"Not really a hotel."
Rooms are actually partitions of a space. There is only a bed and a small closet. Power outlets are right above the bed, so there is nowhere to put your cellphone while sleeping. Bathrooms are not clean.Genuine Expedia guest review
Price of hotel was ridiculous ($91 tax included) for its living conditions, which were absolutely ridiculous we walked in the room expecting a decent room. Come to find out, the bed took up 90% of the space, tv had about 3 channels functioning not to mention I was able to touch both walls simotaniously from head to toeGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Worth money you pay"
I stayed for about 3 days in. You can't expect having ***** service and all features, otherwise it's a pretty quiet inside during the day and night, even you can hear your neighbor walking thru the hallway. It's really cheap and affordable in special if you just need a place to sleep. The only thing - was too cold inside, I couldn't complaine or expect […] more for money you pay. Hotel is extremely small. small like a walk in closet. A small bed and that's it. It's on the 5th floor no elevator. It's not a good experience although its dirt cheap and really good with location I wouldn't stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"An experience akin to prison"
Only choose this hotel in dire circumstances. I made the mistake of booking at the last minute from my phone, without reading any reviews. I will never make the same mistake again. My room was not so much a room as a cage. It was barely any bigger than the single bed it contained, so small in fact that I was forced to drag my suitcase out onto the […] corridor every time I needed to lay it down and take something out. The cage did not have a ceiling of its own. Instead, it had wire mesh above it, and several feet above that was the ceiling of the overall room. That room contained approximately 40 cages altogether. There was thus no noise insulation, meaning I was woken up in the middle of the night by neighbors who were talking on the phone. There was also no smell insulation, meaning I had to smell their cigarette smoke. There was also no light insulation, meaning it was light in my cage throughout the night, even after I had turned off the light. The air conditioning takes place via one unit for the entire floor/room. It was incredibly loud and I was immediately underneath it, meaning sleeping was impossible. Another reason I couldn't sleep is that I was too cold. Others I spoke to agreed, it was far too chilly. I mentioned this to the receptionist in the morning and received a blank look (he genuinely said nothing at all in response—perhaps because he spoke little English). On the plus side, it is cheap and was clean, for the most part (see photos). Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

the 5th floor smells ok, the rest of the floors smell like a poultry farms...Genuine Expedia guest review
Ok first of all I do understand the part of you get what you pay for in Manhattan. 1. There is no elevater 2. There is virtully no hot water nor water pressure when taking a shower and no place to set your soap or shampo and bring your own face cloth they will give you a small towel. 3. The rooms 5 X 9 max the Alcatraz prison in CA is 10 X 7 and a twin […] bed to sleep on. Bottom line these guys really push the what you pay is what you get. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Could' have been better if...."
I get that you get what you pay for and I didn't mind the small closet-sized room and the pretty clean shared bathroom. And they did give you a towel, some paper disposable slippers, and toiletries. What did bother me and made the night's stay very unsatisfactory were 1) some weird grease stains on my sheets and mattress cover that i had to avoid when […] sleeping making it uncomfortable as I was balanced on one half of the mattress and 2) there is an AC vent RIGHT ABOVE my bed making the temperature in my little closet-room literally like a refrigerator. I had to put on my sweatshirt and hoodie on just to get maybe 2 hours sleep. If they can't provide a comfortable sleeping environment then what's the point of a hotel. Also there was a lot of construction noise outside and you can hear your neighbors coughs pretty easily as there is no ceiling just a metal net above your head that covers all the rooms, but I solved the noise problem with my earplugs. It COULD be a great deal if they solved the cleanliness issues and if you get a room without the AC right above your bed turning it into a refrigerator. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great location and did the job"
For the price and location, this was worth it. Because of the reviews and the low price, I was concerned that it could be scary or gross. It was neither. The guests were tourists and the bathrooms were cleaned every day. Other than that, it was stark. Our double room had only a bunk bed. It was tight, but though the two of us fit in one bed. The common […] bathrooms get dirty by morning, but no big deal. It was tiny. We had no window and no room for a chair. There were noisy people. But who cares. It was NYC. "Great location but everything else was..."
