Very clean and quiet! The owners were at the desk when I checked in and served breakfast in the morning--very solicitous and helpful.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Great service - beautiful hanging flowers all around - totally unexpected view of beautiful lake outside window! Nice people - comfortable beds.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Very adequate, close to the activity i was involved in, a good value.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not so hot"
There were many things wrong with our room. The bathroom door needs to be shaved down so it closes. The bathroom light is outside of the room, presenting a problem for people asleep when someone gets up in the middle of the night to use the facilities. The light goes on, you can't close the door, equals cranky vacationers. The bathroom also needs a […] thorough cleaning the baseboard is disgusting. Breakfast is only served from 8-10am, which is far too late a start time for most travelers. We paid way too much for a room like this. "Bed was extremly hard....dirty bathroom!!!!"
The bed was so hard that my back was sore the next day. The bathroom needed more cleaning. The room looked nice but I will not stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The location was great. I took another posters advice and got a riverview room. It was well worth it. This is a great 1950 style hotel that has been kept up. Very quiet location but I was able to hear my neighbors. I did not get breakfast. It would be a great location for kids as there is lots of space to run around and is off the busy road. "Not sure if worth the price"
The service is pretty much non-existant. The room and bathroom were extremely dirty and the toilet seat didn't even fit the toilet. Cheaply re-furbished and it shows. Positives were that the bed was comfy and the wi-fi was good. Cheap for the area but you pay for what you get.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Less than average stay"
The room was badly in need of an update and cobwebs hung from the ceiling. Breakfast the next morning was sub par (even by continental standards), and we felt harassed as a cleaning service had arrived so the staff was pushing all the tables except ours out of the way. "Nice stay for early spring"
My friend and I were passing through this area on vacation, so we needed some place with a good price, clean, and wanted a complimentary breakfast. This fit the bill, and it's fairly close to grocery, shopping restaurants etc. Since it is off-season for skiing, it wasn't very busy, but the manager still put out a full continental breakfast. "Not what we were expecting"
The room itself was basic and very clean. The furniture was functional but old and outdated. Work was being carried out on some of the rooms during our stay which indicated that improvements were being made. My biggest issue was the fact that this did not feel like an inn but more just like a furnished room and with a window that was high up and had […] no view out made it feel a bit claustrophobic for us. Some rooms may have a view of the lake behind the property, but ours did not. The price was very inexpensive and the addition of wi-fi, microwave and fridge was convenient. It was also quiet so we slept well. However, next time we would probably choose a location closer to town. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"It is what it is"
This is a good hotel to stay at if you need a quick no frills place to stay for one night. The woman at the counter was very accommodating and friendly. Yes, the place is very dated with no frills but that is what you pay (or not pay for) a hotel in this price range. Would stay there again. I was glad I only has to stay here one night. The "non-smoking " room reeked of smoke, the wall paper was peeling and I felt a distinct lack of privacy in the bathroom with the window overlooking the parking lot with skimpy curtains.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Shower water was below body temperature at 5:30 am"
the 2nd room I was shown was fine, but Shower water was below body temperature at 5:30 am when I was the only guest showering. The first room I was shown smelled like smoke, and the desk clerk offered to spray something to fix the situation. After my refusal to sleep in a freshly sprayed room, and some negotiations, I was given the 2nd room.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
No internet no hot water breakfast at 8:00 & no coffee or tea in room no kitchenette. And the person that checked us in was no friendly...will never stay there again..Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Furniture changed while were out."
We saw new furniture being delivered to the rooms next to ours. Never thinking there would also be a change in our room when we returned from our day long event. We were not notified or asked to pack to remove our personal effects from the drawers. A bit uncomfortable to say the least. Updated furniture was needed.Genuine Expedia guest review
It was clean and comfortable with a nice view of the Conneticut River. My only complaint was that the bathroom was a bit small.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"A great value."
