Cute old little motel surrounded by historical the cutest little town called Angel Camp which is famous with jumping flog festival. Nice location to get to Yosemite national park. People are friendly and the hotel is totally good enough with the price!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Just right for an overnight stay"
We road the motorcycle to Angel's Camp with the intent on attending a show at a nearby winery. The place is a simple roadside auto court with smaller than usual rooms. It was clean, quiet and had adequate air conditioning for the conditions. The rooms have a low shaded veranda along the parking area that make it a comfortable place to sit outside the […] door. I found it refreshingly charming. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice for the Price"
We stayed here along with 3 other couples as our motorcycle group was having an event in Murphys. For the price this was exactly what I expected. The room was clean, the staff was very nice and helpful. The only thing wrong was the bed was to hard for us. We would stay here again if we go back to Angels Camp.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very nice "Mom Pop" motel!"
The motel and grounds are very well kept with table and chairs outside to sit and enjoy the weather. The motel staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and comfortable. Nice place!Genuine Expedia guest review
Nice clean and quiet basic motel. The electrical hookup for the bed's reading light was a little frayed, but they said they would fix it when I brought i to their attention.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Stopped by for night to get an early start for Yosemite. Only an hour's drive from the park. Room was good and bed was great. Shower was excellent! Recommended.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great service, great place!"
We needed an affordable hotel and we chose that one because it was 3 minute drive from our destination. We had an unexpected friend join us in the evening so we needed to upgrade the room to 2 beds. We got a great upgrade ~ 2 beds and a sofa (where out 5 y.o. ended sleeping). The room had a big fridge and a coffee maker ~ all that we needed. Heating […] worked well so we didn't freeze and the shower had hot water ~ thank YOU! :) Direct TV worked well, too! :) The owners were extrememly helpful and corteous, people of the heart. Even though we usually stay at higher standard hotels, we would definitely stay at Jumping Frog Motel at Angels Camp again. We go to places for the outside fun and adventure so we don't need anything fancy-shmancy so this motel is PERFECT for overnight relaxing. THANK YOU, beautiful owners! We love YOU and appreciate your effort Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
My. Wife could smell urine in the room. Since it was a place to sleep while we were in the area the can of Fabreeze I bought at the grocery store helped the second night. They made the bed and took care of the restroom but didn't replish the coffee. Glad there was a Starbucks a few blocks away.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Simple and Affordable."
This place is really simple and cheap. It does the job for the price. There is air conditioning and a fridge and wifi. There is not a pool. There is a nice yard with picnic tables for eating and its close to walking distance to the grocery.Genuine Expedia guest review
Spent 3 days here, while we were Jet Skiin on New Melones Lake...All was wonderful...Great place to stay, while in Angels Camp...!!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great Stay - Nice Management!"
The hotel was conveniently located, the room was clean, the management went out of their way to give me a wake up call to make sure I got the right start for a successful fishing trip. All in all would definitely stay there again!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Old but pleasant"
This motel is probably 100 years old. The bathroom and shower were primitive and nearly made me want to find another place. BUT the owners were SO accommodating, and earnest in hoping we would stay, the motel located so conveniently for our purposes, and half the price of the newer lodgings we decided to give it a chance. It did have a small refrigerator, […] microwave, ans coffee pot. We walked a block to a shopping mall for anything we needed. The town of Angels Camp is quaint and full of history. If cost is not important We wouldn't recommend this motel, but if you want to accept the age and condition, it was clean and comfortable enough. We laughed and said we could pretend we were camping. And the owners worked so hard to please. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Cute, Clean, and Convenient"
For what we paid, this is a cute, clean, and convenient hotel. Nice yard area that my kid loved playing in. Room was very clean. Don't understand why it was rated low by others - I thought it was a steal for the cost!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Motel was clean, and manager was very helpful. Rooms was a bit small, but did fit the two beds okay. Had a problem with the ants attacking the movie popcorn left out overnight. "Clean and cheap"
Very Satisfied with room. Clean, cheap and close to several wine tasting rooms in Murphys. Not a bad place to stay when getting out of town in the Sierra Foothills.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Run for your life"
The outside was poorly maintained, the room stank, the water was yellow, the building must have been cheap in the 1930 and is ratty now. Stayed barely 2 days and had no room service or fresh towels. Should be bulldozed down.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Ok for short stop over"
The motel was small and somewhat rustic, but it was comfortable and quiet. Served our purpose of an overnight stay on our road trip. Only complaint was that there was no hair dryer. Did include a microwave and small refrigerator.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great place, if you normally live in your car."
