It is a very nice hotel to stay in while visiting Kyoto. Highly recommended! I will definitely stay here again for my next visiting.

Had a very pleasant stay at Monterey Kyoto - it's a gorgeous European styled hotel. The rooms are comfortable and relatively big by Japanese standards. Hotel staff was very helpful in showing us where to go and which bus to take. They even had bus/metro passes handy to sell, which was very convenient. Great hotel.

Very nice hotel. Rooms were on the larger side when compared with typical Japanese hotels. The front desk was very helpful and the breakfasts were good.

I liked the hotel; right next to a great shopping street. Also, not too far from some great sightseeing. I would return for my next visit.

The hotel is directly across from Kyoto Station, making it extremely convenient, especially if you have been traveling for a long time. The sign for the hotel is not large, however, but not difficult to find. The staff is polite and speaks enough English to communicate, and is very helpful with directions. Buses are available across the street to virtually any location in the area. The hotel is clean, though the rooms are small (as is typical in Japan). We were pleasantly surprised to have strong wifi in our room. We were disappointed that there was no Japanese bath.

Located in Kyoto (Higashiyama), Yoshi-Ima is close to Gion Corner, Kiyomizu Temple, and Kyoto Imperial Palace. Also nearby are Nijo Castle and Heian Shrine.

"antique shopping"
The Inn (Gion) was an experience.. It is a nice, quite place in an active night area. We were older guests, who were a bit surprised by the lack of grab bars for a very deep tub in the bathroom, and raised thresholds, a bit of a hazard for midnight visits to the WC. Futon sleeping and low chair sitting does not lend itself for aging western bodies. […] Our error in booking more than one night. Very nice staff with sense of humor. I would stay in area once more, but would rather stay in a modern facility where after a long days exploration one could sink into a comfortable chair or bed to recuperate. "Gion Yoshi-Ima - Excellent Service"
We stayed in better, cheaper hotels throughout our holiday in Japan, but this one definitely excelled for service. The lovely older lady that served dinner and breakfast definitely made our stay at the hotel. Ryokan dont le prix est excessif malgré un accueil correct et une excellente cuisine. Mais il est possible de trouver dans les restaurants alentours le même niveau de prestation. Ensemble décevant par rapport au prix élevé.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