This motel is old, but provides a lot for the incredibly low price to stay. Internet, microwave, mini-fridge, along with coffee and breakfast in the morning is all you can ask for at a place that is so cheap. The room was clean and the family that runs the place is friendly. "Quality meets the price"
This is a very reasonably priced motel and you get what you pay for. The bed was comfortable, the TV worked fine, the staff are friendly, but I was disappointed in the cleanliness of the bathroom. Towels were skimpy, as was the hot water. WiFi didn't work in the room, but worked in the office area. It's fine if you just need a room to sleep in and don't […] want to pay a lot and aren't too squeamish about a hair on the sink. I would go there again and would recommend it to a friend if they know what they're getting. Breakfast was cold cereal and English muffins--fine to stave off hunger, but not what you're choosing this motel for. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
I've stayed here a few times before and it has been totally fine. It is one of the least expensive places in the area so I don't have high expectations but this time was not a good stay. The main issue was that we didn't have a hot shower for 3 days! One day there was enough *warm* water to get the soap off before the water turned very cold. The breakfast […] was pretty bad - there was very little or somtimes no coffee, there used to be a waffle maker but that wasn't working either- just some english muffins and the same old muffins in a bulk plastic container probably from costco or something. Also, our room was never cleaned. They said it can only be cleaned at 7am while we are asleep. Strange. On a positive note - At least the place is clean, the river view is pretty the bed and linens are comfortable. It is a close drive to the Dartmouth campus and quiet, especially on the river side. "Pleasing on a budget"
A very nice experience. Small, down to earth with modest expectations this was a pleasant stay while I was at the King Arthur Baking Education Center for some delicious baking experience. Continental breakfast has real English muffins as well as a small variety of other breakfast items. The front desk person was accommodating and helpful. "Clean! No Frills, Inexpensive."
I don't know what everyone else on here is complaining about. I go to Hanover/Lebanon a few times a year to visit friends and stay at Sunset. It's always clean (surprised how clean the bathrooms are compared to most motels), comfortable, and inexpensive. I think most people here have misguided expectations, thinking they'll be getting a Ritz VIP experience […] for $70 bucks a night. Come on! I give Sunset 5 stars for what it is - a simple, no frills motel for 1-2 night stays. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
I guess for a 2-star hotel it was OK, but I was very disappointed to not be able to have a hot shower. Water was tepid at best. I don't plan to stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Room was clean and simple, view of the Connecticut river was fantastic. Pay the extra $10 for the rooms with the view.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Terrible service; I was greeted poorly by the front desk staff. When asked for a refund after seeing that the room was not up to par, they promptly shooed me away. Do yourselves a favor, and spend the extra $ staying at the Courtyard--the improved service is worth it alone. Be weary of this place!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Passable but not pleasurable"
Good points -- the room and the bathroom were quite clean. No complaints there. But I found this roadside motel lacking, particularly for the price paid. I can overlook things like the sag in the bathroom floor near the shower -- it's an old hotel and to fix that kind of thing would cost a lot. But the most minor of amenities would have really helped […] improve our experience, like better sheets (ours were scratchy) and towels (ours were tiny). The soap dispenser in the bathroom shower was empty, and the first time we entered our room (after dark, which occurs at 5pm) the light switch didn't work because the lamps had been manually turned off. I had to fumble around to turn one on. We did get maid service, and it was done well, but the tag was left on the door outside after the service was complete... this after the proprietor fully explained to us how to use it (it works just like it does at every hotel you've ever been to. Stick the tag out on the door if you want service). It's the little things that make or break a place, and I'm sorry to say I don't think I would stay here again. "Nice and quaint"
This was just what I wanted. Cheap, personal, comfortable.Genuine Expedia guest review
It was very upsetting. We did not have hot water in the shower, which incidentally was the size of a telephone booth. We did not have adequate heating, even when the thermostat was set higher. Generally run-down, the bathroom had an unpleasant smell. The two-star rating is far too generous, definitely misleading and not worth the money. NOT AT ALL […] SATISFIED. "Inexpensive and convenient"