We stayed here based on previous guest's ratings and we would not stay here again. We travel alot and have stayed at one star, five star and everything in between. I rated this a 2 because it could've been worse; although I was greated by a spider when I turned down the bedding, there were no bedbugs! The minifridge had slime in the bottom of it that […] smelled like liquor and there was hair on the floor in the bathroom. The A/C was at the end of a small walk in closet and took hours to cool the room down. A small TV was mounted high on the wall facing the bed. The pillows were flat and heavy with dust mites and I couldn't tell if the linens were dirty or just stained. I would not use any of the drawers in the unit as some of them were crumbling from dryrot. The ice machine was broken, but I was directed to a small room with a stove and fridge (group kitchen?) that had a bag of ice in the freezer. A positive was the location, within walking distance of several fast food places. Rustic is one thing, but this place had no charm appeal at all, and perhaps Angel's Camp has no better, but I will try somewhere else next time. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Living on the cheap"
The bed was hard, the shower water pressure was less than the sink's faucet, the pillows were flat. If that doesn't matter to you and you want a really cheap hotel, then this is for you. It wasn't dirty, the place was kept clean, it's just old and needs updating. The nice thing is that you park directly outside your room so unpacking and packing is […] super fast!!! "Nice place to explore surrounding areas"
The owners were very personable and anxious to please. The only thing that could be improved upon was the location of the a/c. It was back in a closet and took a long time to cool the room. Room was cool eventually.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to many attractions"
I travelled with my husband here, we both really enjoyed.away from the busy city life in a quite neighbor hood. It's near to the caves and big trees. Lot of winery to go taste.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Basic accommodations, but good. No breakfast provided. Restaurants and Starbucks nearby. Easy to find and close to shopping tourist area. Room very clean. Quite, except for an air conditioner that made a bit of noise.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"okay if you don't want to pay too much"
For what this is, it wan't terrible. i was a little upset that the owner charged me $12.00 for my pet fee when it said right on his wall it was $10.00. He said it was taxes and other fees. How can you have a tax and fee on a fee? Smoking is allowed on premises and there were lots of people smoking outside their rooms which is awful. The hotel is not fancy. It is humble, quiet, and cozy. The hotel reminded me of my grandmother's house and its neighborhood. CVS, a big market, and Burger King are near the hotel (short walking distance). However, they need to do something with the smell of rooms.Genuine Expedia guest review

It wasn't expensive, so we didn't expect anything fancy. We were pleasantly surprised to find a fridge, microwave and coffee. The room was clean and comfortable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"OK for the money"
The room I stayed in was totally basic: standard set of queen bed (clean enough), small fridge, coffee maker, wardrobe, a desk and couple chairs. Clean bathroom, hot water, no nasty smells. An air-conditioner does exist but I didn't check if its actually working. No normal furnace but small and quite noisy heater so be prepared - the room next to me […] had the same issue judging on the familiar sound of fan rotating. Bottom line: ok for the couple of nights, pretty reasonable price, but if you're staying longer - better look for something else. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good and affordable"
This hotel was probably built in the early 1950's. Most other hotels of this age are probably going back to the earth but not this one. "A Many Times Guest"
Been staying there some 15 years when in the area. Owner very courteous & helpful. Very reasonably priced. Motel probably built some 50 years ago or more? Though "mostly" kept up, it is overall outdated. Free W-Fi now available. Grounds nicely mainatined. Heater & A.C. Unit in one module & mounted through an exterior wall ... in a doorless closet. Setting […] the heat to a desired level is not possible. A numbered dial, not a thermostat, controls the degree of heat. Unit has an internal thermostat. The TV is mounted on a stand bolted to the wall. If you are taller than 5'7" you run the risk of hitting your head on the metal. No microwave oven in room, though there's a small Fridge & coffee maker. There's a "community kitchen" for all to use, but it was not available when I was there. Linens and towels were very clean. It is a ... step back in time! A very nice center courtyard with BBQ's and tables make for a nice alternative. Fast Food is just a couple of hundred feet away. A KFC, excellent Pizza Place (Mike's of Angels), Burger King, & Taco Bell are located at the corner. A decent food market, Rite Aide Pharmacy, & a health care place are in the same shopping center. I will stay there again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"very disappointed and will never go back"
The room is small and very dirty, and also has unpleasant smell. The tiny office has very pungent curry odor. It's definetly overpriced considering how bad the condition is. In addition, the owner seems only care about how to charge you extra for essential items.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Quaint, Clean, Decent Location"

The owners of this small, quaint motel are REALLY nice folks. The room my wife & I stayed in for only one night was small but adequate and clean. No frills! We were just passing through. We would stay there again.
"Made us nervous, check other options."
05/24/14 Jenny N Bath, United Kingdom
We paid $88 for a room with a double and a single bed. The decor was very in your face outdated, and it was stifling with the smell of air freshener. The sheets seemed clean, but there were bits/crumbs of food from the last guests on the table and it was quite dusty in places. We took the bed covers off without question and neither of us dared sit on the worn (slightly stained) old sofa. I don't mind basic but this place gave us hygiene concerns. On a location note, we found Murphys was a more interesting place to spend the evening, and would definitely stay there next time.

