Like most Windsor the staff are great, friendly, and helpful. Most speak English. The breakfast buffet has a good variety of food but it's certainly not at the level of Windsor Atlantica. The rooms are a bit dated but clean and they're certainly better than other 3.5 star hotels in the area. On the other hand, the bathrooms are rather spacious. It's in a good location right on the border of Copacabana and Leme, though not facing the beach it's about a 5 min walk. I prefer Windsor Atlantica, but this is a great alternative to the 4 and 5 star hotels if you want to save a bit of money.

Pros: Excellent Front Desk Staff. They all courteous, speak english and very helpful to your needs. Room service is great. Unless there are people ahead of you for service Good value for money. Good Amentities. Cons: Breakfast buffet is okay little expensive Room service menu is strictly ok. compared to hotels in US. Location is strictly ok. There is a shop opp the hotel but no restaurants,pharmacy, convienence store etc close by. It isn't a happening neighouborhood. It's kind of far from the Mall and other parts of the city.

"Tiny bathroom slow housekeeping"
If you return to your room before 6 p.m., your room may not get cleaned, which is unacceptable. The bathroom is tiny. It is virtually impossible to move in or out without falling into the toilet because the door gets in the way, unless you are spider man. When you use the tiny sink, water spills on the floor. "Hotel Monte Castelo - Helpful and handy but..."
Small room and very small bathroom, you just about have to sit on the toilet to close the door - and I am not saying that because I have a large bottom. Honestly. The shower itself is fine though. Close to Gloria metro, useful to get to Copacabana and Ipanema, metro is safe and easy way to get around (get a pre-pay card, works out just over £1 a […] trip, regardless of distance) Rooms can be very noisy as sound echoes up through the open centre - if someone drops a spoon on the tiles below everyone hears it. Strange design. Breakfast is limited, watery juice - pity as Brazil has fantastic juices - Acai is heaven on earth when done properly - cold meat, bread and cheese and usually water melon or guava. DIY Toasted sandwich maker does help. Very helpful reception. All our tours (booked from England) were late and disorganized - Gray Line via City discovery were particular bad. Booked in English but you have to ring them the day before your trip to confirm and they don't speak English. Cost me a fortune in mobile phone costs - almost as much as the tour - before the guy at the hotel reception sorted it out. Tour was then late. The hotel is basic as is the accomodation. The surroundings can be a bit dodgy although we never experienced any issues. It is close to some excellent venues for nights out (lapa) and the tube for transport. Several attractions are nearby including the mosaic steps seen on many a music video. A great small hotel for the money with helpful, friendly staff. Clean room with small but adequate shower room/ toilet. The corner basin is tiny but other than that everything is fine. Easy to use safe for documents etc. I enjoyed the character of the hotel. "Bom custo beneficio, bo alocalização."
Hotel pequeno e antigo, tem como principal qualidade sua localização, ao lado do Centro e do bairro de Santa Tereza. Tem uma estação de Metro bem perto facilitando o passeio pelo Rio. "Estadia bem localizada"
Estadia tranquila, quarto limpo, arejado, ar condicionado funcionando, ducha quente, cofre funcionando, cobertas limpas, boa recepção. Ficamos hospedados no Hotel Monte Castelo durante 3 dias, chegamos no dia 21/09/2012 ( Sexta ) e saímos dia 24/09/2012. Quando cheguei de cara gostei do bairro e do Hotel. Perto dos pontos turísticos que eu visitei. Ah, também do centro da cidade e dos Museus, Arcos da lapa, do Metro, da estação das barcas para ir ate ao Mac em Nitéroi. Os Funcionários […] são muito educados, eles me deram várias dicas da Cidade. Limpeza tanto do quarto quanto do Hotel nota 10, qualidade do serviço, comodidade, localização do Hotel nota 10. O hotel têm uma ótima localização perto do centro, metro, ponto de táxi. A Lapa e o bairro de Santa Tereza ficam pertinho, fomos a pé durante o dia conhecer os Arcos da Lapa, muito lindo. O que achei que podia melhorar é o café da manhã e a roupa de cama e as toalhas não eram trocadas todo dia. Porém, o bom atendimento superou estes contratempos. Sehr einfaches Hotel. Das wussten wir aber vorher, denn zu diesem Preis ist es kaum möglich, eine gute Unterkunft in Rio zu bekommen. Frühstücksraum klein, Frühstück ok. Lage ist ebenfalls ok, da zu Fuß, per Metro oder mit dem Bus alles bestens und schnell erreichbar ist. WLan im gesamten Hotel ohne Gebühren! Fazit: Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis passt. Hotel simples mas tem o necessário. Boa localização no centro do Rio de Janeiro, ao lado do metrô Glória. Fui muito bem recebido. Quarto limpo, cama e travesseiros bons, chuveiro bom e ar condicionado funcionou normalmente. O café-da-manhã é bem simples, mas é o suficiente. "Simplicidade"
O Monte Castelo é simples, porém funcional. Não conta com uma estrutura de um grande hotel, mas o quarto onde fiquei foi confortável, internet de boa velocidade. Próximo existem mercados onde é possível comprar alimentação e é perto do metrô. Excelente para quem quer resolver outras coisas e usar o hotel para repousar.