I was traveling for an interview at Dartmouth, and the hotels in Hanover were far outside of my price range. The Sunset Motor Inn was relatively inexpensive and located right on the bus route between West Lebanon and Hanover. My room was small, but it suited my needs as a lone traveler. Although the hotel seemed worn, I was pleased by its cleanliness. […] The man at the front desk was very pleasant and friendly. Check-in and check-out were a breeze. The breakfast spread was nice. I also loved having a gorgeous view of the water out my back window! I would definitely recommend the Sunset Motor Inn to a friend. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Perfect choice for an overnight"
We needed a room closed to the hospital and liked the looks of this one. We stayed in the King room with river view. Everything was new, clean and very comfortable. The river view was awesome.Well worth the price. Definately going back. We had to be at the hospital too early to try the breakfast.Genuine Expedia guest review
Hunters blasting away at 6 am was a bit of a suprise. The owner claiming he did not here them and pretending this was something new is difficult to believe. After being woken up at that hour one might have expected the coffee to be ready but that was not the case.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great value, convenient to Dartmouth"
Found this aging but comfortable motel an excellent value, easy drive from Dartmouth, nice location along the river. If you don't need 'extra' amenities, it's a good place to sleep (quiet, in the woods, nothing fancy). We'd go back, particularly if most of your time is spent on campus.Genuine Expedia guest review

Close to Dartmouth. Nice nice nice nice. Once upon a time in America there lived a litted baby named BoBoGenuine Expedia guest review
When I viewed the motel online, it appeared to be cozy and clean. Upon entering the room after checking in (at 6:40 p.m) however, it had not been cleaned and the beds were unmade. I was given the room next to this and it wasn't much better. Although the beds were made, there was toothpaste in the sink and the bathroom was grimy. The metal toilet paper […] holder (which also had a roll of toilet paper that was just about empty) had finger prints & grime as did the stainless steel faucet - it had never been cleaned. The toilet bowl lid did not have a "sanitized" strip across it. The 2 hand towels had stains on them. When I approached the owner about it, he seemed annoyed that I was complaining! I paid $99 plus tax for one night and it was a total waste of money. If I visit this area again, I will pay an extra $25 or so to feel comfortable in a clean room. "Economical place close to Hanover"
Location (on a lake shore close to Hanover) cannot be beat for the price. Hotel was adequate. Slept well. rooms were dark and bathroom was small, but everything worked.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Entirely adequate; I would stay there again."
This is an old roadside motel that is located just two miles from the center of Hanover backed up on the Connecticut River. The rooms are old but clean and comfortable. It had a good shower but the hot water temperature fluctuated -- but not all the way to cold. The floor in front of the shower had caved from past water rot but had been shored up so […] felt solid. The wi-fi was fast enough -- better than at several higher priced establishments. Fridge and microwave in the room but no coffee. Breakfast looked average or better -- we did not partake because of other breakfast commitments. Owner/manager was helpful -- he waited up for us until 2am after our flight was delayed. The motel is in a forest and the view of the river to the back is outstanding. The units have no exits to the side facing the river but one can walk around to the various chairs facing the river to enjoy the view. There is some road noise because of relatively small setback from the road. All in all, especially considering the price, we would be happy to stay there again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Nothing in immediate area"
For the money and this time of year it was okay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
There were so many dirty things in the room...mirror, bathroom wallpaper, lamps...and the water never got hot in the shower. The place is a bit rundown, and nobody seemed to be around when there was a problem with the waffle maker at breakfast. They just don't get it about customer service. It's way out of town down a dark road.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Looks aren't everything!"
Overall, this was a fine place to stay for one night. My boyfriend and I were in the area for one night while we attended a friend's wedding. Considering that we didn't stay in our room for more than getting ready and sleeping this motel was served it's purpose. Although this motel looks a little sketchy when you first pull up it's not as bad as it's […] first glance may make it seem and I would definitely book another room if I ever needed another one night stay!