Sun bright hotel is located in Chinatown conveniently a few blocks away from the several stops of the subway system. After staying out late, it was very easy to return to the hotel in just a few minutes in the subway from pretty much anywhere in manhattan. That being said, i really cant think of anything else positive to say about the hotel. I stayed […] in a male "Semi-private room", and if you are wondering what that means.... It means that your room has four walls but it does not have a ceiling. Of course the floor has a ceiling but it is high above the four walls of your room, and your walls are covered on the top with what appears to be chicken wire. So you return late from your fun day in manhattan, you are really tired, you lay down on your bed and turn the light off... Except the ceiling is exposed wire so the hall lights keep your room moderately lit. It also means that you are open to the mysterious noises that come from the room next to you which includes some guy coughing all night, some gentleman speaking in some unfamiliar language on the cell phone in the morning, some guy snoring his face off, and a choir of different people in different rooms farting all night. The bathrooms were down the hall, and there are several per each floor so i never had to wait in line for an open bathroom. They were damp most of the time from the steam of other people's showers. "A Barracks In the "Big Apple"."
For $49.00/night obviously one should not expect the Plaza & this is far from it. Assuming all you need is a bed and a place to shower this is OK. "10 Reasons to Stay at Sun"
1) Unique experience, 2) See how room sizes are in Tokyo without have to fly there, 3) Kung-fu characters around...honestly most of them more towards the villain style, 4) You will feel like a hero whenever leaving the hotel alive, 5) You will be amazed whenever you cross other people like you staying at this place, 6) I took pictures of the room, aisles, […] etc. and had a lot of fun sharing with my friends - they could not believe there was such a place in NYC, 7) In the pass over week (prices were absurdly high) I saved at least $ 150.00 a night - just the savings bought me a nice iPhone 5, 8) the rooms in the 5th and 2nd floor are actually cleaning, 9) They clean the shared bathrooms early in the morning so when you go take shower they are actually fine; 10) they provide handy items such as paper sandals, toothbrush, etc. so even if you forget one of these items you will be fine. For the money and the adventure, this is a go...but...make sure you understand this is not a regular hotel not even by a far stretch Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Good for just sleeping"
Well what I read in the previous reviews of other visitors I though it was gonna be worse than I though. But it seems ok but definitely not no five or four or even two stars lol. But again the rooms are tiny, like a 10 feet long and 5 or 6 feet wide. I only slept and that was the reason I got it since I didn't even stay in the room during the daytime […] since I wanted to see the Big City. Like the othere reviews said there is shared bathrooms on all floors and I was on the 5th floor so if you can't walk up stairs then find somewhere else since this place doesn't have a elevator, so if you just looking for a place to sleep and not worried bout five star cleanliness or service and don't mind sharing bathrooms then this is the place for you :) Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"A hostel is simply basic accomodation"
If you keep in mind this is a hostel and not a hotel, it is okay for basic accomodation, in Chinatown which means good eating if you're at least open to trying asian food. The bathrooms are usually clean, water was never hot but lukewarm...meaning usable.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Bring Ear Plugs and a Mattress!"
If you stay there take ear plugs and a mattress - I hardly slept the room itself was clean, The floor that I was on was actually not bad. But that's where it stops! I was on the 5th floor and had to walk through four floors of stink and disrepair. One floor actually had a dirty kitty litter box and scroungy looking cat. If I hadn't prepaid I would have […] checked out after the first night. No ceilings so the noise in surrounding rooms and from outside was close enough to touch. One guy snored so loud that my ear plugs didn't even block it out the second night. The street noise went on all night long - not sure why the acoustics didn't seem to block ANYTHING? I have stayed in hostels and shared space before but none were this disappointing... The only saving grace was the clean room and relatively clean bathroom... Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"The Sun Bright Crap-Hole."
I am a college student, and I was honestly looking for somewhere cheap and easy to stay during my two-night stop in NYC. This place was God-awful. The smell, the cleanliness of the entire building (I saw a homeless man urinating on himself in the front entrance to the building - INSIDE), the lack of staff, and THE SMELL. It's terrible. You're better […] off sleeping on a Subway train. Save more money to go somewhere else, or use a service like AirBNB or Couch Surfing. This hotel, though cheap, isn't worth a single penny. Although the location was good, and we found parking, there were a few issues for us. We thought the bed was very hard. Also, the walls are very thin!