"Better than other small motels"

I have stayed at the "Frog" several times now when I am travelling for business and have not been disappointed ever. Depending upon the time of year, the value is always good, whether it be 40. in the off season or 68. in the high season. The hotel was built in about 1947 or so but it is perfectly clean, clean , clean I thought. Brand new pillow top mattresses and Chris the manager is a great guy and always treats me with a smile and kindness. The rooms are small because of the age of the hotel but I have found it to be very comfortable always. It was very hot in Angels this last weekend but the AC worked great. I gave the motel a 5 because Chris and his wife has turned this motel into a property that has reached it's highest and best use because of their continual and dedicated work on the property. I have stayed at almost every hotel in the Calaveras area and you can spend more somewhere else but I doubt you will get all that much more in quality to justify the expense. It is alittle small if you have older kids but is great for single or couples on a budget. I found no fault with this little hotel for the price...I don't know about other peoples problems with their reviews, I found no evidence of ants and other critters and all of the mechanical things in the rooms that I have stayed in at this motel worked perfectly. Yes, I will stay there again...I found it to be cozy, clean and a great location for my needs.
"Please Avoid at All Costs"
Generally, when looking over hotel reviews, I ignore the ones that seem snarky or over exaggerated. However, our experience at this motel was so ridiculous that I hope you give it some thought before booking. The owner was helpful at check in. The price seemed a little high ($68+tax), but in the dark the place looked cozy. Upon entering the room, however, we were more shocked than anything. I had flashbacks to summer camp cabins and my significant other to some hunting lodges at which he had stayed. My SO said he was gonna retreat to the bucket seat in his '79 Bronco and he'd see me in the morning. :) If it hadnt been so late, we would have left then. To keep it brief: water soaked carpet, ants in windows and around bathroom sink, very cold in the bathroom, hairs on the pillow cases, very old and dirty blanket and bedspread, smelled like a flea collar, heater was inconsistently effective and loud, shower head was like the end of a pipe fitting. The age of everything wouldn't have been a big deal had everything been clean. It was, simply, a very unpleasant experience. In the morning, I told the owner about the ants and he was not surprised. I told him that the room was filthy and he said nothing. I asked him if they used flea powder in the room and he said they used it on the carpet in all the rooms. (Do I now need a flea bath?!) When I asked what he could do on the rate, he said it was fair. I was so embarrassed for him, I just left. If the rate was $35, I'd say go for it. However, I'd save yourself the unpleasantness!!!
"Better service could have made up for what was lacking in rooms."
02/13/13 Krystal L San Diego, California
Stayed here in a bit if a family emergency. Checked in around 10pm with my two small children. One small little bed for us to squeeze into, but sheets were clean. I had stepped outside the door while my children were sleeping to talk on the phone and the door shut and locked behind me. Keys were inside so I went to the office and told the man what I had done( on accident ) he was pissed off! He said " it's 10:45 this won't be happening again" I said sir I'm very sorry it was an accident I didn't realize the doors automatically lock. He walked over and let me in and walked away making me feel like a pain in the butt not like a paying guest. There was also no bathtub just a small box tiled stand up shower and a freezing bathroom. Not great if you have kids. And the shower head looked like it was supposed to be hooked to a garden hose not for a shower. Anyways other than that the remote worked! If you have a little extra money then find somewhere else that will be worth the stay.
"stop, look first, tthis place needs lots of work"
11/26/12 BoleroSCW Phoenix, Arizona
clean sheets, dirty blankets and bed covers, ceiling a total mess, water dripped all night in shower, turned the shower on and the shower head flew across the room ( plastic head cracked all the way down the side). Wall heater/air conditioner, loud and cycled on and off all night. We would not recommend this place and we would not return.
"Great Value for the money"
11/04/12 Darrell Z Winters, CA
I have stayed at this motel, off and on, for a year and a half. I feel as it is a great value for the money. It has always been clean and comfortable, and the staff has gone out of their way to make me feel at home. The motel itself is very quaint, just 1 block off of the main road, keeping it a little quieter than most. It is an older motel, drawing on the theme of Mark Twain's "Jumping Frogs Of Calaveras County". The Gold Country of Calif. has always been a big tourism draw, but I only look for a clean, inexpensive, motel for the night. I have never been disappointed in all of my stays. My travels are going to take me away from this area, but if I should ever be back, I would drive the extra distance just to stay here again.
"Nice for the price"
06/26/12 Feklhr Antioch
Looking for a clean, inexpensive room in the Gold Country? I was, and was pleased with the experience I had at the Jumping Frog Motel. I loved the retro look of the little courtyard, the tiled shower, and there was even an old bottle opener mounted in the bathroom. If you want a big screen TV, wireless access, or luxury, go elsewhere. If you want a quiet night's sleep for the lowest price around, this place is it.
