deal. They do have a dress code, no tshirt in the lobby area. Amenities were awesome; fitness/workout area and pool were worth the $12 surcharge. The desk help was the best; Jheri at the counter is my reason for going back. Loved her. Stayed at Embassy Suites a few blocks away the next night and will come back to MAC for my St Louis visits. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Old hotel near the Arch"
The online photos of the lobby gave me the impression that this would be a nice facility with some character and history. I liked the location because it was near the Arch. The lobby was a reminder of another era in America. However, most everything above that was disappointing to me. The hallway to my room smelled damp. The best description of my room […] was "old". It was small, but that's the way rooms were in the early 20th century. The bed was a king, but flat and didn't seem like great quality. As I stood in the room, I decided that one could take the small flat screen TV, the digital alarm clock and the phone out and everything else would look like 1975. The shower was an old tile model that reminded me of an old high school locker room. Those same tiles were on the bathroom floor and it didn't look very clean. There was an attached parking garage that costs $9.00 or $12.00, depending on who you asked about the price. I had to park in the 3rd floor, use an old elevator to get to the street level, walk across a back street and into the back side of the hotel. This looks like a cool place for senior railroad-type guys to hang out, wear blazers and smoke cigars. The facility is obviously set up to cater to the actual members of the Missouri Athletic Club. Not a family-friendly environment, though. I wouldn't recommend to business travelers, either. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Bathroom Needs Remodeled"
The room was great, but the bathroom only had a shower and the paint was peeling off the door trim. I thought this was a deficit since this is an expensive hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Tried to find the charm..."
This is a good value for the area, but overall we weren't thrilled. This is an old athletic club with a lot of charm in the lobby. You can really get a sense of what it must have been like back in the day. Lots of wood (overpowering smell of Murphy's Oil Soap), wing chairs and old paintings. The rooms however, were not as charming. The bathrooms are […] small with no counter space. It was very cold on our floor - we literally had to open the windows in the middle of summer to be comfortable enough to sleep - this was after we turned off our room air conditioner. The beds were very firm. For those that like that, I guess it's a good thing, but for us - not at all comfortable. Even though the hotel seemed very clean, there was a very musty smell throughout. Next time we come to St. Louis, we will stay somewhere else. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"birthday trip for wife memory trip for me"
I worked at this facility back in 1979 as a busboy in the Main Dining Room, I was truly astonished to see it looks the same as it did back then with all the oak and smells of cigars. It reminds me of what a trip on the Titanic would have been like for 1st and 2nd class. I love all the art work adorning the walls, The dark wood paneling the work out […] facilities are great. There are billiard tables on the 8th floor and an observation deck with tennis court. The people are very friendly, it was a very wonderful and memorable experience. Would do it again. I must say I happened on this place by accident, originally wanted to stay at Chesire Inn, however the rates were very high due to students coming back to Washington University. Glad it happened this way. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"This hotel was a hidden surprise"
From the outside it did not look very nice and was kind of hard to find. The inside is a beautiful old gentlemen's athletic club with great artwork and fabulous woodwork. "Beautiful, Historic Hotel"
Lobby is beautiful, staff is outstanding. Hotel is close to casino and Landing. We did have a very pleasant stay. Rooms were dated. Very thin walls, could hear our neighbors conversations, etc. Health club and pool were closed due to holiday weekend, Hotels.com did not mention that when booking.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Excellent service, great club atmosphere."
We were very happy with the Missouri Athletic Club. Great location and the staff were excellent. The Jack Buck restaurant is the best place you'll find anywhere downtown. Country club type service with moderate prices, and the food was excellent. This place is much nicer than staying in a chain hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This hotel was very clean and staff was so friendly and helpful. Common area in lobby is beautiful. This used to be a private club and we feared we may not be able to eat in the restaurant wearing casual clothing. But we were made to feel very welcome and the food was great. "easy to access"
The entire staff were wonderful. Couldn't ask for nicer people. I was disappointed in the rooms. I had reserved two and both need updated. Wallpaper was coming off the wall, carpets were stained, bathrooms need updated. I realize that the structure is older and some things are not possible to update, but carpets and wallpaper is not one of those.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This hotel is not worth the money at all. TV did not work in the bedroom & no one knew how to fix. The air conditioner did not work well and there was no power outlets in the bathroom. Hotel is in bad need of renovation. Lobby area is real nice but the rooms are awlful.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Unique and a good value"
MAC has a lovely grand lobby and sitting rooms reminiscent of what it was: an early 20th Century club, complete with wood paneling and artwork. Rooms are small comfortable and clean, if a bit worn. No outlets in the bathroom were a minor inconvenience. Good value, good location, great staff.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Nice hotel close to Busch Stadium"
Although the rooms are smaller than what we are used to the entire staff was excellent. "Probably won't go back."
The hotel itself was awesome and the staff was great, but I went for the ability to play basketball and swim they were closed most of the time I was there. That was disappointing and wasn't listed on the Hotels.com website.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel room was very nice. The pool was not available on Sun. or later in the day on Saturday. The location was excellent. Dinning Room as also very good and terrific service.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Old, smelly, but a decent place to lay your head"
This hotel was in the mid price range and I suppose that I got what I paid for (somewhat). Overall, the hotel is located downtown and I was right in the middle of the action of St. Louis. I was a bit shocked to find that I had to pay extra to use the hotel facilities (swimming pool and athletic center). I would think that those amenities come with staying […] in the hotel. I was more shocked by the musty smell that also stayed in the room for our entire stay. The sheets were clean, the bathroom was old, but relatively clean, but the smell was something that I feared would leave with me in my clothes. I would suggest a bit of an upgrade to the bathroom and air freshener. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great price for a great location"
The hotel common areas are beautiful and the staff was helpful and friendly. "I enjoyed the fact that it was close to everything"
The experience was pleasant. We were able to park in their parking garage and walk to nearby attractions such as the movies and the City Museum. However, we found that their pool and gym were closed on Sunday when we were there. One of the main reasons I chose this specific hotel was because to the facilities. I have three young sons.
